and coless behind trump trump and mentioned jeb bub and marco rubio in their failed presidential bids before are speaking clearly, they want a business man outsider who will dramatically shake up the status quo in washington. trump trump has work to do to obtain enough delegates to become the republican party nominee but getting there. donald trump has 671 delegates. marco rubio earned 146 before dropping out. kasich 138. 1237 is the magic number of delegates needed to win the nomination on the democratic side, hilary clinton has more than double the amount of delegates than bernie sanders for challenger, she has 1578 he has 817. 2383 del dpats are needed to win -- delegates are needed to win the democratic nomination. joining us is steve. this comes down to delegates and math. let's start with the trump reach that number, that magic number, or are we going to see a battle in cleveland this summer. >> reporter: we will see, he put himself in a good position to get there easier than the others but not going to be totally easy. there are several states between now and june that have win or take all contests like in florida, if you win the primary, you win at all delegates, one next week in arizona. he is going to win the winner take all and continue to win big in the other states that give out the delegates proportionately and it's a harder road for ted cruz and impossible, it is impossible for kasich to get there mathematically. kasich is hoping to slow everyone enough that it is a condition tested convention that nobody gets enough delegates. >> we heard john boehner put forward the name of speaker ryan, no candidate has the right number. get to the magic number but closer and denied the nomination, there would be riots. what are we talking about as realistic possibilities? >> if he doesn't get to the magic number, then, we could see a situation where this gets hashed out on the floor of the convention. let's keep in mind, voting stops, the primaries end june 7th. a good month, month and a half where the republican party will go whether they are going with a nominee that's clinched or not. maybe they can figure out something out before that or coa less around the person around the most delegates. somebody like trump if he gets a plor alty, the person who gets the most delegates, even if not the majority should be the nominee or let it go and have chaos on the floor and figure it out out later. she is well on her way. she has a lot of problems with voters, doesn't she? >> it's interesting, if trump gets the nomination, you will have two candidates who will have, under water in terms of favorability. a lot of work to do in the general election, swaying people, they are polarizing characters and well known among the electorate. >>
