we'll have more on that in a moment. first, we're tracking rain. jason brewer is here, to pinpoint the temperatures rising, the changes coming. >> jason: a little bit of everything, a dreary start to the day. don't be fooled as milder air is going to come up out of the south and southwest, you see the left over rain showers, east of the outer cape, a few more snow showers still to come from the west, anywhere from provincetown down to nantucket, waking up with the lightly rain. most of the boston area mostly quiet. a new batch of rain and snow coming in. but i don't expect it to last all morning. in fact, between 8 and 10 in the morning, most of this is going to start winding down. there's our warm front. where we're getting milder, temperatures above freezing area wide. i don't expect much more than wet roads. the day planner does show temperatures warming to near 50 by 2:00 today. there's that smoke flume, though, showing up on the radar, from the big fire in fall river. heather. >> heather: we do want to get back to the breaking news, jason. this is on the south coast, a mill that continues to burn at this hour. an incredible scene on weaver street in fall river unfolding this morning. >> blair: they are live showing up on our radar now. one man tells us he woke up with to the sound of explosions. fox 25 stephanie coueignoux just arrived on the scene on the ground there. and stephanie, that area has a variety of buildings, including, the -- but the fire department says there's been no evacuation so far. >> reporter: so far no evacuation and no injuries, blair. but taking a look behind me firefighters are still battling this massive fire. you can see they're using that ladder right there to spray down this entire area. this is what we know so far. this all started at around 3:30 this morning. and that's when firefighters responded. i just spoke with the fire department. one priority is calling in firefighters, already at least 11 different agencies are here, trying to get this massive fire under control. now, we're actually several blocks away from the fire. they've actually blocked off that entire area. dozens of firefighters, dozens of police officers here on scene diverting traffic because of course for safety reasons they just don't want people to get this close. but, again, i did just speak with firefighters and police officers here on scene, they are telling me right now, no evacuation to speak of, and no injuries at this time. i did ask them if this was an abandoned mill or whether this was occupied. right now, they told me, they couldn't answer that question. their number one priority, again, is to contain this fire, to get it under control. i'm continuing to reach out to them. now, this is a residential area. we're seeing a lot of folks seeing the flames, very concerned. we're hoping to speak to them later on, but of course a very active scene. i'll have another live report for you in a 30 plaintiff's exhibit. for now, stephanie coueignoux, fox 25 morning news. >> blair: staying on that situation all morning long. also this morning, one person in the hospital after a shooting in cambridge. sky fox over the scene as police responded to putnam avenue and mcgee street yesterday on. it may have started with some sort of fight. that victim was shot in the leg. no word this morning, if police have any suspects. >> heather: worcester police are investigating an armed home invasion. this happened at an apartment on south street around 8 last night. two men reportedly used guns to force their way into the apartment. they took some cash and shut three victims in a bathroom before leaving. fortunately, though, no one was hurt. and officers on the cape are working to track down a felon with more than 30 violent convictions. we first told you about eric rod he was wanted on drug charges and police say he is considered dangerous. long history includes assault on a police officer on child rape. you should call police if you can help get him off the streets. >> blair: this morning, this man right here is in police custody accused of being part of an assault that sent a u. mass. campus on lock down. william mchugh wen left court in shackles. he's accused of assaulting a student with a gun thursday night. umass amherst ordered a shelter in place and police swarmed the campus. later they took off to framingham where the car was towed from the suspect's home. he and the other suspect were no strangers to the victim. >> looked at the video evidence, it clearly shows, witness interviews, clearly shows the suspect being let in to peer point by a u. mass. student that they knew. treated and released for a head injury. police have not identified a second suspect. >> heather: a man accused of pointing a loaded gun at another driver is now being treated at a local v.a. hospital. egan and his lawyer say the former army medic suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. the 25-year-old was in court yesterday accused of pulling a gun during a road rage incident on route 9 in wellesley thursday. court documents show being began told police, he, quote, messed up and was feeling anxious during the encounter. outside of the court, his lawyer told fox 25 his veteran observed terrible things while fighting in afghanistan. >> when they die that frustration, not being able to help them, didn't go away. >> heather: he is now being evaluated by the va and due back in court next month. a five month old baby has died after being hit by a car in her mother's arms. that mother remains in the hospital this morning but is this story was breaking thursday night on fox 25. friends of the victim gave that photo to fox 25. we are working to confirm the names of victim with police. skid marks show the spot where the driver hit the brakes to try to avoid hitting the pair. a witness overheard the driver police are investigating whether speed was a factor. the driver has not been charged in the crash. >> blair: time now 6:07 and sigh of relief for firefighters after a tense moments at a scene in brighton. this is what it looked like last night on perthshire road. two family home went on all sides. hearing that sound, a third firefighter called for help. >> mayday mayday mayday. >> blair: it turns out those firefighters were not in any serious danger at the moment. the chief tells fox 25 those alarms will sound if someone >> we toured multiple ladders, got up to the attic, did a search and rescue, there was nobody to rescue. >> blair: no one was trapped but four firefighters had some injuries. several people without a place to live, though. the fire started because of some smoking materials not put out properly. this morning, amazing surveillance video captured a major flood as it happened at a v.a. hospital in jamaica plain. it happened on valentine's day. a sprinkler burst because of the drastic change we've seen in temperatures recently. more than 1,000 patients had to be cancelled tore diverted to other va facilities. now employees are working fast to help. >> working overtime. we plan to have evening and weekend to catch up. so i'm very confident in a month we'll get back to normal operation. >> blair: the national va brought in four mobile units to treat people until the facility which could happen next week. >> heather: incredible video there. an animal control officer is on leave this morning. when his wife is charged with animal cruelty charges. tyngsborough officials launched an internal investigation into david rob son. his wife susan is accused of operating an unlicensed kennel out of their home. she is accused of not getting help for a sick puppy who later died. they found dozens of violations at just pups kennel. susan robson has pleaded not guilty. david robson will remain on paid leave until the investigation wraps which could be next week. >> blair: happening today, the supreme court justice, antonin scalia, they lined up outside of the supreme court to see him lying in repose. he made one final visit to the nation's highest court where he spent three decades of his life. carried up the steps in a flag draped casket between a long line of 98 of his former lawer whiches. including his nine children and 36 grandchildren and fellow justices paid their respects along with the president and first lady. there will be a private burial. >> heather: president obama is not expected to attend justice scalia's funeral. instead spending part of the weekend renewing nominees to fill scalia's vacant seat. he carried a heavy binder on potential research of other candidates. and when asked how many names he plans to review. the president laughed off of the question. the republicans are dozens of firefighters are on the scene at this hour as it continues to burn. that smoke so thick, it's actually being picked up on the radar right now, that gives you an idea how thick it is. that smoke can be seen 20 miles north of the fall river area. we do have a live crew -- we do have a crew on the scene. we'll have a live report with stephanie coueignoux coming up in the next half hour. >> blair: by now, you've likely seen this next video, of a crash near the business center. this happened thursday with five people on board. critical condition this morning but the rest of the people are expected to survive. yesterday crews pulled that wreckage as you can see from this video from the water. the faa is now investigating what caused this crash. >> heather: there's a push that change, a lot of thor enjoy when it comes to online shopping. lawmakers will once again consider a bill to try to require online stores to collect sales tax. as justice skin gray reports the idea is being met with mixed reaction from retailers. >> reporter: at hail's kitchen just blocks from the capital, lee an daniels prize herself on keeping prices low. >> our prices are 100% the same as on this saturday, cloudy, drewerry, a little bit of rain. even snow mixing in a few spots. but rising temperatures that's been the story since ai arrived this morning. in boston we're already up to 40 the 40 range now. look at that wind out of the south, at 13 miles an hour. so we do have a breeze out there, a little bit of a wind chill. but no one is complaining with a 40 degree reading prior to sunrise here in late february. so rain and snow ending. now the warming will be taking over throughout the day and really last into most of tomorrow as well. so we have an above normal weekend as far as temperatures go but our next snow chance looks to be arriving late sunday night. right now we have light rain moving away from provincetown. but hung up way on the outer cape. over near nantucket. that will continue to exit and out of here in 30 minutes. then we continue to turn our attention to the west, another batch mixed in with light snow, make i its way across western and central massachusetts. there you see from keene all the way down close to the worcester area. a little snow from time to time. the leading edge of it looks over to methuen 6:30, boston, 6:45 6:45. and then after that band moves through, should expect to wrap it up. high pressure back off to our south and east, that produces southwest wind flow that will warm us up today. there's our warm front. it makes its way across and brings us the positive territory. the temperatures i'm tracking, 27 degrees warmer in bedford this morning than we were yesterday at this time. 19 degrees warmer in boston compared to yesterday. so big changes that you're noticing as you're stepping out early on this saturday. our hour by hour forecast does show some bright thing as we get into the middle and later part of the day. those left over rain showers should wrap up between 8 and 10 in the morning. particularly for ipswich you can expect temperatures up to 51 there's those highs today, lots of 50s on the map. thanks to that south westerly wind. 55 in shirley there. lower 50s in plymouth. 40s in the cape and islands thanks to the chilly ocean water that the winds bring in for you. overnight tonight. still seeing temperatures above normal. most ofs this above freezing with readings 35 to 40 degrees for your sunday morning. future cast for your sunday, increasing clouds, but really after dark and into early monday when our next snow chance arrives. we have this weak front that's going to be stalled out to our south. and a wave of low pressure coming by on it. so if you see shiri at 4 in the morning on monday, a couple of snow showers breaking out, rain showers for the cape and islands. we'll watch that rain lying kind of wafl across cape cod. it does looks like the better chance of accumulating snow boston to the south shore. that could be about an inch and leave us alone. to the seven-day forecast pretty quiet to start the week overall. it's going to be the middle part of the week where we see things more unsettled. i think definitely a big storm system on the way, the question is how much rain or snow do we get out of it. right now it looks like the warmer side but still too early to tell the track. next week by tuesday into wednesday, our next bigger weather maker on the way. >> blair: two have resigned after fabricating water test results. lowell water department identified test little bit of light snow, mainly north and west of worcester where we're seeing light snow left over. as you can see on the radar, some of this coming through, between 8 and 10:00 a.m., i boston expect another round of light rain in the next 15 minutes to be moving in. look at this, 40 degrees in boston right now, 40 bedford. 37 in worcester. all areas well above the freezing mark. there's your day planner, that left over shower through 8:00. by 10, we're drying out. a few peaks of sun at noon, look at those numbers, at 2:00 today. it's mild for february. i have been watching smoke in fall river. you can see the smoke coming all the way up. at one point that plume was extending 25 miles northeast to the brockton area. >> heather: it continues to burn as we speak. take a look the these pictures again. these pictures sent earlier this morning. very dark. incredible scene unfolding this morning on weaver street that we continue to monitor. >> blair: this fire started overnight, still burning strong. one man told us, he woke up to the sound of explosions there. fox 25 stephanie coueignoux arrived on that scene earlier in that the sun is coming up, we get a sense of how close this is happening to homes in the area. >> reporter: and blair, i've been speaking with folks as they've been waking up. they told me they're simply shocked. a lot of them were sleeping. they woke up and saw the flames and smoke outside of their windows. in fact, you can see a couple of people standing outside. a lot of on lookers here, because take a look now that the sun is up, you can get a better idea of how massive this fire is. those flames have gone down a little bit but still a lot of intense smoke and a lot of people waking up really wondering what this is. again, all of this is caused by weaver street. we're just a few blocks away because police and fire departments have been blocking off this entire area for safety reasons as they're continuing to battle this fire. in fact, about 11 different agencies have responded. i do want to get to some video, though, to show you what it those flames were just shooting from this building. i did speak to one person a short time ago and she told me she does believe this was an abandoned building. i can tell you when we first arrived here, police told me they didn't evacuate any residents here. no injuries at this time. situation. dozens of firefighters right now battling to get this fire under control. and i did speak with the fire department earlier. these their number one priority is calling in all available fire. at this point in time, they do not know the cause of this fire. that's something that they're into. but i can tell you, no injuries as of 5 a.m. we're going to continue to check in with firefighters. and no evacuation. but coming up in 30 minutes, i'll be speaking with a woman who woke up to these flames, woke up to the smoke. you'll hear what she has to say. in fall river, stephanie coueignoux, fox 25 >> heather: coming up. the driver who tried to run away from this crash right here is now under police guard in the hospital. after a crash on mill street. they tried to pull him over, minutes later, renovated government center mbta station all lit up green right there. the led lights on the new glass tower of the station were tested friday morning. they can be set to display different colors in dreamed of being on american idol. >> reporter: 7th grader was just like most teenagers, on apps like instagram, facebook, and kik. the days before they died they show messages she exchanged with an 18-year-old man she was to meet that night. that man and classmate are charged with her death norwood crime unit with the regional metro law enforcement council. he says they get one to two cases involving kik each month. >> a case in a variety of different flavors in regard to what people are using kik for. predator type scenarios. >> reporter: in the past school year, police in westborough, were using it to send naked photos to one another. 40% of teenagers use the app they need permission under 13. and those under 13 are prohibited from using it. kik said it cooperated with the fbi in the level investigation, saying, quote, we release certain account information to law enforcement agencies for cases that involve imminent threat of death, loss of security or serious physical injury to any person. officerger rowvitz has said kik helped them on investigations too, but parents need to do their part. >> you need to have the openness between the parent and the come to you and let you little bit of snow to get through in some spots. i'll show you that coming up. but it is warmer. 43 degrees. last time i talked to you about 30 minutes ago, it was 40 in bon of. i'm just watching those temperatures climbing higher and higher. we're headed for some 50s today. february 20th. we do have a southerly wind. that means the southerly air is taking over. rain and snow ending over the next 2 to 3 hours. and our next snow chance will hold ovulate sunday night. overall the weekend, looking there goes the light rain away from the cape and nantucket. here come another batch of light showers. they've been more organized as they're more westward. notice what happens closer to boston, start to crack up and break up and dry up. that's been the trend the early morning hours. anywhere from lowell to framingham. a quick shower coming by. looks like they were going to move into boston around this time. beverly right there in the city, quick passing light sprinkle. and then back here near leominster points north and west from there, that's where we still have some snow. barre garner, just some light snow. won't be lasting much longer, another hour and you should be out of it. as this lower pressure system moves eastward and drags the warmer air right here across southern new england. so a milder west and southwest flow today. and that's why temperatures are running 20 to 25 degrees warmer time. waking up with solid freezing temperatures yesterday. but look at this. above freezing readings, we're thawing out all the way up into maine right now. again, 43 in boston. even 37 in worcester, 38 in orange, 41 in chatham. for the day today, you can expect rising temperatures right through midday, 2, to 4:00, lower 50s and even some sun breaking out. so we'll be looking at a pretty good saturday afternoon overall. if you like the warmer weather, not feeling like wintertime, a taste of more spring like temperatures. not only today but even tomorrow. look at those 50s. we'll see 40s, the cape and islands, thanks to south and southwest wind off of the ocean water. currently running around 40 degrees. overnight tonight. temperatures running 35, 40 degrees, a good 10 degrees above normal. most of us stay out of the freeze zone. and we wake up to a nice sunday morning. so for your sunday afternoon, a couple of high clouds, but overall a good deal of sun. and it's after sunset, we'll begin to see that chance for rain arriving and changing over to snow by monday morning. so there's 4 a.m. we see a few rain and snow showers well south and east. it looks like the bulk of this will stay away from us off to the south. i do want to mention we could get a quick maybe inch of snow anywhere from the pike south ward to wednesday morning. then it's out of here. really little affect on travel for the monday morning commute it's looking. there's your tuesday. temperatures in the upper 30s to around 20 to start. so we begin to see some snow and rain on tuesday. but it's really going to be wednesday and thursday when our next snow arrives. right now the models showing a warmer so it doesn't look like snow showers. heavy rain toward the middle and end of next week. radar and over the top. identity rings going through incredible alerts that they're using to get around fraud alerts. >> heather: hard at work in florida for spring training. mainly hard at a little bit of snow to get through, western areas, barre, up to keene, leominster area, flakes getting through here, but most of that wrapping up in the next one to west of worcester, a little bit of light snow still around. temperatures all in the upper 30s and low and mid 40s. well above freezing, roads wet at times. but i don't expect much of a freezing problem this morning. 8:00, left over shower. 10 in the morgue, drying out. look at these rising temperatures, a few peek peaks of sun by noon. upper 40s, 2:00, 50 degrees, a little taste of spring, i'll tell you what that means for the rest of the weekend. there's that smoke flume still detectable on our dopplar radar there near fall river. >> heather: gives you an idea how thick the smoke is. here's another look at this massive mill fire shortly after the flames broke out around 3:30 this morning. the fire continuance to burn at this hour. just an incredible scene happening near people's homes. >> blair: this fire started around 3:15. one man told us, he woke up to the sound of explosions. this morning, and just spoke to people who live nearby and what they're seeing there. can't get over all of the smoke behind you. >> reporter: and blair, a lot of people shaken up because we think this mill is a neighborhood landmark and to see it go up in flames, is something that's very emotional for them. taking a look behind me, you can see the flames are certainly less high than what we've been showing you over the last few hours. the smoke, though, take a look. that really seems to be the huge issue. that wind blowing it to the north. so if you're waking up and you see all of that smoke outside your window, this is reason why. firefighters have been working very hard to try and get this fire under control. but take a look. i want to show you some video from when we arrived, just around 5:30 this morning. and you can see just how intense the flames were at that point in time. about a dozen fire departments responded and again that call going out around 3:30 this morning. but we're continuing to check in with the fire department. now, i just spoke with one woman, who is very shaken up by all of this. around she told me that she woke up because the power went out for a moment. she heard three explosions. and then saw this. take a listen. >> i saw flames. like orange in the air. what the heck, i go gone stairs to my window right here. and then, just, like, in shock. i can't even process and speak. >> reporter: and, good en, coming back here live, you can see now that the sun is up, this residential. this whole area blocked off for several blocks as firefighters fire. for safety reasons they've been diverting traffic all morning long. they did tell me even though a lot of people live in this area, they haven't had to evacuate anyone. also, no injuries to report of. the cause, though, still under investigation. they're not sure exactly what caused the fire. but, again, we've heard from several people, that they've heard some loud explosions and then the flames. we're continuing to reach out to police and fire and have another live update for you in 30 minutes. in fall river, stephanie coueignoux, fox 25 news. >> blair: one person in the hospital after a shooting in cambridge. putnam avenue and mcgee street yesterday afternoon, look he is telling fox 25, the shooting may have started with some sort of fight. the victim was shot in the leg. no word this morning if the police have any suspects. >> heather: worcester police investigating a an armed home invasion, happening at an apartment on south street around 8 last night. two men used guns to force their way into that apartment. and they did take some cash and shut three victims in a bathroom before leaving. although, fortunately, no one was hurt. officers on the cape meantime, working to track down a felon with more than 30 we first told you about eric rod rick, last night on the fox 25 news at 10. is he is wanted on drug charges and were i can't mut police tell us he is considered to be dangerous. long history includes assault on a police officer and child rape. you should call police if you can help get him off of the streets. >> blair: this morning, this man right here in police custody accused of being part of an assault that sent u. mass. campus on lock down. william mchugh wen repairing broken bridges and highways. it means that drivers pay less at the pump but more on the road. jacqueline felt tells us, the price depends on how many miles you drive. >> reporter: carlos herrera is a contractor. he spends about 3 hours a day driving. he's no fan of traffic. so he'll pay a toll to jump on an express lane to get somewhere faster. >> i think it was 8:50 for four mile, three mile stretch in the middle of rush hour. and i used it twice yesterday. >> reporter: a new study from the budget office, says the federal government would be drivers paid to or mileage fees. the more you drive, the more you pay. the national transportation research group says charges drivers for are this highway use could mean better bridges and fewer potholes. >> that's probably the fairest way to pay for improving our roads and bridges. if you use them, you pay for their upkeep. >> reporter: this would replace the nation's federal gas tax. right now about 18 cents a gallon. the federal gas tax helps pay for transportation projects. the problem is federal government is spending more than in. speed bumps charging all drivers to use roads could raise privacy households. fox 25 news. >> on, watching the thermometer in the 30s. now we're in the 40s here in boston. if you're a fan of more spring like temperatures. we have them for you today. even into tomorrow before more changes arrive. this is a live look at our boston camera, where it's 40 degrees. overcast skies. light rain, starting things out with a little light snow, late last night into overnight hours. that's boosting our temperatures. the warmer air taking over. rain, snow showers ending. our next snow chance, though, as early as sunday night. right now we're watching light rain showers wrapping up as they move by the north shore and closer to boston of you got to go farther to the west to see showers. i've been checking all of the observations around places like leominster, fitchburg, up to keene. everyone really reporting light rain. so i think the radar is trying to play catch up and fill this in. because it was snow at one point. but now, changing over to at least some light rain. here's what's going on. low pressure up to our north. it's going to pass by well to our north today and drag the warm air, right up here from the south and west with it. and we'll see those mooild readings coming back. look at this, we're running 25 to 30 degrees warmer than we you're stepping out and already feels eerily warmer. we don't have that freezing condition like yesterday with dr. purse in the teens and 20s. here's your ipswich forecast today, temperature at 50 degrees at 1:00 with sun breaking through. later on tonight, keep it on the milder side too with above freezing readings overnight. there are those 50s all across the board, despite cloudslinger around in a few spots. with that southwest wind, we should be able to warm up. we will have lower numbers for the cape and islands, because the water is so cold right now, when the swegs winds come come over those chilly waters. we'll keep temperatures similar to the temperatures there. 35 degrees overnight, most of us stay above freezing except normally colder pockets. sunday morning, we wake up with sun. future cast keeps us dry on sunday during the day. and really most of the night. this is a brand new model run you had snow further upward. this is even more off shore. our glancing shot at light accumulations. about an inch or less, i think. anywhere from the pike southward by monday morning. that's all we'll be looking at. there's 8:00 in the morning on monday. just left over rain there for nantucket. monday afternoon, shaping up pretty nice. here's the 7 day. we do have interesting things to talk about. your weekend always in view looks great. it's really going to be tuesday night. when that next snow chance arrives. then the warm air starts to build in. changing over to some rain and it looks like right now, thursday will be the focus for the heavier rain. still too early to make the exact track. but just know that's what we're watching by the middle of next week. >> blair: two members of the lowell's water department has now resigned after fabricating test results. they discovered the problem when noticing identical test readings even though proper testing was not happening, the city's water is massive fire burning right now. this is happening at a fall river mill, it is up in flames. close to a dozen different agencies out there this morning continuing to work to try to contain it. >> get through the rain and snow for some people. >> jason: yeah, it's not going to be that bad. in fact, we have a warm front coming by. we had a few showers in the overnight. right now we're tapering that down and replace it with a lot of warm air out of the south and the radar view, light rain coming over towards the east coast. but it is really wrapping up. and falling apart. we're kind of ringing things out over the higher terrain to the west. places like worcester, leominster, west towards barre, still some rain over the next hour. but then it should wrap up for you. 44 in boston. way above normal. so drying out through 10:00 a.m. a few peaks of sun through noon and 50 at 2:00. not bad for late february. still visible on the radar, the smoke plume near fall river. we've been tracking that this morning, blair and heather. >> heather: yes, we have. that mill fire continues to burn at this hour in fall river. take a look at this picture snapped just right after the fire started about 3:15 this morning. this all happening on weaver street. >> blair: and one man telling us, he woke up to the sound of explosions. fox 25 stephanie coueignoux arrived on that scene shortly after the start in fall river. and testify, i know you spoke they're waking up to. >> reporter: yeah, they're very shaken up. because as you can imagine, you hear some explosions, you look outside and you see a massive fire just outside your window. people are just saying this is unbelievable. taking a look behind me, you can see this very intense smoke. we arrived about a half an hour ago and you saw flames during that live shot. now we can't see any flames. but, again, this smoke making visibility here very tough. again, you can still see some of those red blinking lights from the fire trucks. dozens, again, firefighters and police officers still here on scene. now, neighbors told me that this mill is empty. firefighters still unsure of that. that's what neighbors are telling us this morning. and i just spoke with firefighters. they say so far, no reported injuries. but take a look. i do want to show you some video and flames at that point in time were incredibly intense. in fact, as we were driving here. we could see the glow of this fire from several miles away. it was just that intense. again, about a dozen fire departments responded. that call going out at around 3:30 this morning. and, again, people waiting up, very shaken up. after power briefly wen the out. they heard some explosions, they came outside to see what's going on and they saw this massive fire. they are telling me that this mill has been a neighborhood landmark. they're very familiar with it and it's just very emotional for them as they're waking up to see burning in flames. now, firefighters continuing to pour water on this fire. when we arrived, police had already blocked off several blocks of this area for safety reasons. so if you're waking up and driving around this area, again, firefighters continue to battle this blaze. i did ask about a cause right now. that is still under investigation. they say their number one priority is getting enough manpower out here. they've been calling firefighters, waking them up. those off duty, asking them to come here because they just need as many people here on the ground as possible. we're continuing to check in with them and have for a man from newton. they racked up $16,000 in credit card bills and as we learned went to great lengths to pull it off. ted daniel reports, the thieves made sure, the fraud made by big ticket purchases never arrived. >> reporter: meet the real peter from newton, not the imposter who stole the home phone and credit. it all began to unravel yesterday when he called verizon wireless to tell them his cell phone wasn't working. >> i was thinking it was a mistake. i didn't think anything of it. >> reporter: the verizon operator told him, his phone no longer existed on the network, but it had transferred to it took a few minutes to get his cell phone working again. this one from the credit card company capital one. >> they looked at charges posted during the time frame that my cell phone was not available to me. and sure enough, there was probably over $16,000 in charges. >> reporter: the charges were made in new york city. in a three hour time period. somebody had a field day buying big ticket items at an apple store on peter's account. >> i didn't believe him. i thought he was joking. sometimes i can't take him seriously because he likes to say stuff like that. but then, you know, i actually saw the seriousness of it. and i was shaking my head. i couldn't believe it. >> and it gets worse. peter then discovered his landline had also been stolen. >> if a merchant was trying to reach me at home to verify a purchase, i wasn't even able to get a hold of. the house phone was being forwarded to another telephone number. played out. >> reporter: he's not sure why he was targeted or how the thieves knew the private pass codes to change as alter his accounts. since the charges were unauthorized, he's off the hook, it won't cost him any money but it is costing him a lot steadily since i've been in early this morning. despite cloud cover, despite even a little bit of rain around, we're still managing to climb up on the thermometer. right now 44 in boston. cloudy skies but i do think a little bit of sun will peak through later today. look at that southerly wind, 18 miles per hour, coming out of the south. that's why we're starting to warm up. still a little bit of a wind chill at 36 degrees thanks to the southerly wind. even though it's a warm flow. we still have to account for that because it's still in the 40s. take a look. warm, that's the deal. little we have left of it. our next snow chance comes up late sunday night. i think most of the weekend, we're in good shape. right now in the 30s in worcester, bedford, at had 4. hyannis 2. all of these temperatures way above normal this time of morning. look at the satellite and radar picture, you do see a left over sprinkles coming in along the north shore along the metrowest locations. a little bit of light rain for fitchburg. over to new hampshire a passing light rain shower. the radar is showing some snow mixed in here. but i've checked all of the observations, the rain trying to play catch up. we did have the snow overnight in some locations. we're warming up today, this disturbance passing by well to our north. that's why it's dragging the warm air in here for us. look at the difference that we're feeling this morning, it feels 25 to 30 degrees milder compared to yesterday at this time. 20s. so our boston temperature trend rising still into the lower 50s by 1:00 today. some sun peaks through and then into the evening, partly cloudy skies, upper 40s after sunset for your saturday night plans. a bit of a please out there. high temperatures today. waltham at 51. temperatures slightly lower for the cape and islands thanks to that south and southwest wind coming over the cooler waters still way above normal. check out lows tonight, most of us staying above freezing for your saturday night. waking up tomorrow morning, most cloudy skies future cast keeps us fairly quiet during the day on sunday. after dark sunday night into early monday, reduce that chance light snow or rain but really looks like most of this will pass most to our south. future cast, light snow mix and then moving out of here during the drive time. i think that solution is fairly weather center we are seeing changes. >> jason: absolutely. already seeing the snow and rain showers wrapping up from the overnight hours. that's because we have a warm front coming by and southwest wind going to take over and push our temperatures all the way in the 50s in a lot of spots. let me take you out to the worcester area right now a little bit of light rain. the radar showing light snow, i checked all of the everythingsos, it looks all of changed over to rain at this hour. 33 in new bedford and lawrence. had 44 in boston and 47 in plymouth right now. and the sun hasn't been able to work on the temperatures right now. southerly wind, boosting our temperatures. nearing the 50 degree mark as early as 1:00 today as the skies dry up. i'll tell you what the the he's are of the weekend has in store straight ahead. >> heather: back to the breaking news happening on the south coast where a mill continues to burn at this hour in fall river. flames breaking out at 3:15 this morning. >> blair: this happening on weaver street and one man saying he woke up to the sound of explosions. stephanie coueignoux speaking with residents are stephanie, it looks like the flames are out and smoke that firefighters are now dealing with? >> reporter: that's a big concern for firefighters as they're battling the fire. of course that very intense smoke causing bad visibility and perhaps some breathing problems. that's something we're going to be asking. but taking a look behind me. in just the last 10 minutes or so, i'm going to have my photographer zoom into the area. you can actually see some flames popping back up. 30 minutes ago, we didn't see any flames, but once again, those flames are now visible. very big concern. this started just after 3 a.m. and this could be hours more in the process. as they continue to put out this fire. taking a look at some video, though, i want to show you how intense those flames were when we arrived. this is just after 5 this morning. this is just an incredibly large fire. those flames shooting up in the air. they were advise incident as we were driving in. we saw that red glow in the area. here's what we're hearing, neighbors tell us this is an abandoned mill and firefighters say no injuries reported so far. and they did not have to evacuate any homes in the area. but, again, a lot of people waking up after they heard several explosions and then saw this outside of their window. i just spoke with a window a short time ago, she's very shaken up by all of this. she's lived here for a long time. she's told me this mill is a neighborhood landmark. went off for a brief moment, heard those explosions and then saw the flames. take a listen. >> i saw flames like orange in the air. i was like what the heck, i went downstairs, go to my window right here. and then, just, like, in shock. i can't even process and speak. >> reporter: all morning long, taking a look, i'm going to have my photographer pan in, we've been seeing people driving in and parking on this hill, just to watch this intense flames and smoke. a lot of people wondering what it's all about. you can see this area is surrounded by homes. for safety reasons, even though police didn't have to evacuate the area, what they did was they blocked off this area as firefighters continue to pour water on this fire. now, i did ask about a cause of the fire, that is still under investigation. i've also called the fire marshal's office, still waiting to hear back. but as soon as we have an also have another live report in 30 minutes. in fall working to track down this man, a felon with more than 30 violent convictions to his name. fox 25 at 10, we first told you about, he is wanted on drug charges and police tell us he is considered to be being accused of an assault that sent a u mass. campus on lock down. 19-year-old william mchugh wen left court in shackles, i a used of assaulting a student with a gun in freshman dorm thursday night. sky fox flew over the scene as they issued a shelter in place order. later they took off to framingham where a car was towed from mccould you wen's family home police say he and another suspect were no strangers to the victim. >> we looked at the video evidence. clearly shows -- and our witness interviews -- clearly shows both suspects being let in to that they knew. >> blair: that victim was treated at least for a head injury. police have not yet identified the second suspect. >> heather: man accused of pointing a loaded gun at another driver is now being treated at a local v.a. hospital. ian beagan and his lawyer say the former army medic suffers from ptsd. the 25-year-old was in court yesterday, accused of pulling a gun during a road rage incident that happened on 9 route 9 in wellesley yesterday. he, quote, messed up, and feeling anxious during the encounter. outside of court, his lawyer told fox 25 the veteran witnessed some terrible things while serving in afghanistan. >> his responsibility in his mind was to care for those guys. and when they died,s that frustration of not being able to help them didn't go away. >> heather: he's being evaluated by the va and due back in court next month. died after being hit by a car while in her mother's arms. the mother remains in the hospital she is expected to survive. this is breaking news yesterday on fox 25, friends giving us that photo you just saw. we're working to confirm the names of the mother and child with police. skid marks show the spot where the driver hit the brakes to try to avoid hitting the pair. a witness overheard the driver saying, he didn't see the mother and child. police are investigating whether speed was a factor. right now, though, the driver has not been charged in the crash. a sigh of rebeef for boston firefighters after a tense scene in brighton. this is what it looked like at perthshire home. that two story home went up in flames. hearing that sound, a third firefighter called for help. >> mayday mayday mayday! a member with a path device going off. firefighters were not in any serious danger. those alarms will sound if someone does not move for about 30 seconds. >> we toured multiple ladders got up to the attic, did a quick search and rescue, there was nobody to rescue. >> blair: again, no one there was trapped but four firefighters had minor injuries. seven people are now without a place to live and the fire department tells fox 25, the fire likely started because of some smoking materials not put out properly. surveillance video captured a major flood as it happened at the v.a. hospital in jamaica plains. unbelievable to watch this time lapse footage that shows the water seeping into the facility on valentine's day. investigators say a sprinkler pipe burst because of the drastic change we've seen here in temperatures. more than 1,000 patients had to be cancelled or diverted to near va facilities. now employees working fast to help. >> we plan to work overtime, plan to have evening and weekend clinic to catch up. so i'm very confident in a normal operation. >> blair: the national va brought in four mobile units to treat people until the facility we reopens which could happen next week. happening today, the funeral for supreme court justice antonin scalia. people lined up outside the court to see justice scalia lying in repose, he made one final visit to the supreme court where he spent three decades of his life. he was carried up the steps in a flag draped casket. inside his family, including his nine children and 36 grandchildren, and fellow justices, paid their respects along with the president and first lady. there will be a private burial. >> heather: and president obama is not expected to attend scalia's funeral and will spend part of the weekend to review nominees to fill his vacant court seat. he carried a heavy binder of background information and research of several potential office on friday, and warmer than we were at this time. that's the bottom line. warming temperatures with a a warm front coming by today. helping to boost our ratings into the 50s in many locations. right now, cloudy, 44 but look 17 miles per hour. so there's a bit of a breeze. we have to mention that wind chill but compared to yesterday we are warming up. the warm air taking over. the rain and snow showers overnight, those are pretty much wrapped up. our next snow chance looked to hold ovulate sunday night. the new models come in and that chance looks fairly low at this point. temperatures 40 in worcester, 44 boston, 47 new bedford, and plymouth right now. we do see light rain showers trying to push off of the coastline. a couple sprinkles left over in a few patchy locations. the overall theme here, mild air already taking over. there's our storm system. it's going to pass way to the north of us. we stay on the warm side of it. southwest wind and look what we're running 15 to 25 degrees milder compared to yesterday at this time. our temperatures today, warming into the lower 50s by 2:00 today. the record is 68. so we're not going to get that warm. but with a little sun peaking out, overall going to be feeling more like a spring day here in late february. there are your temperatures today. and dover at 53, 49 in rockport. thanks to ocean affect component to your temperatures, you'll see that for provincetown, chatham, hyannis as well. but 50s as you go inland away from that cooler water. overnight lows tonight, most of us above freezing. so yet another night of temperatures remaining above normal. we'll have a west, northwest wind overnight. and that's going to start to usher in some cooler air and later on sunday. but really sunday stays fairly mild as well. with a good deal of sunshine. there's future cast, 4:30, just some high clouds sunday afternoon. you see all of that rain passing by to our south, most of it is going to stay there. although there's that chance lifts northward, depending on the track of the week lull going that's going by, a quick inch of snow mainly for the pike, southward toward plymouth county, i think that's the best chance or approximate any left over snow showers early monday morning. a return to sunshine once again. and we stay that way for better part of tuesday. then tuesday night, things begin to change. we start to see some snow showers become a possibility in the forecast. but then the main system associated with all of this, looks to pass well to our west on thursday. so right now, it looks like a much rainier scenario. that's the freezing line, way up to canada with this next set up. there's the 7 day with the weekend always in view. looking good with the readings the in next couple of days. we do look to turn outside. jason brewer is in the weather center and tracking changes. >> jason: absolutely. temperatures in the 40s in many locations and i'm tracking the very last of the light showers moving through. a look at the big picture, a little snow in the overnight as well. even that wrapped up and turned to rain. a little left over drizzle and cloudy skies. temperatures right now, low to mid 30s, hyannis over to bedford and even into boston. south and southwest wind, 25, to 30 miles an hour wind gust it is a bit breezy. but that breeze is warm coming out of the southwest generally speaking. drying up through 10:00 a.m. warming up near 50. should be able to get there with a few peaks of sun from 2 to 4:00 today. very mild for friday. we have been watching that fire near fall river on doppler radar. that's a look at the smoke flume that was stretching all the way and east near the pembroke area, just hours ago. blair, heather. >> heather: breaking news following on the south coast for you all morning long. right now no visible flames at this hour. although they were visible at 6 a.m. but smoke continues to build. we've been watching it. >> blair: hours and hours on weaver street. one man told us, he spoke up to the sound of explosion. a lot of people concerned about this. fox 25 stephanie coueignoux updating all morning. what's the latest there now. >> reporter: and blair, i was speaking with some residents who told me this was the second time this same abandoned mill has caught fire in just about a year. taking a look behind me. you can see all of that smoke that jason brewer was talking about. and in just the last 30 seconds, we were seeing some flames popping up. and i don't know actually if my photographer can zoom in. it's a little hard to see with the smoke. but we are seeing another flare up again. the last few hours, the flames being put out and popping back up again. this could be several more hours at the very least as firefighters are continuing to pour water on this massive fire. but take a look. i want to show you some video from around 5:30 this morning. this is when we first arrived. and those flames incredibly intense of you can see just the orange flames coming from this building right here. about a dozen fire departments now responding. and i just spoke with the fire department. they still say their number one priority is getting even more firefighters out here. they're still making calls. they're still asking for i can't crews to come here to help with this enormous effort. now, again, the call happened around 3, 3:30 this morning. people telling us that they heard several explosions. the power went out for just about a minute. and then they saw these incredible flames from their windows were once police and fire arrived. this entire area. now, they didn't have to evacuate any homes because this is a very residential area. but they did start diverting traffic. so if you're planning on driving around this area, around weaver street. do expect some rerouted traffic patterns. and, again, about 11 different agencies working to put that fire out. no injuries right now. but we've been continuing to talk about that smoke. that continues to be an issue right now. so far no word if any firefighters have had any issues with smoke inhalation. but, again, that's something that we're continuing to ask about. in terms of the cause, i've asked about a cause, and, again, that is still under investigation, but, again, residents telling me that this is the second time in about a year, this mill has caught fire. and coming up in 30 minutes, i've been speaking with residents who woke up to these flames. and you'll hear from a woman very emotional about what happened. again, that's coming up in 30 minutes. in ten cars broken into near the walking trails. many of the victims left valuables out in open sight and came back to find their windows broken. they will be ramping up patrols in that area. >> heather: marlboro police asking for help in identifying this woman right here. they say she's a suspect of a fake check withdrawal scheme in franklin and also the interest of car break ins in marlboro. she's believed to be driving a newer ford model. call the police if you know anything. >> blair: democratic president shall candidates bernie sanders and hillary clinton will battle both of them dizzying events leading up to the vote and both trying to capture the latino and african american votes. >> heather: republicans are voting in the republican primary in south carolina. right now polls show donald trump in the lead. but it is an all out brawl for second place between ted cruz, marco rubio, and jeb bush. in the meantime, ben carson, is trailing but is staying in the race for now, hoping for a surprise turn out. >> blair: and a campaign rally for rubio in south carolina was cut short on friday when someone there collapsed. and this is how he land the situation. >> i think what we can still see some off the in distance. but the smoke is still a real problem there. you can see how many people live so closely around that mill. the good news, no one is hurt. but not yet clear what neighbors say the day before she died. lovell showed them kik messages with an 18-year-old man she was to meet that night. that man and a classmate from virginia tech with are charged with her death. >> we've send seen a fair amount of cases involving kik. >> reporter: norwood police officer andrew is part of the crime unit with the regional metro law enforcement council. he says they get one to two >> cases come in a variety of different flavors in regard to what people are using kik for. but a lot of what we've seen have been predator like scenario. >> reporter: in the past school year, police in westfield said some elementary students were to one another. kik says 40% of teenagers use the app. you need permission under 18. and those under 13 are prohiblted from using it. the app let's you exchange texts, anonymously. they prohibited with the fbi in the investigation. we release certain information to law enforcement agencies for cases that involve imminent threat of death, loss of security, or serious threat of injury to any person. officer says kik has helped them on investigation too. but says parents need to do their part. >> they need to have openness between the parents and the child so they're not afraid to come to you and let you know that something is amiss. do, check their digital devices, take control of restrictions and talk with your kids. you may wrapped up leaving us with cloudy skies but still warm temperatures on the way, despite cloudslingers through the morning hours. although right now, 44 degrees. we're running pretty warm this time of year. south winds the culprit here. bringing in that warmth. so taking over on the warmth, the rain and snow wrapping up. and our next snow chance as early as sunday night. but that looks like a very low chance right now. so overall, we're going to keep it pretty quiet this weekend. temperaturewise right now, 30s in the farther western areas but 40s everywhere else already. still one left over rain shower for cape anne around gloucester. looks like clouds there. that's headed off shore now. real quickly south southwest winds take over and warm us up. this disturbance passing way to our north and we're on the warm side of this one today. that's why we're seeing these temperatures way warmer than we were yesterday at this time. i put all of those pluses in front of the numbers so you can see, 10, 20 degrees warmer right now than we were yesterday at this time. even 25 degrees warmer in some locations. there your high temperatures today. anywhere from boston to would about urn back to natick, foxboro, dedham, all of the low to mid 50s here. 2, 3:00, the warmest part of the day. we'll see some mid 40s for the cape and islands. the cold ocean water the culprit there. still above normal readings anywhere you go in southern new england. there's plymouth specifically. sun trying to break through time to time. and downward slide there to the mid 40s. but overnight lows, don't expect too much chill. 35, 40 range. and we'll see partly cloudy skies, a nice evening to be out overall with no threat for any rain or snow. sunday morning, we wake up with sunny skies. sunday afternoon, a few high clouds building in. but still keeping it dry. overnight sunday night, into early monday. we had a weak wave of low pressure passing way off of our coastline and it looks like it's going to stay far enough away to keep most of us out of the snow and mix. however, we do want to watch the track closely. see the model in the morning, a rain snow mix for the cape and islands and then that just plows off to the east of us and leaves us alone for the rest of the morning drive time. there's a chance of light accumulations for this. if it tracks a little farther northward but an inch or less from the pike southward is what i'd be watching. monday, it's sunny again and we're off to a nice start to the week. looking great, 51 today, 49 tomorrow, and we'll see mostly sunny skies on your sunday. by monday. looking pretty good, quick shot of early morning rain and snow gets out of here. tuesday night, begin to see that chance of snow on the build. temperatures start to build up, though, late tuesday night on into wednesday. we start to change it over to rain. and then thursday at this time, both of our models are suggesting the storm passes way to our west. so it's going to be rain with that scenario. and warm temperatures, at least by february standards. we'll be watching any subtle changes to that track, of course, keep you updated throughout the week. >> river. the flames out now. but as you can see, the smoke still billowing. it can be seen for miles. we do have a crew on the scene. we've been talking with neighbors affected by all of this. a live most of the rain and the snow moved on. for now, fox 25's weather meteorologist jason brewer is in the weather center and temperatures are on the rise today. >> jason: they are. i want to show you the map. 15, 20, even 25 degrees warmer right now than where we were yesterday at this time. when we were waking up yesterday, maybe delaying the dog walk, today the all clear. in fact, rain moved out as well. temperatures running in the you can see right now, the last of those rain showers, hugging up against cape anne and provincetown and east plymouth county. those moving away in the next half hour as well. drying out through 10:00 a.m., a couple of peaks of sunshine through the midday and on into 4:00, it's mild for february. look at those temperatures, topping the 50 degree mark today. i'll be back with our next snow chance coming up. >> heather: we want to get back to the breaking news on the south coast. this video shows massive flames this morning. destroying that mill in fall river. >> blair: they really were intense at one point. this fire started overnight. one man telling us, he woke up to the sound of explosions, now there's a lot of smoke there left behind and fox 25 stephanie coueignoux is there in fall river. stephanie, you've been updating us us all morning long. the firefighters their work is far from over at this point. >> reporter: and they're so concerned about hot spots and one person that i just spoke with said, when a fire was at actually feel the heat coming from those flames blocked away. but taking a live look behind me, you can see that most of the flames are now out. we have been seeing a couple of hot spots continuing to pop up over the past few hours. and granted, the smoke is still thick. but finally, we can actually see some of that damage. you can see the shell of this building right here because of that massive fire. again, the smoke continuing to be a big issue for firefighters. as they have been battling this fire for hours now. but take a look. i do want to show you some video that we took just around 5:00 this morning. now what we're being told by neighbors is this is an abandoned mill. they say this is second time this mill has caught fire in this past year. right now the cause is under investigation. but what we're being told by people is they woke up to three loud explosions. and that's when the certify the call went out about 3 this morning. about a dozen fire agencies responded to this fire. i also spoke to one woman who was shaken up by all of this. she lives just down the street. she told me this mill has been a neighborhood landmark. power went out. heard those explosions and then saw the flames. take a listen. >> i saw flames. like orange in the air. what the heck, i went downstairs to my window right here. and then, like, just in shock. i can't even process and speak. frjts >> . >> reporter: and a lot of people really shaken up. this is in a very residential area. what we're hearing, again, is the mill has been abandoned for quite some time. the cause still under investigation. i've been reaching out to the fire department and to the fire marshal's office to see whether they believe that this was a suspicious in any nature or not. as soon as i have an update, i will let you know. in fall river, stephanie coueignoux, fox 25 morning news. >> heather: while that fire was at its peak peak, the smoke plume was so big, it was actually advise able on weather radar. it almosts looks like a tornado cone, the shape of it. it was stretched 25 miles towards pembroke. we will continue that right here. you home at boston med flight has confirmed for us in the past hour from now, a victim has been air lifted. crews on the scene of east central street. we have calls out to learn more about what happened. more fires as soon as we get more information. >> blair: one person in the hospital after a shooting in cambridge. on the scene as they respond to putnam avenue and mcgee yesterday afternoon. it may have started with some sort of fight. they have no suspects. >> heather: worcester police investigating a home armed invasion last night around 8:00. two men used guns to force their way into that apartment. they took some cash and actually shut three victims into a bathroom before leaving. but fortunately, no one was hurt. officers on the cape are working to track down a felon with more than 30 violent convictions to his name. we first told you about this man, eric roderick last night on fox 25 news at 10. he is wanted on drug charges and police tell us he is considered dangerous. his long history, includes assault on a police officer and child rape. >> blair: this morning, this man right here is in police an assault that sent a u. mass. campus on lock down. william mckeown left court in shackles. he's accused of assaulting a student with a gun in a freshman dorm thursday night. sky fox flew over the scene as they issued a shelter in place order. later they took off to framingham where a car was towed from mckeown's family home. police say he and another suspect were no strangers to the victim. >> looked at video evidence. clearly shows -- and as well as our witness interviews, clearly shows both suspects let in to peer point by a student they knew. >> heather: a man accused of pointing a gun at another driver is now being treated at a local v.a. hospital. ebegan beagan and his lawyer say the former army medic did the 25-year-old in court yesterday accused of pulling a gun during a road rage incident on route 9 in wellesley thursday. he was feeling anxious, during the encounter. outside of court, his lawyer told fox 25, the veteran witnessed terrible things while serving in afghanistan. >> his responsibility in his mind to care for those guys. and when they die, that frustration, not being able to help them go away. >> heather: beagan being evaluated by the a and due back in court next month. heartbreaking news to you, that 5-month-old baby hit by a car in her mother's arm has died. the mother remains in the survive. this is a story brought to you on fox 25. friends of the victim gave us that photo that you just saw. we are working to confirm the names of the mother and daughter with police. skid marks at the scene show the brakes to try to avoid the pair. a witness overheard the driver saying he didn't see them. police are now investigating whether speed was a factor. right now that driver has not been charged in the crash. >> blair: a sigh of relief for boston firefighters after some tense moments at a scene in brighton. this is what it looked like last night on perthshire road. that two family home went up in flames with crews attacking it from both sides when alarms went off. hearing that sound, a third firefighter called for help. >> mayday mayday mayday. a member in the attic with a path device going off. >> blair: it turns out those firefighters were not in any serious danger. the chief tells fox 25, those alarms will sound if someone does not move for about 30 seconds. >> we drew multiple ladders got up to the attic, did a quick search, and rescue. there was nobody to rescue. >> blair: again, no one there bass actually trapped but four firefighters had minor injuries and seven people are now without a place to live. 25, that fire likely started, about of some smoking materials not put out properly. this surveillance video you're about to see, captured a major flood as it happened at a v.a. hospital in jamaica plains. watch this time lapse footage shows the water seeping into the facility on valentine's day. investigators say a sprinkler pipe burst because of the drastic change we've seen here recently in temperatures. more than 1,000 patients had to be cancelled or diverted to nearby va facilities. now employees are working fast to help. >> we plan to have evening and weekend clinic to catch up. so i'm very confident in a month we'll get back to normal operation. >> blair: the national va brought in four mobile units to operate inially the facility reopens which could happen next week. >> heather: a teen is recovering after falling into an icy river. this was in fall river yesterday. right behind the police station, as a matter of fact. up to his neck for about five minutes. fortunately, police were able to rescue him. and he is expected to be okay now. >> blair: happening today, the funeral for supreme court justice antonin scalia. they lined up outside of the supreme court seeing scalia lying in repose. he'll make one more visit to the highest court where he spent three decades of his life. he was carried up the steps in the flag draped casket, 90 family and including nine children and 36 grand children, along with fellow justices paid their respects. also there, the president and first lady. there will be a private burial. >> heather: president obama is not expected to attend justice scalia's funeral. and instead will spend the weekend research candidates to replace scalia. you can see the binder on the the oval office on friday. when asked how many nominees he is researching, the president laughed off the question. republicans say the president should let the next president decide a replacement. the democrats are hoping for support in nevada, while republicans are out in south carolina hoping for support of voters there. coming up, how both sides prepare for morning, another live look in fall river shows lots of smoke they're dealing with. a better sense now that the sun is up. the flames are mostly out of this mill fire we've been following all morning for you. firefighters have been battling this since about 3:00 this morning when it all started. we want too take you back and show you what it looked like back then. had is impressive video. this is what it looked like when 3:00 this morning. that mill taken over by intense flames. firefighters are telling us, no one was hurt in this, and at this hour, still no word on exactly how it started. we still have a crew there right now at the scene giving updates ands with we get more information, we'll get that to you. >> heather: time now 9:15. and there's a deal for how to pay for crumbling bridges and highways. it will mean that drivers pay less at the pump but more on the road. it's a trade off. jacquelin felt tells us the price would depend on how many miles you drive. >> reporter: carlos herrera is a contractor. he spends about 3 hours a day driving. he's no fan oftra of course. so he'll pay a toll to jump on an express lane to get somewhere faster. >> i think it was 8.50 for a three mile stretch in the middle of rush hour. and i used it twice yesterday. >> reporter: a new study says better off financially if all drivers paid toll or mileage fees. the more you drive, the more you pay. the national transportation group, trip, says charging tolls could mean better bridges and fewer potholes. >> that's probably the fairest way to pay for our improving our roads and bridges, if you use them, you pay for their upkeep. >> reporter: this would replace the nation's federal gas tax. right now about 18 cents a gallon. the federal gas tax, helps pay for transportation projects. the problem is the federal government is spending more than the gas tax is bringing in. the study also identifies speed bumps, charging all drivers to use roads could raise privacy concerns and hurts lower income households. in washington, jacqueline felt, fox 25 news. >> heather: last year congress, passed a highway bill that will last until 2021. >> blair: this morning, we're yet? a helicopter went down near the pearl harbor visitor center. it happened yesterday with five people on board. including a 15-year-old boy who remains in critical condition. the other people expected to morning, i've been watching temperatures rising since about midnight last night. and now cloudy keys, 45 degrees, southerly wind flow continue to bring our temperatures warm. dusting reporting of snow overnight as well. those now beginning to melt away. as all of our temperatures are well above the freezing mark. we do have a wind chill at 37. that's because of the good u.s.sty south wind. that's all relative. compared to yesterday at this time. we are pay warmer. the warmer air is taking over. rain and snow wrapped up. our next chance could be tomorrow night but a low threat at this time. temperaturewise, low 40s at this time. a few 30s in keene and new hampshire. all about 38 degrees. light wind away from cape anne over provincetown and new hampshire. another 30 minutes and then it's all wrapped up. here's that southwestly wind flow with our warm front come by today. that's, again, why we're warming right now. that mild flow associated with this storm passing well to our north. so on the warm side of it. 24 hour temperature change is significant. so i love to should this map on those days. running about 15, 20 degrees warmer right now than we were yesterday at this time. check out these high temperatures, low 50s in most spots, ipswich, topsfield, beverly lynn, all about 52, 53. closer to the water. south, southwest wind over the water like that, keep it 46 at chatham. 54 in brockton today. hour by hour, readings at 50 from about 1 to 3:00 and then march back downward to the lower 40s after 4 tonight. not sink down to the bottom. overnight lows not that cold. still going to be ahead of the sunday. for tonight, above normal temps, running about 35 to 40. very few freezing areas. wake up with most cloudy skies in the afternoon. just high clouds. overnight, this model run is showing all of the moisture with weak wave of low pressure. coming down our coastal areas off shore. not seeing much in the way of accumulation. maybe a quick inch in a few spots. mainly south of the pike. but, again, this model showing weak disturbance coming by. and then a return to sunshine on monday afternoon. so the weekend always in view, looking great. 51 today, 41 tomorrow. so get out there, no excuses your seven-day forecast does get a bit more unsettled. it's really late tuesday, where we begin to see a snow chance begin to break out. then i expect rising temperatures on still an issue. and with that smoke clearing, you can get a sense of the devastation here and how much of this mill is gone now. we do have a crew on the scene speaking with neighbors who are affected. this happening in a very residential neighborhood. we'll bring you more information with a live report coming up in 10 minutes from now. >> blair: the fbi wants you to see this video right here. over and over. it shows a bold bank robber who is in and out less than 60 seconds. >> heather: he's being called the incognito bandit because some very specific steps that he is taking to try to cover his tracks. but as fox 25 bob ward reveals, this robber is not perfect. >> reporter: there's a really good reason why this guy is he is so careful, he even covers up his shoes. but make no mistake, the feds believe the incognito bandit is armed and dangerous. the surveillance images from five bank robberies are crystal clear. and they show the same disturbing image. a masked hooded man covered from head to toe, carrying a gun. each bank robbery so similar, it led to the fbi giving him a high priority and a unique name. the incognito bandit. >> we call him the incognito bandit, because he's dressed head to toe in black. there's no skin, there's no identifiable tattoos or scars or marks that can give him away. >> reporter: the incognito bandit is so careful, he even covers up footprint. >> reporter: investigators tell me the incognito bandit is all he's in and out of the bank in less than a minute. and the feds think the ban did it is getting more dangerous with each hold up because of the way he holds his gun. >> he's banged it on the indiana cooer, letting them know that he does have a gun. that makes us a little more concerned than just having it in his hand. >> reporter: but the bandit is not perfect. one witness saw him without his mask and produced this sketch. they are looking for african american male in his 20s. >> we want him to be stopped before he still on the scene, putting out hot spots after a massive fire at a mill in fall river. >> blair: and now you get a sense of how bad that devastation is, happening on weaver street. firefighters tell for waking up with us. we want to check in with jason brewer at the weather center. talk about the 50s in february. sounds good to me. >> jason: i know. no complaints from heather this morning. we're seeing a big turn around when you look at the temperature change map. 10, 15, 20 degrees warmer than yesterday at this time. we're already seeing the changes when we begin our saturday. numbers in upper 30s. worcester at 38. otherwise middle 40s. rain has moved out. lingering for outer cape and cape anne. very soon under dry conditions. warm up today, nearing 50 we're there, 2, 4:00, a few peaks of sun coming through. and the 50s hang around into the weekend. more on that and tell you when snow can return in just a bit. >> heather: back to that breaking news on the south coast now. as we've been reporting for you all morning long, a fire happening at a mill. we can tell you that that fire is mostly out now. but they're still putting out hot spots this hour. 3:00. stephanie coueignoux has been at the scene all morning long and speaking with neighbors add learning more on this. i know you've been talking with people, it's the second fire at that mill in just the last year? >> reporter: that's what residents are telling me, blair. that it happened again. they told me that this mill has time. taking a look behind me, you can see finally the smoke has now and you can get a better idea as to the damage. you can see some of the structure right there. and some of those walls have been burned away. we haven't seen any hot spots in the last 30 minutes or so. again, that is still an issue here on scene. as firefighters continue to pour water onto this fire right here. but i do want to get you to some video just after 5 this morning. this is when we first arrived. and, again, the fire itself started at around 3 this morning. but the flames when we arrived, still incredibly intense. as we were driving down here, we actually saw that orange glow in the sky. about a dozen fire departments responded. and when i called the fire department a short time ago, they told me they were still calling in off duty firefighters to continue to battle this fire. that is how much manpower they're using right now. people told us right before that fire, they heard several loud the power momentarily went out. they looked out the windows to see what was going on. and that's when they started too see the flames. police immediately blocked off this entire area, as you saw, when i was live just a few seconds ago. this is a very residential area, a lot of homes around here. now, they didn't have to evacuate any homes. but they were diverting traffic for safety reasons. no injuries to report of right now. but, again, that smoke was very intense for a bit. and we're checking to see if any firefighters had any issues with smoke inhalation or anything of that nature. right now, the cause is still under investigation. i've been asking the fire chief and the fire marshal whether this could be suspicious in nature since this was an abandoned mill. still haven't heard back. we're continuing to reach out to them and pass along any updates online and on air at right now the polls show donald trump in the lead. but it is an all out brawl for second place between ted cruz and jeb bush and marco rubio and john kasich. ben carson is trailing in the polls but staying in the race for now and hoping for a surprise turn out. and voting ends in south carolina at 7:00 tonight. in nevada, caucuses there end at 10:00 tonight. both races have big implications for super tuesday. we'll have continuing coverage on both of these events tonight at 6 and 10. hillary clinton is already looking ahead to super tuesday. she's opening six offices across massachusetts, including one in boston and one in worcester. volunteers will also out be outgoing door-to-door promoting her message. >> heather: john kasich also looking ahead to super tuesday, he's hosting a town hall in burlington vermont this morning before head to go a town hall auto right here in worcester this afternoon. after worcester, he's got a bisdz see day. he is going to head back down to south carolina for a primary results watch party. just 24 hours after taking on the pope, meantime, donald trump is taking on one of america's biggest companies. the republican presidential hopeful is christian. >> blair: being found not guilty of killing a shrewsbury woman back in 1974. in 2014, lorranz so guthrie was charged with killing her at her home 14 years ago. it was blown open when doctor prosecutors say dna evidence put guthrie at the scene. but guthrie delivered furniture to the home a day before the murder. his attorneys argued that's when his dna was left behind. a murder weapon smoke and flames that are now mostly out of at this mill fire. firefighters battling this since about 3:00 this morning. now show you what it looked like there around 5:00. that mill taken over by these intense flames. firefighters tell us no one here was hurt. and at this hour, they are still looking into how all of this started. >> heather: we are getting our first look into the newly renovated government center. mbta station, here it is, all lit up. the led lights on the new glass tower of the station tested friday morning. if you're wondering why green? they can be set up to display different colors. the government center has been closed for two years of renovations to bring that station up to modern codes. and happening now, as crews put the finishing touches on that new station, green line service has once again been suspended for another weekend between park street and haymarket. they won't be running all day today and tomorrow. the government center stop, though, is set to open march 24th on budget and on time. >> blair: identity thieves going under the radar and over the top to target a man from newton. they can wrapped up more than $16,000 in credit card bills and lengths to pull it off. fox 25 ted daniels reports the thieves made sure the fraud alerts triggered by big ticket purchases never arrived. >> meet the real, peter from newton. not the imposter to who stole his cell phone, home phone and credit. it all began to unravel yesterday when peter called verizon wireless, to item them his cell phone wasn't working. >> i was thinking it was a mistake. i didn't think anything of it. >> reporter: the verizon wireless operator told peter, his number no longer existed on the verizon network. it had been transported to t-mobile of it too, a couple of hours, about you peter was able to get his number back and his cell phone working again. in his backlog of unready mills this one from the credit card company, capital one. >> so they looked at charges that were posted during the time frame that my cell phone was, you know, not available to me. probably over $16,000 in charges. >> reporter: the charges were made in new york city in a three hour time period. somebody had a field day buying big ticket items at an apple store on peter's account. >> i didn't believe him. i thought he was joking sometimes, i can't take them seriously because he likes to say stuff like that. but then i actually saw the seriousness of it. and i was shaking my head. i couldn't believe it. >> reporter: and it gets worse. peter then discovered his landline had also been stolen. >> if a merchant was trying to reach me at home to verify a purchase, i wasn't even getting the phone call at the house. the house phone was being forwarded to another telephone number. so, yeah, i was definitely well played out. >> reporter: peter is not sure why he was targeted or how the thieves knew his private pass codes to change and alter his accounts. since the charges were unauthorized, he's off the hook and won't cost him any money but it is costing him a lot of time. >> now your local forecast from meteorologist jason brewer and the fox 25 storm tracker weather team. >> jason: good morning. we're seeing temperature changes under way already. if you're stepping out. it doesn't feel as cold as it did yesterday. we're in the mid 40s right now. despite clouds, we'll still warm up today. it's all about that wind direction up out of the south, and southwest. it will be breezy at times. but with 50 degree readings coming back. not too bad for the ladder half of february. right now in boston. you see those clouds, temperatures, middle 40s. we even have a few upper 40s sprinkled in down around the vineyard and new bedford there. upper 30s in worcester, keene and orange. those are the coldest readings i have now. a little light rain moving of off of the cape and gloucester near provincetown. that's not going to be around for another 15 minutes or so. here's our warm front. that's why we're warming up today. this disturbance is passing by to our north. taking all of the rain and even light snow in the north and rain away with it. being replaced by milder air out you see those gusty winds, running 20, 25 miles an hour along the coastal area. so still fairly breezy, but, again, with that mild air coming up thanks to those breezes. 24 hour temperature change, pretty significant. 10, 20 degree warmer right now than where we were yesterday at this time. you sue he those high temperatures, coming up above 50 degrees in many spots. concord at 51 and pepperell at 51 as well. we'll have upper 40s for the cape and islands. thanks to that cold water. even though the south wind is coming through, it's got to go over that chilly water. that's where you've got to be a little cooler than the rest. our boston temperature trend. lower 50s out there. from about 1 to 3:00. no excuses. nice day to get outside. and we'll keep it rain and snow free on into the evening. with a few clouds we're turning overnight. ahead of our next cold front. we're going to see temperatures remaining above normal. as you wake up on sunday morning, i do expect plenty of sunshine and readings above freezing. let's go 4:00 sunday, a couple of clouds moving in. a brand new model run coming in just now, showing us rain to the south by late sunday night. appeared most of this is going to pass by to our south. but if this coastal low tracks a little farther northward, we can see at least some light snow trying to break out. an inch or updating breaking story into the newsroom. following a two alarm fire in natick. these pictures show it at the scene. we're talking with the firefighters still not a lot of information about what exactly you can see the damage is significant. a med flight transport was cancelled. firefighters have not said how it started. we'll get an update tonight. >> heather: in fall river, see right now the smoke is clearing and the flames are mostly out at a mill fire we've been following all morning long. with that smoke clearing, you can get a good sense of the damage to that mill there. it's completely totalled. firefighters have been battling this since about 3 this morning. take a look at this. this is what it looked like when our crews got there around 5 this morning. just huge flames out there. this all happening in residential neighborhood that surround the milling. firefighters tell us, no one was injured at this hour. still no word on how the fire started. and we want to show you this as well. when the fire was at its peak, the smoke plume was so big, it was actually visible on weather radar. the plume stretched as far as 25 miles north to pembroke at one point. just a huge area impacted on by the smoke. >> blair: sometimes we see that on the radar. looked like. >> jason: yeah, really impressive. 25 miles away. fortunately, now, we're seeing it fade away. a lot of progress, getting that under control. today it's a warm and breezy day. at least by southern new england's standards. >> blair: it's still february. >> jason: it's still february. 51 that's a good 10,
