The democratic contest in iowa remains unresolved this morning with Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders still locked in a draw. What has many people here surprised is his connection to city hall. Of edgewater was swarming with sheriffs investigators. Parents picking up young kids from day care monday evening forced to walk around a bloody crime scene, a botched robbery that ended with a 16yearold boy dead. Its just a unimaginable that something of this kind would happen here. Reporter investigators have arrested and charged 19year old kari nordlinger under arrest. He lives here with his mother, a former aid to first lady shirleyaine mccross bronx expressway. Cray. He aparent tried to fight off his alleged attackers, including a 16yearold of spring valley, new york. Investigators say nordlinger stabbed him in the leg, severing an artery, who later died at a hospital. Four other suspects from Rockland County are under arrest accused of trying to hide evidence after the altercation. In 2014, kari nordlinger was arrested for trespass. At that time, his mother stepped down from her job to spend time with her son. Its shocking. I cant imagine. Reporter an attorney told us theyre extremely disappointed by the charges against him. They say kari is a victim in this case and that they will fight these charges vigorously. He, right now, is being held on half a Million Dollars bail and not being allowed to post 10 percent to get out. As for the other 4 suspects, theyre being held on 750,000 bail. Janelle burrell, cbs 2 news. Thank you, janelle. Hurt while battling a fire at a Staten Island home. The fire started around 9 00 9 00 last night in the basement of this sinclair avenue home. The fire chief on the scene said the flames were so intense it burned through 12 beams of the basement. A firefighter fell through the first floor and into the fire. He suffered second and third degree burns. He went into the the living room above the fire area. The beams had burned through and he fell through the floor, through into where the fire was, but fortunately we had other firefighters down there, pushed in with a hose line and rescued him. Four other firefighters were treated for minor injuries. In who was stand staying in the home got out safely. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Police identified the Nassau County girl who was struck and killed by a car as she walked to school. 12yearold Gabriel Christina johnson was a block from Elmont Memorial High School yesterday morning. Witnesses say the 7th grader was crossing against the light. No charges have been filed. Searching for a group of subway fare beaters, one of whom knocked a Police Officer off a station platform and onto the tracks. It happened at the parsons avenue stop in queens on sunday. Two men and two women walked through the Station Service gate in an effort to avoid paying a fare. When two officers tried to stop them, one of the men knocked the officer onto the track bed. The suspects escaped. New york state is offering free testing for the zika virus for people with symptoms who traveled out of the country. Nine new yorkers tested positive for the mosquito bourne virus. Most adults shrug off zika without feeling sick, but one of the infected new yorkers is a pregnant woman. Today, the board of education will consider breathalyzer tests for students suspected of being drunk. Emily smith has more on the. Reporter imagine getting a breathalyzer test at school, based on slurred speech, inability to follow instructions or simply watery eyes. Thats what Nyack High School students face if the policy is approved. People dont care if they get caught or anything. Theyre going to do it anyway. Reporter if approved, Nyack High School would be the First District in the lower Hudson Valley to ask students to take a breath test if suspected they have been drinking. The superintendent, james montesano. If we get a positive reading, the first time its administered, we wait 10 minutes or so and then a second reading is then done. Reporter the policy would target students at school and after school events. A student can refuse the test, but will still be subject to the original policy, which means suspension based on reasonable suspicion. The School Superintendent works with the school board and convinced parents to change an early version of the policy face as reasonable suspicion for intoxication, calling it anything but fair, especially at sporting events. People thought as you were entering into the stadium, everybody would be lined up taking the breathalyzer test. Reporter there can still be legal issues, though. Other districts nationally have run into problems with objections raised by the American Civil Liberties union. The spokesperson says there are several reasons to be concerned about educators using Law Enforcement tactics in school. I do agree with some of that, but but you cant watch your kids 24 7.
