According to friends that bike belongs to her as well as some of the belongings on the picnic table. Her friends say that they are shocked about this. Friday evening lightning lit up the sky. And i just saw a flash. And then a bam. Reporter he lives half a king jr. He had no clue that one of the Lightning Strikes hit his friend. She was under the gazebo when the bolt hit her. Let alone a girl that i have known for a long time. Reporter daniel has known his friend for more than 20 years. Her name hasnt been released. He says that she liked to spend time at this park. And she lived with her family nearby, but she comes over to the park and sits and hangs out and talks to people reporter the National Weather service says that when there is thunder, lightning follows it closely. There is nowhere outside that is considered safe during a storm. Stay inside for about 30 minutes after you hear the last roar of thunder. I can feel the pain of someones loved ones that were lost here, you know, but it is nature. We have to be more vigilant of what it is when we are outside our doors. Tonights fatality the National Weather service says that lightning is responsible for killing 31 people in the united states. Seven of those people lived in florida. It has quieted down significantly here in sarasota, so the next big question is what is the weather going to look like tonight and over the weekend . Yeah marisela, we will continue to see this as it is such a tragic thing. Almost always you can hear that thunder. This is something that we say all summer so please as a reminder, were going to get several more storms before the summer winds down. You can see it at the time of the Lightning Strike. It wasnt just a single strike. There were plenty of storms rolling through. I suspect that well see more of the same tomorrow and on sunday. Then things will begin to wind down in terms of thunderstorm activity. But i think the moisture will ramp up as we Start Talking tropics. Overnight tonight the rains will be winding down with some lightning offshore as marisela tomorrow a few storms will begin to pop. Most of the action later on in the to the day. As i said still looking at some here at 11 15 at night youre still looking at Lightning Strikes for manatee and sarasota counties. Theyll continue to move west. If you looked outside, look out to the south, youll see plenty of cloudtocloud lightning for a few more hours. Other than that very heavy rain spilled across most of our area tonight. Most of it on i75 west. Theres a good reason for that. Strong easterly winds means that the sea breeze set up right along the interior section is just west of i75 where the strongest storms were. Heres some of totals. It says in the last 24 hours, but you can really say it is the last four hours. Anywhere from northern pinellas to about inch, inch and a half. In fact most of Pinellas County had an inch of a rain. Manatee hit the jackpot at two to three inches. Same thing in sarasota with a couple inches of rain. Most of Hillsborough County around downtown towards bloomingdale half an inch of rain. Then you go off to the east a smattering of isolated showers. I think that set up is pretty much the same tomorrow. The closer you are to the beach the better the chances youll see some of those storms. The day just like it was today. Temperatures have cooled off into the upper 70s to the lower 80s about where they will be when you wake up in the morning with those high humidity levels. Look at these highs today. Tied a record today in tampa, 95 degrees. 96 in sarasota. Earlier in the week they hit 99. Strong east winds keeps that sea breeze offshore, so that is why it allows that air just to heat up as it travels across the state. And you really dont get much cool air. Low 80s and across most of the area. Except down across manatee and sarasota counties. Lee county as well and areas down to the south where they still have some decent rains. Thatll be winding down shortly and the rest of the overnight hours should be quiet. Now future cast is still hinting that maybe couple ow us see this right along the coast, but maybe even eastern polk could get in on the action between 8 00 and 10 00. Then by lunchtime we would expect to see a srms breeze boundary. But all in all the coverage will be about where it was today. 30 , maybe 40 of the areas will pick up storms. Between 4 00 to 9 00 as was the case today, any of them could produce a lot of lightning between that time and gusty winds. Sunday same thing. Then all of a sudden we start saying what about the tropical air from down south . I dont think that it will bother us on sunday. South florida could see some heavier rain out of it, but for us anything that we do see will be later on monday, tuesday, and into wednesday. Now lets area of low pressure is still really not organized at all. In fact the Hurricane Center even says there is a less chance than there was earlier. Down to a 60 likelihood to develop. The bottom line is that it is meaningless. This low, whats left of it will go into the southeastern gulf with a lot of warm water and calm conditions to develop. Now whether or not it goes into the central gulf, which we dont know yet. But if it does, im telling you this thing will blow up in the central gulf with perfect ingredients for a development. Of our state, which will be tuesday or wednesday, we would get some decent rains out of it. But dont look far lot of wind. Still the jury is still out.
