developing now - a cincinnati woman is in jail tonight accused of driving the wrong way on i-71 ... smashing into another driver - killing him. that driver was just trying to get home from work. now police want to know why that woman was on the wrong side of the highway. highway.this crash happened just before the dana avenue exit.9 on your side's t-j parker is live with new information about caused this crash ... t-j? police believe drugs and alcohol are possible factors here on i-71 near the dana road exit this morning. police are blaming 22-year old taryn chin in this crash. lt. bruce hoffbauer: "00:32 it was a pretty spectacular crash" cincinnati police describe a horrifying scene on i-71.they say taryn chin- was driving north in the southbound lanes when she hit 47 year old jose arenas head on. hoffbauer: "2:37 two cars traveling 55 miles an hour and they hit head on on the interstate, it's going to be a spectacular crash because of the speeds and the force and the damage is going to reflect that" cincinnati police lieutenant- bruce hoffbauer- says arenas died at the scene. chin only had minor injuries. he says both were wearing their seatbelts. 4:43 it might be something that came on to mr. arenas so quick that he wasn't able to respond to it he says arenas was obeying traffic laws- and was just on his way home. hoffbauer: "9:36 here you have an individual on his way home from work, mr. arenas on his way home from work and it appears he's doing everything right and a terrible accident happened" police arrested chin. hoffbauer says she had a blodd alcohol level of point one-two. police are trying to figure out if she had drugs in her system, as well. they're also trying to determine what chin was doing on the road at three in the morning. hoffbauer: "2:03 we're not sure where she was prior to the crash or how she got on 71 in the wrong direction"chin is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and vehicular homicide. she's at the hamilton county justice center. police are reviewing traffic cameras and the 9-1-1 calls to pinpoint where chin got on. tonight at 6- i asked police how often this happens- and what to do if you see someone driving the wrong direction. live along i-71, t.j. parker, 9 on your side. 9 on your side did some digging to find out how common the state of ohio. ohio.there were 227 wrong way deaths between 2009 and 2013. the peak year being 2012 with 114 deaths. for greater perspective - 60 percent of drivers who cause wrong-way crashes drank alcohol beforehand. nearly 80 percent happen between 6 p-m and 6 a-m -- with most of weekend. we now know that the pills found in radio personality and attorney lisa wells' car were percocet... according to her colleagues at 700 w-l-w. nine on your side's tom mckee is here with new information on that discovery and reaction to it. there was a lot of talk about lisa wells on 700 w-l-w today... many expressing surprise and concern about what happened. the mystery of why lisa wells hasn't been on wlw radio tuesday. it stems from the january 25th traffic stop near troy, ohio, that resulted in four felony and one misdemeanor drug charges being filed against her. her colleague, bill cunningham, addressed the issue this way. way.
