the deputy' s body camera suggests derrick price was resisting, but blair immediately suspended all five. chris blair: i was saddened by it, i was upset by it, i can just tell you i did not leave that desk from where i viewed that video. i immediately made a contact with the florida department of law enforcement, that' s how strong i felt that they were way outside the line. dave: the feds got involved, determined there was no resisting arrest. four deputies quit jesse terell , was fired. cody hoppel, adam crawford, james amidei, and travor fitzgerald have already pleaded guilty in federal court, for civil rights violations. blair says this was out of the ordinary. chris blair: there' s no s office. this is an isolated incident. dave: sheriff blair says he' s always felt his deputies understood the line between right and wrong, but he' s added more civil rights training to be certain. chris blair: it' s an unfortunate incident and we all know it was , wrong. dave: we reached out to direct price. -- derrick price, - his attorney released a statement saying in part, - mr. price is satisfied with the efforts of the federal government to address the law enforcement conduct depicted on the video footage. they ask the public to peacefully await the outcome of the cases against the former deputies in federal court. in marion county, dave mcdaniel, wesh 2 news. meredith: the criminal case against derrick price that led to the drug related warrant in is still pending. 2014stewart: new at 6:00 we are , seeing the tape and hearing the 911 calls made after a sunrail train hit a car on the tracks in seminole county. take a look, you can see the headlights of the car on the tracks ahead of the train at night. it appears that the train tries to slow down, but before it can that' s when witnesses started calling 911. 911, do you need police, fire, or medical? i' m sitting here at orange blvd by the tracks, by the sanford and there' s a car in the railroad tracks and a train just hit it. stewart: the train was empty at the time, and no one in the car, which suffered minor damage, was hurt. new information tonight in a murder at a dry cleaners in lake mary. police have released new evidence in the case. these are the zip ties police say andre luciano used to tie up the victim back in september at lake mary dry cleaning. we' re also getting a look at from inside the building, from the crime scene. police say luciano killed jenny dang after being told he couldn' t use the bathroom. he pled not guilty. name zenaida gonzalez she is the woman who sued casey anthony for defamation and lost. well now she' s found herself , behind bars. tonight, we have new surveillance video that detectives say shows gonzalez on patient' s stolen credit card. she and her boyfriend are now wesh 2' s bob kealing asked gonzalez about these allegations. bob: surveillance videos appear to show zenaida gonzalez walking out of home depot bags in hand, and grinning once more as she had into a walmart. -- head into a walmart. together detectives say gonzalez and her longtime boyfriend , 26-year-old jonattan acevedo, charged up to $850 worth of merchandise on a 64-year-old cancer patient' s credit card. twis: it appears as if it was over several days from december 11. say the to stall from the cancer patient while they were living at this motel and also cleaning rooms a reminder to secure your valuables and keep them out of site. gunman shot by a homeowner in a gun battle was sternly warned by a judge to name his accomplice today. 19-year-old joshua lamb was shot by a homeowner as he tried to burglarize the man' s palm bay home. an innocent woman was permanently disfigured by one of the bullets. now it' s time for lamb to be sentenced. but what sentenced to you think that that judge should give the young man? judge charles crawford suggested it would go easier for lamb if he named his accomplice. charles crawford: if you have any hope whatsoever of staying out of prison for the rest of your natural life, now' s the time to talk. stewart: lamb named the accomplice and told the whole story. the judge will decide in march if he' ll have to go to prison, or if he can go home on probation with his mother, who has volunteered to give him round-the-clock care. a security guard at a disney hotel has been arrested and charged, after orange county deputies say they caught him during a theft sting. edward cespedes was arrested yesterday. the undercover operation was held at the wyndham lake buena vista. deputies say they caught him taking $500 they had left in a wallet on a nightstand in a the sting was prompted by a recent wave of similar thefts at the hotel. cespedes has not been charged in those crimes. meredith: 46 people, previously living on the street in downtown daytona beach, are now sheltered at the salvation army and the additional beds. t seemed to put a dent in the problem of homeless camped in front of an administration building since december. city leaders promised to find beds for 100 homeless here, but the crowd seems to grow every day. salvation army workers say while doing interviews to place people, they found some who may not belong in the mix. >> we did notice that a lot of the folks for whatever reason did not actually, were not even eligible for any homeless service. >> there are people there who are not legitimately homeless ? >> that is what is suspected. meredith: homeless advocates though say additional homeless may only now be coming forward because of all the media attention to the problem. stewart: tonight troopers are investigating a deadly accident on interstate 95. in the crash in the southbound lanes in ormond beach this afternoon. several vehicles were involved in the accident, but we haven' t heard about any injuries. no word on the cause of the crash, but we' ll update you as we learn more. and a nasty wreck at the fairbanks curve slowed some people down on i-4 this afternoon. it happened just before 2:00 in the westbound lanes. traffic quickly backed up to state road 414, as the left 2 lanes were blocked. right now there' s no word on any injuries or how it happened. meredith: a port orange man will spend 25 years in prison for attacking a 12-year-old girl on the silver sands middle school campus. 29-year-old jayzel hendrieth, seen here after his arrest in august, pleaded no contest to kidnapping, attempted sexual battery, and child abuse charges. after his prison sentence, he' ll have to spend 20 years on sex offender probation. hendrieth, whose family says has mental health issues, followed the child onto campus, grabbed her, and threw her to the ground. hendrieth tried to sexually batter the victim, but a custodian interrupted the attack. stewart: the world health organization has sounded the alarm about the rapid spread of the zika virus in over 20 health officials say it' s only a matter of time before it spreads to the u.s. there have been more than 20 confirmed cases in the u.s., three of them in florida, but they have all been among international travelers. the medical director for infectious diseases at arnold palmer hospital says at this point here in central florida, the concern would be for pregnant women traveling to the countries where there are outbreaks. >> women who are pregnant or might be wishing to become pregnant should try to avoid as much as possible travel to these areas where there' s an high incidence. stewart: zika can be passed to an unborn child through an infected mother and is believed to cause a brain defect. meredith: a scary situation for some residents of an orange county apartment complex this morning. six people got sick from carbon monoxide at the walden palms condos in orlando. the city' s fire department responded. crews tell wesh 2 it all started when a family of four went woke up feeling sick, and went to the hospital on their own. it was discovered that a construction crew left a generator in an empty unit running, when they left for the day. the rooms were ventilated and to return. code enforcement will now be investigating. stewart: tonight some orlando business owners say they' re tired of being a prime target for graffiti artists. shops and stores in the mills and state road 50 area have been hit repeatedly by the so called taggers, up to 40 times in the last few months. the owners say they are tagged out. >> we love our murals. and we wish these taggers loved art the way we love art, because we don' t like what they are doing. stewart: the cost to remove the graffiti is running into the thousands of dollars. last november, orlando police arrested two men for earlier work in the area. they now believe they are dealing with two new taggers. wesh 2 news continues to investigate the problems their prescription pain killers. ve learned that the state of florida has joined the fight with the feds over which meds are most effective in treating chronic couple of minutes. controversial guidelines advising doctors to stop prescribing certain pain medication continue to raise questions from medical professionals and patients. stewart: yeah the centers for , disease control is evaluating its recommendations to doctors treat chronic pain. but as wesh 2 news investigates matt grant learned today, the new recommendations could easily become reality. matt: the cdc says these new guidelines would cut down on the amount of opioids in circulation, and heard testimony ve lost loved ones to overdose and addiction. but legitimate pain patients tell us the guidelines will prevent them from getting the medication that they need just to function. [speaking foreign language] matt: dr. julie fernandez has been treating central florida patients for more than 15 years. she' s seen firsthand the benefits of powerful pain meds, known as opioids. do you think it is helpful for patients with long-term chronic pain? >> yeah, i do. matt: but the centers for disease control isn' t so sure. earlier this month, the director of the cdc said the benefits of opioids for treating chronic pain are "unproven and uncertain," a statement that has angered many pain patients and confused others. >> i can' t say it is unproven the pain. matt: dr. fernandez says she' s medication when other forms of treatment, like injections and t work. in a conference call thursday, cdc officials again said there is insufficient evidence that opioids are effective in treating chronic pain. those who suffer from chronic pain and are prescribed opioids for it disagree. >> if it comes to a point where they take away my pain meds, i won' t be here no more. i will be one of the suicides. matt: the cdc has drafted 12 guidelines encouraging doctors to prescribe less pain medications, citing a nationwide overdose and abuse epidemic. dr. fernandez supports the guidelines as do 36 attorneys general including pam bondi. in a letter to the cdc, she says to reduce these deaths we must provide clear guidance for prescribers to assess the appropriate balance between the potential harms and benefits of attorney general pam bondi actually improve access to pain it. you can read the guidelines for yourself, along with her letter to the cdc, on our website at wesh.com. meredith? meredith: thank you. the opportunity for floridians to make medical marijuana legal is back. it will be amendment 2 on the november ballot. in a crowded news conference this afternoon attorney and , advocate john morgan announced he' s got the 693,00 signatures necessary. a similar amendment almost got enough votes almost two years ago, but it failed. morgan says the wording on this version is more specific about how it will work and who can get it. and expects much less opposition even from law enforcement. , john morgan: we are really talking about, for the most part, illnesses and injuries where people are fighting for their lives. meredith: the amendment will need 60% of the vote to pass. stewart: today marks 30 years since the entire crew of the shuttle, this space shuttle was moments after lift-off at cape canaveral. today a memorial was held at the kennedy space center to honor the lives of the space shuttle challenger. that includes school teacher, christa mcauliffe, and the mission' s commanding officer, dick scobee, a veteran of the u.s. air force. today, scobee' s widow spoke to wesh 2 about him and the challenger mission. dr. june scobee said her husband stressed the danger of space travel to his entire crew. he apparently wanted them to know that the possibility of never returning to earth, was real. >> he felt responsible for all the ten finalists in the teacher selection, and chose himself to fly to washington dc to meet with them. to tell them that it wasn' t just a commercial flight. that it was a real experience of a test vehicle that they were going to fly, and that any of them could back out now if they wanted to. stewart: mcauliffe' s backup, barbara morgan, eventually became a full-time astronaut, and completed
