factory because of all the pipe bomb materials they initially found. >> vanessa: it is not just the shooters we're learning more about. tonight, we are getting to know, new information about the victims of that mass shooting. victim shannon johnston was an inspector for the county's health department for the past ten years. he oversaw food, safety and recreational health in san bernardino. johnston lived with his girlfriend. he was 45 years old. robert adams was 40 years old, and a father. he was a health specialist for san bernardino county. his daughter savannah was 20 months old. adams wife jenny was his high school sweetheart. larry kaufman, 42 years old, who loved horror movies. kaufman worked at the inland regional center with clients who had disabilities. the "l.a. times" is reporting that he refused to get his driver's license, so his boyfriend of the last three years could drive him 20 work every day. -- to work every day. >> oh my gosh. >> mark: tense moments in boston boston's seaport district. this is a picture of a man who left the suitcase next to the wheel of car. >> vanessa: no explosive were found inside the suitcase. all of this happened at the u.s. coast guard building on atlantic avenue near federal court. once the bomb squared arrived, the teen was able to execute a controlled detonation. fox 25's stephanie quinu is live for us in boston to show us what kind of trouble that man is now in. stephanie. >> the reporter: and police actually used a robot to detonate that devision, just those bushes, again, we do want to say, that police didn't find any explosive devices inside. but a source did tell us, they found a device that looked like an explosive. in just the last hour, homeland security officers have now left this area, but take a look, this is the man police have now arrested. this is the mug shot of 50-year-old james terrapignoty, just into our newsroom. tonight, people we spoke with said they are still shaken up by what happened. >> we've had some pretty bad terror attacks, the bombings and things like that, but when it literally happens right next to you, it's just, i don't know, it's strange. >> rick says he had just gotten to work here on atlantic avenue when police told him, he had to leave. police evacuated the area, after finding a suitcase next to a homeland security vehicle. a source told fox 25 the suspect now identified as james terrapignoty, took a selfie dropping off the suitcase and then ran away. there more on purpose, and just walked quickly up hyde street. >> a homeland security officer saw terrapignoty left. the bomb squad was called and they detonated the suit case. melissa who took this video from her office window said she couldn't believe what she was seeing. >> pretty scary to know, it happens right by where you work. >> for others, they immediately thought of the terrorist attacks in california and paris, and here in boston. >> we heard it. it was pretty loud. and again, see, that's still unsettling for a lot of people, especially we know the marathon event that happened a couple years ago. >> former superintendent chief of the boston police department says especially in light of these events, police always handle suspicious devices or packages very carefully. and investigate this motive. >> they might have been putting it here to see how law enforcement would responds. what's the procedures the protocol, to see if they can hand events. -- an event. >> and commissioner evans told us especially in light of what happened in the past few weeks, he was in touch with the fifteen, along with the governor and -- f.b.i., along with the governor and the mayor. we want to stress to you, there is no threat to the public. as tore terrapignoty, he's charged with breaking news, involving former patriot, now convicted killer, aaron fox 25 has learned he has been found with a homemade knife or shank in prison. hernandez is serving a life sentence at baranowski correctional center in shirley for the murder of odin lloyd. he was put into a segregation unit and taken out of the general population. he is set to go on trial for a boston double murder in january. >> vanessa: right now, investigators are trying to learn what started this deadly fire that swept through a lynn apartment building. hospital. they forced firefighters back. we are bringing you team coverage tonight at 6:00 p.m. our christine mccarthy spoke to a man who ran inside the burning home and carried a neighbor to safety. but we begin first with katherine burcham with what investigators are still searching for tonight. >> the reporter: investigators from the state fire marshals office spent today talking with witnesses and also reviewing building. tonight, they say, they're looking for video from any witnesses who may have been here right before the fire started, or who watched the residents escape the flames. this family was asleep on the top floor of this lynn apartment building when the squeal of the smoke alarm woke them. >> my mom heard the fire alarm from the second floor, so when she went to open, like, the door, smoke came in. >> the alarms were sounding from the floor below. go down to knock on their door, but it was too late. his own family barely escaped running down the back stairs in thick smoke. >> my dad took everyone back through the back door and got my family out. i'm really glad they're safe. >> flames were shooting through the roof. firefighters were able to pull two people from the second inside. nearly a dozen others escape, and huddled in front of the empty shell today, as cause. >> we'll be taking a close look at the ownership of the building, the condition of the building, whether there was any violations to the building. >> residents tell fox 25 the alarms were working, but fire officials say the fact that nearly 20 people shared two floors here made it difficult to respond and help. >> the number of people here, obviously, makes it difficult, for firefighters to determine the condition and the number of people that resided here. >> now, we went to the landlord's home today in a number of occupants that were living in that apartment building. but no one answered the door. again, tonight, the state fire marshals office is asking anyone with video from the beginning of the fire or who may have been here completely devastated about this huge loss of life, but they're also grateful for those rescuers. >> i thought this is a grammy or something. a nightmare. >> as a lynn neighborhood mourns the tremendous loss of life, word spreads of acts of heroism by firefighters. >> it was the biggest fire i've ever seen and they somehow managed to get in, and rescue two different people and they just got too out of control. >> fire officials too applauded the rescue. >> it was absolutely amazing. i've been a firefighter in lynn for 32 years, it was one of the most spectacular rescues i've seen. >> it wasn't just firefighters who did the rescuing. this resident who spoke to us through a translator, ran inside his burning home and carried a woman to safety. >> he said by the time he got to her and grabbed letter, he was already out of here. >> wilmer perez evacuated his own family, leaving everything he owns behind. >> i just take my daughter, told my mom, my grandma, and be off. >> the reporter: despite their combined efforts, the flames were too overpowering to save everyone. four people on the second floor didn't make it. >> really nice people. nice neighborhood, and i feel sorry for the families. families. >> the reporter: now, neighbors tell me though know who died on the second floor of this multifamily, but as of right releagues the names of those -- releasing its names of into the facebook account of threat. the students and his cousins were going to plants three bombs the school. police were alerted by concerned parents. this was the fifth bomb threat at brockton high in the last eight months. >> mark: search is on tonight for the car involved if a hit-and-run that left an elderly woman fighting for her life in bergan parkway and demount street. the car was a black boxy station wagon that may have been a volvo. officers say the driver stopped to check his car for damage and then took off. the victim suffered life-threatening injuries and has not yet been identified. a 55-year-old man died when police say a car ran over him in his driveway on nantucket. police tell the cape cod times a 24-year-old woman was driving the car when it ran over delbert rogers on field avenue around 7:30 p.m. last night. officers tell fox 25 the man was lying in the driveway when he was run over. no charges are being filed. >> vanessa: no bail for the man accused of stealing 16 guns from the u.s. armory reserve center. it was james morales first court appearance in massachusetts. as fox 25 has been reporting, the former army reservist was caught in new york. the theft happened in mid november and some of the guns stolen remain missing. a dorchester woman has also been arrested in connection with this case. and students in cambridge under tight security again today, in police were patrolling every school in the district, after anonymous email threatened gun violence. it was the third threat against the schools this week. police say they believe two of the morning and out here to hyannis, 45 degrees for you right now, with some clouds. those clouds will go away and you'll be dropping down to 37 under clear skies tonight and final stop, be back here to worcester counties. fitchburg, you're 44 right now with some clouds and you're dropping down to below freezing overnight tonight as well. so it will be a chilly start to the day. no doubt about that, to be expected in december of course. but right now, those temperatures are actually being acted on by the winds and the winds are blowing 9, 10 miles per hour, again, nothing strong. winds, but any kind of a breeze and sometimes there's a gust higher than that, will make you feel colder, so it's feeling like 35 in worcester. 30's already in southern new hampshire and northern worcester county. here in your seven-day forecast. your weekend, always in view, let's get that more closely in view for you. that weekend forecast will be in the 50's both afternoons, keep in mind, you're starting out in the 20's and 30's though, first while. as far as the forecast going forward, i'm going to look at a timeline for a couple storms coming our way tuesday into wednesday. this is the first storm system. far enough offshore, that's a direct hit, but this is something if it wobbles closer to us, we do this with winter storms all the time, it brings the rain in here. if it comes closer to us, the cold air will go farther away. expect rain from this one. another storm system coming at us want to come up the coast and produce rain. we're settling in to what looks like kind of a stormy pattern. the storminess to match up with the cold air in order to produce snow. not of course we want that, but that's what we'll be watching for. i've n update on the -- i have an update on the he says it's high time elected officials take action to stop it. e. >> it's been 21 years since a mass shooting happened when shannon was killed in a clinic. >> liam is frustrated that shootings like the one that took his sister at this brooklyn planned parenthood back in 1994 are still happening. >> shannon's murder was a big deal 21 years ago, in that it was -- it was a mass shooting, and those didn't happen very much then. we've now had two within a week. >> he points to the mass shooting at the planned parenthood in colorado a week ago, and the attack in san bernardino, only days ago. >> at some point, we need to be saying, this new normal is unacceptable. different from our leaders. >> but isn't it our mass shootings the new normal now. >> they are commonplace. >> he now heads up the massachusetts office for victim assistance. he shows us this picture of shannon at christmas, days before she was killed by john salvy and this, a picture of her with her grandfather, who died from heart trouble, only hours after learning of shannon's death. when she died, the world lost a lot of promise. >> she was a history buff, she graduated from boston college, she worked with children around issues of child abuse. >> caller is indicating, she thinks someone is shooting. >> other issues surrounding mass shootings deserve attention, but it's gun control he's most passionate about. loony bought the rifle in new hampshire used to kill his sister. >> we need to have a serious conversation about removing guns other people. >> loony remembers his sister every day an on the at 6:30 p.m. the february is investigate the deadly mass shooting in california as an acts of terrorism, as we reported, syed rizwan tashfeen malik and her husband, syed rizwan farook have been identified as the shooters. tashfeen malik pledge allegiance to isis. the f.b.i. director james comey says they showed signs of radicalization but were not part of a broader network. >> there's a lot of evidence in this case that doesn't quite make sense, and so we're trying to be very thoughtful to understand it, and to make sense of it, so we understand the full stents of what we have here. >> mark: also today, the media was allowed inside the home of the killers by the landlord. he says police gave him the two floor townhome in redlands california appeared much like any other home. but it we are learning more about the victims in this terror attack. an environmental health specialist in san bernardino county was 27, she had three sisters, her family says, she was full of life and loved by all who knew herl. her. the woman fled 20 the united states at the age of 18 to escape persecution of christians following the iranian revolution, she was married to a police officer and had three children ages 10, 12, and 15, she was 46 years old. >> vanessa: the terror attack is top of mind for a lot of people and with the nice weather that's expected this weekend, mayor walsh is reassuring people in boston not to cancel their new has 6:00 p.m., jim morelli is live in the city with the mayor's message. >> the reporter: it's that time of year when communities get together to celebrate the season, and a short time ago, mayor walsh was here in west roxbury to illuminate a wreath at a community center and it is one of several holiday events going on in boston this weekend. events somewhat darkened by what happened in california. we talked with the mayor, as well as the police commissioner, about what is now being investigated as a terror attack. >> >> here in the city, we make sure we near a homeland security vehicle has been arrested. 54-year-old james terrapignoty was arrested in lawrence. >> i can tell you right now that boston police just arrived here in lawrence to pick this man up and take him into custody and return him back to boston. let's take a look right now at that boston police transport vehicle showed up at lawrence p.d. to take 50-year-old james darren terrapignoty into custody, this after i allegedly left a suitcase behind a homeland security s.u.v. in boston. that suitcase caused quite a commotion in the city today. it was blown up after it was taken away by a robot, because they were not sure what was inside of it. now, police picked this man up afternoon at gunpoint. in boston, the police tell us that he's the man who walk up and left that suitcase behind the rear tire of a homeland security vehicle in the city, on atlantic avenue this morning. a robot needed to be called into take the suitcase away. it was detonated in a secure area. boston police were here on scene to take him back to boston, right now i can tell you police inside telling us tonight, what happened when this arrest took place this afternoon. >> that was a little -- i was a little shocked, that you know, someone would do something especially the environment that we've been dealing with lately. that someone would cause this kind of anxiety and distress. >> darren terrapignoty en route to boston with boston police in their custody, being charged with planting a hoax device an will be arraigned in monday at city. fox 25 news. >> vanessa: four people are dead the victims were found early this morning if a second floor unit of the multifamily building. several people made it out. others were rescued. the names of the victims have not been leased. there's no word on a cause. >> mark: a man died after a fishing boat he was on sank off the coast of gloucester. new at 6:00 p.m., our area richie just spoke to the man's daughter and joins us live in east boston now. erika? >> the reporter: well, mark, that daughter is heartbroken, yet, she reached out to us today in her grief, because she has a message about her dad, she just felt compelled to share. so i sat down with her home in east boston a short time ago. here's what she wants you to november. >> i just want to make sure that everybody knows he was my hero. he got the crew members off the boat before he even thought of getting off the boat. that was the type of person my >> a very difficult day for this woman, she just learn of her dad's death around midnight, so the reality hasn't had time to sink in. 46-year-old david suterland died late last night 12 miles who have the -- offthe coast. his daughter said good samaritans aboard a passing vessel tried to tow the boat but the high winds an waving were preventing it. the coast guard was unsuccessful. the boat was taking on too much water too fast. the three man crew had to abandon the vessel. when suterlands was pulled from the water, he was unresponsive and later died. >> they tried to give him cpr for an hour. and it didn't work. so i am so very grateful for everybody who tried to save my father. >> the reporter: now suterlands wearing a survival suit when he wasn't into the water. he is an experienced commercial fisherman earning a living on the sea for nearly two decades, baffled by the events of last night. a medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death. live in east boston tonight, erika richie, fox 25 news. >> vanessa: another man is dead after a fire destroyed part of an apartment home in concord, new hampshire, early this morning. the fire broke out around 3:00 a.m. this morning on rumford street. firefighters say it started on the first floor. they were able to get ten people out of the building, but an elderly man on the first floor did not escape. tonight, the exact cause is still under investigation and the red cross is helping to house the ten people who were displaced. manchester, new hampshire police need your help tonight tracking down this thief. he robbed a cvs on south willow street last night, just before 7:00 p.m. no weapon was shown, about $200 was taken. the suspect covered his face with some sort of white cloth. call manchester p.d. if you know anything about this crime. >> mark: fox 25 storm tracker chief meteorologist kevin bit on the warm side? >> the accused teen killer is delusional and he hears voices in his head. >> vanessa: bob ward is covering the trial and much of the defense case rests with this witness. >> this danvers high school surveillance video of phillip chism is a key piece of evidence in his murder trial, and this $300 an hour new york psychiatrist is a key witness in chism's defense. in the video, phillip chism is seen following victim colleen ritzer into a girl's bathroom, where she was first attacked and then later, we see chism retrieve a recycling barrel that chism used to move right colleen ritzer into the woods where she birdie. in much of the video, church is wearing a change of clothes. dr. dudley testified the video reveals chism's disorganized thinking, a sign of psychosis. being photographed by all of these cameras, which i thought was a very unusual response to what it just happened. >> dr. dudley also testified that chism hears voices in his head, that he reacts to them, and that chism is also delusional, thinking that he is a ninja, but prosecutors allege the murder of colleen ritzer was sexually motivated. and dr. dudley clung to his diagnosis as prosecutor kate mcdougal tried to remind him about chism's movements at danvers high school on the day of the murder. >> when he brought a box cutter to school that morning, he was experiencing psychosis. >> yes he did. >> when he
