in milwaukee. miwaukee.fire crews still on the scene of a duplex fire at 50th and clarke streets. cbs 58's kyle aevermann is there with the latest information. kyle? we've been able to move closer. takea look at this. the roof of this completely collapsed in and the left side of the building is leaning over. you can see the intensity of the flames torched the side of the neighboring duplex. this fire was called in around 4 o'clock this morning. it's believed to have started in this vacant duplex. 6 people were next door. they managed to get out safely and no one was injured. i just talked with 2 of them. they didn't said they feel bleed because this could have been a lot worse. this was still a 2 alarm fire and a daerous one for firefighters. 3 deputy chief terry lintonen/mfd: when you get a fire that well involved you get wires that burn off of the buildings. so we did have wires laying in the back.. on the alley side of this. we had to be very very cautious in our approach especially on the backside because we just can't use that area when we have live wires dancing around. cause is still under investigation crews wrapping up kyle aevermann, cbs 58 news 3 3 3 "certainly theres a great deal day and i think it's a tribute to the partnership with the community.as well as the tactica and restraint of the department. 3 3 milwaukee police chief "ed flynn" talking late last night about the situation on the city's north side. chaos erupted two nights in a row ... after a deadly officer-involved shooting on saturday.chief flynn says.. they made about half a dozen arrests overnighyesterday. but he says it's an improvement compared to the last two nights. this after 23 year old sylville smith was shot and le running away with a gun in his hand running away with officer while nninruaway with a gun in his hand saturday night. 3 milwaukee law enforcement officials shut down sherman park at 6 st night. officials say it was an effort to stop the unrest on milwaukee's north side. at 10 o clock last night ..no one under the age of 18 was allowed on the streets city leaders were in favor of the extension of curfew to help quell the unrest some like state senator lena taylor thought it is not the solution. 20:30:48-08 state sen. lena taylor (d) 14th district: i think that we need to have activities i don't think the issue is to go on lockdown..it's to get out. to encourage people to come out of their homes to come and to participate to help have some ownership. it's all hands on deck. all hands on deck..for being a part of the community.. to be the change we w it's still unclear if the curfew will be extended again tonight... sheriff david clark says sherman park will be closed nightly at 6-pm until 6-am until further notice. stay tuned to cbs 58 for the latest. 3 mayor tom barrett echoed many of the chief's comments. comments.he says church leaders and those who helped clean up sunday morning made a big impact. 11:18:52-19:04i'm specifically asking the pastors and the to be involved in this effort. by having them as part of this effort i think is makign this situation better than it otherwise will be. be. mayor barrett also commended the professionalism of law enforcementhe says every milwaukee resident should thank them for putting their lives on the line this weekend to make sure people were safe. 3( (in addition to the early curfew at sherman park, and applauding the police department for their hard work, mayor tom barrett said churches and faith based a role in restoring the peace. peace. a chaplin we spoke with said about 30 churches of differnt denominations were out last night talking with residents in the neighrborhood. those talks led to conversations about how residents see the church... and what they have and have not been doing right in reaching out to the nieghborhood in the past. it's conversations like those they hope will continue to happen in a civil way. church leaders admit they should have been working with the neighbhood before the events unfolded.. but now that they're there... they plan to stay. something where we walk away, it's going to be something we continualy do. it's starting churches to do these adoptions neighborhood programs and helping them and training them to get out of the 4 walls of the church to really reach the people and it's something we should have been doing a long time ago." ago."there is a ?listening session? "in a neighborhood where the opportunities for employment... are so few and far between ?already?... it is foolish and counter- productive... to take out your anger on the few businesses that choose to operate on your block. looting and burning won't create opportunities to get a job and get ahead in life. this is such an unfortunate situation. firefighters have been putting out hot spots over the past half hour. the roof of this duplex completely collapsed. just as firefighters explained to us earlier. 3 the back part of the building is collapse when we arrive it that building.. the exposure building where we remove the occupants from it does have significant damage but it won't be a total loss. loss.milwaukee fire responded to this duplex just after 4 this morning on n 50th street in between clarke and wright. we are told this duplex was vacant when the fire started. the flames also did damage next door. 6 people were sleeping in there. they managed to get out safely. i morning, she didn't want to go on camera but told me she has a lot of water damage inside because her windows were open. but she feels blessed because it could have been much worse. the red cross has been on scene to help them out this morning. firefighters are still on scene. as far as a cause, that kyle aevermann, cbs 58 news a ?much calmer? start to the day this morning...after ?two nights of unrest? in milwaukee.for thest part, things stayed ?peaceful? overni. overnight. there were some of large gatherings and reports of a heavy police presence in some areas late last night... but nothing like the previous two nights... nights...when there were violent protests following the death of 23-year-old sylville smith.smith was shot and killed by a mi running away from a traffic stop with a gun in his hand. saturday night.. violence erupted in the city.this is video of the b-p gas station fully engulfed... just one of the businesses hit during the riots.multiple buildings were burned, damaged or destroyed near the sherman park neighborhood. milwaukee mayor "tom barrett"... is giving credit to the faith community.he says... members ?stepped up... and made a big difference? overnight to help pacify the unrest in the city. together which we're going to see some awesome change and it's going to come really quick. "richard schwoegler" joined chaplains from the salvation army and volunteers from 30 churches last night for ?outreach? around sherman park. 3 this is not something where we're just going to walk away. its something we'll contnually do.. it's starting churches to do the adopt a neighborhood plans helping them and training them to get out of the four walls of the church to reach the people. it's really something we should have done along time ago. 3 there's a ?listening session? could be suspended from the league indefinitely.it all stems from an investigation into ?performance enhancing dru? drugs.?the n-f-l plans to suspend "clay matthews" and "julius peppers" indefinitely... if the two ?don't give interviews? to the league by next thursday.a letter from the league to the players association states... they'd be suspended for "detrimental conduct." the players about ?allegations from al jazeera?... that they used p-e-ds.the league says... the suspensions would be ?seperate? from any ban that comes... if they're found guilty of using p-e-ds. both players have ?denied? the allegations on multiple occasions. 3 there's now an offer on the tabel... to ?settle? the hall ofame game case.the game--- which was supposed to feature the packers-- was ?cancelled?
