community leadership academy. police tells it happened on clarify avenue near the american legion highway shortly before 1:00 this afternoon. witnesses say it appears the driver lost control and rolled over. now it's unclear if the student was behind the wheel or passenger. we're working to learn the name of the victim as well as more details surrounding this crash. a car sinking -- -- didn't hesitate to run straight over and dive in. when a witness changed her outlook on life forever. we're having a little bit of video trouble. these divers couldn't get the car out of the pond. it's still all the houses so close and the gunfire. >> reporter: tom brought candles from the memorial for his brother a swansea police officer killed on duty by a drunk driver 11 years ago. the night my brother lost his life they there were for me. there's nowhere i >> dozens watched from benington up to orient ave where they prayed again under the madonna queen of the universe shrine overlooking boston. >> once you see the pictures it really hits home they are human beings and i want to do it for the families. >> reporter: as both men still in critical but stable condition endure a second round of surgery residents >> every time they go out they are put in arms way. now the officer endured his second round of officer today and officer morris' next round of surgery will be tomorrow. of course everyone in this neighborhood we talked to is thinking about them and praying for their recovery. we did speak with commissioner bill evans he tells us that he has been at the hospital and he's en despite their status still being in critical but stable condition he tells us that despite the conditions they actually are in good spirits. live in east boston tonight, christine mccarthy, fox 25 news. tonight the army says the suspect in the boston officer shooting lied about his military experience. an army spokesperson tells fox 25 he enlisted in 2003 but he received a hardship discharge just five months later. he never even attended basic training. served eight years in the reserves. and lots of activity at the scene of the shootings in east boston today. you can see the crime scene democratic party. the vermont man accused of causing a head-on crash that killed five teens was courtroom today. he is still in the hospital recovering treatment from injuries from that crash. investigators say the 36-year-old was driving the wrong way on interstate 89 just before midnight saturday when he hit a car with five teenagers he then accused of stealing a police cruiser and faces five counts of second-degree murder along with several winds right now are calm that's letting temperatures drop quickly. our current numbers down to freezing or below in a few spots. 39 boylston, and will have upper 20s waking up. norwood and bedford will see medical 20s and keen. and beverly some frost to start the day. now it's a sunny saturday. we do have a southwest wind that takes over on sunday that warms us up and brings a couple of high clouds ahead of this next front. so all in all a nice dry weekend gets here after dark. high temperatures tomorrow though on saturday under sunny skies in the upper 50s and lower 60s. it will feel milder enjoy the fall sites. now the five k on sunday we get underway around 8:30 things out. it will be mild by midday though with temperatures already in the mid-up ander 60s. same goes for gillette. my patriots forecast just keeps getting a little bit warmer day-by-day here. then for kickoff seven degrees. we'll have a bit more wind than what i saw a couple days ago coming out of the southwest but nothing too excruciating upper 60s to near 70 as we round things out at about 4:00. now we do need some more rain even though we have a wet october. above normal above i should say total just a little above normal for october in boston. good news is we are going to get a little more rain and it's going to be coming in late on sunday night and early on monday morning. a tenth to maybe a quarter of an inch of rain. at least something to wet things down around. then next week bigger story is the mild temperatures. look at those mid-70s has more. >> reporter: two men were out on a bike ride when they heard what sounded like a collision then a splash. they didn't hesitate to run straight over and dive in. what they witnessed changed their outlook on life forever. >> i would like to take the opportunity to just say how precious life is. understood, that was a big part of what happened today. >> reporter: these are the people credited with saving a life. the men diving in to save a 68-year-old driver of a ford edge who lost control of her car backing up in arlington and wound up in spy pond sinking deeper. and floating out further. thankfully for her these bystanders better than to let it happen. was about 10 seconds she popped up. >> reporter: even working through some scary moments as the car filled with water and goes under. ken chapman and dan fraser say from being in the right place at the right time. >> i lost her. i lost her. >> reporter: to being able to open the door of a sinking vehicle and get something for that woman to float on. >> i felt like just collapsing right there at that second i grabbed it. >> reporter: they say intervention is what made this woman a success. >> hold on. >> arlington police say that woman from medford is alive thanks to the good samaritans now considered heroes not just to the woman they rescued but to everyone who watched. >> you have been calling for a rock to break the window and you know they performed as well or better than trained rescuers and first responders. trying divers couldn't get that car out of spy pond today it's still sitting about
