All of us would say our heart goes out to anybody impacted by this. You cant imagine going through your children. Fortunately we have only had three individuals that have now. The storm knocked out power to more than 15,000 customers but crews hope to have that power restored this evening. Meanwhile, in Charlotte County today, severe storms also moved through ripping roofs off homes, knocking down trees and blowing out windows. News channel 8 shows us the damage. Reporter good evening. You can look up here, they have but behind them, the screens are gone off the screen porch. And if i move back over here, the power crews are out. And if i pan up here and look over, you can see more damage. Heres a house with part of the roof and the screen porch gone and up here, heres another one thats gone all the way through into the house and the insulation is out and about and the cars are damaged as well. Dozens of trailers were ripped apart by an ef3 twisters with winds of more than 150 miles per hour. 31 people were injured, many pulled from the rubble barely arrive. Our goal is to have it done by 2020 because at that time, Florida Department of transportation is looking at doing the 60 275 Howard Franklin interchange so we hope to be a reliever to that reporter the idea is to take regional drivers off of gandy, fun them on the overhead lanes and keep local traffic on the surface street. A typical problem spot for flooding when we have heavy rain. And today no different. Doesnt take much to cause areas. Tides were agreeable but with that amount of rain in the short amount of time, even in a little bit. 64 degrees with a northwest wind at 20 miles per hour. Northwest. You see the rainfall at that location, a little over. 50. Fairly common total. We dont have the numbers here at hula bay but you get the this location. And not yet seeing the clearing taking place. Out the palm tree, 68 degrees, 11 miles per hour. The northwest breeze kicking front. Thats going to help keep us cool and dry here, breezy certainly in the forecast for the. Skies this evening. Also parts of the roof, broken tree, the cars down here have damage as well. Well. And if i pan back up here, you can see the extent of the damage and out back is where you can see more debris and theres quite a bit of damage around here from screen porches to the trees to vehicles.
