Fire. That little girl was trapped on that balcony that you can see here right behind us. Out of that, the girl was able to take that leap of faith into the arms of the three officers who saved her. The fiery scene even scary for most adults, but this, Mahwah Police say, was no ordinary little girl. Very calm, cool, collected. Not your average 9yearold girl. Reporter as officers went doortodoor getting residents out of the complex tuesday afternoon, neighbors alerted them to this third floor balcony, the girl forced out of her apartment by the heavy smoke and flames. The officers quickly realized shed have to jump. I was concerned we would have to do a lot of convincing. Its difficult to get somebody to jump off a third floor balcony. Reporter it is about a 25 they say it didnt take much coaxing. I called for her to jump, she just released herself and fell backwards into our arms. Reporter one thought racing through their minds. Just dont miss. The young girl jumped into the arms of angels. Reporter firefighters say the flames started in the apartment of an elderly neighbor. It destroyed six units in the complex but no one, including the 9yearold was hurt. The officers brushing off the praise, saying it was this little girl who was the brave one. I really think she deserves the most credit because of the way she reacted. Reporter certainly, a remarkable little girl there. As for the six families whose homes burned in that fire, a lot of them are staying with relatives. That girl and her family, were told, are staying at an area hotel. She is all right. Three slashes reported this time last year, this year, seven. They are looking from banning career criminals from the subways altogether. Police in brooklyn are searching for a man who allegedly choked a woman during a robbery. This is during last months blizzard. Reporter parents, students and staff are worried about a they are even more concerned about what they described as a stench. One teachers description . Mold, mildew. Reporter district monitor Dennis Walcott says mold has not been found yet, but an air test has been conducted, and they are waiting on results. I know the district has done some patchwork, but unfortunately with the heavy snow, the patchwork has not held upp are. A representative for the district says so far, two rooms have been isolated, but students and staff here say a hallway that has the same issues is open to walk. This isnt a new issue you. The state department of labor cited the school in 2013 for mold and vermin. I didnt want to be there when i was there. It was really dirty. There are 85,000 metered parking spots including here on Second Avenue where we are. By the end of this year, mayor de blasio says you can pay for each of them by using your cell phone and even get credit back for unused time. Forget the coins or credit cards, paying for parking at meters across new york city will become as easy as just tapping an app. Mayor de blasio is set to announce plans tomorrow night in his state of the city address that would let drivers pay by cell for all metered parking. The city says the new system will draw on the experience of a Pilot Program of the belmont section of the bronx. In 2013, we told you about how drivers there could sign up for an account by providing license they enter the location of the closest meter. Traffic police know if they have paid by running their license plate. At the time, the program was supposed to roll out city wide by 2015. Now the de Blasio Administration promises to make it happen with no additional cost to the city. The mayor says the department of transportation is working on an app through a nocost contract.
