school. watch for more on this breaking st ory in our newscasts coming up at 4. now back to our top story.... the cleanup has begun in dodge county after torrential rains brought flash floods to mayville yesterday. the storm forced two schools to evacuate. now the community is looking to dry out. cbs 58's kyle aevermann has more from mayville. 3 we are outside of st. john school just 24 hours ago the spot where i'm standing was completely flooded. has been closed down for the day as teachers clean up. and clean up is what it's all about. "look at that that 7 inches" gerald engmann live directly behind parkview elementary, one of two schools that were evacuated because of heavy rain and rising water wednesday engmann "you should've seen this yesterday the water was all the way up to here."and his 50 years in this home, he like this one. "it came down just like in buckets you know" natsdown the street crews from the mayville public works department were out early this morning in front of saint johns school, removing sandbags and concrete blocks so that road could reopen. "is it kind of all hands on deck?" "big time, yeah. yeah there's no doubt." doubt."jack hurst, public works superintendent says it's been about 10 years since the city saw a storm of this magnitude. and says clean up will likely take weeks. "in a flood this big, the swirling water you'll see the after effects. like catch basins and manholes that's all going to have to be repaired" coming up on the news cast at 4 o'clock we will show you what one of two dams here in flood victims now hoping to dry out during this clean up. rebecca's here with a look at whether we'll get a much-needed break from the rain. rebecca in wx center today: sun and clouds during the afternoon. still warm and muggy with highs in the 80s feeling a touch warmer. wind: w 5-15 mph.tonight: just a few clouds. cooling down but still above-average with lows in the lower 60s. wind: nw 2-5 mph.friday: a little sun to start the day with clouds returning in the afternoon with storm chances. scattered storms possible through warm and muggy with highs around 800. wind: se 5-10 mph. weekend: breezy and cooler saturday with sunshine returning after morning showers. lots of sun on sunday with highs around average in the lower to middle 70s. a lot of people in southeastern wisconsin woke up with water in their basement after yesterday's rain. rain.cbs 58's julie parise has been talking with an expert about how best to get that water out of the house as quickly as possible..she joins us live with some advice...julie? 3 a lot of neighborhoods are drying out after yesterday's storm - including here in tosa. the rain made a muddy mess here off hawley road.you can see a pile of fresh mud here - as well as a pile branches that fell off trees and onto the street overnight.this house didn't suffer any water damage in the basement, but we're told other homes along this street weren't as lucky. we asked experts what to do if you're faced with water damage - and what you can do to prevent it. if they have any standing water then we go to a utility pump that you can plug right sumppump extenstion - that will guide water away from the house. many hardware stores also sell small water alarms to install in your basement - they alert the homeowner when water is detected. they usually cost under 15 bucks.live in tosa jp cbs 58 cbs 58 is working to get more informn mayor offered this troubling recommendation about drinking water in city homes. homes."i strongly urge anyone who lives in a home that is older than 1950-51 to get filters for their faucets. 3 his concern is for the possibility of lead in drinking water.....because nearly 70-thousand lateral sewer pipes containing lead still need to be replaced. homes built before 19-50 are more likely to have lead.it's estimated to cost between five replace the lead laterals. watch for more on this story coming up in our cbs 58 newscasts at 4 and 5 tonight. new at noon, a flight had to return to milwaukee's mitchell international airport shortly after takeoff this morning. the skywest flight to mineapolis developed a mechanical problem. no specifics from the airline yet about just what went wrong. but the plane landed safely and the 49-passengers were put on other flights for the twin cities. the milwaukee police department is looking for suspects following a deadly sho. shooting. th and hadley around six last night.?two? people were shot--- a 24-year-old and a 34-year-old.according to the milwaukee county medical examiner-- the ?24-year-old? died on his way to the hospital. the condition of the second person is ?not? known. and police continue their search for ?this man?--- 35-year-old "billy bays."he's charged with two counts of ?attempted murder? in connection to a shooting. shooting.that shooting happened back in july at "palmer" and "north avenue."a have any information please contact milwaukee police. a proclamation from governor scott walker today declaring september childhood cancer awareness month. month.the governor del?ivered the proclamation today at children's hospital in wauwatosa. one of the special guests at today's event was 15-year old annie bar'-tosz . 4 years ago, when she was just 11, annie created a foundation called 'gold for september' to suor cancer....she did it after the loss of her brother to the disease...and the effort has grown beyond her dreams. she was a veteran, disabled, she served our country and trusted in somebody she never met before to try and do something nice for somebody in her lifeit didn't sit well with anderson, so he made some calls and came up with not only tickets ot the packers/colts game, but also a badger game game it was important for us to show that we're human too and we appreciate other people's services andersen called the gesture small, to in this craig's list ad and i got scammed, but that made me want to lose faith, but then this happened today, and you know, it's giving me faith back and while for police this is about helping a veteran, for hoffmann this story is about the officers officers i'm truly grateful. no words can describe what they did. they need to be appreciater and they need to be proud of what they do do thank you.
