do what they did in 1994 and again in 2004 when sink holes opened on the property. inject a stabilizing cement. fill the hole. the florida department of environmental protection is the lead government agency monitoring this incident. dep points out mosaic notified all the required government commissioners or the dep bothered to notify the public. >> we have some posts on our facebook page from residents who live nearby. and they are concerned about the quality of their water. what can you tell them? >> well, i can assure everyone that the water quality, you know, even on our property, is still very clean. very good water quality. >> reporter: some wonder how mosaic can capture all the contaminants now in the aquifer. david says the recovery process >> if i start to see a difference in my water, then i will become concerned. >> reporter: now, let's give you a little bit of perspective on the size of this sink hole if i may. we are going to show you an excavator up on the side of the gypsum stack here. there it is. bottom right side of the screen. fairly large piece of equipment. and now, take a look at the size of this sink hole. as you heard a little bit earlier, mosaic tells me there is no danger to the public, but if nearby residents are worried they will test the wells. >> why weren't government officials more transparent about this? why wasn't mosaic more transparent about it? >> reporter: good question. mosaic did what it had to do. it notified the dep, epa, polk county commissioners. w for 19 days by dep. and no explanation from the state about that yet. but we will be looking at that next week. >> all right, steve andrews live in eagle 8 hd tonight. thank you. around we have more breaking news in south tampa. part of the intersection of macdill avenue in barcelona street is shut down because of a depression in the road. it is a big one. this is a very large hole. dyed water which is what they do when they are trying to locate a hole. >> people see a bunch of cop cars and cones, they try to go the other direction. they don't want to deal with the hassle. i want to let people know we are open. it will be a little crazy for the next day or two. until this gets settled. i'm not sure how long it will take. >> a day or two. maybe longer. one should be lane is now open. no word on how long it will take to fully reopen the road. still, people who use macdill are having to get used to this kind of annoyance. another large pothole or depression, whatever they want to call it, closed a portion of the southbound lane near azil. it has been this bay for about a week. also, breaking tonight. tampa police just charged a 19- year-old with murder in the stray bullet shooting death of killed maria contrera. a lot of people saw the shooting but no one came forward about who fired the gun until now. and the search is an more a man pasco deputies say blew up his house trying to make marijuana oil. this happened back on september 3, but investigators first released the information just a few hours ago. we are told that steven brown and making butane hash oil when the house exploded. he grabbed his drugs and got out safely but left behind two caged dogs who died. a one-year-old inside the house at the time was not injured. deputies are not searching for brown and they believe he is armed and dangerous. new tonight, a shoplifting incident at a wal-mart led to a death after employees tackled the suspect. now, for the first time, we are 64-year-old kenneth wisham died hours after being chased by wal- mart security. he was trying to steal dvds . there is still video of the incident and we have recordings of the interviews with wal-mart employees. jamel lanee joins us live. these ploys are charged. jeff patterson? >> reporter: yeah, good evening keith, the medical exam per ruled this case a homicide because of the way kenneth wisham died here. now all the employees involved manslaughter. wal-mart security video shows 64-year-old kenneth in the aisles of the store lifting his jacket and putting things under it. as he starts to leave the store, he is confronted by wal- mart employees. now, a lakeland police interview with the employees tells us what was going on here. >> describe him for me. >> homeless looking. white male. >> reporter: customer service manager tells police she and when he ran, they chased him. nunez told police she knocked the 64-year-old over as he ran. >> the guy was fighting. he was not stopping or quitting. >> reporter: she and two other employees then held him down. >> he was fighting saying let me go. i didn't do anything. i didn't do anything. i think at one point, he did say i can't breathe. >> reporter: she even admitted to police she knows this is against store policy. >> if they run, we are supposed to >> reporter: protection manager randy tonko held him down. he is a 21 year employee and says he was trying to protect his coworkers. >> i said i don't want her to get hurt. i need to get up there as quick as i can. >> reporter: one of the employees told the police he only held the suspected hour before the actual police arrived. >> jeff patterson in lakeland with the update. thank you jeff. two businesses are cleaning up after two very destructive crashes. >> coming up, we are going to show you where vehicles came crashing through and give you a look at the damage. >> the radar is lighting up a bit more. showers and thunderstorms. if you are headed out to the football games you will want to know where the current rain activity is located. we will look at the tropics and your football forecast. >> some scary moments inside of a tampa classroom. a truck plowed right into a building. it looks like it is parked in the medical institute on watersa . four people were taken to the hospital. ten were treated at the scene. an auto parts store in port richey was nearly demolished by a speeding suv. authorities tell us that vehicle was going 60 miles an hour on u.s. 19 when it veered off and slammed into myers auto supply. two people in the suv were taken to the hospital. saint pete clearwater airport is about to go a major overhaul thanks to two new federal grants. the airport got a $753,000 grant from tsa. the money will be used to design a new checked baggage system. they also got a nearly $4 million grant from the faa. expanding and fixing the pavement and adding new lighting and signage. well, parents pay extra for their children to play sports. >> but what are they getting in return? >> reporter: johnson saw stars he knocked heads with two other players. and ever since, his mother has seen dollar signs. too many of them. on hospital bills she is still paying for. >> you inned up still owing out of pocket how much? >> maybe about $3,500. >> reporter: and you had to pay that? >> still paying it yes. >> reporter: school insurance denied cover it? >> no. >> what's wrong with that? >> i think there's a problem. >> reporter: there is a gaping exclusion for off season practice in the accident policy athlete buy. >> and if you are required to have the insurance prior to the kids stepping on the field, it should be covered for the whole school year. >> reporter: johnson didn't know kenny wasn't covered for spring training. not until the insurance company rejected her injury claim. >> when you heard that, what went through your mind? >> i'm like why do i have it? what is it for? that was a $50 i could have used on a pair of cleats or something other than just getting this insurance. >> reporter: the district supposed to cover that kind of off season school sports injury. football coaches at every hillsborough school are required to have that third party coverage in place when they use school practice fields in the spring. but, even though kenny's injury was well documented as a school incident, johnson insists no one ever told her about that second insurance policy. >> and the coach never told you hey, i have you covered on the insurance? >> no. i don't recall him saying anything about that. insurance she had to buy did not cover the injury. the coach's policy, she never knew about might have. but, she may have missed the window of opportunity for filing that claim because she didn't know about it. >> well, i don't think anybody would unless you sat down and read through the fine print. but what about the second policy the coach is supposed to have? >> reporter: a lot of mystery about that tonight. we have been asking about that for two days. dais. so far, they can't find any paper work to reflect there was a policy. but they are still trying and we are going to stay on it because at the end of the day, she paid for it. >> all right, thank you mark. >> sure. 86 degrees down the south part of sarasota county. we have a northwest wind. a lot of sunshine. it should be a nice sunset. not much in the way of rain. there's some pretty strong storms further south. half inch of rain. look at this at the lake club in lakewood ra in places like manatee county. the computer models did a good job at that. 78 degrees at veteran's ford in tampa. traffic not too bad. two tenths of an inch of rain in that spot. beautiful ennis brook up here in palm harbor. west wind at 2 miles an hour. the harvest moon occurs tonight. that is the full moon. the last full moon of summer. fall begins next thursday at 1021 mm. in florida as we were talking about earlier, it doesn't mean a whole lot. tore the time when the big cold front comes through changing things. that is usually the second or the third week of october. thunderstorms, western part of citrus county around the crystal river area. also further south. you can see developing around new port richey. there are scattered showers and thunderstorms. a few of these may develop in pinellas county as well. central parts of manatee county seeing showers and storms. central partsover polk county as well. these thunderstorms are the strongest now. just east and south of north port at the moment. othee, on the radar today. at 7:00 a.m., 77 degrees. 90 at 4:00 p.m. it is 84 in lutz. look at treasure island there. 84. still upper 80s in new port richey. 77 in weeki wachee. rain cooled numbers here. lakeland isn't. 91 degrees. 90 in winter haven. the flow east to west across the area. you can see the blowup of clouds. a few showers. convergence shower and there is tropical storm julia spinning away. sheered strong winds from the west pushing all the thunderstorms off to the eastern side so you can see that clear low level circulation. but the winds are blowing the storms off to the east. there is not a lot of moisture to work with here too. because we see the water vapor imagery looks fairly dry. tropical storm julia will continue to wonder to the north. it is not a factor for any bay area weather just sitting off the coast of the carolinas. we will keep an eye on tropical storm karl. a long way away day period. but that last forecast was a category 1 storm. as for friday night football weather, early evening, watch for the slight possibility of a scattered shower. football forecast, usf, travels to syracuse. they are playing the dome there. scattered rain possible for the games. 78 degrees. gators playing north texas. 88 degrees with lingering showers and thunderstorms for that one. around miami, they are playing appalachian. in boone, north carolina. that is much more reasonable. sfu, louisville in louisville, kentucky. ucf playing maryland in orlando. 784 degrees for that game. and florida a&m, they are playing in mobile, alabama, 81 degrees for that game. of course the bucs travel to phoenix. that is an air-conditioned dome stadium. that's the one where the field slides out and sit ins the sun. pretty cool. 40% rain chance tomorrow. saturday. 20% chance of drier air sneaking in from the north. especially the rain chances for both saturday even into monday. favor south of the bay. so if you are in sarasota or highlands county, chances are they are a little better your rain chances. fall starts next week guys. excited about that?
