the problem. now, researchers are testing again. this time they hope the water is cleaner. wdbj7's eamon o'meara has details on what they are doing. flint, michigan is back to using clean water from detroit. but with the damage done to the pipes, no one knows if the water has less lead than the last time virginia tech checked them. (siddhartha roy, phd student) the lead levels in flint should be going down, but the only way to prove that is to do a follow up study. so now, the school needs to send another 300 water testing kits to flint residents who tested their water before. (kimberly hughes, recent graduate of biochemistry and biology) we need 3 different types of bottles, so we're just prepping them right now, capping them, put them all together afterwards and once the kits are set up, you just label them with the addresses they need to go to and you just send them off and the flint residents take it from there. (pan ji, 4th year phd candidate) they are doing their own sampling there so they have a better knowledge of what is going on and we are able to communicate with them individually about what's in that water exactly from that tap. everyone at the school making these kits is volunteering to help in any way they can. i can't imagine not being able to drink my own tap water. i felt really awful and i wanted to just do everything i could to help. soon enough these kits will be sent to flint, michigan for the residents to fill up with their tap water. then they'll be sent back here to virginia tech for, hopefully, a better round of testing. from a human perspective i really hope there isn't any lead in it this time. it could take a while for lead to completely get out of the water but what we're hoping is that the water's clean and that everyone will have safe water but we don't really know exactly what to fully expect yet. they should have their answer, though, very soon. weeks the last time so i'm guessing 4-5 weeks is a good turnaround time in how we go about getting them back, them. so maybe a month or two. eamon o'meara wdbj7. the case of so- called "affluenza teen" ethan couch will be moved to adult court. a texas judge made that ruling yesterday. the 18-year old could now face 120- days of jail time for the 2013 drunk driving wreck that killed four people. at the time, couch was sentenced to 10-years probation. he and his mother fled to mexico in early december, after video surfaced of him at a party where alcohol was being served. authorities say that was a probation violation. they were caught several weeks later. the judge's ruling means couch's probation will now extend past his 19th birthday. his probation was previously set to expire under the state's juvenile justice statutes. the justice department is offering a compromise to apple about the encrypted iphone used by a san bernardino shooter. after breaking the code, apple could then break the software. develop such software, saying it risks people's privacy a hearing is scheduled in federal throughout the night, people lined up outside the supreme court to pay their respects to justice antonin scalia. years on the bench before passing away president obama and the first lady also stopped to pay their respects. obama is not attending scalia's despite some criticism. biden will be there. the white house says the decision is a "respectful arrangement" given the president's security and biden's personal relationship with scalia's family. the white house says president obama will start reading through extensive packets of information about potential supreme court nominees this weekend. the information includes details of their professional careers, records and experience. the israeli ambassador to the united states says liberty university is the most pro-israel place in the united states. ron dermer made those comments yesterday, where he was the featured speaker. dermer gave students an overview of israel's history and the threats it currently faces in the middle east. he encouraged his evangelical audience to stand with israel, just as he said the country is standing with christians. ron dermer/israeli ambassador to the united states: "in israel the sacred sites of christians are safe and, i promise you this, in israel christians will always be safe and free." liberty will be sending a group of students to israel for 10 days in march. they will perform medical relief work and minister to refugees, among other projects.
