i am daniel miller. >> julie: good morning, everyone, i am julie grauert. another cold morning out there. meteorologist shiri spear says cold enough for a little snow in parts of new england before things turn soaking wet. >> shiri: you see that with this batch of show moving through new york. pretty chilly temperatures in place. all we have locally a couple of sprinkles impacting the cape where we have thicker clouds. down toward hyannis don't be surprised to see a quick little spritz. 35 in boston but it is freezing freezing up to beverly, lawrence and worcester. we have partly cloudy skies to get things started but most of us will start the day dry here and through 9 a.m., the potential for not just frosty temperatures but freezing temperatures out there. here is worcester today, and you can see it is real tough to warm things up. in worcester, we only get into the lower 40s. as rain develops between 2 and 3:00 this afternoon it will be a very cold rain. an opportunity for a cup of flurries up ahead of that main we have an hour-by-hour look at futurecast and who gets to snow today when the rain moves in for you coming up in 10. julie grauert has more live drive time. shiri, good morning. let you know about overnight closures. ted williams eastbound. the tunnel closed between exit 24 and exit 26. south of the pike everything moving along fine along the expressway. 24 minutes on the pike eastbound from 495 to mass avenue. 8 minutes on the expressway. 23 minutes on 93 passengers jumping out of train windows to a platform full of smoke destroyed the evening commute for thousands of people. many of whom will pass through the very same station today during the morning rush hour. this morning the mbta is blaming the smoke on one the car's motors. >> this is what the t is telling us 4:39 notified of a propulsion issue at back bay. started jumping out of the windows to escape the smoke. three people got hurt and the mbta are trying to figure out what went wrong. our christine mccarthy spoke to several riders of the chaos inside those trains. >> reporter: chaos during the commute. riders leased from windows of an orange line train as the back bay.filled with smoke. >> it was stressful. i didn't know what was going on. people yelling there was a fire. >> reporter: brie grabbed her cell phone and started recording from inside. the doors wouldn't open, so another rider stepped up. >> somebody smashed a window and they kicked it out. and we all jumped out of the t through the window. >> reporter: another passenger shot this video as the group scrambled up the stairs. skyfox captured fire fighters responding to help passengers evacuate. -- >> it was kind of hard to breathe and see. pretty thick smoke. kind of concerning. people were coughing and panicking. >> reporter: the t is investigating but officials say the issue was likely a motor problem. >> the first thing i thought was what was going on. >> reporter: michael myers said a situation he never before witnessed. >> we were all grouped up in one space. we were all running up the escalator. >> reporter: but for shelly, the third time she experience problem is fixed soon. >> i hope the t gets special attention. a lot of us use it every single day were report at the back bay station, christine mccarthy. >> as to why the doors did not open away. it was intentional not an accident. people were moving away from the platform and if they jumped out right away, it would have landed on the live third rail. once it was safe they opened passengers knocked out windows to escape a train. this is video from the winter when a panel fell off and it landed on the track causing the train to grind to a halt and caused smoke to felt nearby state state station. >> daniel: the t told us that panel fell off because it simply deteriorated. it was old. it turns out old line trains are some of the older in the fleet. they date back never have been released as you can see. we confirmed with the mbta that 100 orange line trains are expected to be replaced in 2018. now 4:05. new surveillance video show the man police believed tried to kidnap a young girl in roxbury. we got the surveillance video from a convenience 120r near blue hill avenue. the suspect following the 13-year-old girl on her way to school. she told police he grabbed her by the arm and covered her the middle schooler fought off the stranger and ran away. a man tries to grab a woman after exposing himself on a popular trail. this morning marblehead police are working to find him. video of where the attack happened. the woman told police walking on the old rail trail behind the tower school when a masked man confronted her yesterday morning. >> she was approaching him. saw her on the bike near the fence, and he got off the bike and st i knew it was a problem as soon as i saw that. >> daniel: the woman yelled for help and scared the man off. the school was put on lockdown. the sheriff deputy that shot the taunton stabbing suspect was justified in using deadly force. off-duty sheriff deputy james creed was finishing dinner at bertucci's when he jumped into dealing with a deep depression after he and his girlfriend broke up. they had two children. he killed a woman at a home and george heath at the mall. deputy creed stopped and killed darosa when he refused to put down the knife and get on the ground. hope the attention the state and local leader will draw out sex offenders living inside the same apartment building. fox25 broke this story last week. the state registry level 3 offenders live in an apartment. they spoke to city councillors and several boston police officers. people hope this is the next step to making their neighborhood a safer place. >> we have two boys who play in my back yard in my driveway and i am scared. i am scared for them. i am scared for the other children. and i was extremely worried because nobody ever notified us that, you know, they were there. >> daniel: the massachusetts aclu is also taking notice on this issue a letter to boston police. they claim what neighbors are doing is against the law and that the sex offenders are allowed to live there. a runaway truck caused a lot of damage to this million dollar home in winchester. happened on lorena road. the house is apparently for sale and no one was inside at the time. no one was in the truck either. the truck slipped out of park and rolled into the side of the garage. boston police say an uber driver was behind the wheel when a suv drove into a wall in beacon hill. this is video from grove street. the driver was trying to turn left when a car clipped him sending him in the building. there was a passenger in the car. both were taken to the hospital but should be okay. more than 500 people showed up to pay tribute to the lives taken in the middleborough wrong-way track. jacqui heinrich takes us inside what an an emotional night in hearted mourning the loves those young men. the warning was uplifting, practice love because you never know when it will be your last chance. >> reporter: parents of four young men whose lives were taken too soon sharing their grief with around a bowl and a spoon. off-duty fire fighter spotted that bowl. >> i saw the bowl. it was just on the scene. there is no way -- that is the bowl that just happened to be right by my house, and hopped a cup of fences and we found her. >> to justin, thank you very much. >> reporter: now family members are by her side. >> she is not eating but she is taking iv fluids and just an evaluation process is ongoing. >> reporter: lucier is trying to talk and answer questions, but if you mention the word ice cream. >> i said kathy, you missed three days of ice cream and she raised her right eyebrow, could you tell she knew what i was talking about. she has been found. her her is by her -- her husband is by her bedside which is a comfort and she will be in the hospital as doctors and hospital is on a hunger strike. martin fell to the floor at his arraignment yesterday where he -- where he pleaded not guilty. it is unclear this morning whether he tripped or fainted. that was the especially from the south shore over to the north shore if anything gets inland. potential of one or two flurries. nothing sticky or going to make a mess of the morning commute. so we have a lot of clouds around today. clouds will thicken up pretty blue skies and count on things. we have the first of real rain starting to pop up. my only concern if it is slow to warm up a bit of concern into southern new hampshire initially here. by the evening commute. as the pace of these showers is picking up, plain rain. out to the berkshires and travelling to western mass, that is where the focus of our know is going to remain. overnight, we continue with the heavy rain at times, and if you are part of the early mornin really going to be the worse here, probably 4, 5, 6:00 in the morning. by 8 a.m. most of the showers gone in southern cape. even those locations drying out. going to be very windy. heavy rain going to be our biggest weather threat. things get windy tonight and tomorrow and we will have to consider the potential for wind damage across the cape. snow hazard today is going to be low. a cup of morning flurries aren't going to cause any problems. mountains that you find some accumulation up to the berkshires, western mass a couple of inches possible and could end up with a coating and some thicking out into southwestern new hampshire. before we flip over to rain, tracking to middle 40s. low temperatures not too bad and sticking with all rain and for the day tomorrow, we have highs back up to around 50 degrees and still into your morning commute tomorrow. 54 degrees. turning windy. over the weekend, rain chances, mostly now on sunday. that has flipped since yesterday. saturday looks like the drier day. only the slight risk and remaining mostly cloudy. back to you
