the duration of your sunday. i am loving the forecast yet again. i am greatly appreciating this cool, dry start to the day. we are at 54 right now in monticello. 56 in sparta. yaphank at 58. toms river 67 degrees. in the city, it's 71 as we start off sunday. on the vortex satellite and radar, skies are clear, low pressure is to thank. yesterday was breezy. we expect lots of sunshine, winds on the calmer side at 5 to 10 and a great day. we warm to 9:00 a.m., 77 with sunshine. by noon 83. likely a few more clouds. 3:00 we reach the daytime high of 88 under mostly sunny skies. by 6:00 it's 82. notice today we don't have that feels like list on the screen. that's because low humidity again today means exactly what your thermometer reads is what it feels like out there. coming up in the full forecast, we will talk more muggy weather back to you. >> thank you. we begin with breaking news this morning. more than a dozen people are hurt after a gunfire erupted at a party in brooklyn. >> cbs 2's ilana gold joins us with more on the party from east new york. ilana. >> reporter: nine people were shot on stanley avenue. this is in east new york. this happened during a fight at a house party. this morning police are blocking off this neighborhood, they are talking to witnesses and going door to door to try to get more information on who is responsible. this is what we know. a fight broke out in a backyard at 2:30 this morning. that's when a group of men opened fire during the house party. nine people were shot. the victims are men and women victims 19 to 38. bullets hit them in the arms, leg and neck but the injuries are not life threatening. they weren't the only ones caught up in the fight. police say it was absolute chaos. debris was flying everywhere. four others were hurt. they are getting treated at the hospital for injuries. back out live on stanley avenue, police are investigating an early morning shooting incident that injured more than a dozen people. at this point no one has been arrested. police say they are looking for multiple suspects. live in east new york this morning, ilana gold, cbs 2 news. >> thank you. to a developing story now. a massive search is underway for the killer of a police officer in memphis, tennessee. police say 33-year-old officer shawn bolton was conducting a traffic stop when he was shot multiple times. he was pronounced dead at a local hospital. >> this is just a reminder of how dangerous this job is. we were talking about from what we know, a routine traffic stop and it results in an officer losing his life. >> bolton is the third memphis officer to be shot and killed since july of 2011. nearly 40,000 verizon workers will stay on the job without a new contract. the union is representing workers from massachusetts to virginia threatened to strike if they didn't reach an agreement over benefits by midnight. the unions want to keep verizon from slashing jobs, eliminating pension match. but the wireless carrier says the pros post sales are out of touch with the current job market. a man apparently drown off long island. a man was pulled from the waters off long beach and immediately gave him occasion again another victim, a 23-year- old brooklyn man was pulled from the water. he may have been submerged up to an hour. swimmers were apparently told to get out of the water as lifeguard shifts ended but the two men went back in. a fourth person has died from legionnaires in the south bronx and two more locations tested positive including a mott haven building and a verizon office building. cooling towers at lincoln hospital, the concourse opera mall and county course hotel tested positive. the health department claims all five locations are disinfected. there have been 65 cases in the borough since july. people get sick after breathing in water vapor from infected faucets or cooling towers. >> to prevent this from happening again, why don't we have regular inspections on cooling systems and water towers throughout the city of new york in the same way that we do with elevators. >> a town hall meeting to discuss the outbreaks will take place tomorrow at the bronx museum of the arts. a bronx high school teacher was hit and killed by a car during a cross county bike trip. the driver admits she was looking at her cell phone at the time. she died on an oklahoma -- he died on an oklahoma highway. another cyclist was hurt. he taught for three years at fordham high school for the arts. an african wildlife researcher is casting doubts that a companion of cecil the lion was illegally killed. cecil was shot raising an international outcry. there were reports yesterday that jericho was killed but his collar is sending normal signals indicating that it is alive and moving around. cecil the lion and more than 150 other animals were displayed on the empire state building last night. the filmmakers behind the project called racing extension hope the special presentation pass the law enforcement integrity act. for the next 40 days different groups will pick up where the marchers leave off. tomorrow bobbi kristina brown will be buried in new jersey. brown's funeral was held in suburban atlanta yesterday and family feud disrupted the event. reporter: bobbi kristina brown's casket was draped in pink flowers as family and friends gathered for the 21- year-old's funeral. tyler perry was there and singer monica. bobby brown hugged loved ones outside the church. frustrations between the houston and brown families boiled over. bobby brown's sister lee ola stormed out of the church. kevin phraser said things went wrong when pat houston went to speak. >> leona brown jumped up and was like how dare you, how dare you, how dare you. >> at that moment tyler made a bee-line for leona. tyler and bobby and other folks escourted her out of the funeral. whitney will haunt pat houston from the grave. it is not over. it has just begun. >> reporter: pat houston was whitney's former manager. brown accused her of trying to profit from bobbi kristina's death. >> she is not any relation to kristi. >> reporter: the rest of the family was shocked by the outburst. >> you look at the person who cared for kristi day in and day out, from the moment she was at the hospital until the moment she passed away, it was pat houston. it's interesting that leona would have a problem with pat houston because her father, bobby brown did not have a luge problem. >> reporter: bobbi kristina died a week ago, six months after she was found unresponsive in a bathtub. she will be buried monday next to her mother in westfield, new jersey. autopsy results that could reveal bobbi kristina's exact cause of death are not complete. the nypd is searching for gator possibly prowling in flushing meadows corona park. somebody reported spotted one yesterday morning. police released these photos of their search. no word exactly how big the reptile is but police nicknamed him through august 14th. you can come in and enjoy some of the special food that we are preparing for another week or so. >> what are the details about restaurant week. >> it is produced by nyc and company. and they offer promotions for lunch and dinner. we participate for dinner, $38 for three courses. we have specials not typically on the menu as well as special things for them to come in. our east village location we are running lunch, three courses for $25. >> what are you preparing. >> a typical dish. it's hot pepper shrimp. we make a paste from garlic ginger, basically sauteed shrimp with a kick to it. >> a lot of kick. >> reporter: take it away. >> cool, so, we will start with neutral oil in a heave bottom pan. this is heating up. we will put that in there and then bring that paste and you can see it. it's processed but it's not smooth because we want the chunks and, so, we will put that in there as such that will break up and give the flavor to the shrimp. once that is in there, we will take the shrimp. these are head on shrimp. a lot of the flavor is in the shell. a lot of people don't know that. when we serve them, we encourage our guests to eat the shells. when we get nice color on the shrimp, we will flip them. another good benefit of cooking it with the shell, it insulates the meat so it doesn't overcook. >> that's one of the tricks. when you get the right color you want to get them off there. >> this is distilled white vinegar. this peaks the flavor and adds to the chili, garlic and ginger. >> how long does it take to cook. >> two to three minutes. >> let's talk about the ribs while these cook. >> these are pork spareribs. they are first marinated in a glaze which is a flower. they take the flower and make a tea with garlic and ginger then a little bit of honey. then we slow cook them until they are very tender and glaze them with the same-- >> that is amazing. >> we kind of lacquer it up and it forms a glaze. this is an interpretation. a look of chinese spareribs with caribbean spareribs. >> i don't want to mess up the lobster dish. >> let me take this off the heat. jerk lobster, special for new york city restaurant week. 1 and a quarter pound hole lobster. we get them -- whole lobster. we get them in and kill them. we serve them with spicy cucumbers and chutney. >> let's plate the shrimp. >> excellent. we will put these on. these are barely see a cloud. great start to the day. we will see a few more clouds out there but nonetheless this day will be a mainly sunny end to tur weekend. 77 by 9:00 a.m. by 1:00 it's mostly sunny and 86. we will reach peak heat at 88 this afternoon. then by 5:00 this evening, 85 degrees. warm, then sunsets at 8:11. a beautiful end to the weekend. we will talk the beach and mountain forecast coming up then rising humidity. >> thank you. we begin this half hour with breaking news. a shooting at a house party left more than a dozen people hurt. >> cbs 2's ilana gold joins us york. what happened? >> diane, we learned that nine people were shot out here on stanley avenue during a house party. this morning there is a huge neighborhood. they shut down several blocks as they investigate and try to find the people who fired the gunshots. here is some video from the scene shortly after this happened at 2:30 this morning. that's when police got multiple 911 calls. they say the problem started at nine people were shot. investigators tell us the victims are men and women ages 19 to 38. bullets hit them in the arms, leg and neck. they are at various hospitals, all of them are expected to survive. police describe this fight as total chaos. they say debris was flying everywhere and four others were hurt as a result. this morning they are also getting treated at the hospital for injuries. back out live where police are looking through evidence and going door to door talking to neighbors, after nine people were shot at a house party. at this point no arrests have been made. they are looking for multiple suspects. live in east new york this morning, ilana gold, cbs 2 news. >> thanks. to a developing story, police in memphis, tennessee, are on a massive search for the person that killed a police officer during a traffic stop. shawn bolton was conducting the traffic stop when he was shot multiple times. he was then pronounced dead at a local hospital. he is the third memphis hospital to be fatally shot since july of 2011. an update on a firefighter killed battling a fire in northern california. david ruhl died when a fire broke out thursday in one of the national forests there. the south dakota man was helping firefighters in california. fire officials say he was in a vehicle looking for the best way for crews to handle the flames when they lost contact with him. the 38-year-old's body was recovered friday. the raging fire has burned at least two dozen homes and it is threatening at least 6,000 more. back in our area, in new jersey, an elderly driver lost control of his car and smashed westwood. the man said he stepped on the gas instead of the brakes on friday and crashed into the house on carle place. the accident left glass and debris all over the house. two children, ages 11 and 12 and their mother were sitting in the path of that van. they got up 15 minutes before. >> last night i was grateful and i am still very grateful because we are all okay. but i'm a little angry to be honest. i mean, we could have all three of us been killed. >> this is cell phone video of the car being removed from the property. no one was hurt including the the department of homeland security has issued an alert to be on the look out for terrorists using drones in an attack. the warning comes as the faa investigates two drone incidents at faa airport. dick brennan spoke to the counterterrorism bureau. >> reporter: the department of homeland security bulletin warns police agencies about drones being used as weapons either in criminal or terror activities. it says the increased use of drones underscores potential security vulnerabilities that could be used by adversaries. the nypd told cbs 2 in an interview that a reconfigured drone could be dangerous. >> to have a simple thousand dollar drone fly in with a payload of explosives and set it out and detonate it with a cell phone, you can kill a good amount of people. >> reporter: the nypd deputy chief of counterterrorism told me terror groups like isis are bent on turning simple drones into deadly weapons. >> they have given that indication? >> absolutely. if you go to the internet, it's surprising what these drones can do. >> reporter: drones are already a menace at airports. yesterday there were two close calls at j.f.k. around 2:30 p.m. jetblue reported seeing a drone on approach to the airport. around 5:00 p.m. delta flight 407 was about 1700 feet above the ground when a drone appeared. >> about a mile back there was a drone flying just under the southwest head of us. >> what altitude would you say that was? >> about 100 feet below us, off the right wing. >> reporter: drones are not allowed to fly above 400 feet or within 5 miles of any airport. those restrictions. >> the drone itself can cause damage to an engine. god forbid something like that happens. >> the nypd says there is no specific drone threat against new york city but they are running daily chopper patrols with an eye on drones. at j.f.k., dick brennan, goes cbs 2 news. word that vice president joe biden may be seriously considering a challenge to hillary clinton for the presidential nomination. sources tell cbs 2 his staff is meeting with democratic leaders who have yet to back a candidate. his son beau encouraged him to run before he passed away. some in the party more than 36,000 cases of craft sing also cheese are being recalled because it may -- singles cheese are being recalled. they are three and four pound boxes. they have a manufacturing code of s 54 or s 55. craft says ten customers have complained about the packaging. three have choked on the slices. the international olympic committee agreed to test the waters off rio for viruses after an investigation found it could pose a danger for olympic athletes. rio is the sight of the 2016 olympic games. the world health organization recommended it be tested after the associate press report shows there was raw sewage in the water. they were testing bacteria levels but experts say viruses are a far bigger problem. the ceo who gave his customers a huge pay raise is struggling to make ends meet. he guaranteed all employees a $70,000 a year salary. there were consequences. he is renting his own house to cover expenses. two employees quit because raises. vanessa murdock has what weekend changes in that department then temperatures after that start to decline. high pressure in place. that means blue skies for us. in fact today we will see a few more clouds this afternoon but generally it is a mainly sunny day. this front crossed yesterday sparking a few fast moving showers for us. today high pressure is here. we will be dry and warm to end your weekend. so, a real beauty is what we mostly sunny. in the mid-80s. low humidity. west southwest winds 5 to 10. overnight another beautiful night, mostly clear, 74. tomorrow morning you will start to feel it becoming a little more sticky out there. by tomorrow afternoon, mostly sunny, hot and more humid. 91 will feel closer to the mid- 90s tomorrow with a slight chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm and that chance leads us into tuesday. here we are on tuesday, 89 degrees. showers and storms, lingering chance for that. temperatures will be steadily declining as we make our way through the rest of the week. friday 85. more clouds around. 81 on thursday. mostly cloudy, a few storms possible. 82 friday. we are calling it partly sunny. then saturday, unfortunately, we can't say it's pristine conditions. we think there is an opportunity for showers as we start next weekend. >> but i have to say i don't think we have had a dry weekend in the summer in a really long time. >> it's hard to make it happen with the heat reporter: the move the mets made to get cespedes proves they are taking their shot this year. this slugging outfield irrelevant will be a two month rental but if all goes right the rental agreement will last through october. he went hit less in three at bats but provided automatic protection for lucas duda who goes far in the fourth inning. terry collins had a sit down with duda that you better start making runs. i don't believe this but the nationals intentionally walked cespedes to get another shot at duda. that is a game winning double. mets are a game back of the first place nationals safe way. you say that you see more and more injuries come in during the summertime. why do you think that is? >> summer is a great time. everybody wants to be outside. >> what are some of the more common injuries you see. >> sprains, strains, fractures. gravity is there. in terms of falling off a bike or overuse injuries like running, weekend warriors are out there. they want to put the shoes on, run outside, whether it's soccer, football, basketball, those are the most common ones we see. >> running is a big one. what can people do to go out there and run as they want to but maybe prevent injury. >> i ran two new york marathons. stretch. run early in the morning, later at night so it's not too hot and stay hydrated. >> for those who already are injured, how do you treat some of the common injuries, sprain, things like that. how do you know when to walk it off or try to get out there and when you need to rest. >> it's hard to give that advice, especially when people call over the phone, what should i do. please come in. in terms of managing it, know your own body and a lot of the runners may have overp overuse injuries. they are going from 10 to 15 miles. they want to go out there because it's a great day and enjoy it. i would be careful and try continue to crease what you are doing slowly and not have a dramatic increase in your mileage. >> does being out of practice factor into this when we go from winter to summer. most people haven't been running at year. is there a way to ease into it. would that help? >> sure. depends on what is motivating the person. if pits eye a weekend pick up game and your friends are going, who doesn't want to go and play. stretching before and after, understanding your body's limitations is the best way to handle it. >> thank you so
