A cab driver talking about a scary attack this morning. He was slashed while dripping off passengers in brooklyn. Im chris wragge. Reporter chris and mary, the cab driver said hes okay but nervous and angry. He was attacked about 3 30 this morning in williamsburg. He told us that he picked up three guys, about 18 to 20 years old, about 3 30 this union avenue and lorimer street. He said they looked okay but something was not right. They originally, he said, wanted to go to knicker booker avenue but didnt have enough money. The driver agreed to a 10 fare and they changed their mind and asked to be taken nearby to north fifth street and the driver offered them a free ride and when they got there, two of them got out and a third remaining in the back seat, put his arm through the partition and slashed him on the forehead. The driver again said he thought something prior to that was suspicious. Whenever i pick up a customer, i have a sense there is trouble but since we cant them. And it was from my forehead and that is why was afraid and that is a deep cut. And luckily its not. Just a service cut. Reporter the driver us he was so proud the nypd immediately responded and caught, he said, the three guys who he identified. And its unclear because police are telling us this morning that two of the three are in custody here and there has been an increase in slashings across the city but the cab driver told us prior to this, he was not worried about it and this morning, he said hes glad to be okay. The 24yearold, a bronx resident, has a criminal history related to drugs. Nj transit released a statement saying in the event, the unions call a strike, we will have a plan in place to accommodate customers who purchased sicket tickets and passes. They should purchase them as they would normally purchase them. Police say two of the suspects are here at the 90th precinct station house behind me. The cab driver said he was worried initially. The cut he got was so deep because of the blood gushing. He said, though, hes lucky it was not. I am doing okay. And you get nervous and angry. Reporter he has a slash mark on his forehead from where police say a passenger attacked him around 3 30 this morning in williamsburg. The yellow cab driver picked up three guys near union avenue and lorimer street. They originally didnt have enough money for the fare but he offered them a free ride, taking them to north fifth street and white avenue where they asked to go. And i said okay, guys, have a good night. And managed to put his hand and slashed my forehead. What did he use . I dont know. I didnt see it and i put the car and drive away. I didnt want them come after he or whatever and i called the police. One left to the left and the one to the right and the one in the middle crashed me basically. Right now, the Union Leaders are adamant about the changes they would like to see in order for a deal to be reached. Six 1 2year contract somewhere around 18. 6 . And a modest increase in the healthcare. Reporter the uncertainty had many riders wondering whether they should buy a monthly pass this month, not knowing whether they will be able to use it. Nj transit released a statement saying in the event the unions call a strike, we will have a plan in place to accommodate customers who purchased tickets and passes. They should purchase them as they would normally purchase them. Earlier this week, on the ask the governor radio show, the governor would not say whether he would take any executive action to avoid a strike instead deferring to the mediators. And my job at this point is to let my negotiators negotiate and wells them work and try to work the problems out. That is everybodys goal. No ones goal is to have a strike here. Were looking at Police Vehicles that are set up along columbus avenue near 64th street. It happened around 5 40 this morning, a man was stabbed and taken to an area hospital. His condition is not known at this time and its not mean whether police have a not mean whether police have a custody in suspect or if theyre looking for one. This is on the columbus avenue side. We understand there might be Additional Police activity inside a parking garage on the amsterdam avenue side as well. And well have have more information as its available. Jim smith, cbs 2 news. Thank you. To the latest city slashing happening overnight. Police have three suspects in custody. Andrea grymes spoke with the yellow cab driver and has an update for us in williamsburg. Andrea. Reporter chris and mary, thats right. Police confirming all three suspects are in custody here at the 90th precinct station house behind me. Investigators said after the cabby was slashed, those three chokehold and stole his cell phone. As for the cab driver, he told us that hes glad his injury was not worse. I am doing okay. We think, you know, you get nervous and angry. Reporter mustafah cadro has a slash mark on his forehead where a passenger attacked him around 3 30 this morning in williamsburg. The yellow cab driver picked up three guys near union avenue and lorimore street. He saidy there originally didnt have money for the fare and ended up offering them a free ride, taking them to north fifth street and white avenue where they asked to go. I said okay, guys v a good night. All of a sudden, one managed to put his hand and slash my forehead. What did he use . I dont know. I didnt see it and i put the car in drive and run away. I dont want them to come after he or whatever and i called the police. One left to the left and one to the right and the one in the middle slashed me. Reporter he immediately proud that the nypd quickly made arrests. Again, after that slashing, police say that the three then attacked a 25yearold man nearby on south second and they were able to quickly pick them up. There has been an increase in slashings across the city recently. The cab driver, though, told us until now that that is not something he was worried about.
