years. >>reporter: police tell me they will be available tomorrow to answer all of our questions about this case. tonight the victim's family wants to tell the lead detective thank you. >>she was a fun person to be around. >>reporter: it has been 8 painful years for the family of mayola houser whose murder went unsolved. >> she did not deserve to die like that. >>reporter: her cousin audrey told me she found her bound and strangled in her home the day before thanksgiving. >>each year we think about her and we asked god to bring justice. >>reporter: at that time police named kenneth ray reed a suspect. family members say he was a longtime friend which made this worse. >>today is thursday. i saw him to stay in the community walking from the wednesday when the 63-year-old was picked up during a drug operation armed with dna evidence from the crime scene, leesburg detectives jumped in and arrested him for second- degree murder. family members took to facebook expressing gratitude that there mayola can rest in peace. >>without it was a cold case. now we feel like we could get justice. we feel like there will be some justice served. >>reporter: family members tell me mayola had one $500 in the lottery before she was attacked. sadly they believe it may have been motive for her murder. angela jacobs channel 9 eyewitness news. breaking right now. one lane of i-95 southbound just reopened after this car carrier caught fire just before 9:30 tonight. look at this live look. we are told 6 vehicles on that no one was injured. you can still see some light, we will keep an eye on this accident and let you know more information when this completely clears up. >>we're also following breaking national news where authorities made to terrorism related arrests in california and in texas. a complaint accuses a 23-year- old sacramento man of traveling to syria to fight with terrorism and lying about it. he is an iraqi citizen and was arrested this morning in sacramento. he's being charged with making a false statement involving international terrorism. the governor of texas said another terror related arrest was made in houston. rapid gunfire coming from a home made a quiet neighborhood sound like a war zone. police say michael taylor thomas barricaded himself in his home just after 11:30 [ laughter ] . after a family and tried to kill her. just after officers arrived he opened fire on them. he surrendered nearly 12 hours later. >>mr. taylor was extremely lucky that he gets to go to jail and nothing worse than that. >>taylor has been charged with 23 counts of attempted murder on an officer, domestic violence, battery and aggravated assault. a man convicted of murdering 3 women including a 17-year-old has been executed. tonight's execution was delayed as the us supreme court looked over oscar bowman's final appeal but rejected it. he was pronounced dead at the florida state prison less than an hour ago. sanford police are asking for the public's help to find the person who killed a popular store owner days before christmas. >>they released new photos from inside the store showing 3 people they want to talk to. jeff, you show those pictures >>that is right. i did show this picture of the 3 people in the surveillance neighborhood. i also talk to the sun of the victim over the phone and told him about the latest development and he tells me he hopes someone comes forward soon to solve the murder. take a close look at the people in these photos taken on the night of the murder of joshua hur. the picture showed 2 men and a woman at the counter of the food store and possibly they were the last people to see him alive. hur was locking up the store and heading to church when he was gunned down in the parking lot 9 december 23rd. police told me people in the pictures are no suspects in the murder, they just want to talk to them because they believe they may have information regarding events leading up to and surrounding the shooting. i went to several homes tonight and asked residents if they recognize the people in the the response was the same. >>i did not recognize anybody but i hope they find who did this. >>reporter: sanford's police chief released a statement saying quote, individuals who commit crimes like this need to be brought to justice. smith said people who know about this crime and others need to come forward and stop covering for criminals. meanwhile angel who frequents the store 3-5 times a week with her kids said she will do her part. >>this man was very loved and i hope these pictures coming out, maybe somebody will recognize something. if you are not sure, spread the pictures. get the word out. >>reporter: there is a memorial outside the store just feet from where hur was gunned down. by going to facebook.com. >>we will be in touch with saffer police overnight. a 75-year-old woman who caused a fatal chain reaction crash and last october not face criminal charges. prosecutors say there is no evidence cinthia guthrie was reckless or negligent when she crashed into a family at 434 and 436 killing a father and his infant son. police say she had a clean driving record. a witness said she was speeding but police determined she was not speeding, not under the influence of drug or alcohol or not using a cell phone. >>we can only assume what the witness saw was a car traveling which we calculated at 45 miles speed colliding with stopped cars. obviously that would appear as that car was speeding. >>guthrie told police she has no idea why she did not stop or slow down. she was given a careless driving ticket and have to face the judge because the fatalities. a man could face up to life in prison for selling a 16-year- old girl online for sex. he is charged with human trafficking. he asked the teenage girl to have sex with men for money on the website. the judge denied the suspects bond today saying he made confessions to investigators. right now marion county deputies are asking for help in solving the death of a correction officer found shot to death in his front yard. today investigators returned to the scene of the shooting. former marion county correction officer ronnie daymond died after he was found in the yard. deputies are calling his death suspicious. florida hospitals working person who went to trash at one of its facilities and then dump the medical waste in the woods nearby. we first showed you these iv bags, also glass vials amp or scratch and drug oxus left out on the woods on monday. today we found similar trash the hundred dumpster of [ indiscernible ]. police are testing the liquid found in the vials. florida hospital officials insist any narcotics are disposed of in a completely different location. police are looking for a trio of arm suspects who burst into a man's apartment just hours after he moved in. it happened at the saratoga apartments. the suspects took off with the victim's wallet and his car. they later ditched the stolen car and ran into the woods. the suspects may have called someone for a ride out of the area. a plea deal could be reached -- reach for one of the 4 teenagers accused of a conrad schaeffer's trial is scheduled for tomorrow but the state attorney's office says they are expecting schaeffer to take a plea agreement. investigators say he and 3 others opened fire on random homes and cars in 2013 and responsible for the death of 18 and a home invasion murder. covering orange county, ucf has 3 weeks to raise private money for downtown campus in order to meet its deadline and open the campus in 2018. the board of trustees approved a memorandum of understanding with the governor's office outlining the details of the campus. the downtown location would include academic programs including digital media, health sciences, legal studies and social work. >>the downtown campus will be [ indiscernible ] based on the way our students take classes currently. >>ucf plan to ask for $20 million in funding but not until it has secured 20 million and private funds. between 7 and $8 million. tonight we're hearing from the local congresswoman who was served a subpoena. she believes it is a political attack. >>do you think it has to do with the redistricting lawsuit? >>i do. >>congresswoman corrine brown whose district stretches up to jacksonville would not say much more. she's been at the center of a very long redistricting dispute. she filed a federal lawsuit to keep her current congressional district from changing. a man accused of stabbing a couple is being held on a half million dollar bond. police arrested this man 19- year-old michael phillips for brutally stabbing the couple days after christmas. phillips wanted to steal their truck. prosecutors are working to file adult charges against the student accused of stabbing her ex-boyfriend. last month winter springs police told us loida lalinde and cut her ex across the back. she -- is sentence as an adult she faces 2 decades behind bars. is she goes as a useful offender -- youthful offender she could get probation. this community is fighting to save the golf course but they do not agree on how to do it. >>i hope it stays open. >>a developers plan to keep the golf course open. >>areas of dense fog developing. hundreds of orange county residents are fighting to keep their property values from plummeting. >>we were at a community meeting tonight as a developer propose to keep the golf course open. neighbors disagree on how to save the golf course. >>reporter: not everybody is on board in the sweetwater community. with a plan to build 72 townhomes beyond these gates in this relatively dark areas of the community to save the golf course. the sweetwater golf and country club community has 5 her homes and 11 neighborhoods. tonight we found out residence are hoping to keep this golf course out of the weeds. >>reporter: we were there as neighbors worked to figure how to keep it from closing. >>i think it was good. >>reporter: others thought it was a waste of time. >>i don't know why they had the meeting. >>reporter: it is something eyewitnesses told you before, many places in florida has struggled to do. we have a rendering to show a developers plan to build 72 townhomes. >>more homes means that much more cars and traffic in an area that is not well equipped for its. >>reporter: each owner would be required to be a member of the golf club to save the course and the property values. there is also a proposal for the owner of the golf course to build a clubhouse, the owner of the golf course walked out of the meeting without answering questions. >>orange county commissioners have the final say. i talked to county planners and should be on the agenda by april. people and seminal county are fed up with figures and they want commissioners to crack down. for the past few weeks they have done this, neighbors along 434 and 436 stood outside with signs like this telling drivers not to give money. they believe panhandlers are taking advantage of drivers. the county past new rules last year but the neighbors say they do not do enough. they say the permitting process would allow charities to collect cash while discharging -- discouraging others. >>the money is not being used as we have seen, pictures and liquor stores, use for cigarettes and then they go back to the homes at night. >>city county commissioner met with neighbors and deputies this week. he is asked the county manager and attorney to look into the permitting idea. us stocks continued their rocky start in 2016. the dow closed nearly 400 the drop was spurred by massive selloff in china where the market plummeted. now the concern is china's economy is slowing down. financial advisors told us there is no need to panic. fw see told us they have been aware of bears in an orange county neighborhood. crews had to euthanize to bears last month. on tuesday we showed you the damage the bears have done at homes, fences and trash cans. tonight fw see told us they will continue to monitor the bears in the areas. >>not far from where i live. we keep building so there is less and less habitat. we didn't used to have bears and now they are all over the place. >>the season has everybody out of work. 60 degrees downtown, you can see the low clouds, we are at extend all the way down to the surface, we have low clouds as opposed to fog. 59 up in daytona, that is where the fog started and it has been kind of motivating its way down through central florida. patchy areas of fog in the morning and a storm system bypassing us to the north will bring a weakening line of showers in the next several hours and we will have some tomorrow. here is a look at radar with some light showers stretching across. as the radar beam travels up it find some droplets in the air. either way we're going to get more shower activity actually hitting the surface coming in across northern sections of marion county and more shower activity to come. this is going to weaken as it moves in. i expect in about 6 hours we will have some more rainfall to this is 1245 with showers moving through. you can see the forecast models doing a good job initializing what's going through. some light showers for sanford, more expensive rain to the west, none of this will be heavy but pretty wide spread between 4 and 7:00. early morning we have to disney 10k at 5:30 it will be a little damp. 8:00 the showers break up and then we progressively see a pretty dry afternoon although mostly cloudy, just an isolated shower after the morning brigade moves by. saturday we start the day relatively quiet. forecast models have a complete divergence, some say no rain at all in some say it will rain. i think we will have some scattered afternoon and early downpours moving through the area and then on through during the night. not in all day rain but later in the day saturday you have to right now temperatures right at 60 and warming up. we will be in the mid-70s but don't expect a lot of sun. morning rainfall starting out tomorrow, saturday late afternoon showers, sunday it looks good, monday and tuesday fantastic. it is not garbage causing the stink at this local landfill. the reason we found that is 9 investigate found out there is another reason the orange county landfill smell so bad. last year we uncovered reports showing management decided things like drywall combined with household trash even though there was research to say it would cause a stink. a decision to allow sludge from wastewater treatment plants into the landfill compounded the problem. >>we tried to avoid it particularly now that we have this odor issue. at times it becomes an emergency you've got to be able to serve the needs. >>the landfill said they will stop taking the sludge for the time being. an official odor control plan the end of the man -- month. the volusia county judge was asked not to include the incident when he slapped her work. he was accused of killing yessenia suarez and her children . during the hearing today attorneys asked the judge to not admit the testimony from a private -- after she had an affair. his attorney said that evidence was obtained during an illegal arrest. to marion county deputies are off the force for violating policy. deputies stephen williamson and jared mcintyre arrested this woman last month but never read her her rights, illegally searched her and falsify the report to cover it up. supervisors launched an internal investigation noticing the report and that the dash cam did not match. landon winter garden's is supposed to be used for a >>it included 2 ice rinks and a activity center. now winter garden city leaders tell us they thought the up-tempo a day after he was introduced. he is on the recruiting trail snatching up commitments and now less than a month later he has nearly hired his entire coaching staff including defensive coordinator and good buddy. the 2 worked together at oregon and northern iowa. over the last month frost took a peek at the ucf cover and he likes what he sees despite the winless 2015 campaign. >>there are some really good football players on this campus. it was a tough year last year. i know they are young. and they had some injury problems. we are looking for to working with them.
