meteorologist vanessa murdock is here. we've broken a record. the cold is kind of short lives. >> it's ending today. wrapping up. tomorrow we're in the 30s. tuesday in the 50s. so big changes on the way. this morning, yes, we set a new record. we broke a record set 100 years ago. just find that incredibly interesting. it's frigid out there. that new record now 1 degree. 13 below in monticello. this is what it actually feels like outside right now. nearly 20 below in the city. 25 below in sparta. in the hamptons the windchill at 26 below zero. we do have wind chill warnings and advisories in effect until 1:00 this afternoon. we go through the day, we'll be subsiding. temperature temperatures will be warming up. it'll feel so much better by 9:00 a.m., 2 degrees. by noon, 8, feels like 7 below. our high of 17 will feel like 3 degrees. climbing. the windchills just keep on climbing from there. as for sky conditions, lots of sun. the winds subside into the afternoon. your full forecast is coming up. we'll have specifics on a winter storm moving in. back to you. >> thank you. people across the tristate area are waking up to these extremely cold temperatures and conditions will get colder before they start getting better. >> ilana gold is live with the mobile weather lab with more this morning. >> reporter: it is brutal out here in bryant park. feels like 19 below with the windchill. if you're heading out this morning, you really need to be careful. i am wearing so many layers and the cold is cutting right through them and the worst part is that it is stinging my face. we want to show you the numbers here. 3.6 degrees. it is freezing and the wind, that is really the biggest problem right now, 8.5 miles per hour. a few moments ago it was in the double digits. this is going to be. the big issue this morning. these winds are going to continue. extreme cold blasting the from area for the second day in a row. the arctic air bringing dangerous conditions. >> my nose is freezing. my legs are cold. >> the wind gusts leading to unforgiving windchill. temperatures will feel like 10 below zero. >> it's really the wind that makes it brutal. >> the cold is so brutal being out for just a few minutes can be excruciating, even if you're wearing many layers. >> my face and hands are the worst part. >> how do you feel? right now in the city. but it is colder elsewhere let's take a look at temperatures across the region. the actual temperature in white plains, 2 below. in greenwich, 5 below. winds are still cranking out there and will be through the morning hours. feeling like 23 below in central park. in the hamptons, 26 below. in sparta, feels like 25 degrees below zero. frigid start. as we go into the afternoon the winds will be settling, temperatures will be warming. until 1:00 we are still under a windchill warning for areas in pink and advisory for those in blue. hour by hour forecast. winds subsiding through the day. breezy this morning. it's going to feel like 12 below at 9:00. noon feeling like 7 below. we go plus 6:00 tonight. 14 degrees will feel like 8. coming up in my full weather lab. >> reporter: it is absolutely freezing out here. there is really no other way to see it. we just got word the windchill is minus 23 degrees. i've only been standing in this spot for about police say brutally stabbed his girlfriend and her three children on staten island is now behind bars. sources tell cbs 2 police got a a friends house in queens yesterday. on wednesday investigators say sykes murdered his girlfriend rebecca cutler, their 4-month- old daughter maliyah and cutler's 1-year-old daughter ziana. police are searching for two men accused in a violent kidnapping in brooklyn. the nypd released this surveillance video of the mini van used. two armed men jumped out of the vehicle on tuesday night, grabbed a man in his 60s then stabbed and robbed him. police say the victim was held in his vehicle for more than an hour then pushed out near east 39th street and foster avenue. it's unclear if the men knew the victim. the broadway community is asking for help tracking down a missing dancer. dancer. he did not show up for rehearsals on wednesday. he was last seen near his apartment in the bronx. cell phone and has not updated his social media accounts in the past four days. residents got quite the surprise after a sink hole nearly swallowed a car. yesterday morning as crews worked on a water main break, bub police say the driver went around the barricades and ended up inside the hole. police say the water from the break likely caused the road to collapse. the driver was not hurt but did get a ticket. time now is 6:37. thrift store treasures two people police say robbed a victoria's secret store on staten island twice and made off with thousands of dollars of merchandise. it happened last month. the duo stole more than 300 pairs of underwear. after getting the all clear, a storm-tossed cruise ship is back at sea. an then of the seas left new jersey yesterday afternoon. last week passengers were shaken up and the ship was damaged numbers. lynn brown says it's 14 below. michael and linda tyler say 25 unbelievable. there right now. temperatures, of course, a little bit warmer than that. but for many those numbers are beloci row as well. let's take you live outside. show you what's happening here. beautiful picture of the empire state building. we have clear skies this morning. it will be a sunny day but brutally cold. zero right now with north- hour. winds will be subsiding as we get into the afternoon hours factor in those feels language temps. so yes, record cold this morning. it could be a record cold day. 17 degrees. if that's where we top out today, would tie the valentine's record. something we're watching. and then really as we move forward, because the cold only lasts one day. tomorrow we'll be focusing on a storm that will bring us snow to start, then it will change over to rain on tuesday with rain continuing. 50s out there. so a big change over the next 48 hours. but for today, we did hit zero degrees. we're there right now. the last time this happened was back in 1994. and it set a new record for today. so out there right now, clear skies. it does not stick around though. what's going to happen is low pressure moves in. here we see two systems moving in our direction bringing snow first, rain will follow. so for today, arctic air, but frigid sunshine for valentine's day tomorrow. here's what we see happening. and as we get into the evening hours it will transition to a mix. afternoon we'll start to see some snow. it becomes steady by 2:00, 3:00. after 6:00 we'll start to see it transition to rain. then it will continue to rain all the way through the day on tuesday. tuesday will be a very warm soaker with highs in the 50s. now before we change over to rain, note there will be accumulating snow. the ground is frozen and it will stick upon contact. we're talking about a coating for long island. areas along the jersey shore, 1 to 3-inches. 3 to 6 in the extremes north and west of the city. after that, the rain will wash it away. 1 to 2 inches for most of us. we could see isolated 3-inch spots. expect flooding as well. today, 17. feels like 5. tonight, 12 degrees. the winds will have subsided. tomorrow, 34, increasing clouds, snow and a messy evening commute. then we'll see it transition to a mix and rain. wednesday we'll start to see showers giving way to
