this case has. >> the reporter: it was last thursday, a 14-year-old girl was walking to the school bus stop on puritan and cranberry road in bourne. she told police, she was attacked from behind, a witness called out the victim's name, and allen and took off in his car. >> several different descriptions of the vehicle in question, many of which are -- i would suggest, all of which are different. >> the reporter: glen says the witness couldn't even give police an accurate description of the suspect. >> this is a case where identity is clearly at issue here. >> the reporter: glen tells fox 25, his client is a captain of the football team, works at an auto body shop and has a girlfriend for the last year. >> be respectful of my privacy and my son's privacy. >> the reporter: and we mentioned that allen is being held without bail, pending a dangerousness hearing. coming up on tuesday. in the meantime, i want to mention, i spoke to the victim and her mother and they tell me they have no idea who allen is. now, coming up at 6:00 p.m., you will hear more from the defense attorney, he says police absolutely have the wrong guy. for now, we are live in bourne, malini basu, fox 25 news. >> elizabeth: we are following developing news out of boston, where police are investigating a stabbing on tremont street near northeastern university. police tell us one person was stabbed late this afternoon and taken to the hospital. no word on that person's condition tonight, or any arrests. we're working now to get more information for you in the next hour. >> mark: we are following breaking news from gillette stadium. tight end rob gronkowski is going to miss sunday's night in san francisco. gronk was listed as out on the injury report today. he suffered a punctured lung night game against seattle. he has missed the last three days of practice and multiple reports say he was not on the team's flight to california. gronk also missed the team's first two games of the season with a different injury. >> vanessa: let's turn tots weather now on this friday. a warm fall day in boston, but don't get too used to it. some big changes are coming on the way. fox 25 storm tracker chief meteorologist kevin lemanowicz here now, and kevin, it's dark out there tonight already, but we're going to see some rain this weekend, right. still clear. what a beautiful shot sent in to us today on twitter. we have changes to talk about. temperatures right now, still 60 in boston. that's not so bad, despite how dark it is, but tomorrow, the mild temperatures starting to go away. first place they'll leave is cape cod, because of this storm out in the ocean, wobbling back toward us, pushing some clouds on to the south shore. those will take over the area during the course of the day tomorrow, still not expecting precipitation, but this will bring some. this is rainshowers, thunderstorm activity along a cold front and this cold front means business. behind it, it is cold front enough that there are blizzard conditions here in minnesota, and in to wisconsin, and northward into canada and that snow activity is going to be in new york by the end of the weekend, and for some of you, in new england. look at the changes on our way, temperatures ahead of this front, in the 70's in indianapolis. behind it, it's in the 30's back there through minneapolis and other towns back to the wells. we'll be talking about when this weekend, in just a few minutes. >> vanessa: a 911 call from an international location caused panic and fear on boston's university campus today. it turned out to be a hoax. the caller told police, he shot a hostage and was armed with guns and explosives inside the school's library. fox 25's jason law spoke to some rattled students and also asked police about what they're doing to catch the caller who caused so much panic. >> the reporter: police say the had no choice but to take it seriously. it took the bomb squad a little more than an hour to clear all six floors of the library, and now the boston police department is trying to track down whoever pulled this stunt. like many students, asher thought police were just conducting another drill. >> i thought it was somebody practicing and i thought to myself while i was getting into the other building, wait, if it's a drill, why do i keep hearing more and morsi republicans and why is he carrying such a big gun. >> >> the reporter: it wasn't a drill. it was the result called the b.u. police department around 8:30 a.m., told them he had shot somebody inside the library, and that he was armed with guns and explosives inside room 420. >> he mentioned the room was booby trapped, a short time later, there was another call that he had just shot a hostage inside that room. >> the reporter: room 420 doesn't exist. we checked, and this is what the fourth floor looks like. no rooms, and lots of books. commissioner bill evans says the caller stayed on the line and his number was blocked. now, investigators are trying to trace the call. >> we're working on that, and right now, we have in boston regional intelligence working on it, but as you know, over the last year or two, we've had a lot of robo calls, but this one was so genuine. >> the reporter: rate friday afternoon, the university released a statement and said they believe the call came from outside the united states. investigators say the caller never discussed politics or any political motivations. jason law, fox 25 news. students sick at a lynyrd skynyrd in manchester, new hampshire. sky fox was over west high school. students were moved on to the football field, around 30 students reported feeling nauseous and experiencing headaches. the school learned it was -- it stemmed rather, from a chemical odor from construction in the gym. several students were treated at the scene. >> vanessa: shocking video this afternoon from chelsea, where a driver struck a 72-year-old pedestrian, then took off. this hit-and-run was captured on surveillance video. at the bottom of the screen clip the woman, she then falls to the ground. this happened at the intersection of 4th and broadway. cameras also captured the suspect's car, this white mini van, the woman hit, minor injuries tonight. we have a live report on police who are searching for that driver. we'll have that report for you coming up in the next hour. >> mark: a police chase in pembroke ended with this crash in the woods along route 3. police say they tried to stop a brockton man for a license plate issue when he took off. the driver ran a red light, hit two cars, police eventually caught up >> vanessa: a man from norton is facing charges tonight after a late-night police standoff at his home. s.w.a.t. teams surrounded the home on john scott boulevard after a domestic incident got out of hand. police say a woman and child were able to get away before that suspect fired several rounds of ammunition and hit a police cruiser. police eventually took 42-year-old mullet into custody. he's charged with domestic assault, reckless endangerments of a minor and assault with developing news now, in the lawsuit against president-elect donald trump, concerning trump university. in just the last hour, the new york attorney general announced a $25 million settlement in this case. of the deal will resolve two claims -- two class action lawsuits, rather, in california and a civil suit filed in new york over the now defunct university. the deal does not require trump to acknowledge wrongdoing. >> mark: troops are rallying elizabeth hopkins is here to explain. >> the reporter: the president-elect has chosen a harvard law school glad to lead the c.i.a. and and army general from rhode island as his national security adviser, but it's his attorney general choice that's causing controversy. alabama senator jeff sessions is the nominee. sessions is a fierce opponent of amnesty for illegal immigrants and the legalization of marijuana. 30 years ago, the senate rejected his nomination to become a federal judge because of racist comments he made while several democrats have already criticized the nomination views on laws legalizing marijuana eulls. our washington bureau has been digging through alabama senator jeff sessions past testimony about drug use. you're about to hear him talk about medical voters just approved recreational use of marijuana on election day. >> mark: we are continuing to follow a developing situation in georgia, where a deputy u.s. marshal has been shot and killed while trying to serve an arrest warrant. this happened in savannah, georgia, according to the fifteen, deputy marshal patrick carruthers was shot later killed by officers, who returned fire. they have not yet released the suspect's name. back here at home, route 139 in stoughton was closed for several hours today while crews worked to clear this tractor-trailer. sky fox found the truck on its side around 11:00 a.m. this morning on route 24. traffic coming in to stoughton was detoured while a tow truck came into pull the truck out. the calls of the crash is under investigation. one lane of 139 was reopened around 1:00 p.m. this afternoon. >> vanessa: schools in two more local communities are taking were discovered in their water. water tests in attleboro and north attleboro levels exceeded government lead levels. attleboro is replacing fixtures that failed tests. north attleboro flushing, taking out service or allowing hand washing only at problematic taps. while waiting for results of moments. >> the reporter: this a day many families have been working toward, they've been taking care of someone in foster care program, but what seemed like a formality today was so much more. for the people here in the center of boston's downtown courthouse, it's a day they've been waiting a lifetime for. >> today is one of our faith days of the entire year. >> the reporter: especially being adopted like the 3-year-old, nyla, her father, patrice, could not have a bigger smile. i'm here to adopt my little girl. >> the reporter: for me and his wife, it's their third child. and with a blessing of this judge, it became official. after nyla came to them through the foster care program several months ago. >> the biggest thing about it, changed us as much as we changed her. >> the reporter: similar emotional scenes unfolded in courtrooms all across massachusetts today. part of national adoption day. it is the 14th year to have this day focused on these families, and the need couldn't be greater, says bridget, with the massachusetts adoption resource exchange. >> we have over 41 year in boston today, but there remains over 600 across the common wealth, as children and teens who are still waiting for permanent adoptive families. >> the reporter: a new chance for the kids and a new chapter >> she has a rough beginning, but we try to help her raise that, we're here now, and she's home. >> the reporter: it was such an event being out there, you know, and you guys know, i adopted both of our boys, 3 and 4 now, but i was telling you during the break, this took me back to it, you know, you kind of move on when you kids that are 3 and 4, it can be quite a circus every day, but it's a long process for the families. it's an emotional process and adoption advocates certainly light on needs and demands of those seeking adoption, because there's so many kids out there. >> vanessa: you remember through your process it took a long time. >> the reporter: it can take months, even years. >> mark: my sister, one of my best friends have adopted two adopted children into their family and it's fantastic to see and they're now high school graduates, college graduates, it's impressive and how their lives have changed but brought so much into all of our lives. >> vanessa: you have to go to out his two adorable boys. that's precious. congratulations to you, blair. there in the boston area. this is great for your dinner plans. in the 50's, near 60. it is 40's back here in northwest worcester county, but otherwise in the 50's, and we're mostly clear. there are some clouds that have made their way offshore, they were hanging around all day on because this storm just keeps wobbling out here and it's going to wobble back toward us and bring the clouds even farther to west during the day tomorrow. that's one part of the forecast we're going to have to look at. another part, at the wigger part is this, -- bigger part is this, a storm coming through the middle of the country has rainshowers and storm showers ahead of it and behind it, much colder air. look what's happening along the front. temperatures in 70's in indiana today and now, severe thunderstorm warnings, all these boxes you see in yellow underneath the radar, liv showing where the severe weather is going. some storms going this way, others toward indianapolis, and more just going south of indianapolis, downtown area. so that metro area, basically, under severe thunderstorm warning. and then to the northwest, there's this. northwest of duluth, minnesota, had as many as 19 inches of snow from this storm, so this storm means business. the warm air ahead it, mild air tomorrow. if we didn't have that storm into this warm air, but it's too much to battle that onshore flow and the backing in of the clouds. behind that front though, look how much colder it is. now, we're not going to be quite this cold either. but there will certainly be 40's in southern new england, and out there in vermont, new hampshire, berkshires, maybe some temperatures that stay in the 30's all day long, sunday afternoon and monday. first those clouds come though. here they are, backing in toward us tonight, so that by 11:00 p.m. when i'm talking to you, the clouds will already be coming on shore. then they back up to through about 6:00 a.m. in morning. you see that i-95 corridor right there. nice dividing line for us. these clouds continue to back up toward boston, through lunchtime, and back toward 495, by dinnertime. so decreasing sunshine, increasing clouds during the day tomorrow. that's going to play a difference with our temperatures. in the boston area, for instance, we'll be into the low 50's, boston to quincy. mid 50's back through newton, 56 degrees, but look at the came, staying in the low and mid 50's at best here, with the clouds starting the day right for 60-degree readings, northwest of boston and into the merrimack valley. sunday is when everything changes. that's when this front comes on through, with these rainshowers, starting at 6:00 a.m. in the morning through worcester, boston, and northward. than it stays predominantly dry in eastern massachusetts any way, and in to southern new hampshire too, except for southwest new hampshire, the worcester hills. winds, gusting winds blowing in here, lifting up on to the hills, and squeezing out any moisture, going to produce snow showers, some light snow even it's going to be snowing in the berkshires and in to the green mountains as well. here's your seven-day forecast, showing the stark change, saturday into sunday. in fact, 58 on saturday, and only 40 section on sunday, and we'll continue that into monday, we need to take a close are look at the thanksgiving storm heading our way. >> vanessa: with thanksgiving less than a week away, the city of boston getting into the holiday spirit. the city's official christmas tree arrived on boston common this morning. you can see santa was there to it's been making its way to massachusetts from nova scotia since tuesday. every year, the province sends a tree to boston, as a thank you for boston's help during the 1917 halifax resided over jerry sandusky's case is removing himself to the appeal. the lawyers raised objections to the judge's role. in the night before sandusky he says waiving that hearing was a critical mistake. sandusky was convicted on 45 counts of child sexual abuse. new at 5:00 p.m., a former aide of new jersey governor chris christie has been dropped from a lawsuit over the bridge gate scandal. michael druniak is facing a closed. two other former chris christie aides were convicted earlier this month in a federal trial. >> vanessa: employees at one of the busiest airports in the country are threatening to strike during thanksgiving. hundreds of workers at o'hare international airport in chicago are expected to walk off the job in the middle of a heated debate over wages. a spokesperson for the 500 employees confirmed the strike was happening, but didn't specify which day. the workers are seeking a $15 an hour wage. >> mark: president obama today left germa as president of the united states. as he continues to post election international tour. the president touched down a few hours ago in peru, where he is expected to meet with country leadership to talk to them about donald care was doing a lot of its investigating over the phone and eric, you're finding many more complaints reported to eec, where an investigator is never even assigned. >> the reporter: in some parts of the state, we're talking about less than one in ten complaints to early education and care actually getting assigned to an now this is an agency that oversees more than 9,000 school and day care programs, and it's already under pressure to make some changes. a day care in hingham, the latest to face allegations of abusing children, some less than a year opened. >> they said that she was rocked aggressively, to be put to sleep. >> the reporter: while dcf looks into the specific allegations of abuse, another state agency, early education and care, is responsible for investigating the day care's operations. looked at investigation reports of other school programs in the last two years, they revealed eec investigators doing much of their work via phone, rather than visiting in person. >> right now, is the sendoff to keep kids safe. >> the reporter: stat commissioner tom weber says has five investigators to oversee 9,000 programs. new numbers uncovered by fox 25 investigates paint an even more troubling picture. complaints, received by eec since jim, just 33 were ever assigned to an investigator. the ratio even worse, less than 10% of cases assigned to investigators in worcester and taunton, over the last five months. after this hearing on beacon hill last week, state rep paul tucker told us, more needs to be done. >> there's no substitute for actually being there and seeing it and giving people the opportunity one-on-one to be able to speak with an investigator. camera about the new numbers we uncovered, but the agency says each incident can result in multiple mostly is this storm system. it's the one that's going to bring huge changes this weekend, it's going to bring rainshowers, but also some snow to new england, some places will be happy to see that, especially before thanksgiving, where you new england. highly show you the big temperature change on the way this weekend and where the snow is most likely to fall. als the front comes across in the athletic field at north quincy high school will be dedicated with a new name. creedon field is being named for the creedon family, who have deep ties to the quincy community, but one member of the family resigned from his job amid scandal. former school superintendent lawrence creedon was accused of inappropriately touching students back in 1984. the mayor is backing the decision by the parks department, saying the stain of one person's reputation should not tarnish that of the whole family. >> vanessa: a steenor at strict cellphone policy, requiring students to keep their phones off, and out of site. some students say they listen to music to help them study during the day. others use their phone to take pictures of their homework and classes that didn't have enough textbooks for were hit by gunfire yesterday. according to neighbors, the 21-year-old woman who was killed is the mother of the 2-year-old child celebrating a birthday. neighbors believe the shooting was gang related. no arrests have been made. >> vanessa: amazing video of a fire at a pallet yard west of los angeles this morning. this fire quickly burned about two acres before it was contained. firefighters reported multiple explosions from propane within the compound. the pallet yard operator belies arsonist, but investigators have not pinpointed a cause. >> mark: samsung phone is it blamed for a fire in a classroom in missouri. fox 25 has been covering the issues with the samsung phones for months now. tech hardware experts say, the lithium ion batteries are just part of the problem. more you switch to geico. it's what you do. >> mark: tonight, fox 25 investigates uncovers a plan by state lawmakers to reform the bail system. critics say it punishes the poor and costs taxpayers millions. >> vanessa: blair miller joins us now to talk about what types of changes they're looking for. blair. >> the reporter: the sole purpose of bail is to make sure someone arrested for a crime shows up to court, but some defendants end up waiting in jail for months. simply because she can't afford a few hundred according to department of corrections, half of the county jail population here in massachusetts is awaiting trail, meaning they have yet to be convicted, and while they're in there, taxpayers are footing the bill. a senate bill would give the courts risk assessment tools to better evaluate defendants and create pretrial services for low risk offenders outside of jail. under the supervision of the probation department. >> if you're a taxpayer in massachusetts, you are spending $100 million that you don't need >> blair: now, representative who supports this bill, believes this will drop the jail population by about 25%. according to a study though by the council of state governments, the average incarceration for pretrial defendants is almost two months and that's costing taxpayers more than $100 a day per inmate. >> vanessa: this could save a lot of money. what do you have coming up for us at 10:00 p.m. >> blair: keep in mind, there's a whole other side to this repeat offenders are constantly let go. one case led to an examination of the court system on this very issue, an one of the recommendations to come out of that investigation considering the use of risk assessment tools, so we'll get into that tonight at 10:00 p.m. as well. >> vanessa: blair, thank you. new at 5:30 p.m., attorney general loretta lynch is calling the f.b.i.'s annual crimes report sobering. the jurors report for 2015 shows the lgbtq community. there were more than 400 hate creams reported in massachusetts last year. 13 incidents were reported in new,c[f hampshire. attacks against muslims have also increased 67%. one advocate warns, next year's report will be even worse. >> i don't think we've ever seen this level of fear and apprehension, particularly, in the american muslim community, even after 9-11. >> vanessa: advocates are also trump, saying he incited attacks during his campaign. during an interview with 60 minutes last weekend, trump told people to "stop it." >> mark: local hockey player paralyzed during the winter classic has been recognized for her strength and courage. the christopher and dana reeve foundation awarded lang with the dana reeve award. she severely injured her spinal cord nearly a year ago. lang has limited arm movement and no feeling in vanessa: a little snow? >> kevin: you probably want to stick with what we had today. look at this picture from today and you're going to wish we had this forecast all weekend long. that's pretty. >> kevin: that's a sunset and you may not see much of a sunset by tomorrow at this time. the clouds will be rolling back in here. let's talk about what we had going on. we had the clouds that just pushed off of cape cod and the islands, all attached to this storm out here. that storm has been trying -- been playing havoc with us all week long. throwing the clouds right back toward us and it brings it storm backwards toward us over the next 24 hours. this storm's center won't ever make landfall here, no big winds the nuisance clouds that keep coming back toward us. we have this storm system, which continues to track off toward the northeast as expected. however, it's still going to drag this cold front through our area, and that cold front really means business. ahead of it, we're getting severe weather, you receive the yellow boxes in indiana, those are severe thunderstorm warnings and this cold front is actually draped right in here where you can find that precipitation. behind it, the cold air comes pouring in and you have snow to contend with. now, there's another way to find this front, that is to right in here, between oh, let's push it back up this way, chicago and indianapolis, there is a front that splits in here. 50's to the west of it. 70's out ahead of it. 70's in november, and that's why you're getting the severe weather in this part of the country. here are the temperatures back hole. it's not so bad out there, 60 degrees in boston right now. a couple of degrees warmer for a high temperature today. we'll take that. off to the west, 57. 40's off to the north and west and clear out there for now. through the overnight and first thing in the morning, 6:30 a.m., taking over cape cod, push them back beyond i-95. by lunchtime, getting into the boston area, it will be cloudy, that's why you're not great west coast to see much of a sunset, no sunset in boston. it will still go down, i promise, just not going to see t it's too cloudy. clouds go back to 495 by dinnertime. high temperatures tomorrow, low to mid 50's at best on cape cod, clouds are there from the beginning, with some sun in the mid 50's on the south 60-degree reading or two, in the merrimack valley, because that's where you'll receive the most sun tomorrow after the clouds roll in. tomorrow, in plymouth, it's the annual thanksgiving parade. it's happening at 11:00 a.m. this is the forecast throughout the day, starting at 9:00 a.m., it will be cloudy already and stay cloudy throughout the day and in the low 50's, cooling off to the 40's during evening. that's just a start of the changes this weekend. look at the showers coming through sunday morning, that's the front we talked about off to the west an behind the front, that's snow following in the berkshires, northward into the green mountains and the worcester hills as well. you see it here in the seven-day forecast. incredible difference between saturday, mild temperatures and increasing clouds and sunday, with the showers and even some snowflakes that start to work on in here. by monday, still some flurries around. if you're worried about accumulating snow, you have to really look off to the north and west for that, but there will certainly be some in the ski areas, the berkshires as well, when you get out of these colors, there's nothing accumulating, but you can still see we're tacking about the sunday receive, where police are trying to track down the driver. john? >> the reporter: they're looking for him tonight. the crosswalk we're talking about is right across the street behind me. that's where the 72-year-old woman was hit when a minivan sideswiped her, knocking her to the pavement, all of it caught on a surveillance camera above. chelsea's police chief posted this video on his twitter account, check it out. woman appears in the bottom left corner of that video, walking through the crosswalk. suddenly, she is hit and spun around by a white minivan. the vehicle does not stop, but just keeps on going. the woman, who is 72, was left lying on the street, on her back. somehow, she managed to roll over and sit up as someone rushes to help her. police say the woman had a laceration on her forehead. she was rushed to mass general with what police describe as non-life-threatening injuries.

this case has. >> the reporter: it was last thursday, a 14-year-old girl was walking to the school bus stop on puritan and cranberry road in bourne. she told police, she was attacked from behind, a witness called out the victim's name, and allen and took off in his car. >> several different descriptions of the vehicle in question, many of which are -- i would suggest, all of which are different. >> the reporter: glen says the witness couldn't even give police an accurate description of the suspect. >> this is a case where identity is clearly at issue here. >> the reporter: glen tells fox 25, his client is a captain of the football team, works at an auto body shop and has a girlfriend for the last year. >> be respectful of my privacy and my son's privacy. >> the reporter: and we mentioned that allen is being held without bail, pending a dangerousness hearing. coming up on tuesday. in the meantime, i want to mention, i spoke to the victim and her mother and they tell me they have no elizabeth: we are following developing news out of boston, where police are investigating a stabbing on tremont street near northeastern university. police tell us one person was stabbed late this afternoon and taken to the hospital. no word on that person's condition tonight, or any arrests. we're working now to get more information for you in the next hour. >> mark: we are following breaking news from gillette stadium. tight end rob gronkowski is going to miss sunday's night in san francisco. gronk was listed as out on the injury report today. he suffered a punctured lung night game against seattle. he has missed the last three days of practice and multiple reports say he was not on the team's flight to california. gronk also missed the team's first two games of the season with a different injury. >> vanessa: let's turn tots weather now on this friday. a warm fall day in boston, but don't get too used to it. some big changes are coming on the way. fox 25 storm tracker chief meteorologist kevin lemanowicz here now, and kevin, it's dark out there tonight already, but we're going to see some rain this weekend, right. still clear. what a beautiful shot sent in to us today on twitter. we have changes to talk about. temperatures right now, still 60 in boston. that's not so bad, despite how dark it is, but tomorrow, the mild temperatures starting to go away. first place they'll leave is cape cod, because of this storm out in the ocean, wobbling back toward us, pushing some clouds on to the south shore. those will take over the area during the course of the day tomorrow, still not expecting precipitation, but this will bring some. this is rainshowers, thunderstorm activity along a cold front and this cold front means business. behind it, it is cold front enough that there are blizzard conditions here in minnesota, and in to wisconsin, and northward into canada and that snow activity is going to be in new york by the end of the weekend, and for some of you, in new england. look at the changes on our way, temperatures ahead of this front, in the 70's in indianapolis. behind it, it's in the 30's back there through minneapolis and other towns back to the wells. we'll be talking about when this weekend, in just a few minutes. >> vanessa: a 911 call from an international location caused panic and fear on boston's university campus today. it turned out to be a hoax. the caller told police, he shot a hostage and was armed with guns and explosives inside the school's library. fox 25's jason law spoke to some rattled students and also asked police about what they're doing to catch the caller who caused so much panic. >> the reporter: police say the had no choice but to take it seriously. it took the bomb squad a little more than an hour to clear all six floors of the library, and now the boston police department is trying to track down whoever pulled this stunt. like many students, asher thought police were just conducting another drill. >> i thought it was somebody practicing and i thought to myself while i was getting into the other building, wait, if it's a drill, why do i keep hearing more and morsi republicans and why is he carrying such a big gun. >> >> the reporter: it wasn't a drill. it was the result called the b.u. police department around 8:30 a.m., told them he had shot somebody inside the library, and that he was armed with guns and explosives inside room 420. >> he mentioned the room was booby trapped, a short time later, there was another call that he had just shot a hostage inside that room. >> the reporter: room 420 doesn't exist. we checked, and this is what the fourth floor looks like. no rooms, and lots of books. commissioner bill evans says the caller stayed on the line and his number was blocked. now, investigators are trying to trace the call. >> we're working on that, and right now, we have in boston regional intelligence working on it, but as you know, over the last year or two, we've had a lot of robo calls, but this one was so genuine. >> the reporter: rate friday afternoon, the university released a statement and said they believe the call came from outside the united states. investigators say the caller never discussed politics or any political motivations. jason law, fox 25 news. students sick at a lynyrd skynyrd in manchester, new hampshire. sky fox was over west high school. students were moved on to the football field, around 30 students reported feeling nauseous and experiencing headaches. the school learned it was -- it stemmed rather, from a chemical odor from construction in the gym. several students were treated at the scene. >> vanessa: shocking video this afternoon from chelsea, where a driver struck a 72-year-old pedestrian, then took off. this hit-and-run was captured on surveillance video. at the bottom of the screen clip the woman, she then falls to the ground. this happened at the intersection of 4th and broadway. cameras also captured the suspect's car, this white mini van, the woman hit, minor injuries tonight. we have a live report on police who are searching for that driver. we'll have that report for you coming up in the next hour. >> mark: a police chase in pembroke ended with this crash in the woods along route 3. police say they tried to stop a brockton man for a license plate issue when he took off. the driver ran a red light, hit two cars, police eventually caught up >> vanessa: a man from norton is facing charges tonight after a late-night police standoff at his home. s.w.a.t. teams surrounded the home on john scott boulevard after a domestic incident got out of hand. police say a woman and child were able to get away before that suspect fired several rounds of ammunition and hit a police cruiser. police eventually took 42-year-old mullet into custody. he's charged with domestic assault, reckless endangerments of a minor and assault with developing news now, in the lawsuit against president-elect donald trump, concerning trump university. in just the last hour, the new york attorney general announced a $25 million settlement in this case. of the deal will resolve two claims -- two class action lawsuits, rather, in california and a civil suit filed in new york over the now defunct university. the deal does not require trump to acknowledge wrongdoing. >> mark: troops are rallying elizabeth hopkins is here to explain. >> the reporter: the president-elect has chosen a harvard law school glad to lead the c.i.a. and and army general from rhode island as his national security adviser, but it's his attorney general choice that's causing controversy. alabama senator jeff sessions is the nominee. sessions is a fierce opponent of amnesty for illegal immigrants and the legalization of marijuana. 30 years ago, the senate rejected his nomination to become a federal judge because of racist comments he made while several democrats have already criticized the nomination the president-elect massachusetts governor mitt romney. despite being very critical of trump during the campaign, romney is reportedly on the short list to become secretary of state. coming up at 6:00 views on laws legalizing marijuana eulls. our washington bureau has been digging through alabama senator jeff sessions past testimony about drug use. you're about to hear him talk about medical voters just approved recreational use of marijuana on election day. >> mark: we are continuing to follow a developing situation in georgia, where a deputy u.s. marshal has been shot and killed while trying to serve an arrest warrant. this happened in savannah, georgia, according to the fifteen, deputy marshal patrick carruthers was shot later killed by officers, who returned fire. they have not yet released the suspect's name. back here at home, route 139 in stoughton was closed for several hours today while crews worked to clear this tractor-trailer. sky fox found the truck on its side around 11:00 a.m. this morning on route 24. traffic coming in to stoughton was detoured while a tow truck came into pull the truck out. the calls of the crash is under investigation. one lane of 139 was reopened around 1:00 p.m. this afternoon. >> vanessa: schools in two more local communities are taking were discovered in their water. water tests in attleboro and north attleboro levels exceeded government lead levels. attleboro is replacing fixtures that failed tests. north attleboro flushing, taking out service or allowing hand washing only at problematic taps. while waiting for results of reporter: similar emotional scenes unfolded in courtrooms all across massachusetts today. part of national adoption day. it is the 14th year to have this day focused on these families, and the need couldn't be greater, says bridget, with the massachusetts adoption resource exchange. >> we have over 41 year in boston today, but there remains over 600 across the common wealth, as children and teens who are still waiting for permanent adoptive families. >> the reporter: a new chance for the kids and a new chapter >> she has a rough beginning, but we try to help her raise that, we're here now, and she's home. >> the reporter: it was such an event being out there, you know, and you guys know, i adopted both of our boys, 3 and 4 now, but i was telling you during the break, this took me back to it, you know, you kind of move on when you kids that are 3 and 4, it can be quite a circus every day, but it's a long process for the families. it's an emotional process and adoption advocates certainly light on needs and demands of those seeking adoption, because there's so many kids out there. >> vanessa: you remember through your process it took a long time. >> the reporter: it can take months, even years. >> mark: my sister, one of my best friends have adopted two adopted children into their family and it's fantastic to see and they're now high school graduates, college graduates, it's impressive and how their lives have changed but brought so much into all of our lives. >> vanessa: you have to go to out his two adorable boys. that's precious. congratulations to you, blair. there in the boston area. this is great for your dinner plans. in the 50's, near 60. it is 40's back here in northwest worcester county, but otherwise in the 50's, and we're mostly clear. there are some clouds that have made their way offshore, they were hanging around all day on because this storm just keeps wobbling out here and it's going to wobble back toward us and bring the clouds even farther to west during the day tomorrow. that's one part of the forecast we're going to have to look at. another part, at the wigger part is this, -- bigger part is this, a storm coming through the middle of the country has rainshowers and storm showers ahead of it and behind it, much colder air. look what's happening along the front. temperatures in 70's in indiana today and now, severe thunderstorm warnings, all these boxes you see in yellow underneath the radar, liv showing where the severe weather is going. some storms going this way, others toward indianapolis, and more just going south of indianapolis, downtown area. so that metro area, basically, under severe thunderstorm warning. and then to the northwest, there's this. northwest of duluth, minnesota, had as many as 19 inches of snow from this storm, so this storm means business. the warm air ahead it, mild air tomorrow. if we didn't have that storm into this warm air, but it's too much to battle that onshore flow and the backing in of the clouds. behind that front though, look how much colder it is. now, we're not going to be quite this cold either. but there will certainly be 40's in southern new england, and out there in vermont, new hampshire, berkshires, maybe some temperatures that stay in the 30's all day long, sunday afternoon and monday. first those clouds come though. here they are, backing in toward us tonight, so that by 11:00 p.m. when i'm talking to you, the clouds will already be coming on shore. then they back up to through about 6:00 a.m. in morning. you see that i-95 corridor right care was doing a lot of its investigating over the phone and eric, you're finding many more complaints reported to eec, where an investigator is never even assigned. >> the reporter: in some parts of the state, we're talking about less than one in ten complaints to early education and care actually getting assigned to an now this is an agency that oversees more than 9,000 school and day care programs, and it's already under pressure to make some changes. a day care in hingham, the latest to face allegations of abusing children, some less than a year opened. >> they said that she was rocked aggressively, to be put to sleep. >> the reporter: while dcf looks into the specific allegations of abuse, another state agency, early education and care, is responsible for investigating the day care's operations. looked at investigation reports of other school programs in the last two years, they revealed eec investigators doing much of their work via phone, rather than visiting in person. >> right now, is the sendoff to keep kids safe. >> the reporter: stat commissioner tom weber says has five investigators to oversee 9,000 programs. new numbers uncovered by fox 25 investigates paint an even more troubling picture. complaints, received by eec since jim, just 33 were ever assigned to an investigator. the ratio even worse, less than 10% of cases assigned to investigators in worcester and taunton, over the last five months. after this hearing on beacon hill last week, state rep paul tucker told us, more needs to be done. >> there's no substitute for actually being there and seeing it and giving people the opportunity one-on-one to be able to speak with an investigator. camera about the new numbers we uncovered, but the agency says each incident can result in multiple department, saying the stain of one person's reputation should not tarnish that of the whole family. >> vanessa: a steenor at strict cellphone policy, requiring students to keep their phones off, and were hit by gunfire yesterday. according to neighbors, the 21-year-old woman who was killed is the mother of the 2-year-old child celebrating a birthday. neighbors believe the shooting was gang related. no arrests have been made. >> vanessa: amazing video of a fire at a pallet yard west of los angeles this morning. this fire quickly burned about two acres before it was contained. firefighters reported multiple explosions from propane within the compound. the pallet yard operator belies arsonist, but investigators have not pinpointed a cause. >> mark: samsung phone is it blamed for a fire in a classroom in missouri. fox 25 has been covering the issues with the samsung phones for months now. tech hardware experts say, the lithium ion batteries are just part of the problem. more you switch to geico. it's what you do. >> mark: tonight, fox 25 investigates uncovers a plan by state lawmakers to reform the bail system. critics say it punishes the poor and costs taxpayers millions. >> vanessa: blair miller joins us now to talk about what types of changes they're looking for. blair. >> the reporter: the sole purpose of bail is to make sure someone arrested for a crime shows up to court, but some defendants end up waiting in jail for months. simply because she can't afford a few hundred according to department of corrections, half of the county jail population here in massachusetts is awaiting trail, meaning they have yet to be convicted, and while they're in there, taxpayers are footing the bill. a senate bill would give the courts risk assessment tools to better evaluate defendants and create pretrial services for low risk offenders outside of jail. under the supervision of the probation department. >> if you're a taxpayer in massachusetts, you are spending $100 million that you don't need >> blair: now, representative who supports this bill, believes this will drop the jail population by about 25%. according to a study though by the council of state governments, the average incarceration for pretrial defendants is almost two months and that's costing taxpayers more than $100 a day per inmate. >> vanessa: this could save a lot of money. what do you have coming up for us at 10:00 p.m. >> blair: keep in mind, there's a whole other side to this repeat offenders are constantly let go. one case led to an examination of the court system on this very issue, an one of the recommendations to come out of that investigation considering the use of risk assessment tools, so we'll get into that tonight at 10:00 p.m. as well. >> vanessa: blair, thank you. new at 5:30 p.m., attorney general loretta lynch is calling the f.b.i.'s annual crimes report sobering. the jurors report for 2015 shows the lgbtq community. there were more than 400 hate creams reported in massachusetts last year. 13 incidents were reported in new,c[f hampshire. attacks against muslims have also increased 67%. one advocate warns, next year's report will be even worse. >> i don't think we've ever seen this level of fear and apprehension, particularly, in the american muslim community, even after 9-11. >> vanessa: advocates are also trump, saying he incited attacks during his campaign. during an interview with 60 minutes last weekend, trump told people to "stop it." >> mark: local hockey player paralyzed during the winter classic has been recognized for her strength and courage. the christopher and dana reeve foundation awarded lang with the dana reeve award. she severely injured her spinal cord nearly a year ago. lang has limited arm movement and no feeling in kevin: that's a sunset and you may not see much of a sunset by tomorrow at this time. the clouds will be rolling back in here. let's talk about what we had going on. we had the clouds that just pushed off of cape cod and the islands, all attached to this storm out here. that storm has been trying -- been playing havoc with us all week long. throwing the clouds right back toward us and it brings it storm backwards toward us over the next 24 hours. this storm's center won't ever make landfall here, no big winds the nuisance clouds that keep coming back toward us. we have this storm system, which continues to track off toward the northeast as expected. however, it's still going to drag this cold front through our area, and that cold front really means business. ahead of it, we're getting severe weather, you receive the yellow boxes in indiana, those are severe thunderstorm warnings and this cold front is actually draped right in here where you can find that precipitation. behind it, the cold air comes pouring in and you have snow to contend with. now, there's another way to find this front, that is to right in here, between oh, let's push it back up this way, chicago and indianapolis, there is a front that splits in here. 50's to the west of it. 70's out ahead of it. 70's in november, and that's why you're getting the severe weather in this part of the country. here are the temperatures back hole. it's not so bad out there, 60 degrees in boston right now. a couple of degrees warmer for a high temperature today. we'll take that. off to the west, 57. 40's off to the north and west and clear out there for now. through the overnight and first thing in the morning, 6:30 a.m., taking over cape cod, push them back beyond i-95. by lunchtime, getting into the boston area, it will be cloudy, that's why you're not great west coast to see much of a sunset, no sunset in boston. it will still go down, i promise, just not going to see t it's too cloudy. clouds go back to 495 by dinnertime. high temperatures tomorrow, low to mid 50's at best on cape cod, clouds are there from the beginning, with some sun in the mid 50's on the south 60-degree reading or two, in the merrimack valley, because that's where you'll receive the most sun tomorrow after the clouds roll in. tomorrow, in plymouth, it's the annual thanksgiving parade. it's happening at 11:00 a.m. this is the forecast throughout the day, starting at 9:00 a.m., it will be cloudy already and stay cloudy throughout the day and in the low 50's, cooling off to the 40's during evening. that's just a start of the changes this weekend. look at the showers coming through sunday morning, that's the front we talked about off to the west an behind the front, that's snow following in the berkshires, northward into the green mountains and the worcester hills as well. you see it here in the seven-day forecast. incredible difference between saturday, mild temperatures and increasing clouds and sunday, with the showers and even some snowflakes that start to work on in here. by monday, still some flurries around. if you're worried about accumulating snow, you have to really look off to the north and west for that, but there will certainly be some in the ski areas, the berkshires as well, when you get out of these colors, there's nothing accumulating, but you can still see we're tacking about the sunday receive, where police are trying to track down the driver. john? >> the reporter: they're looking for him tonight. the crosswalk we're talking about is right across the street behind me. that's where the 72-year-old woman was hit when a minivan sideswiped her, knocking her to the pavement, all of it caught on a surveillance camera above. chelsea's police chief posted this video on his twitter account, check it out. woman appears in the bottom left corner of that video, walking through the crosswalk. suddenly, she is hit and spun around by a white minivan. the vehicle does not stop, but just keeps on going. the woman, who is 72, was left lying on the street, on her back. somehow, she managed to roll over and sit up as someone rushes to help her. police say the woman had a laceration on her forehead. she was rushed to mass general with what police describe as non-life-threatening injuries.
