The gunman in police stud after a six hour stand off. It has planned parenthood around the country on high alert. Reporter increased security at this planned parenthood is in response to the shooting in colorado. Right here behind me, you can see a Police Officer parked just outside of the building. Planned parenthood of massachusetts telling us they are working with police to make sure Safety Measures are in place. And were also continuing to learn more about officer Garrett Swasey the 44yearold, as we told you, grew up in melrose. And according to the boston globe, he went to Melrose High School. He eventually moved to colorado where he and his wife had two children, a son, 11yearold, and a daughter who was six. Swasey was on campus at the university of colorado in Colorado Springs when that shooting happened. And he immediately responded. And also new this morning, gunman as robert lewis dear. Its a little hard to see, but this is video of Police Taking deer into custody after that standoff. He is 59 years old. Police still this morning trying to figure out what his motive was. This all started yesterday afternoon when police say deer walked into the planned parenthood and started shooting. Three people died, including swasey, the two other victims were civilians. At least is 11 people were shot, including five Police Officers. And this morning, they are in good condition. Were also continuing to learn more about swasey. The mbta did not open expansion to bid, instead it shows the company that was designed and constructed. The light mill project, is four and a half mile extension of green line tracks near cambridge. Police this morning, still trying to figure out exactly what his motive was. But this all started yesterday afternoon when police say deer walked into the planned parenthood and started shooting. Three people died, including swasey. The two other victims are civilians. At least 11 people were shot, including five Police Officers. The 44yearold, as we just told you, grew up in melrose, and according to the boston globe, he went to Melrose High School. We also learned he was a pastor at his local church and faith very much a part of his life. According to the hope chamspell website, he helped teach and also played guitar there. Also on that website, it says that his wife helped out in the nursery. Along with being a Police Officer as well as a pastor, swasey was a nationally ranked figure skater. And he loved all sorts of patriots. Now swasey worked as a Police Officer for the university of colorado in Colorado Springs. And this morning, the school issued a statement saying their Basketball Team will hold a moment of silence before each game today. Also this morning, were learning a little bit more about the suspected gunman who police say shot and killed swasey along with two other people. Police have now identified him as 59yearold robert dear. This is video from just after that six hour standoff, when they took him into custody. But this morning, the question still remains, why did he go into that planned parenthood and what was his motive . In all, police say at least eleven people were shot. Five of those Police Officers. Two men accused of assault with intent to murder after a fight over a girl. 21yearold, brendan stoneham, and 22yearold, Anthony Ferratusco accused of meeting two people with a crowbar in reading. The pair appeared in court on friday. They came to Auto Repair Shop on main street, beat up three people and ran off. The suspects knew of the people in the attack we found out in court. Its our understanding from speaking with one of the victims today and as well as information we obtained from the Police Department, the two individuals, two defendants here today, mr. Donovan and mr. Ferratusco, actually go to school with one of the main victims in this case, theyre familiar with each other and essentially this fight was over a girl. The past three hours, Police Called off a manhunt that kept them going all night. Started around 12 30 this morning. Police arrived at a white street, looking for a man in section to an incident in worcester. Police searched the area and found a loaded rifle magazine and a survival kilt. They followed the suspects trail to whatepond where a boat and helicopter were called in. The search was called off when that rowboat was found on the bank of the pond. Fox 25 is working to get the mans name and to find out why he is wanted. And we want to get back to developing news weve been telling you about. Weve learned this morning, that a massachusetts native is dead after a shootout at a Colorado Springs planned parenthood. And just in the past few minutes. Fox 25 has of just confirmed this man, officer Garrett Swasey grew up in melrose, graduated from Melrose High School in 1989. He believes behind a wife and see was a member of the Colorado Police department. He went to the clinic to help out after learning of the shooting. Two other people were killed in yesterdays violence, the gunman in Police Custody after a nearly six hour standoff. It has planned parenthood across the country in high alert this morning. Stephanie coueignoux is in boston planned parenthood this morning, police spent the night patrolling the area. Reporter in fact, Boston Police just telling me on saturday, typically once the clinic opens at 7 30, they do have an officer parked out here. However, the clinic is closed for the Holiday Weekend. You can see, though, right at the front of the building, a Security Camera right in front of the entrance. And we counted three here. So security always tight. But even more so this morning in response to that shooting yesterday. In fact, you can see a police car parked there outside. The officer told me they started here yesterday. Theyre going to be here today. And they may even be here tomorrow. For public Safety Measures. The were also learning more about officer Garrett Swasey this morning. And, again, weve learned the 44yearold, grew up in memory rose, graduated from the high school there in 1989. He eventually moved to colorado. And thats where he and his wife had two children, a son, now 11 years old, and a daughter who is six. Yesterday see was on campus at university of colorado in Colorado Springs when the that shooting happened and he immediately responded. New this morning, police have now identified the suspect as robert lewis deer. Its hard to see from this video, but that is Police Taking deer into custody. He is 59 years old. And this morning, police still trying to figure out what exactly his motive was. This did all start yesterday afternoon when police say dear walked into the planned parenthood and started shooting. Three people died, including the two other victims are civilians. At least eleven people were shot, including five Police Officers. We can report, though, this morning, they are in good condition. Plus a project expected to cost a billion dollars more than originally planned. What drove up the cost of the mbta green line expansion and what the some believe could reign in those costs. Showing had rain across the use future fox 25 investigates uncovered a never seen before report revealing the mbta knew the cost of the green line expansion could skyrocket. That first warning came more than four years ago. This morning, mbta estimated a billion dollars in overrun cost. Now some say the t backed itself into a financial corner. They ignored the warning. Reporter warnings that the cost to expand the green line could balloon. Fox 25 investigates uncovered reports that shows the warning first came in 2011. One of the is documents that i read that you uncovered was the most amazing of all, was just a straight out warning that the method that theyre using is going to result in only one bidder. Greg sullivan of the Pioneer Institute which has been studying the green line project, says one bidder means no competition, no incentive to control costs. The mbta did not open the expansion project to bid. Instead it cho his a company that would design and construct it. The light rail project is a four and a half mile extension of green line tracks that starts at least near station in cambridge. One extension heads up to Tufts University at college avenue. The second to union square in somerville, one of the most densely populated cities in the area. We were looking forward to the green line extension happening as soon as possible. Kaitlin jewel, coowner of the Somerville Brewing Company says its one reason they picked their location six months ago, proximity to the new union square symptom. It will be tremendously hemful from to our building, if they can reach us from the green line extension. Reporter construction started in january. By august it was in jeopardy. Construction groom, whites, nearly doubled the cost of the next phase of the project. The mbta now estimates the total costs around 3 billion. The freedom of information request, fox 25 investigates obtained previously redacted Risk Assessment report prepared for the federal Transportation Administration in 2011, it raised red flags about the scope of the project. It called the project, quote, fairly complex and said that certain elements were out of the direct control of the contractor as well as the mbta. The final Risk Assessment report issued last fall, notes the lack of competition as potential for additional bit risk. Because theres only one bidder. I served the state inspector general. Let me tell you what one bidder means, no id bidder. Reporter there there any incentives for this company to check. The problem is theres not indent centive reporter which pushed for the green line expansion. The competitive bid project, should reduce the costs to hundreds of millions of dollars. So we contacted the Construction Group to ask about cost overruns they referred all questions to mbta. The mbta declined to answer any questions about the process, citing an ongoing independent review. The mbta fiscal control board is expected to discuss the findings of that review next week. Switching gears, despite the spring like weather, ski resorts around the area are ready for the winter season already. It sure looked like a winter oneker land at jiminy peak in the berkshires check out all of those skids on the ski lifts. That new courtesy of a snow machine of course. However, those snow machines are up and running in Wachusett Mountain and principal son is also open and plans on making more snow they tell us as it gets colder. Two more resorts also opening out this week, in western mass. Ski butter nut in Great Barrington and cata mount in the berkshires also opens a week from today. Meanwhile, as were continuing to learn more about officer swasey. The 44yearold did grow up in melrose, he graduated high school there. And weve also learned he was a pastor at his church and faith very much a part of his life. According to the hope chapel website, swasey helped teach there and he also played guitar there. The also according to the website, his wife helped out in the nursery. And not just that, he was a Police Officer, he was a pastor, but weve also learned see was a nationally ranked figure skater and loved sports. Swasey worked as a Police Officer at the university of colorado in Colorado Springs. And this morning, the school issued a statement, saying their Basketball Teams will hold a moment of silence before each game today. Also, tonight, they are going to be holding a candlelight vigil for swasey and the two other victims on campus. And this morning, were learning more about the gunman who police say shot and killed swasey and the two other people. Theyve now identified him as 59yearold robert deer. And this is video right there after that six hour standoff finished and you can actually see Police Taking deer into custody. This morning, though, the question remains why did he go into planned parenthood, what was his motive, why did he start shooting there. We do know at least eleven people in all were shot, five of those Police Officers. And coming up in 30 minutes, the latest update on how those survivors are doing this morning. Two men accused with assault with intent to murder after a fight over a girl. 21yearold Brendan Donovan and 21yearold Anthony Ferratusco reading. They came to an auto repair on main street that afternoon beat up three people and then ran off. In court we learned the suspects knew the people they attacked. Its our understanding from speaking with one of the victims who is here today as well as other information weve obtained from the Police Department that defendants here today, mr. Donovan and mr. Ferratusco actually go to school with one of the named victims in this theyre familiar with each other. And essentially this fight was over a girl. The judge held the suspects on a 5,000 dollar bail. This morning, Boston Police are investigating a fight that boston nightclub. Involving one of the players on the philadelphia 76ers. Filed. But a man told boston he it was the victim of assault and battery in a fight that involved sixers center, oak cafer. After the nba player reacted to some heck cling about his teams poor play. Oak cafer said the fight after the team lost to celtics is, quote, definitely dumb on my part. And oak cafer was able to play against the rockets last night in houston. Police asking for help in catching a thief who was grabbed two packages and walked out. You can see the bag hes carrying looks pretty full. Officer Garrett Swasey grew up in melrose, graduated from Melrose High School in 1989. He was a Police Officer at the university of colorado. And an officer telling me they are there for Public Safety and be here throughout the day and very likely tomorrow. Meantime this morning, were continuing to learn more about officer Garrett Swasey. As weve been mentioning all morning long, we can now confirm the 44yearold grew up in there. And weve also learned he was a pastor at a church and faith very much a part of his life. And this morning, the school issued a statement saying their Basketball Teams will hold a moment of silence before each game today. Also, tonight, theres going to be a candlelight vigil for swasey and two other victims on campus. And take a look. Within the last 30 minutes, weve received the mug shot of the suspected gunman. Its right there, this is the man police say shot and killed swasey and two other people. Police now identifying him as 59yearold robert deer. And were also going to show you some video from just after that six hour standoff when police took deer into custody. They came to an Auto Repair Shop on main street that afternoon, beat up three people and then ran off. In court we learned the suspects knew the people they attacked. Its our understanding from speaking with one of the victims who the is here today as well as other information weve obtained from the Police Department that the two individuals, the two defendants here today, mr. Donovan and mr. Ferratusco, actually go to school with one of the named victims in this case, theyre familiar with each other. And the fight was over a girl.
