unclear if she's facing any charges. now, coming up at 5:00, i actually spoke with another witness who was right there as this was all unfolding. why he said he had to jump out of the way in order to -- so that he didn't get hit by this driver. >> we're following breaking news right now. sky fox live as firefighters are working to battle this fire in hyde park. sky fox shows the thick smoke billowing from the top of the structure. a number of firefighters, you can see them climbing on top of the building. fox 25 has a crew on the ground on the way. we'll monitor this as the fire fight continues. there are no reports of any injuries at this hour. >> developing tonight, a local teen is under arrest for attempted murder accused of brother while on vacation in florida. newton resident gust ramgren was cooperative and provided a confession to the stabbing. the mother and brother are in critical condition. he faces two counts of attempted murder. >> a man faces charges trying to kidnap a child from a store. front of his parents, threw the boy over his shoulder and walked away. the father stopped him and took his son back. o'brien left the store and left a short time later. he's being held on $1,000 bail. also developing right now, police in brazil confirm u.s. swimmers were not the victims of an armed robbery in rio as they claimed. mark, police just held a news conference a few minutes ago. four american swimmers were not victims of an armed robbery. however, they did vandalize a gas station. surveillance camera shows them stop at a gas station while on the way back to the athletes village after a party on sunday. a security guard pointed a gun at the swimmers to control them but it wasn't excessive use of force. police say lochte was confrontational with guards because he was drunk. they added during questioning, one of the swimmers police are now calling for the swimmers to apologize to the people of rio. they say one or all may be charged with reporting a crime that never happened as well as the vandalism we told you about. but right now, the investigation is still ongoing. elizabeth? >> the question here is why? right? well, extreme drought conditions are extending across massachusetts and parts of new hampshire. now some towns and water districts are talking about adding to the restrictions that are already in place. annedover where governor baker spoke about the problem in the last few minutes or so. >> that's right. in fact, the news conference still going on right now. what we can tell you is governor baker stopped short of declaring an emergency here in massachusetts. however, he and his top advisers say that is one of the options that still is on the table in addition to special federal assistance, possibly for farmers if they continue to lose crops in the drought. governor baker here at this small farm in we can tell you the strawberry field they're standing in front of right now, the owner tells me should be about a foot high. instead, it really just looks like a patch of dirt at this point. now, the extreme drought conditions, and that is a term being used, now include 17% of eastern massachusetts and about 4% of southern new hampshire. today we also flew sky fox to show you just how low some of the local reservoirs have gotten. fox 25 also spoke to people in that have had additional water restrictions. one of the two water districts has a moratorium on any outside watering except the use of hand tell hoses. they say there's not much more they can do now to cutback. >> what stage are you at now? >> we're at the most critical stage there is. no water. >> you can't go higher. >> no. the next step is to -- if they mandate it, if they mandate that you have to cut out hand watering, that's the next step. >> the linfield center water district told me he hasn't seen conditions this bad since 2006. this year he told me their water district has used add in newspapers, even reverse 9d 11 calls to their customers, the residents, reminding them they need to conserve, that they're being ordered to conserve water. today the governor also made a direct plea to everyone in massachusetts about cutting back their use of water. we're going to put the comments together for you and we'll have >> obviously this is a real concern. chief meteorologist is here now. kevin, there's some rain in the forecast but it is not enough to solve what is a serious problem. >> i was hoping we would get some next week. it looks like it will be mostly western massachusetts. where you can see here, it's less of a problem. still a problem but less of a problem than here in eastern massachusetts. this is extreme drought and there's still another category to go. exceptional drought. so as dry as we've been, it can get even worse. we don't want to get there. bu normal so far for the year in boston and the boston area. that's crazy stuff and that's why it's so dry and why your lawn looks like it does out there. there are sunny skies around eastern massachusetts now. some rain we're talking about is some showers and thunderstorms popping up back here. we thought they would be in western new england. these are the berkshires and vermont, some thunderstorm activity here. not having an easy time of it and there's not much behind it. it will be moving into the area. that's not coming to the rescue. you hate to root for a tropical storm but that's the kind of moisture we need to break the drought conditions. we will talk about the potential for rain early next week in a few minutes. >> investigators are searching for the person who killed a jog engineer princeton. it's been almost two weeks since vanessa was abducted on the side of brooks station road. they are killer has not been found. fox 25 walked through the crime scene with a private investigator and former police investigators are dealing with out there and he said the spread out scene through dense woods creates a big challenge in the search for evidence. >> two tractor trailers collided this morning on the mass pike. video taken around 2:30 near exit 10 in auburn. you can see there's a lot of damage there. traffic delays lasted well into the morning commute. police say one of the drivers were seriously hurt. >> the cyclist who was hit by a pickup truck is doing better road yesterday morning. the 61-year-old is in critical condition but now stable. police do plan to charge the driver of that truck. >> firefighters removed a group of protestors who handcuffed themselves to a fence in west roxbury. and now as jessica reports, it's all part of an ongoing protest against the construction of a natural gas pipeline that would bring fracking to boston. police and fire crews worked to free three people who chained themselves to the fence of property this morning. >> i know i'm going to get arrested. i'm on the wrong side of the fence here. >> tom mcdonald was one of the three people. he said it's all in response to the controversial west roxbury lateral pipeline that would bring fraked gas into boston. >> civil disobedience is what you have to do when the legal system won't do it for you. spectra is locking us into climate destruction and a danger to the community. >> pipeline is running through a highly residential area, right next to a blasting. >> the goal of the demonstration was to delay construction for as long as possible. >> it's no sweat on my back to lock myself to a gate. i hope i stop the work for a good period of time because the work should never have started. >> while that massachusetts senator is growing -- among a growing number of leaders in washington demanding more responsibility from the senator spoke at logan today a week after a glitch at delta caused hundreds of delays nationwide, affecting dozens of flights in boston. that's after southwest had a similar malfunction earlier in year. he's calling for an airline resiliency effort to keep flights on time. >> latest cnn polls and gary johnson has 9%. candidate needs to poll at least 15% to participate in the upcoming presidential debate. >> federal civil rights lawyers against muslims. earlier this year the town refused to allow the islamic society of greater worcester to create an islamic cemetery in the town. now they're looking at whether the town violated exercised religious rights. dudley residents cited concerns about property values, traffic hazards and water pollution. >> so in a serious drought situation, you know that. we've been there. it's getting worse. all areas in red in the extreme drought. that's 17% of the state covered in that. it's about 2% of the entire northeast so it's a small percentage of the entire northeast. i read a tidbit saying that the they will be out of water in 30 days. that's amazing to think about. it's a tidbit i found that truck me with a whole city like that not having enough water. showers in western new england have been popping up. heavy rain shower, no thunder or lightning with it. same thing back here in the hudson valley. this one here in southern vermont. it will track southwest n southeastern vermont, be aware that's on its way. it's not a severe storm but there's some thunder and lightning. lightning is a dangerous situation no matter what kind of storm is headed towards you. if there's lightning, take cover. there's not a lot of rain out here. see the front we talked about, two systems, one that cut across with a few showers for the south coast and this is the front that was going to bring showers and storms to western new england, not a huge concern. it's just a couple of showers and those are going to wash out. so here's what we really need. cheer for a storm to hit us. after all, tomorrow is the 25th anniversary of hurricane bob and devastation it brought to southern new england. that's the kind of rain we need. we don't want the rain and wind. fiona latest stats, 25 mile-per-hour winds. so fiona would track like this towards the northwest. notice this little kink in the forecast tracks and our computer models. that's showing a slight turn to the north. this is bermuda out here. which i expect, it would miss us. we wouldn't get any of the moisture from this. we wouldn't get any rainfall. it wouldn't help at all. tonight you don't want rain. around 80 degrees at 7:00 and dropping through the 70s during the course of the game and clearing skies. it will be a pretty night. billy joel is at fenway park this evening. temperature at 82 at 7:00. 76 by midnight when everybody is out of the show and hanging around. tonight. 71 degrees at 6:00 p.m. on the north end. 78 by 10:00 a.m. and the food will be fantastic. lunchtime temperatures in the 80s. so going to the beach tomorrow is a great idea. high temperatures across the area tomorrow will generally be in the 80s. a couple of 70s, most in the outer cape and certainly here's the seven-day forecast. another dry and sun drenched weekend. this is looking good. temperatures in the 80s so you like the good weather but you want the rain. now, our chance for rain is monday. a system coming at us with a lot of water with it, the way it's pointed is more toward western and northern new england, not where we need it so badly in eastern new england. something that you want to watch very closely, newest information coming in right now, shows you forecasters are warning more rain is on the way. today the head of the national guard around baton rouge. right now tens of thousands remain displaced from their homes. football players from the rico. 500 people were rescued off the boat and today video shows how the massive effort was going. you can see the smoking ferry here surrounded by several ships working to get people off. investigators believe that fire started in the ship's engine room and then spread to other parts of the ship. >> right now there are signs up all over the place in the back they're warning residents news room. >> 33 people are rushed to the hospital after being hit by a car in downtown boston. it happened at the intersection of school and washington streets just before noon. witnesses say the driver tried to take off with at least two of the victims still under the ca we're told she's now cooperating with police. fox 25 is live at the scene. she's talking to witnesses and we'll have a report next at 5:00. >> also developing tonight, newton teen is accused of trying to kill his mother and brother while on vacation in florida. police say 16-year-old gust ramgren stabbed them at a home last night. police say ramgren provided a confession about the stabbing. he faces two counts of attempted murder. >> a police officer accused of being on the wrong side of the law. today he faced a judge on charges that he attacked his pregnant wife. off the job and in handcuffs, prosecutors say everett officer launched a dangerous assault on his wife who is seven months pregnant. he's accused of hitting her in the face and trying to kick her in the stomach during an argument on sunday but in court, prosecutors say the victim told police the fight actually started saturday. she stated they had a verbal argument the night before about him having females in the house while she was away. the argument continued into this particular day. >> prosecutors say he threatened to get his gun. >> she was pulling on his shirt to keep him from getting to the safe where the guns were. >> the alleged victim ran out of the house trying to escape with their young children in her car. >> at that point, the report indicates that he grabbed the 6-year-old child and placed that she could not leave. >> the alleged victim was able to get away with the couple's 3-year-old child. prosecutors describe the 34-year-old as a man constantly jealous and controlling, increasingly violent and a drinker but the attorney says he's a former marine who is vetted by the police department and says not all the allegations are true. >> the only physical abuse that took place on sunday is when he was defending himself when his wife refused to let him go out the door to a men's game he had scheduled z. maury was ordered released on $100,000 bail. he's been ordered to stay away from his wife and children and will live with a relative as the case moves forward. >> it was a relatively comfortable day out there today. nice day but still no relief from the drought. kevin is tracking what's on the way as the weekend approaches. >> we all want beautiful weather. with we get into the situation where we need rain so badly, a couple of wet days would do us good. not happening. there's one here in southern have the and a couple back here in the hudson valley of new york trying to make it into couple of strikes headed toward 91 and southwest new hampshire f. that can hold together. but these don't look like they'll make it into massachusetts. and there's not much activity behind them. i'm sure you have these in here but those will tend to die out as the sun goes down and we're back to sunshine for tomorrow. gulf time temperatures this evening or around town, 6:00 is 85 degrees, dropping down to the 70s and clearing out by 10:00 tonight. jip trip forecast for the morning and we'll look at the weekend forecast as well. >> daughter and 10-year-old daughter are recovering in the hospital after being hit by a car earlier this week. the two were in roxbury with a were hit. father of five children was badly hurt when he pushed his daughter out of the way of the toyota. his daughter has a hairline hip fracture and fractured ankle. >> my brother's injuries were more swelling of brain. luckily by god, there was nothing. >> driver stayed on the scene and not charged. he is expected to recover and his daughter should be released from the hospital soon >> boston p patrols in one neighborhood tonight after a watch group posted these flyers with a warning for residents. neighbors spotted a peeping tom lurking around people's homes. michael reports from the back bay where neighbors are pretty concerned tonight. >> the warning signs hang from trees in back bay. be on the lookout for a peeping tom. >> i think it's something we should be vigilant about for sure. >> jonathan lives near the area man lurking in yards and looking into other people's homes multiple times in recent weeks. one person saw a man take off in a white ford pickup truck. >> kind of scary. >> liz tucker spoke with fox 25 while taking her dog for a walk. >> a couple of nights prior to seeing that, there was a guy screaming at 11:00 screening help, help, i'm being robbed. two days later the signs went up. >> boston police say detectives are aware of these reports and they are investigating. police have seen stepped up patrols in the area. >> we had to kind of look out for each other, so if you see something happening, to someone else or something looks alarming, even not screaming, like maybe be vigilant and help out, help out your friends and neighbors. >> the neighborhood watch group crime. that's why if you know anything about who this so-called peeping tom might be, you're asked to call boston police right away. >> new at 4:00, 200 pounds marijuana seized in a massive drug bust. andrew erickson was arraigned on drug trafficking earlier this week. police found him with marijuana with more than $10,000 of cash and cocaine during his search in west port last week. also new at 4:00, this man is facing charges for stolen jewelry to a pawn shop in new hampshire. mark tochi was arrested. they say he stole jewelry worth more than $1,500. he's facing 15 years in prison and will be in court in october. >> a dentist in new bedford may have had trouble getting his patient to open wide and perhaps even concern for his own safety a little bit. the reason is the patient was a called in for a small procedure, removing that painful tooth. of course, the bear had to be heavily sedated for the procedure. what if it woke up? ursula was able to come out of her enclosure after the successful procedure. >> the dentist was overheard saying that was a bear of a job. of the school year, a study finds the pay gap between public school teachers and other college graduates is wider than ever. >> teachers are really committed. you know, they're not necessarily in it to make a ton of money, but they need to be able to support their families. they have children, too. other college graduates in 2015 according to a new research report from the less leaning policy institute. in 1994, the gap was just 1.8%. even when you factor in benefits, which are typically better than other workers, teachers still come up short. >> the consequences that teachers are leaving hudson value of new york, we're keeping an eye on that, too. southern vermont, this storm cell has thunder and lightning. it has weakened to just a rain shower at this point and it will continue to weaken as well but move into dover and vermont. if it holds together around 6:30 and you might get a light shower when that gets to you. that's where all the activity is. they need rain back in new york like massachusetts but this is not the stuff that's going to break any kind of a drought. you need to fly out here and pick up moisture from fiona. she's spinning out in the atlantic and not a threat at all to the u.s. these are latest statistics. 45 mile-per-hour winds moving northwest at 10. pressure hasn't changed since last night, meaning she's not intensified when the pressure goes down, the wind speeds pick up, the storm becomes stronger. that's not happening. it's barely a tropical storm at that it's gk to take is to the northwest. there's a little kink in the turning action right in here by early next week. this is hamilton, bermuda. this is going to the east of bermuda. it will churn up the water. taking a cruise out that way, good for you. it will get bumpy. but this looks like it will turn this way and we can tell that by looking at the computer models. throw them against the wall and they spread out like spaghetti and all of them are turning this steer fiona
