[ laughter ] -- >> after that they all came to the spin room where the light blue signs have people saying university -- >> i think both candidates had major missteps. if i had to choose a winner i would say hillary clinton came out a little stronger. >> i think donald trump lost the debate. he spent a lot of time explaining, any time in a debate when you spend a lot of time explaining your record you lose. >> reporter: sounds like momentum for hillary, two more debates to go. let's look at some statements. with the race relations from hillary. >> it's just a fact if you're a young african-american man and do you the same thing as a young white man you are more likely to be arrested, charged, convicted and incarcerated. >> politifact finds that clinton's statement is true. african-americans are more likely to be arrested and get longer sentences. americans and hispanics are "living in hell because it's so dangerous." also stop and frisk policing should be brought back. when prompted by lester holt he said law and order is needed in our inner cities. he also talked about another contentious issues, when he will release his tax returns. >> i will release my tax returns against my lawyer's wishes -- when she releases her 33,000 e-mails that have been deleted. as soon as she releases them i will release -- i will release my tax returns. [ applause ] >> trump also said he has released financial disclosures which are better than tax returns. politifact looked into that statement and found it false. politifact says tax returns would offer more valuable details on the affected tax rate and types of taxes trump pays along with how much trump donated to charity. many people in the bay area disappointment and more of the same. it was at the green iguana in ybor city. some hoped to hear more about medical marijuana. and other voters expected to see more excitement. >> i expected more fireworks. the scene by trump was a little reserved and showmanship that he likes to normally do - >> stay with us throughout the morning. we're teeming up with politifact for fact-checking statements they debate. mike pence cancelled a debate in cost but tim kaine will continue to schedule in central florida. a kickoff rally will be held in orlando. yesterday it was in lakeland and later greeted voters in a watch party in orlando. tim kaine attacked trump by saying he has a history of lying. >> they never had a candidate a guy that was in the lie that president obama want born. he will lie about anything. stay with us for continuing coverage. the vice presidential debate is a week from today in virginia. the next presidential debate set for sunday, october 9th in st. louis, missouri. you can always get 24/7 of course at abcactionnews.com. a fund for the victims of the pulse nightclub shooting massacre is set last week a law firm filed a lawsuit on behalf of an employee injured in the massacre. the suit asked for an injunction to stop money from being paid out so an audit could be done, a judge denied part of that injunction. the board for the one orlando fund said payments should, finished by friday. last june a gunman fire in u.s. history. governor rick scott is scheduled to tour the damage in the mosaic area in mulberry. mosaic fertilizer plant spilled more than 200 million gallons of slightly radioactive wastewater into the underground drinking water supply. that contaminated water was used to process fertilizer at the plant and drain through this large sinkhole. happening today -- florida representative kathleen peters and clearwater police are teeming up to highlight dangers of marijuana. prizes include $5,000 for schools, $500 for students. we expect to learn more at a news conference set for 1:30 this afternoon at crestlake park in clearwater. shay is in for ivan with a look at the forecast. looking decent. at the moment we had overnight showers and storms especially closer to the coastline in pinellas county around the palm harbor area, eastlake area. we will still continue to have a slight chance for those showers and storms closer to the coastline in the first half of the day and then moving inland throughout the afternoon. so it's a west-to-east flow today. a very low coverage of showers and storms overall and that will help us to see a nice mix of sun and clouds, plenty of heat and humidity again today and we'll be topping out near 90 degrees. i'll have the 7-day forecast coming up in a bit. the 4:38. i-275 at the sunshine skyway. not a lot of traffic out there. looks to be pretty smooth now. janelle is watching the cameras and will have a full look in 20 minutes. this morning tarpon springs police are looking for the man that inappropriately touched a child in the bathroom of a tj maxx store, and police say the man tried to take a picture of the 6-year-old during the incident. parents who shop in the area >> hearing bad things about the town which is sad but it's scary you can't let your kids come shopping with you. >> police received tips but haven't positively identified the suspect yet. you can help spread the word by sharing the suspect's picture. it's posted now on our abc action news facebook page and we'll also have a live report on the search for the suspect coming up at 5:00. 4:39. one person is recovering in stable condition after a house fire in spring hill. flames broke out in a back bedroom of the home on little farms everyone inside got out, one person suffered smoke inhalation, taken to the hospital. firefighters found a dog in the house as well. he gave it oxygen. that dog expected to be ok. cause of the fire now under investigation. here's something we will be watching today. a protest planned for 10:00 this morning against the citrus county animal shelter. animal rights advocates claim it's killing perfectly healthy dogs and cats. demonstrators plan to gather at the citrus county courthouse in inverness as county a bear rummaging through garbage in a california neighborhood charges at a man. we'll hear from the man and how it ended, after the break. a new study suggests high school students not getting enough exercise. how does it affect them later in life? >> emotional moment last night as the marlins paid tribute to this morning we hear from a california man that got a real scare when a wild bear charged at him. frank ramos saw the bear rummaging through someone's garage and he grabbed his air horn and started to record cell phone video when the bear charged at him. >> i was really not frightened but to me it was sort of like a mock charge. to scare me off or whatever. i don't know if he would have continued if i stayed here but i didn't wait. >> frank says he's seen another bear in his neighborhood several times but says the latest one was a bit bigger. new video showing police taking down a man suspected of a shooting rampage that injured nine people at a houston strip mall monday. police shot and killed that suspect in an upscale police surrounding a porsche. that car registered to a lawyer who authorities say was disgruntled with his law firm. police say they found nazi materials in his car but not confirming his identity or motive. houston police released surveillance video that shows another violent takedown, this one by an officer on a train platform from earlier this year. you can see one of the officers with his baton repeatedly hitting a man who falls to the ground. that officer has since resigned. internal revow excessive force allegations against him and recommended his termination. new data from the fbi reveals violent crime across the country is on the rise. murder rates spiked 11% higher in 2015 than the previous year. the fbi says the numbers are actually down if you look at a span of five to 10 years. information on what you can do to find the right credit card. first get a copy of your free nerd wallet says there are three types of credit cards, one that improves credit, one that helps you earn rewards and others. and don't forget to check for annual fees. save money on car insurance? a good driving record is not just all you have to worry about. a new study finds your income plays an important role. the group says more than 70% of the time companies offer lower premiums to annuity drivers with accidents that's compared to drivers with a clean driving record who earn a moderate income. the property casualty insurers corporation calls the study rigged. now employees are suing wells fargo, for california workers who were fired or demoted for refusing to open fake accounts. the bank fired 5,300 employees sales tactics. two big names may want to buy twitter. disney and microsoft are showing interest. according to bloomberg disney is working with a financial adviser to explore a bid for the social media company. meanwhile microsoft could also bid on the company in the next month or two. most financial experts expect facebook to pass on the opportunity. the senior games get underway in town n country. power lifting on tap and once again 95- will be competing. it starts this morning at the jackson springs rec center. overnight you may have noticed if you're closer to the coast in pinellas county especially a few flashes of lightning or rumble of thunder. a few storms moved on shore around tarpon springs but that's all fizzled out and we're on the dry side now. most of the morning commute i believe is going to be nice and dry. there's still a slight chance coastline but take a look because i put this in motion through 8:00 in the morning, looking pretty dry. previous model runs were showing a few isolated showers setting up along the coast. we'll keep an eye on it but at this point we're dry and by noon we'll start to see more showers and thunderstorms bubbling up closer to the i-75 corridor. all those pressing inland and getting a bit stronger as they move through the afternoon and into the early evening. and then by sunset we start to see the showers and storms tapering off. it's what we've seen lately with the west-to-east flow. here the models again showing tomorrow morning, we'll see a few of the showers setting up along the coastline. so it's very similar pattern. no big changes to the forecast just yet. continuing to watch this tropical wave moving in the direction of the lesser antilles likely to become a numbered or named storm at some point the next day or so. as we look at the spaghetti models, the reason we want to storm which may eventually become matthew is because of its general direction. it looks like a lot of the models are bringing it north as it moves over the dominican republic and haiti. then it would be out in the atlantic and stay away from our state but there's enough variation and enough time that we want to keep a close eye on it in case because of the general direction in our direction. next couple of the upper 80s to around 90. showers and storms close to the coast and inland in the afternoon. things change though, by thursday a frontal boundary comes through. check out the morning lows, saturday and sunday, low 70s. less humidity, cooler start to the day. looking pretty fabulous, a lot more like fall by our standards by the end of the week. back to you. look at traffic at 4:49. live look at i-275 near mlk, no the rest of the cameras and she has live reports starting at 5:00. the lightning play an exhibition game against carolina at amalie arena. the rays play game two of a four-game series against the white sox in chicago. tom korun with that and more in sports. good morning. the lightning signed nikita yesterday, that's kucherov still a free agent. the game tonight at amalie arena. another statement that kucherov is a big part of the team. so close to another stanley cup. now they are back for a third try and they are getting geared up to make another run. >> we're going to expect the best again this year. off strong and had a chance again to make it to the cup finals. i think we should put ourselves in position to do that again. those are our expectations right now. >> the marlins paid tribute to jose fernandez last night before their game. with the mets. all the players as you see wore fernandez' number 16 uniform. in an emotional beginning, gordon leading off with home run. gordon broke down when crossing home plate. as you saw he was immediately consoled by his teammates. quite a moment. that's your morning sports update. enjoy your day. 4:51. a suicidal man threatens to jump from the fifth floor of a parking garage at the los angeles airport. how miss used an app to talk him down. washington monument at the national mall. similar problem that happened last month. the plan contractors have to 4:54. planning on a round of golf?
