The week wrapped with president obamas visit to cleveland on friday for a modernday whistle stop at burke lakefront making a pitch for Hillary Clinton. In a week dominated by the news of Donald Trumps words and alleged actions towards women. The strongest speech on the subject was not the president s but the first ladys. It was not just a lewd conversation. This was not just locker room banter. This was a poweul speaking freely and openly about sexually predatory behavior. Reporter donald trump for his part vehemently denies each and every allegation that surfaced against him and fired back at his accusers. These people are horrible people. They are horrible, horrible liars. And interestingly, it happens to appear 26 days before our very important election. Isnt that amazing . But were now down to 23 days before the election and started on wednesday and we were there at the post office when the first of the 180,000 absentee ballots from Cuyahoga County were mailed out. Interestingly enough by friday morning 2,300 hundred of them already filled out and returned. Early voting this year is a week shorter than 2012 and the interest to start we found is lower. Outside of the Cuyahoga County board of elections volunteers from various campaigns wait for those arriving to cast ballots early in person. Actor kal penn among them clinton and early voting. Work cut out for him as a member of the universitys engagement election team. Planning to vote in november . I think so. Reporter a new poll shows less than half of voters ages 18 to 34 will cast a ballot for clinton or trump. I dont like either of them. That seems to be the prevailing thing, particularly me lynnials. Reporter he says its because the top pick, Bernie Sanders is no longer an option among young people. Its easy to say well, i lost the game and syningly flip the the board ross seits rare to find students on campus excited about either president ial pick. They see a Hillary Clinton who they assume could be everything that is wrong with the political system. Then the other side, their only other choice is donald trump who they feel is everything that is wrong with people. Reporter right now ross is reminding his fellow millennials on the importance of exercising their right to vote but says even that can be a tough sell based on the divide weve seen in 2016. Polarization, that its happened is in my opinion likely to lead to darker days. Reporter the white house not the only thing up for grabs this year, the u. S. Senate is as well. And here in ohio incumbent republican rob portman Still Holding a lead over democratic challenger ted strickland. On friday they went headto head in youngstown. Took the rainy day found from 1 billion to 89 cents and of those jobs that left ohio . Nine out of 10 of them went to other states. We did lose a lot of jobs, more than some states because of the nature of our economy. Were heavily manufacturing state. And as i pointed out earlier, nafta and cafta and the job killing trade deals had a particular detrimental benefit month our state. Portmans support and endorsement of donald trump following his open mic comments released last week. For me it was the final straw. I took the extraordinary step of saying i could not support my nominee, republican nominee for president of the United States. He was too ashamed of him to stand on a platform with him. But continued to say i think you should be the president of the United States of america. What kind of twisted logic or twisted value system would lead of i dont know i dont what to call it.
