we're told that the center lane is blocked. for the most part things are looking pretty good as we head into downtown for game two of the world series. we'll send things back >> all right, john, thank you. it's been a gloomy day around these parts but it is not going to keep cleveland indians fans from coming downtown. >> no way because they want to come down and be a part of it all. they want to have fun. news 5's jonathan walsh is out there in title tracker. so what are you seeing on the roads, my friend? >> reporter: we are tracking last night it was cavs, it was indians. tonight it's just the indians, barry, and that's why probably we're seeing fewer people out and about, but still, make no mistake about, we have a lot of people coming in for the world series tonight. this is cleveland. we are already weather tested. people have packed the patio of the clevelander bar and grill, east fourth is filled up. now about an hour before first pitch, vendors are walking the the cut that he had and the blood that we zahn toronto. but by the other hand, if they've got to pull him out the and will never have to bay another wedding gift for the rest of his life because he can regift everything he got off his registry. let's talk about the numbers when it comes to the series. the indians are leading 1-0. what does that many? 63% of the teams that win game one go on to win. should they go on to win -- the entire series, i should say. the teams that go up 2-0 win 80% of the time and then bring it down if it goes 5%. still, they're ready to play. >> i think people lose sight of the fact that you've got win four. you're not trying to prolong a series. so you try to take stock of where you are. >> what he's done this october is kind of a little bit unprecedented, but also, too, you have to kind of have the inventory to do it. you have to have a guy like andruw miller and dan otero and bryan shaw to be able to do the game is an hour earlier than expected. and as john said outside, he saw ton of cubs fans. i saw those guys last night. it was about 30% cubs fans in here last night when they started cheering let's go cubs, the indians fans just drowned them out. let's see if they can do that again tonight. back to you guys. >> all right, andy, thank you. two things here. you've got to work on that game face just a little bit, andy. the other thing we noticed, now one hour to first pitch, tarp still on you also mentioned ryan merit. it's been a heck of a couple of weeks for him whose performance in game five of the alcs is a big reason why the indians are in the world series. >> just last year he was pitching in aa akron where he tossed a no-hitter. bob jones talked with merit's former manager who is not surprised. >> reporter: before game wasn't the but it didn't take long before i realized that the fire burned within him, and's great competitor. >> reporter: if wallace had any doubts those disappeared after ryan threw a no-hitter last year. the first rubber ducks no- hitter comes on july 11th, 2015, tossed by left-hander ryan merit. >> reporter: after the 24-year- old rookie helped pitch the ryan and his fiancee by buying up their wedding registry. >> everybody is so nice so supportive. >> ryan is not one to be arrogant, even after success. >> reporter: and now ryan is on the 25-man world series indians roster. rubber ducks radio play by play guy jim clark told me ryan could give cubs batters fits. >> when he got to the big game last week, i was not stunned at all because he hit his spots, him on that big stage whatsoever. >> i know it's been a little bit of a whirlwind for him right now, and hopefully he is able to kind of put everything aside and get ready for whatever his role might be in this world series. >> reporter: in akron, bob jones, news 5. you know, it's been 68 years since the indians have been able to call themselves world champions, and it's been almost that long since the actual pennant has actually historian about this team legend. as we head to a quick break here is a look at downtown cleveland from air tracker five what. a great view of progressive field as our indians take on the cubs in game two of the world series. news 5 at 6:00, we're coming okay, the field lights are on, ground crores making last- minute preps to the field. >> here we go. first pitch now under an hour away, and news 5's john kosich is out working the crowd right now as the crowd files into progressive field. john. >> reporter: i've got to tell you the cubs may fly the indians are only ones with a w here. the crowds here on the gateway plaza may be smaller but what they look in number they make up for in enthus see. a last night was one for the books. the one-two cavs-indians punch unprecedented. fans simply wanted to come down and be around it. here you have a little bit of that as well with the world series atmosphere. gates open around 4:30. on the plaza and now the crowd without tickets beginning to fill in to watch the crowd on the big screen tvs. whether you are going inside or tour, key is dressing for football, not for baseball. live on the plaza, john kosich, news 5. >> all right, john, enjoy the game tonight. we don't need any more reminders that it's been awhile since the indians have won a world series. but you know, there is something that's been missing since the year after the tribe last won a title. >> while the the 1948 world series pennant is now a league legend, it's a story that james jerardi dug into today. james, you had to talk with the team's historian who said it hasn't been seen since after that historic win. >> reporter: i did, guys, and some people say this is the reason that it's been 68 years since the indians won a world series. tonight here's bizarre story of series pennant. no banner, no fanfare, no pennant, just a small sign, 1948, de noting this team's last world series win. it wasn't always that way. there used to be a big pennant tied to the 48 win until -- >> in '49, when they were officially out of the running to make the world series, they concocted this idea that he would have an elaborate funeral for the pennant hopes of '49. >> reporter: bill vech was the team's owner. in an attempt to make some money, he had a fap rail for the '48 series pennant. >> it would be like taking down the pennant if they don't make the playoffs. >> reporter: coaches and players dressed up as when it was dug up, it was nowhere to be found. >> it's either in a dumpster or someone has it. that's about it. it can't still be buried. >> reporter: some say potentially it's this pennant that's kept the indians from wing another world series. >> look how it looks for things that you can attribute this pain and frustration to. something like that is so memorable, and we're still talking about it today. it's an easy thing to point to and say, that was funeral, there was something to. this. >> bill verkz ch died in1986 in chicago, oddly enough, and with his death may have gone the answer as to where this pennant may be. guys, back to you. >> okay. well, we're going give our weather forecast the way we want to say it. rob has been rubbing his hands pretty consistently. >> the edge of warmth? >> yeah. >> no, we're not feeling it, mark. can you help us? >> danita and rob it could be worse. i have not uttered the phrase where squalls persist at all tonight. that's good news. >> well, yeah. >> but nature's curveball, we're going to try and swing and hit this one out of the park tonight. right now we're into this dry punch. we had that rain and sleet move through earlier. now we've just got a couple of ice light sprinkles for the time being. here they are. little hit and miss brief little things there so that's going the start of the ball game. now, i'm going try and bring us hopefully an hour and a half to two hours of just a sprinkle or two. but then we've got watch for all of this rain back hear. it is going to ride eastward. my hope is that it stays just offshore and allows the rest of the ball game to get through virtually dry. but the problem will be, after 9:00 p.m., here we go, notice the showers try and griz downtown cleveland toward and off for the later innings, and will it be enough to stop play? hopefully not. all right. but i cannot -- i just don't think you are going to stay dry for four straight hours of baseball tonight. i really don't. 45 cleveland by 11:30. so we actually see temperatures going up a degree or two there where they are now. it's 44 downtown and at hopkins and in akron. it's 39 on the thermometer currently in mentor. i hate having to windchill factor but windchills during the ball game will range between 37 and 40 degrees, the feels-like temperature. wow. 44 downtown, winds are out of the south and east at 4 miles per hour, dew point at 34. and the pressure, 30.30. 48 is the high today. look where we should be at 59. nowhere near that. rainfall, just .02. here's the front coming through. believe it or not it's warmer behind the cold front. tomorrow is going to be warmer than it is today. we should dry out for the most part during the afternoon with agent sun by late, then the high builds in for your friday which should be a nice weather day. near 70 on saturday. wow. 44 overnight, showers likely. hopefully after the ball game, but we will include a sprinkle or a light rain shower for tonight's game two of the world series. fingers are crossed here. 58 tomorrow, a rainy start for the morning commute into midmorning, then an isolated sprinkle during the afternoon. 43 57 tomorrow with morning rain staying breezy. seven-day, friday night 59, near 70 saturday with an isolated late day shower. a few showers scattered around on sunday. 58. halloween, mid-60s. a good night for trick or welcome back for sports. we're getting ready for game we're dry inside because we're done getting wet. we bring in the pride of shaker heights, chris rose from mlb. >> right here. i actually took kevin millar out to university school today so we went on a tour. we ever going to have that on intentional talk coming your way thursday. >> that a letterman jacket? >> it is. i finally earned a letterman's jacket. i wasn't good enough to do anything in high school so i >> they did. it was very nice. i think they had an extra one in the closet and needed to get rid of it. >> i had to earn my keep. so now that the indians helped bring me back home for games one and two of the world series, thank you. >> let's talk about the series because we can't mess around about university school all day long. what did you think of last night? >> awesome. some people felt like it was a must win with kluber on the mound. i didn't necessarily feel that i thought francona's mantra in the previous round against toronto, it's not which four you win, it's that you win four. people are worried, miller threw 46 pitches, is he going to be available? 103 wins, they had it going against the dodgers. this is not going to be a four or five-game series, it's just not. you have been following this team. by the way you didn't pick the indians. explain that in a second. but you have been following the team all year long. why do you think everyone is so indians? no superstars? >> lindor is on his way, and if he played in a bigger market he would be, beck's got it all. but if you look at it, it's just really dependable guys that when they come together understand roles, check their egos at the door, that's so exemplified by the bullpen. >> why didn't you pick the indians? >> in the first round i picked the red sox. who won that series? >> the indians. >> n c l s who won that? so i decided to keep going. if you ever watch intentional talk, i'm talking two or three people out there, then you understand why i do this stuff because i am terrible at making predictions, in addition to a whole bunch of other stuff. >> chris, thank you very much. thanks for make cleveland proud. >> can you do something about the weather now? >> we're all about that. mark, tell us right now about the weather. >> let's go, clean it up, clear the skies, pal. we have a few words. i got something to say to mark johnson when i get back to the studio. >> who you got in game two? >> i'm going for the "windians." >> we'll see i tonight at
