those days a lot of folks are looking forward to that drawing later we have showers moving through louisiana and new orleans with heavy thunderstorm right now, associated with a front that's going to swing our way and bring us cooler weather by the workweek and some rain by later on this afternoon. we have some fog around. we'll take a look at visibilities in detail in a bit. 63 degrees at all the airports, winds out of the east and southeast between 3 and 7 miles an hour. there will be some sunshine by around noontime. a closer look at the timing on that coming up back to you. a 17-year-old will go before a judge this morning, charged with killing another teen in north tampa on new year's eve. deputies say kaliyah everett shot and killed isaiah thompson at the university woods place. by the time officers got there, everett was gone. >> he didn't say anything the whole time. just standing there and all of a sudden just pulled the gun out, give me what you got. >> everett was tracked down and arrested yesterday after more than a week on the run. he's expected to be transferred murder. a st. pete woman who lost the love of her life suddenly is helping her post about him d yfriend died in august in new york and state police say he may have been using the cell phone around the time of the accident. susan never expected her post would be shared more than 100,000 times and she wants tragedy. >> i just hope that people take a second and think about, is this all worth it, do i want to die over this text message? you think it won't happen to you but it can. >> in florida over the last four years, the highway patrol says there have been more than 5300 crashes involving electronic devices and distracted driving. el chapo, the world's most wanted jackpot, the prize prisoner of mexican authorities. he will return to the same prison that he escaped from six months ago. mexican marines stormed his hideout yesterday, killing five of his gunmen. inside the house they found military grade weapons including rocket launchers and rocket propoled grenades. a philadelphia police officer is recovering after being shot several times by a man who claimed to be inspired by isis. triple murder. deputies want you to see this white ford van. investigators believe the shooter drove this vehicle away from the scene on wednesday. three were killed during the shooting and one victim is still in the hospital. this morning a dade city man is recovering after a 14- year-old beat him with a glass bottle and tried to steal his car. right now the state attorney is considering charging the teen as an adult. running this weekend to keep the memory of phoebe jonchuck alive. alex estrella is running back and forth between clearwater and st. pete and he'd like to help other children in finding missing people in the bay area is easier thanks to technology. >> the one wearable gadget that could mean the difference between life and death and when you can get it. >> the lightning rally against edmonton last night, and my playoff picks coming up in sports. >> and we'll give you a look at the nfl playoff weather coming a game here on abc action news. our weather starts off cloudy with some fog around. the rain will come this afternoon with a high of about 75 in st. petersburg, 76 in tampa. temperatures are going to dip. i'll show you how long they'll go, coming up after the break. when people go missing, days and hours can mean the difference between live and death. new technology can help rescue in hillsborough county to cut down on search time. >> reporter: from a thousand feet up, this deputy is hovering out of the sight of the hillsborough search and rescue chopper, tracking the signal of a missing person. today is just a training exercise but for her, this happens for real all too often. 16 times last year, deputies were able to recover missing people using this safety net bracelet. worn 24 hours a day, it helps track the location of a missing person if they wander. sheriff's office can find someone in minutes instead of hours. >> time is everything when someone goes missing. >> reporter: they can track the signal from the air and on the ground. a few days ago in plant city, someone wandered off wearing the safety net bracelet. deputies found them in 25 minutes. they are urging those with loved ones with a cognitive impairment to get this device. >> if the loved one does go missing, we have a great chance of responding and finding them very soon. >> it's a real sense of accomplishment when we find somebody quickly. >> outstanding job, guys. >> the first disney marathon. they wanted to try and get people to run through all the theme parks before they opened up. so it was a huge logistical nightmare. but since then, this event has taken off. it is the biggest event in orlando, and just about a half hour ago the runners stepped off, about 26,000 of them, for the beginning of the half marathon today. the full marathon is on sunday. they will start today at magic kingdom and go to epcot. >> good luck to them. >> i was there at the beginning when they say, operations is never going to let you have folks running down main street. looks like it's happening. looks like we have some fog happening right now as well. we have a little fog and haze out there, looking down toward davis islands. for the most part we're clear on the radar. we have some showers out west and that's going to come into play later this afternoon as the rain comes in. that will be ahead of a cold front that will drop temperatures and we have high pressure building in for much of the workweek. but the temperatures are going to be quite a bit cooler. checking out current conditions right now, most everyone is in the mid-50s to mid-60s, 64 right now in st. petersburg, 55 in bartow. the big story is going to be visibility, down to about a mile in bartow, so slow things down. less than two miles in brandon and zephyrhills, about a half mile in hudson. so if you're heading out this morning, beware of that fog. it's going to linger around probably till about 10:00. then we'll see things clear out and the rain come in. right now we have temperatures in the 50s and 60s across the state. there is a front pulling through right now around new orleans where you can see this little bubble of warmer weather. that's been with the warm front trying to lift up. this cold front is going to be swinging into our area by later this afternoon into this evening and clearing things out tomorrow. noon and then watch as the showers move in. posted areas from spring hill through new port richey, and by about 8:00 we'll have lingering rain but most of the heavy stuff moved off to the east. tomorrow maybe 20% to 30% chance of rain. then the cold weather sets in. cold weather setting in most areas. we'll clear things out by later on as they start the houston game about 4:30 this afternoon, here on abc action news, texans hosting the chiefs in the wild card game. later this evening, an outdoor stadium with some rain and raw conditions for the steelers in cincinnati against the bengals. that should be interesting as well. 67 for the gulf water temperature as we see the water temperatures drop. we have some fog around out of 2-foot seas and light chop on the inland waterways. sun is up at 7:23 and sets at 5:52. the seven-day forecast, notice the changes from this weekend weather with highs in the 70s to the workweek where we don't get out of the 60s, and overnight lows starting off about 45 to 50 degrees. so a cooler workweek ahead once we get morning, everybody. last night the bolts were in danger of losing their second straight but turned it on in the third period, had a strong then schultz walks it in and bishop gives it up. second period, much better. edmonton made it 2-0 but in the third, the lightning come back in a flurry. hedman and stamkos score within a minute of each other and the lightning get a big, big win last night 3-2 over edmonton. bucs gm interviewing carolina panthers sean mcdermott and harold goodwin to follow. we expect cutter to get in there and interview shortly. he's the favorite. i think if he does get the job, his first decision is going to be, is he going to resign doug martin? the only buc that landed on the all-pro team yesterday. big weekend coming up for jose fernandez and the bulls, uconn coming to town on sunday unbeaten and ranked number one. >> reporter: in order to be the best, you have to beat the best. when it comes to women's college basketball, the best has been uconn for the them two more times before the tournament and it's a big home game. we're going to have a great tournament. but it's one game. >> my picks for this week, i'll pick the chiefs to win and i'll take big still ahead, america's largest automaker is teaming up with ride share to make driverless cars. >> we are looking at the reality of driverless vehicles welcome back. you can rent a car if you don't have one and use lyft. this morning we are looking at how close self-driving cars really are to becoming a reality. >> nearly 20 million self- driving cars could be on the road by 2025, the new prediction from mobile and digital market research firm juniper. nearly every major automaker is working on a driverless car right now. google has logged the most miles so far on public roads. announce their effort to team up in the market. >> and they rank as the most promising because of technology development, miles already tested on the road and scale of the project they are planning. >> but the biggest hurdle for all of them are the ruling for self-driving cars. california is proposing requiring all driverless cars to have a licensed driver behind the wheel at all times. and nhtsa is promising a flexible approach and has not taken a position only california's proposal. still ahead, the influenza mom waking up in a texas jail this morning. >> and she already manage today upset killing isaiah donaldson, tracked down yesterday after more than a week on the run. a former army ranger is running to keep the memory of phoebe jonchuck alive, running between shriners and clearwater beach. the search for the bucs next head coach is on this weekend. a general manager will interview carolina panthers defensive coordinator sean mcdermott and arizona's offensive coordinator harold goodwin. here in the weather center, breezy this morning. i'm hoping there won't be rain for all the runners at disney. i keep thinking about it. >> they'll be able to get through okay this morning. i'm worried about the guy going back and forth between clearwater and the shiners. that's where we'll see the rain later this afternoon. you can see it on the radar behind me. what you're seeing on the river gate tower cam, some cloud and haze looking downward the davis islands area. as we take a look at the radar, across the area we have a few clouds and a little bit of fog. out here to our west, a vigorous cold front tracking across the gulf and will be heading in our direction by later on today. right now 61 degrees in clearwater. with that 61 degrees dew point and mild winds out of the east about 3, we are seeing a little bit of fog forming at the ground level. so we'll be watching for that as we work through the day. 64 in st. petersburg, winds out of the east at 8 and 63 right now in tampa. again, cloudy skies. we have some fog around, visibility under a mile for some areas further in. going through the weekend planner, clouds to start, rains rolling in this afternoon. along with the cold front, it will be cooler behind that cold front and it's not going to affect us much today. we'll hit 76 with those winds coming in. tomorrow looking for a high maybe 77 with 20% chance of showers but wait till you see what happens during the workweek. more on that coming up in the seven-day forecast. thanks, bill. birthday celebration is now a somber memorial. enrique hernandez would have been 20 years old today, hit by a car in 2013 while walking to high school. there were no sidewalks at the time but his loved ones have been pushing for a sidewalk in the area and they are close to getting their goal. there will be a vigil at 6:00 tonight at u.s. 92 and old dixie highway. a bradenton boy tells us he's so tormented by bullies he's afraid to go back to school. the boy who we're not identifying says the situation reached a boiling point before christmas when the bullies threatened to attack him when he least expected it. his grandmother says she's getting no help from school administrators and the taunting continues. >> they would push me around. pencil through his ear into his brain. one threatened to rip his spine out. >> the superintendent says she just learned about the allegations thursday and they take bullying seriously. they also say they have put a plan in place to work with the family and school to help the boy. a man was arrested for selling stolen cell phones and police expect more arrests connected to this case. the owner of st. george phone repair found one phone taken from the tampa ups distribution center. they are reporting $45,000 worth of phones were stolen. >> the one arrest we've made is just a little part of it. we're looking to see how big it is and how many people may be involved. >> some of those police believe are ups employees. the associated press is more than 50% during the 2014- 15 school year. complaints of sexual harassment spiked during that same time but a senior defense official says the increases were due to growing confidence in reporting what happened and more awareness programs. a suspected dognapper is in jail after plotting to kidnap a famous pooch: the obama family dog. scott stalker was in court friday for a gun related charge. someone tipped off the secret service, saying the south dakota man came to the nation's capital to steal bo. police arrested him after finding unlicensed guns and ammo. this is the mother of the affluenza teen, now in texas. authorities arrested her in mexico in december and brought her to texas. she said she understands the possible judgment, up to ten son escape to mexico. then she went onto complain about conditions in her jail cell. >> she expressed displeasure about her accommodations and i explained to her that this was a jail, not a resort. >> her bail is set at $1 million and her lawyer will ask a judge to lower that monday. a new concern about blue bell again. workers say they found listeria contamination at one of the ice cream production plants. last year blue bell recalled its entire product line over listeria contamination. right now the company says they have not found listeria in any ice cream and say they have tested every batch of ice cream they make and they will keep on doing that. the talk this morning, $800 million up for grabs in powerball drawing. some speculate the jackpot could reach $1 billion because so many more people are buying tickets to play this time. >> reporter: hitting the jackpot has never in any lottery anywhere amounted to this. some say the pot could still grow to a billion dollars. if you take the lump sum of that and pay federal taxes, we're still talking north of $350 million. and the odds you'll win something, one in 25. the odds of winning big on the other hand are one in 292 million. you can bet your bottom dollar that's not stopping people from pressing their luck. the top ten u.s. lottery jackpots have all happened within the last three years and most often in pennsylvania, indiana and missouri. frequently in the last four years? >> and home onto that ticket. one $140 million ticket was sold and a year and a half later the winner still hasn't come forward. >> i play 13. that's my lucky number. mcdonald's today is saying thank you with free food for police and deputies. >> it's part of national law enforcement appreciation day. law enforcement can stop in mcdonald's it easy on the weekends. instead, his new addiction has taken over. in a youtube video posted december 31st, he can be seen on the hunt for lakeland police officers. >> they go out every day and put their life on the line. >> to let them know how much he appreciated what they do, he and his wife are delivering thank you gifts. in the video, he stops and purchases several gift cards then searches for officers. >> driving around for two hours. it was two days after christmas. >> reporter: chris delivers the message. >> so i've got a thank you card for you. >> thank you. >> for your service. >> gave her a thank you card asked about christmas. >> when i saw this video, touched my heart. he didn't know this officer, no reason whatsoever to approach her and thank her for her service, give her a gift card. that will stay with the officer the rest of her life. >> reporter: hunt wants to track down even more officers and convince businesses to pitch in. it's a tradition he plans to carry out holiday or not. >> i love that, year round. christmas all the time. tell you what, we'll have one of those days that starts off okay, get lulled into a false sense of security, sunshine by noontime. >> after that, forget it. >> then the rains are coming in. it won't be a complete washout an eye of the sky. we are doing that now with the river gate tower cam. you can see the clouds and haze and fog out there right now. and in dunedin today, 19th annual downtown dunedin art festival on main street starting about 10:00, going to 5:00 this afternoon. but what's the weather going to be like? partly cloudy and 67, sunshine by noontime and by 5:00 or so watch for the rains to come rolling in. so i would get there earlier on in the day if you want to be able to check out some of that art. 58 in new port richey, tampa at 63, 59 in valrico right now, we are seeing reduced visibility all around the region, socked in completely in spring hill, under 2 miles visibility. down to about a mile in winter haven. so as you head out this morning, leave yourself a little extra time as you have to deal with that reduced visibility, fog and haze. temperatures running from the upper 50s to around 70 degrees in florida. it gets cooler as you work up into the carolinas and definitely colder as you work back across the middle of the country. we have a front lined upright about here and that's going to be moving into our area, bringing some rain later on this afternoon. watch as we put the futurecast into motion. we'll see this by noontime. by about 3:30, 4:00, watch as the showers begin to move on shore and track on across through the evening hours to the south and we get that clearing. once that happens, we'll stay on the cool side as you can see, not going to get bitterly cold but cooler air sticks around. for today call it 76, rain coming in later with winds out of the south. then checking out the seven-day forecast, you see the 60% chance of showers later on today, 30% as we clear out tomorrow. starting monday morning we'll see temperatures in the 40s in tampa bay, and we're only up to about 61. the cool weather sticks with us through the workweek as well, but the weekend, this is when we'll see the changes. sun early, rain late today, clouds early and clearing and cooler once you get through sunday afternoon. you can check out this forecast all the time any time at
