reporter: it's still a very active scene here on hudson street. taking a look behind me at the brick house, the fire is now out but firefighters still monitoring for hot spots. it may be difficult to see, but there's a hole in the roof right there that they believe flames may have burned through. just to the left of this, this is not only a home but also a family business. there's a farm stand here. there. that is the family. everybody was able to make it out of this home. no injuries to report. sadly i just spoke to the family, and they told me that their two cats did not make it. they say that this happened very early in the morning. they were asleep at the time. the fire, they say, started in the back of the house. but, again, at this point in time, they don't know exactly how this fire started. the investigation is still very early on. so, again, it's least several more hours before they make any determination. but i can report that no one was injured. the family was able to make it out safely. unfortunately, their two cats, they told me did not make it out. and, again, still a very active scene here on hudson street. these firefighters told me they'll be out here for month. a father says a photo of his family was used in a racist facebook message posted by his peers. the wellesley superintendent and the high school principal sent a letter to the community calling the messages disturbing and saying they violate the school's values the "globe" reports the family victimized by will speak during today's meeting. >> jason: the family found a stranger standing in their bedroom just before 6:00 yesterday at a house in college street in somerville. they describe as white or college aged. he took off in a white sedan. no one was hurt. police are investigating and the cause is still under investigation. a fire captain who lived nearby, spotted the fire on 20th street yesterday afternoon and between battling these flames and providing back up at the station, a total of 14 towns responded to help newbury's fire department. the homeowner was at the beach when the fire broke out but ran home when he saw the flames. >> it's very upsetting to see that happen. of the road and hit trees. in a statement to fox 25 late last night, the his former principal remembered him for his infectious personality. principal brian says a.j. had a beautiful heart and beautiful spirit. he'll be missed by his classmates, friends and the faculty and staff. another passenger in a that car was also hurt. the driver, 19-year-old joseph he's due in court tomorrow to face motor vehicle homicide and other charges as police continue to investigate. the counselors will be available from 11:00 until 1:00. >> jason: new this morning, a man accused of killing a pair of nuns in their home has confessed, that's according to a sheriff who says he was briefed by police and the mississippi bureau of investigation. sheriff said tips from the community led to rodney sanders arrest this saturday. this morning, we're learning more about his criminal background. the mississippi department of correc convicted last year for felony dui. served time in prison and currently out of probation or was. he was convicted of armed robbery and faced six years for that conviction. he is facing capital murder for the capital of those two nuns. one big question remains in the case, why. sanders did not give a reason for the killings. one of the nuns is from our area. people who knew her, told our trying to understand and forgive. >> reporter: center paula marrow grew up in when he the woods. taylor and colleagues ran outside to help and found flames shooting from a dump truck that rolled over. the female driver trapped inside and yelling for helpful taylor grabbed a temperatures tonight back in the upper 60s mostly with increasing clouds. i think most of us end up staying dry tonight and into the day tomorrow. but there will be some spot shower half of your monday. it's also warm and it's muggy tomorrow. the humidity is rising. we've got about 90 possibly in norwood. upper 60s in spots like boston and lawrence, over to worcester at 83 degrees. probably low and mid 80s for the cape. and that warm, muggy, up ahead of this cold front. so this is 8:00 tomorrow morning. this cold front is going to stir up more in the way of clouds than showers. but keep in mind for the morning commute and even lunch time tomorrow because the front is in ahead and along it. there's not that much moisture out there, though. so what i think is going to end up happening, i think by the time the front moves through, the moist air is going to be pushing out. we've got a situation where it's not going to be good to get a lot of showers out of it. it's probably going to end up drying up in most towns and cities. by 4:00 p.m., as the front is moving off shore, skies clearing out. late monday actually turning brighter, turning more comfortable. today, tomorrow, partly northborough. the fire started around 3:00 this morning. you can see in the video there, a hole in the roof of that building on hudson street. firefighters were on the scene for near t of the home ock -- okay. but the two family cats are us inning and may not have survived. >> jason: wellesley is gearing up for a community gathering to talk about diversity. >> catherine: it comes a month after a racist facebook post targeting a student's family. stephanie coueignoux talks about >> reporter: yeah,crath lynn, the father of the teenager is going to be speaking at a family picnic held out here outside of the town hall. the father posted an audio clip to his facebook page explaining what happened. in that audio clip, he said that his son earlier had invited some of his friends to a bbq here in wellesley. he said one of the teens took a picture of the family portrait and posted that facebook conversation. 7 teens in all were part of that conversation. three from wellesley high school and then four from other schools in the boston area. he says that post used derogatory and racist language, including the n word, the word genocide, and the post also told the family, quote, go back to their own country because they are taking jobs. now he said while this post is understandably very upsets. racism. >> this is an important opportunity to correct what is obviously still a very big issue in our society. we may be the victims in this, but it doesn't mean that we are powerless or that we cannot change the course of the discourse and in our town. >> reporter: so he's inviting university is issuing a safety warning this weekend after a scary wake up to one student. a student found a stranger morning police say at a house in college street in somerville. witnesses say the man was college aged. he took off in sedan. no one was hurt and police are investigating and stepped up patrols in that area. >> catherine: flames and smoke visible for miles after this fire on plum island. these pictures shown by a fox 25 viewer. the fire captain who lives nearby spotted that fire on 20th between battling these flames and providing back up at the station, a total of 14 towns responded to help newburyport's fire department. the home owner was at the beach when the fire broke out but ran home when he saw the flames. >> it's very upsetting to see something like that happen and your whole house go up in flames pretty much. >> catherine: the homeowner and two other people who live there weren't hurt. one firefighter was hospitalized for heat exhaustion but will be okay. >> catherine: this is the called for a big fire recently. this one broke out on 59th street. the cause remains under investigation. >> jason: two southwest airline attendants were badly after hitting turbulence on the way to new hampshire. it trumped down in manchester around 7:00 last night. southwest tells fox 25, the employee injuries were minor. none of the 143 passengers on the plane were injured. another flight forced to land after suf failure mid flight. the extend of the damage there, bound for orlando and passengers say they heard a big boom when one of the engines blew. >> i thought it was an attack. or that plane was going to go down. >> it felt like half of the plane almost capsized on the other side. >> jason: so the plane was forced to land in pensacola after the austin robins was killed yesterday morning when the car he was riding in veered off the road and hit trees. in a statement to fox 25 last night, his former principal remembered him for his infess shoes personality. he went on to say, a.j. had a big heart and a beautiful spirit. he will be missed by his family, the driver, 19-year-old joseph kapp, police say, was drunk. he's due in court tomorrow to face motor vehicle homicide and other charges as police continue to investigate. the council advisories will be available from noon to 1:00. >> jason: a man who was accused of killing nuns in their home has confessed. the sheriff says police work and tips from the community led to rodney sander s' arrest. the nuns of this morning, one big unknown still remains. why. the police say company workers in federal way, washington, found evidence there was two children living in a sewer tunnel. the workers noticed a manhole cover out of place and bed made out of plywood at the bottom of the shaft. there were also clothes, toys and several other items. nearby they found two young boys who said they had been staying there for the past month. >> i've been doing this kind of work for family portrait and posted that photo to a facebook conversation of the father says seven teenagers in all were part of that online post. three attend wellesley high school. and four others go to schools in the boston area. he says that post used derogatory and racist language, including the n word, the word genocide, and also told the family, quote, to their own country because they're, sheriff says he was briefed by the mississippi bureau of investigation. police work and tips from the community led to rodney sanders arrest this weekend. this morning, we're also learning more about his criminal background. the mississippi department of corrections says sanders was convicted last year for felony dui served time in prison and current out on probation, in 1996 he was convicted of armed robbery and served six years for that. sanders is facing two counts of capital murder now for the deaths of the nuns and this, morning, one big unknown remains in this case, the why. sanders did vacationing after that facebook post came out. he also says in that audio clip that the high school principal is now in discussions talking about this issue. but so far no word yet on whether those the of the people who lived in the hudson street home had minor burns. fox 25 was on the scene as as fire crews monitored that home for hot spots earlier this morning. you can see the hole in the roof of that building on hudson street. so far no word on the cause but does not appear to be suspicious at this time. >> jason: breaking this morning, prosecutors in italy will open a criminal investigation into the cause of wednesday's earthquake. 291 people died when it struck officials want to know if be safety standards were not met in the hardest hit towns. two buildings a church and a school had been renovated in the last few years, all destroyed. a bell of a church fell on a home killing a family of four. one prosecutor says the death toll cannot be considered just a work of fate. back at home and happening today. wellesley gearing up for a community gathering to talk about diversity. >> catherine: it comes of a month of a racist facebook post targeting a high school student and his family. stephanie coueignoux has details with the post that started it all. >> reporter: the father of the teenager says the post was very upsetting to his family. however, he wants to create positive change. he's actually going to be speaking at a picnic that's going to be held this afternoon here outside of wellesley town hall. now the father posted an audio clip to his facebook page, explaining exactly what happened. musikavanhu said his son had invited some of his friends to a bbq at their home in wellesley and at the time he says one of those teenagers took a picture of a family portrait and posted that photo to a facebook conversation. the father said, seven teenagers in all were part of that conversation. three go to wellesley high school. four others go to other schools in the greater boston area. he says that post used derogatory and racist language, including the n word, the word genocide. amped the post also told the family to go back to their own country because they were taking jobs. he says, of course the post is understandably very upsets: but he's now hoping to create a conversation when it comes to racism. >> i see this as an important opportunity to correct what is obviously still a very big issue in our society. we may be the victims in this but it doesn't mean that we are powerless or that we cannot discourse and in our town. >> reporter: and because of that, he is hoping a lot of people will attend this picnic. again, he will be speaking at this public picnic. held from 4:00 to 6:00 outside of town hall. he also said in the audio clip that the high school principal is also discussing on possibly how to address this issue, but no word yet on whether the three teens who attend wellesley high school will face any sort of disciplinary action. in >> jason: this morning, tufts university is issuing a safety warning after a scary wake up for one student. a student found a stranger standing in their bedroom. university police say this happened just before 6:00 yesterday morning and a house on college street in somerville. witnesses say the man was college aged. they say he took off in a dark colored sedan. no one was hurt and police are still investigating and stepped up patrols in that area. take a look at a these pictures sent in from a fox 25 viewer and show what firefighters were up against there. shows the fire is out and the cause under investigation. a fire captain who lives nearby, spotted the fire on 20th street yesterday afternoon and between battling those flames and providing back up at the station, a total of 14 towns responded to help newburyport's fire department. the homeowner was at the beach when the fire broke out but ran home when he saw the flames. >> very upsetting to see something like that flames pretty much. >> catherine: the homeowner and two other people who live there weren't hurt. one firefighter hospitalized for heat exhaustion but will be okay. this is the second time crews have been called to plum island for a big fire recently. just two weeks ago, a fire broke out at this house on 59th street. that cause also under investigation. >> jason: southwest airline attendants were hurt after their plane hit bad turbulence on the way to new hampshire. southwest tells fox 25, the employee's injuries were minor. none of the 143 passengers on the plane reported any injuries. another southwest flight was forced to make an emergency landing this weekend after suffering engine failure mid flight. look at this picture. showing the extent of the damage to those engines. southwest it happened on a flight on new orleans bound for orlando. passengers heard a big boom when one of the engines blew. >> i thought it wassen a attack, and that the going go down. >> it felt a pair of nuns in this are home in mississippi has confessed. that's according to a sheriff who says he was briefed by police and the mississippi bureau of investigation. sheriff says police work and tips from the community led to rodney sanders arrest. sanders is facing two counts of capital murder for the deaths of the nuns. this morning, one big unknown still remains in the case. why. the sheriff says the sanders did killing. one of the sisters is from our area. people telling jim morelli they're trying to understand and forgive. >> reporter: paula merrill grew up in stoneham and attended st. patrick's church. >> hopefully find the right person and do justice. all of that, you know. i don't understand how somebody can do it. >> reporter: sanders is accused of stabbing sister merrill and sister held to death last week. they served some of the poo citizens were they take the time to explain things to the patients where they can understand it. they go way beyond. >> reporter: the relationship between sanders and the nuns, unknown if there was even one. police did find evidence of a break in and the sister's car was missing later on. >> sort of relief that, you that started it all. >> reporter: yeah, the teen's father is hoping people can learn something from what the family has had to go through. obviously something very upsetting for them. he is actually going to be speaking outside of town hall. a town wide picnic, inviting everyone to attend and talk about the issue of race such. tendai musikavanhu says while upsetting for his family. he's hoping to turn this racist post into something positive. in a six minute facebook audio clip, he explains how he feels this is a very important opportunity for everyone to come together and start that conversation. he says this stall started when his family invited some of his son's friends to a family barbecue and one of those friends took a picture of a family portrait and posted it to a facebook moving fire in northborough. we're now learning two people went to the hospital with injuries. one of the people, who lives at the hudson street home, has minor burns. and a firefighter has an unknown injury. fox 25 is on the scene as crews monitor the home for hot spots this morning. in the roof of the building on hudson street. so far no word on a cause but does appear to be suspicious at this time. also new, oxford police are needing your help finding a statute to tell len from a local cemetery. a statute of an angel on the right-hand side. police say someone stole that statue and the catherine: shocked what workers found unr two children were living in a sewer tunnel. the workers noticed the manhole cover out of place and noticed a bed at the bottom of the shaft. clothes toys and several other items. they found two boys who said they were staying there the past month. workers say the boys were around 12 years old. there's no word on where those boys are now. >> shiri: all
