incredible moment. >> the cleveland city is on a roll. talk about ending a drought with some style. we are going all out to bring you live team coverage of the spirit, enthusiasm and pure jubilation in our amazing city today. at the center of it all, newschannel5 anchors rob powers and janessa webb. guys, i can see the q and pr corner of the cleveland sport's fan paradise as we get ready for the big night tonight. even though the monster's won a championship the cavs ended the cleveland sport's championship drought. the stakes are still so high for the indians. >> yes. the last time they won was 1948. we made it this far in 1954, 1995 and 1997 and lost the tonight is the fourth attempt at yet another title, almost a major hick-up. the indians hall-of-famer kenny lofton was invited to throw out the first pitch tonight ahead of game one. he was a member of the 1995 alcs championship team. he ended up on standby for his red eye flight to cleveland last night. a marble head ohio man posted on twitter his neighbor gave up the trip. this is what i love. here he is, here at the airport. that is right. the neighbor is already calling for him for series tickets. i am telling you, this is great! the action tonight doesn't really begin for another couple of hour, but you know, this is pretty much being treated like a cleveland holiday. i hope a of you went to work today. people are already packing what this is all about. that is cleveland. >> those are the tribes fans. we call it cleveland christmas, october 25th. john kosich on the streets, mingling with the fans and waiting for title tuesday to really get going. john? >> reporter: the excitement downtown is at a level i haven't seen at some time. the bad news for you, when i get excited i rime. this is a day -- rhyme. this is tent. the cubs and indians without a world series title so for many it is vital. to the bosses and teachers of cleveland, i am warning you now, make sure this week you will vow to follow the festivities that will market our productivity. our eyes will be red, our voices all horse, but we are playing passionate roles to a second world title of 2016. coffee. our founder said pity the teams that oppose us. the chicago faithful are supporting their cub's hat, blue and white. we say welcome. we are that kind of town. you will leave with great memory, but with warned, you won't leigh with a crown. john kosich, newschannel5 all right. i have to follow that. are you serious? rar. >> reporter: that is right, rob. today we are seeing $100 parking in the city of cleveland. in 1997 jaws were dropping at $10 to $20 but in our 19 year history cleveland fans say our sports are worth it. the lots have jumped. >> reporter: then and now. >> we have a $50 parking spot pretty close. >> reporter: $50, when it looks cheap it is a pretty crazy day. >> reporter: in 19 years the sticker shock has changed a bit. >> that is right. >> reporter: but that one thing has changed the same, cleveland sport's fans. our archive video. >> it is a long time. >> reporter: capturing the same attitude we encountered >> it is good just to be in the parking lot. it is worth it. >> this place will explode again. >> it is the biggest night in the history of cleveland. it really is. >> reporter: we checked out parking across the city. we found lots with $40 to $100 fees. fans are paying the price and all of them are telling me pricing parking is the last thing that will keep them out of downtown cleveland tonight. huge energy here. buduson. >> you can see -- tera blake. >> you can see them everywhere. thank you. new at 5:00. our 52-year-old world championship drought was officially broken by the cavaliers, the monster, steve fay, earlier this year. >> 108 years for the chicago cubs. 68 years for the indians. >> in the 1948 world series, it is all over, the cleveland indians win. >> reporter: that is how long two teams have won a world series title. >> it would be the coolest world series to be a part of. >> reporter: some acknowledge the history. >> the cubs have, you know, a lot of history. we have a lot of history. it is just, the big things are the droughts. being able to win a world series. so, that is why i wanted to be here. >> reporter: others don't really care. >> i think that stuff is for fans. i don't feel responsible for that was his fault. >> reporter: what everyone the does agree on is the atmosphere tonight will be amazing. >> all people talked about locally is how great the parade was for the basketball championship. we are all aware of how this city would react. i think we are seeing it already. everybody is very excited. >> reporter: with game one steadily approaching, two teams are going to battle, but only one will see it rain. there and play the game the right way, as a team, as we have done, we can win a game tonight. >> we just want to win a world series. it doesn't matter who we are playing. >> reporter: history aside, many people are calling the indians the underdogs. the players telling me they are confident in themselves and each other and they are not listening to any of the noise as game one steadily approaches. reporting live from downtown cleveland, lauren jones, newschannel5. >> reporter: well, this year the indians aren't the only team with a decade long drought. rob, you know something about this. >> yes. on the other side the cubs haven't won a world series title in 108 years. the indians fans are hoping to keep that curse going for the cubs. a triumph fan brought a goat down to pregnantive field. legend has it during is 1945 owner of the wrigley field, tavern took his goat to a world series game, a cub's game. fans complained about the smell. the tavern owner was kicked out of the ballpark and so was the goat. he left saying the cubs ain't going to win no more. the ones never made it back to the world series again until today. >> we wanted to bring the goats down to kind of rub the goat in the cub's face as little bit and remind them the curse is alive and the world series in 1908. >> rob, say it again, how did he say it? so here we go. 51 right now at progressive field and the q. we will drop you into the 40s as we head through the ballgame. we will stay dry but the chill is on. bundle up if you are going to a watch party or to the ball game. back to the studio with frank and lee. >> it is much warmer in here. we have a lot more tuesday title coverage ahead at 5:00. >> and a trip through the next, our leon bibb speaks with the only surviving member of the last indians championship team from 1948. >> and another blast from the past. from our john kosich today, he has what may be the very last autograph ever given by the great satchel paige, a pitcher from the 1948 team. >> and we haven't forgotten the current champion. if you thought you knew the cavs, we are here to let you know you don't know nothing. live in eagle and ontario with the store of how he thinks of the indians and how he thinks the team will do. >> well i tell you eddie robinson of the 1948 team was part of the do-okay, well, do better than okay team of 1948. eddie robinson hit 254 this year, 16 home runs and 83 rbi. good glove man, too. i tell you that. down' we reminisced about the 1948 champion indians. it had to be wonderful winning it all. the cleveland ball players celebrated the season, winning cleveland's last world series championship, 1948. the boys of summer took it all the way into the fall. long retired now and living in texas, first baseman eddie ron inson remembers with a smile his indians team of '48. >> it was a memorable year. so that year. we were up, we were down, but we prevailed and we had good leadership. we had our senior citizens on the team. >> reporter: a nod to the older veteran players. eddie robinson has long had senior status himself. he is the last surviving february of the four year indians. was a wonderful guy, he was a great promoter. >> reporter: in a one game american league play-off to break the tie for first place, the indians beat the boston red sox, moving on to tangle with the boston braves in the series. in six games the indians claimed it all. winning in boston. so the clevelanders train ride home was a ruckus party on the rails. >> we had the club car and the diner. the champagne was dripping from the ceiling. >> reporter: when the train pulled into the cleveland union terminal, the railroad station and all of cleveland turned out to welcome home the 1948 world series champions cleveland indians. two days later they had a big parade in downtown cleveland. they rolled in in the convertible cars. the city said thank you for bringing us the world series victory. to do it, in 1948, cleveland the center of the universe. this year could be a duplicate of what the indians did before, win it all. eddie robinson is rooting for the indians, the hope for another championship in cleveland. we know the way, we have done it before, back in '48. yes, that is the way we were. [ laughing ] i want you to know this year marks the sixth appearance for the indians in the world series. we won in give me the ball. those were years we won big. we had good hitting, good clutching, good pitching, we had it all and we had good base running. i think we can do it again. this is leon bibb reminding you of what we did in 1948 when we threw the fastball. >> that is right. leon bibb, setting the tone for tonight and the rest of the series. >> absolutely. >> reporter: there is a fine line between brave and stupid! we are trying to make our way downtown. people are here near east 4th and huron. the streets are lined with fans. you can see it right now in front of you. the cops are all over the place. the bars are they are packed even outside in this chilly weather. this is plenty of traffic here. people are trying to park. we are right by the at&t road show. there is music playing, horns honking, people crossing right where they shouldn't be in front of the title tracker! go, tribes! we are ready for a victory tonight of the let's do this cleveland, all in-believe- back to you. all right. the indians and cubs are dealing with a decades long world series drought, but the similarities go a lot further than that. >> plus, a 24-year-old pitcher credited with taking the indians to the series. he was not the only player that helped spur the team to victory. we will hear from one of the tribe's older players about how the newbies are keeping him right now it is pretty much christmas in cleveland with airtracker5 downtown with a birthday's eye view of the q where the cavs are about to get their rings in 90 minutes or so and the indians will host their first pitch at 8:08. we have the cleveland city flying high on two world titles with the monsters and the cavs. the feeling we are getting this year is hope. the indians have one of the longest major league droughts in all of baseball but there aren't many clevelanders that don't believe this is the year the indians go all the way. we have live at carnegie and ontario, right in the middle of the action. what a great time to live in cleveland. >> reporter: it is an incredible time, frank and lee, to be here. lots of energy downtown. the indians are four more wins away from a triple title year for us here in guess what, we believe! >> we are not in the minority, either. we are the majority, at least here in cleveland. but to get to the title the tribes players will be going head-to-head with friends on the other side of the diamond right now, at least former classmates and teammates. let's start with former team jon lester who helped the red sox win the world series in the our 1st baseman mike napoli. jason kipness is from chicago. and trevor power and mike montgomery played on the first high school team, the team nicknamed the indians. >> interesting. >> it doesn't end there. there will be plenty of story lines as we get ready for game one of the world series, the indians against the cubs. stories like base running. >> and the indians are one baseball this year. that is a fact. and it was an old guy leading the way for our tribe, hakeem, in it to win it dernis, joining us live from progressive field with that story. >> reporter: i love it. you mentioned jon lester. he really struggles to keep runners on first base. the cubs gave up the second most steals in all of baseball. the indians had the most steals in the american league, led by he just turned 36, are jay davis.-- are shea davis. rajai davis was having fun when he swiped 43 bags this year, the most in the american league. >> it looks like i will have bragging rights with all the young guys in the american league, i will have the bragging rights so i will brag about it a little bit. no, i am land fall i am i am thankful a -- i am thankful that i am healthy. i learned a lot in the course of ten years in the major leagues. >> reporter: he manufacturers runs on the base paths, creating mustang problems for opposing pitch -- creating major problems for opposing pitchers, reading a pitcher's pickoff move and timing the delivery to home plate. his knowledge and instincts give him an edge, ultimately giving him the green light. consider this, c elite base running team, thanks to the old guy with speed. >> he don't run like a 35-year- old. sometimes i feel 35 with how fast he is. >> he can disrupt a game and he does it very well. he has done it all year. hopefully he has another couple weeks in him. >> i love me some rajai davis, one of the fan favorites here. another benefit of having rajai sometimes the pitcher will throw a pitch right down the middle of the plate, leading to a home run. we hope to see it more here in the world series after the post season. back to you. >> all right. thank you, hakeem. let's tack about what is happening across the street from progressive field. the reigning cavs begin their quest to three-peat. can they do it? >> it will be a big night. the guys will get their rings, they will hang their banner. there is an open spot in the ceiling where they are getting set to hang the championship banner for the cavs. energy. the question is can the cavs repeat? we have more. is this team better today than they were when they walked off the floor against the warriors? >> i think you can make the argument because of continuity of the whole group. yes, they are missing him, but having everyone together and the stability of the organization. the organization has not had a lot of stability for a few years. bringing everywhere back will make them better. >> they are contract friendly, even lebron signing up for two more years, if not three. >> yes. he is upbeat in terms of on court shooting. he will spread the perimeter. he is good at that. >> reporter: the shortest off season in cavs shift history. did you have any fun?
