mourning the loss of a 42 year-old department veteran. the horrific crash happened just before 1:00 a.m.. they followed a police pursuit that started at 119 where an officer attempted to pull over a white van that was reportedly stolen. the female driver took off. witnesses say the white van was traveling fast and erratically. the way she was traveling she was very unexperienced in very long. knowing that the speech he was going it was just crazy. she was marching on and off the expressway. after she was going to get back on to the expressway and go that way. >> the van slam into the officer's personal vehicle likely killing him instantly. the officer was reportedly in uniform and on his way home after working a late shift. the police chief tells us that the female driver and a man in the van were taken into custody at the scene. a small amount of marijuana was found. >> the officer terminated chase before the deadly crash. several hours after a procession of police vehicles of should the bodies from the scene to the morgue. he had been on the force for 10 years and a source said he worked in a specialized team that patrolled high crime areas. and is married and father of two children. could have been anybody. it is really sad. the identity of the officer killed has not yet been released in a statement the police superintendent praised the officers dedication and called his death a terrible tragedy. we have learned that inside that white fan was up to 10 lbs. of marijuana. police tell me that she is now being questioned at the headquarters and she lives about one block away. the passenger underwent emergency surgery but they could include reckless homicide or murder. >> the search area for the missing airplane is expanding. u.s. officials tell cnn there is a good chance it is at the bottom of the indian ocean. this development comes amid word that the missing plane could have flown for several hours after the last reading from its transponder. malaysian authorities believe the airliner send pings 4-5 hours after the last transponder signal. suggesting the plane flew to the indian ocean. >> what do you do? you cannot possibly cover the entire indian ocean. the flight disappeared saturday morning after leaving for beijing. reuters reports that the plane might have been hijacked by someone with knowledge of flying planes. >> people coming in and out of malaysia are sending thoughts and prayers to the missing crew and families. 227 passengers and 12 crew members were on board the plane when it disappeared. u.s. airways plane blew a tire. an airline spokesperson told usa today that the boat cost the landing gear to collapse on the runway. the plane skidded to a halt and passengers and crew got awful the plane. two people were taken to hospital with minor injuries. it says it looks like the plane bounced before it came to a stop. >> the plane was supposed to fly to fort lauderdale. cassandra's reschedule passengers were rescheduled. >> several people are still unaccounted for as the crews still continue to dig through piles of debris. a federal investigation has been launched into the explosion. investigators say it was likely caused by natural gas leak. more than 70 people injured in the blast. 56 people are now living in temporary shelters. this is the scene after a driver crashed. the storefront window had shattered. it maximum sentence. a 14 year- old girl accused of killing her younger sister is scheduled to be in court today. the older girl stabbed her sister several times in their home. they say the 14 year-old felt her younger sister did not appreciate all that she did for. the girl's mother was at work at the time of the killing. prosecutors are waiting for the results of a psychiatric evaluation before deciding whether to try the 14 year-old as an adult. she is pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder. >> now under investigation by the department of children and family services. three other children have been placed with relatives. they're looking into accusations of neglect. the accusations are not true. she says her daughter may have been playing with a lighter when the fire started. the village board is hearing some complaints about 911 center. the center is privatized this year as a cost- cutting measure. dispatchers handle several calls and an attorney expressed concern over how some calls were being handled. board members said they not been informed of any complaints. a government watchdog group is criticizing the mayor's latest city bond sale. bar almost $900 million to pay the short- term debt and keeps a services running. he faces a reelection campaign next year. the federation says the mayor's new authority to borrow money will allow him to put off
