s department has worked 75 heroin over dose cases that resulted in eight deaths. one official told us the alleged drug dealers clearly have the skills to operate a legitimate business. michelle meredith, wesh 2 news. angela: an ohio pharrell board has decided to separate a man who is captured 62 years escaping from prison. he had run off from the shawshank prison in ohio 1959. he had been held for running over and killing a man. he was re-imprisoned last may. jim: we are learning more information about an i-4 worker who was killed while on the job yesterday. angela: it happened just before noon in a construction area near i-4 and the maitland boulevard exit. wesh 2' s amanda ober is live. amanda, this man had a dump truck back over him? amanda: that is what happened who was killed was a father of three children and that he was only on this job about a month, a job he was very excited to have. meantime you may have noticed there has been no activity at any of the i-4 construction site today. the company overseeing the project halting all work until the safety procedures are reviewed. sgl constructors halted all work along i-4 thursday after one its employees, 34-year-old marvin franklin, was killed when a dump truck backed over him. >> if we can we will prevent , this from happening again, we will. amanda: the accident happened late wednesday morning in a construction zone between lee road and maitland boulevard. family members of the victim tell wesh two news franklin was a father of 3 children ages 10 to 15 and had only been on the i-4 job about a month. sgl says its workers were offered grief counseling. take thursday off with pay. supervisors and salaried workers still reported, but with a different focus. >> we need to stop for the moment, take a look at our safety protocals, refocus our work plans, our access, see if we' ve got any issues out on the project. amanda: sgl says it will do a thorough review of all of its safety procedures and i-4 work may resume friday, or possibly not until next week. the florida highway patrol is investigating the accident and says the backup warning beeper on the dump truck was sounding when it backed over franklin. other details of what lead to the tragedy are being investigated by both fhp and osha. sgl constructors is overseeing all 21 miles of ultimate i-4. they tell me that this current week, will not impact the deadline of the completion, which is five years from now, 2021. angela: thank you. our coverage of the i-4 accident continues in about 10 minutes here on wesh 2 news at 5:00. we' ve uncovered new documents, showing the fines the company involved has faced in the past. jim: right now the search for a missing boater near mount dora continues. 76-year-old william robl disappeared while boating on lake beauclair yesterday. his fishing boat was spotted from shore, empty and spinning in circles. it was spotted after a line of severe weather rolled through. dive teams started searching the lake yesterday morning. right now a sanford couple is charged with child neglect. police say a child in their care got a hold of a gun and shot herself. 22-year-old devolia sims and 26-year-old aaron davis are facing charges of child neglect and improper storage of a firearm. police say the child was left unattended in this converted garage late tuesday when the shooting happened. a follow-up investigation found out in the open. >> if you own any type of firearm, you need to follow protocol and have it secure, cannot have access to it. jim: that child is expected to be ok. she has since been removed from the home. angela: we' re learning new information about a robbery, chase, and crash in seminole county. chopper 2 was over the scene yesterday around 5:30. the crash ended in lake mary, but the robbery that started this whole mess happened a few miles down the road in altamonte springs. wesh 2' s dave mcdaniel is live with new information about how this all played out. dave: that is right, the guy was robbed in altamonte springs, robbed of his cell phone and wallet, even his shoes. as they started to flee, going to lake mary on i-4, deputies got behind him. they came to a screeching halt right in here. for guys bailed out, two were >> someone just robbed him. dave: wednesday was not a normal day at cap' s barbershop in altamonte springs. a guy walking in barefoot, saying somebody ripped him off, even his shoes. maggie cummings: he wasn' t harmed, but he was in shock, you could tell he was shocked. >> they put a gun in his face. dave: he told her what he went through. maggie cummings: they had the gun to his head, and forced him into the car, then they threw him out of the car pretty much. dave: police put out the word to look for the gold lexus as it headed for the interstate. deputies got behind it, then the driver of this blue pickup experienced the unthinkable. >> i guess the assailants threw a pistol out of the car window and it smashed through the back window of mine and it landed in the back of my car. robert pelton: that driver calls in saying there' s been some type of explosion, for lack of a better term, inside that vehicle. he looks in the back seat and there' s the firearm. dave: the gun is now in evidence. judge: robbery with a firearm, and kidnapping. dave: rafael caballero was lexus was left, doors open. tyron miller was arrested hours later. the search continues for two others. this lexus belongs to this man in orlando. ernest ward: stuck a pistol in my face, told me to get out. dave: he says he was carjacked in rosemont, very early wednesday morning. orlando police confirm the lexus chased to lake mary is the same car. there' s more investigation to come. both victims are still in the seminole county jail being held without bond. accusations of armed robbery and kidnapping. one is the man that grabbed him and pulled him into the car. he says he was not even in altamonte springs. the search continues for two suspects. their identities have not been released. dave mcdaniel, wesh 2 news. angela: thank you. a seminole county school employee has been arrested for shoplifting. police say erica pooler was arrested tuesday night at a kohls near oviedo. pooler is the director of the seminole county public schools alternative placement. an arrest report alleges pooler and her niece tried to make off with more than $850 worth of merchandise. a store security guard caught her in the act. she was booked into jail. she' s now out on bond. jim: right now across florida, clean up continues following a direct hit from an angry line of severe weather this week. in port charlotte, a 45 minute drive south of tampa several homes were damaged in strong winds and pounding rain. this is drone footage, taken of the aftermath. cars windows were smashed and trees sent falling down. the good news though no injuries , were reported. the man charged with vandalizing a titusville mosque earlier this year will now face hate crime charges. take a look at michael wolfe. police say he broke into the building, smashed lights and windows, and threw bacon on the front steps. wesh 2' s dan billow was there today as wolfe faced a judge. released a statement saying this is clearly hate motivated. imam: we know we are a target. dan: and now, prosecutors are confirming they believe the small mosque on us-1 in titusville is a target because of religious bigotry. >> you are charged with third-degree felony of criminal justice to a place of worship. dan: prosecutors say 35-year-old michael wolfe broke into the mosque on new year' s eve. they say he carried a machete, hacking at windows and other property as he went through the building. the former state prison inmate was arrested days later. as a calling card, police said wolfe left a slab of bacon, offensive to muslims. imam: we get hate mail from all over. we get a lot of e-mails, facebook posts, people openly threaten us. dan: this month, prosecutors decided to add a hate crime enhancement to wolfe' s charges. prison. state attorney phil archer, wolfe' s case, said our charging decisions confirm how seriously we take crimes of this nature. a crime is clearly hate motivated, it will not be tolerated. imam: this is a place of worship , that is a place for neighbors to come together to help the needy, the poor. dan: wolfe is charged with armed burglary of a structure and criminal mischief in a place of worship. dan billow, wesh 2 news. angela: to orange county, where right now two men who police say stole a car this morning are still on the run. it happened outside a circle-k on bonneville drive around 3:00 a.m. we' re told a dodge charger was taken. investigators say one of the men was riding as a passenger in the car before he helped steal it. the woman who was driving was not seriously hurt. jim: one person is killed in ocala after an early morning collision between a motorcycle and a car. it happened just before 7:30 on north east jacksonville road and north east 28th street. firefighters tell wesh 2 news the motorcycle hit a kia soul. the road had to be closed for a short time. so far, no word what caused the crash. angela: police say gambling may have been at the center of a night. it happened around 11:00 on king cole boulevard. two people were hurt. police say both were shot several times, but are expected to recover. several cars were also riddled with bullets. police say witnesses are not cooperating with the investigation. jim: two men charged in connection to a violent crime spree across orange county will be held on no bond. police say 24-year-old nathaniel woods was involved in a rash of armed robberies in the orlando area super bowl sunday. they say 37-year-old john powell was his accomplice. the two are accused of stealing cash and a car and then leading police on a chase. they were arrested after crashing into a pole at kaley and orange avenues. this, after they stole a dodge charger on international drive then pistol-whipped an uber , driver on south kirkman road. angela: the orlando international airport is set to expand and it wants your input. in less than 30 minutes at 5:30, airport officials are holding a public meeting to discuss the capital improvement program. that meeting at 5:30 tonight at the u.f. extension center on south conway. jim: coverage now of a deadly accident this week on i-4. a worker with the i-4 ultimate project was killed on the job. 39-year-old marvin franklin died by a dump truck. angela: and we have since learned that one of the companies involved in this project is being investigated for a similar death. wesh 2 news investigates matt grant joins us live from along i-4 with more information. matt? matt: what we have learned, one of the companies involved in the baltimore i-4 project is currently under federal investigation after two employees died last year. this is where it happened yesterday. we are looking into the companies involved in the project and what investigators are now looking for. highway patrol investigators want to know if a spotter was present during the deadly accident. on wednesday, a 34-year-old carpenter, who just began working on i-4 ultimate, was killed when a dump truck backed up and ran over him. industry officials call this a backover and according to federal data, in 2011 70 workers were killed in these type of accidents. most overall are caused by dump trucks. safety and health administration vehicles like that with , obstructed views should only be used if they have a reverse signal alarm audible above the surrounding noise level or a spotter. wesh 2 investigates learned the truck was beeping when it backed up. but the company, sgl constructors, would not say if a spotter was used, or if the truck was equipped with recommended safety features to prevent backovers, such as rear facing video cameras, and other detection software. >> in light of the incident, we need to stop for the moment, take a look at what our safety protocols are. our primary focus is our workforce. matt: sgl constructors is a combination of three different companies, skanska, granite and lane. wesh 2 investigates learned this isn' t the first time a worker was killed in this manner. lane construction corporation is currently under investigation by osha after an employee in ocoee was struck and killed by a dump truck last september. another employee was killed in october, struck by a wood block that fell while a concrete pylon in 2008, lane was fined for failing to properly train employees on safety procedures. those two fatalities were last year, september and october, are still under investigation. there aren' t a lot of details about what happened. for its part, sgl communicates the safety importance to their employees every day. the osha investigation, they tell me their investigation could take up to six months to complete. angela: thank you. we are following breaking news in orange county. chopper 2 over the scene of a fire at a double wide mobile home. this is near oia, and when firefighters arrived, flames were shooting out of the roof there it you can see the fire has since been put out. we are told no one was home. breaking news. jim: let' s talk about the weather. a big difference from yesterday. we have transformed into cool miles-per-hour in the area. investigators believe it was strong winds that caused the semi to flip. traffic was delayed for more than an hour. a nurse scheduled to help with a surgery at a va hospital in showing up drunk. they' re not releasing of the on-call nurse stumbling through the parking lot before he headed inside and helped with an emergency appendectomy. a co-worker anonymously reported him. >> as soon as we were notified of the event we made sure there , were no unsafe situations for our patients, and then we did the further investigations. jim: the nurse told police that he had four or five beers while he has been charged with recklessly endangering another person, dui, and public drunkenness. angela: check out this video of a pursuit though the streets of orange county california. you can see the dramatic ending when an officer hits the suspect' s truck, forcing it to spin out. several other patrol cars then moved and trapped the vehicle. the chase lasted about 20 stewart: and seaworld admits to asking an employee, to wesh 2 news sh stewart: an orange county man is facing charges of stalking. deputies say he crashed his car into a home on purpose. good evening, i' m stewart moore. angela: i' m angela taylor. tonight wesh 2 talks to the woman who says richard davison junior threatened her, and crashed into her home while she was inside. wesh 2' s bob kealing reports. the victims were afraid for their lives. >> we are going to die or something. it was scary. bob: savannah hughey says she and other family members were in their taft mobile home watching a movie tuesday evening, when davison junior, intentionally drove his pickup truck in to their home. savannah hughey: the whole trailer moved and we have a baby that sleeps in the front room so it was really scary. bob: according to deputies there was a passenger in davison' s pickup truck who said he was shocked when davison drove his pickup through a large portion of the victims fence then came back laughing and , drove in to the screen porch. >> no, that' s not funny. that is nothing to joke about at all. bob: investigators are estimating the damage to the ports and fence around $3000. hughey says this damage is only the latest in a series of incidents where davison has terrorized her and members of her family. she says he also sent them threatening text messages. >> he told me he was going to kill me. told a guy in the house he was gonna kill him. bob: in their report deputies confirm they' ve taken pictures of the alleged threats as evidence. davison, who' s charged with aggravated stalking with a credible threat and criminal mischief, is being held on a judge has ordered him to stay away from the family and their damaged home. bob kealing, wesh 2 news. angela: the florida department of health has diagnosed a new case of zika in orange county. this makes more than 30 cases identified across the state. the majority are in south florida, but as you can see patients are being treated in , osceola, orange, brevard, and seminole counties. all cases are travel-related. a passenger who was onboard that cruise ship that was hit by a nasty storm off the coast of the carolinas has filed a lawsuit. the suit against royal caribbean claims the company should have known about the storm ahead of time. hurricane force winds battered the ship, breaking things on board, and injuring several people. royal caribbean says it will not comment on pending litigation. stewart: it' s been a week and a half since the orlando police department launched a search for a missing newborn. chopper 2 was over the scene as the search led investigators to a retention pond near the willow bend apartments. it' s believed the child' s mother, susan richardson, gave birth in the apartment complex' s the baby. she' s been arrested. police say she hasn' t been helpful with the investigation. fire sparked at a winter park home this morning. fire crews say someone put a christmas wreath on a hot stove. this happened at a home on via tuscany. the wreath caught fire, and when it was moved, the fire spread. the three people inside the house got out safely. damage was minimum. angela: florida' s newest gun laws are now in the books. rick scott signed two bills into law this week. one of the called the backyard range bill. it restricts gun owners from firing in their backyards. it also bans the use of guns in neighborhoods where there are one or more homes per acre of land. a second law gives new flexibility to judges when sentencing people convicted of aggravated assault. right now a suspected bank robber is facing charges in volusia county. and police are crediting a 72-year-old woman with helping them make the arrest. today that woman spoke with wesh 2' s claire metz. her car in front of this wells fargo on speedway boulevard while her boyfriend did business inside. she did not realize the bank was being robbed but thought it odd when a man rushed out, running toward a vehicle parked next to her. >> it was just a feeling that i had. something was not right, something was wrong. claire: and fleurette bowers was right on the money. something was wrong. police say this man standing at the tellers window passed a note implying a weapon and demanded cash. he is now identified as 42-year-old christopher gulley, and police say it was gulley who fled the bank in a hurry raising bowers' suspicions. >> the man who approached the car said hurry up, let' s get out, get out get out, get out. claire: bowers didn' t get a good look at gulley or the person driving the white car gulley got instead she focused on the tag number, writing it down on a piece of paper and giving it to responding officers. >> once they got it, they were in a matter of seconds knew and one of our officers got claire: police followed the vehicle on mason avenue. these are pictures of the take down in front of a store there. police don' t believe the driver knew gulley was allegedly planning a bank robbery, so only gulley is charged. police say he confessed and they recovered the cash, all because of this 72-year-old. >> god bless her, god bless her, she doesn' t look 72. >> we don' t have dementia yet. claire: far from it, her boyfriend says bowers is anything but old. >> i think she was smart and sharp and on it, as usual, as usual. claire: bank employees identified gulley as the suspect. he remains behind bars. in daytona beach, volusia county, claire metz, wesh 2 news. stewart: right now the suspect in a drive-by shooting in daytona beach earlier this week, remains on the run. police say four people were wounded when 27-year-old rakim watson opened fire at a home on sheridan road. all the victims are expected to be ok. watson is also the suspect in a murder last year. a fired disney employee testified before congress today, about losing his job with the company. 250 i.t. engineers who were laid off and then forced to train their replacements who work out of india. senator bill nelson and other members of congress are hoping to stop companies from doing this in the future. governor scott: what i am focused on is my job here. i have got three years left in this job. we have added 1,025,000 jobs, and i want to add more jobs. that' s my priority right now. angela: governor rick scott speaking yesterday. he' s being considered as a running mate for republican front-runner donald trump. as you just heard, scott is being coy about the idea. trump himself has yet to make any solid announcement. stewart: but what happens if an offer is made, and scott accepts? wesh 2 political reporter greg fox sat down with the man who could be scott' s replacement. greg: on some voter scorecards, billionaire donald trump, and millionaire florida governor rick scott are cut from the same tree. like trump, scott spent most of his life in business, making hundreds of millions of dollars running the nation' s biggest of health clinics. then he decided to run for office and, like trump, financed his own campaign winning the , governor' s race in 2010. and he accepts no state salary. trump has vowed to decline a presidential paycheck. trump even said wednesday that someone with political experience might be the best running mate. i asked lieutenant governor if published reports about a trump-scott team are getting traction. have you even discussed that with rick scott? carlos lopez-cantera: no. we haven' t. not as far as this presidential cycle. that' s pure speculation right now. there' s no evidence to be able to confirm that that is even part of the realistic discussion. greg: carlos lopez-cantera, a donor to marco rubio' s campaign, says the florida senator has the experience necessary to be in the oval office. is trump as a businessman turned politician qualified to be president? >> i' ll let others make that judgment. i believe marco is the best choice for the republican party. presidential ticket and resigned, lopez-cantera would be governor. >> i' m going to do whatever is best for florida, and if that is what is best for florida, that' s what i' ll do. greg: but right now he' s focused on his bid to replace rubio and is currently running fourth among republicans in fund raising. greg fox, wesh 2 news. angela: trump is also said to be mulling various women as potential running mates, including south carolina governor nikki haley, former vice presidential nominee sarah palin, and former presidential candidate carly fiorina. and a new poll has good news for donald trump and bad news for marco rubio. rubio is losing to trump here in florida. trump is blowing away the competition with 44% of those surveyed saying yes, they will vote for him. rubio comes in second with 28%. ted cruz is far behind at 12% followed by john kasich and ben , carson. stewart: right now investigators in hollywood, florida are looking into this plane crash. a small plane fell out of the skies and landed on a home yesterday. board and he wasn' t hurt. the plane was apparently heading in for an emergency landing. if you' re looking to open up a new business, orlando is the place to do it. that' s according to a new, nationwide study. but do local business leaders agree? wesh 2' s brett connolly found out. >> there' s a lot of hats to wear in owning a small business . brett: and that' s the exact reason most people don' t venture out and start their own company. but 15 years ago kelly shannon put her name on a floral shop, and has watched her business blossom with the city. >> i have been in this location for five. the area has been growing like crazy. brett: the store sits in the mills district and is one of many small companies benefiting from growth throughout the city beautiful. a new study by all state rated orlando one of the best cities in the country to launch a small business. it took you it is scores based on a for criteria. -- eight core criteria. ll start a bill poised to regulate fracking. it' s the process of drilling into the earth and fracturing rock to harvest natural gas. today a senate committee voted 10 to nine, to oppose legislation which would regulate fracking. environmentalists have long been opposed to it. some are concerned it puts chemicals into the ground water. members say they could hear the bill again next tuesday. stewart: florida lawmakers are also working to revamp the state' s mental-health and substance-abuse treatment systems. the bill would create a no wrong door policy so that people who matter how they enter the systems. the measure would create central receiving facilities to function as single points of access to emergency care and intervention services. similar legislation died in the senate last. -- last year. angela: some big news from seaworld tonight. after several years of sluggish attendance, the company says revenue is up. stewart: wesh 2' s michelle imperato takes a closer look at those surprising fourth-quarter numbers. michelle: seaworld has seen its fair share of controversy in recent years but today the company is reporting some good news. the theme park says attendance and revenue are up in the fourth quarter of 2015 compared to the year before. officials say nearly more people 43,000 visited the park in the fourth quarter of 2015 compared to 2014. and they raked in an the boat was reportedly hit by 10 to 12 foot waves. angela: the largest model ever made of the infamous passenger ship titanic made its debut in spain today. visitors to the exhibit are able to see
