right now on news channel 8 at 6:00. a motel erupts into flames. tonight fire crews believe they know exactly what started that fire. good evening everyone. i'm rod carter. thanks for joining us this saturday night. two people had to be treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at a pasco news channel 8's jamel is joining us live with the latest on this fire. >> reporter: good evening, rod, fire officials say that the owners of this motel are very lucky the damage was only suh taned to one of the rooms. let's look at video that we shot earlier today. the firefighters say the fire started before 9:00 this morning at the belmont inn here on u.s. highway 19. fire officials say when they arrived, there were just some flames coming from one of those rooms. out. there were two victims inside of that room during the time of the fire. one person was able to escape. while the other had to be rescued. both were treated for smoke inhalation and transported to a nearby hospital. but fire officials say there was very little damage. >> they're very lucky. the hotel is actually. that it was limited to the one room. and basically just to the mattress and a pile of garbage >> fire officials say this looks to be an accident right now. the chief says that again there was very little damage that was done. and he thinks it was maybe some smoky materials that may have started the fire. but again, this is all under investigation. >> jamel, reporting live for us tonight. thank you. right now authorities are trying to figure out if the body dive teams found is the body of a missing boater. with his fiance. we're told he jumped off the boat to get it off the sand bar. he went under water and did not come back up. the body that was recovered was recovered where the boater went missing. >> this is a very tragic instance. and very sad. as investigators and officers, we just don't want to see this happen. >> officers urge you to pay boating or in the water as conditions can change and they can change suddenly. a driver who caused a fiery crash on the veterans expressway is in the hospital tonight. florida highway patrol reports 54-year-old oscar was speeding on the expressway when he collided into the back of another car. people in the second car slammed into a concrete traffic barrier. the vehicle exploded in the flames. both people died. now to a developing story tonight, the fbi and homeland long hack that targeted a company that acts as an internet switchboard. that attack cut off access to website giants like twitter, net flix, amazon, and paypal. how could so many companies go down? the answer is found in a strategic target. >> hackers aim their attack at dine, a company that acts like the address book and switchboard operator of the internet. this time security experts say the hackers deployed the latest weapon in be virus that infects millions of internet connected devices like dvr's or baby monitors, turns them into a virtual army of cyber bot slaves and uses them to send so many information requests that a system like dine overwhelmed and crashes. >> it seems crazy that a baby monitor or dvr could topple amazon or twitter. but that's happening here. an army after baby monitors can assemble enough pour to knock companies in the world. >> they're manufacturing devices with weak default passwords making them extremely vulnerable. >> the fact that companies can make hundreds of thousands of devices and put them on the internet. and have their entire product line turned into a bot net and start attacking the united states is kind of a problem. >> so far there's a lot of speculation on who is to blame. but a senior u.s. intelligence official tells nbc news this is a classic case of internet vandalism and it doesn't appear to be what is clear, a new weapon has been deployed as companies and countries try to prepare for the possibility of cyber war. now we turn to coverage of the 2016 election. police are trying to investigate a suspicious white powdery substance discovered at hillary clinton's campaign headquarters the brooklyn office was evacuated after the envelope was found. the first tests on the powder were negative for any harmful substances. today donald trump spent he unveiled his plan for his first 100 days in office if elected president. he'll push for new congressional term limits and its 40 billion-dollar aircraft carrier. the center for a new american security says that the pentagon needs to make hard decisions to stay ahead of china and russia. the cnas also urges the pentagon to buy fewer strike fighters. the pentagon responded saying the strategy is laid out in the president's budget for 2017. about 10,000 california national guard soldiers have decade after signing to serve over seas the los angeles times is reporting that the pentagon demanded that money back after audits reveal that the california guard over paid the soldiers in order to fill ranks to serve in tv service today. there have been major outages in the tampa bay area. a spokesperson told us there was a problem with a piece of hardware in their facility in the bay shore area. technicians are to low was 47 degrees. that's an old record. set back in 1898. forecast heading into the day tomorrow, chilly start, lots of sunshine will be in the mid 50s. a little milder tomorrow afternoon with highs back in the upper 70s. those temperatures still cooler 83. staying dry with no showers expected the next few days. the changes will come during the middle part of the upcoming workweek with temperatures and moisture levels slowly starting to increase. this evening, we've got that cool air above us. chilly start to the day tomorrow. high pressure in place off to our north. so you can tomorrow. lots of sunshine with a high temperature of 78 degrees. sunshine to take us through the first part of the week. and then just a minimal rain chance with the temperatures back into the mid
