Killed, a consultant inspecting a building next to the esplanade emailed the dob this picture of what he called a scary crack on the esplanade and urged them to get someone over quick on this. Dob acknowledged receiving the email but ultimately never sent an inspector to check it out. There was no evidence of any followup to remedy the situation. Reporter the doi says there was a breakdown of the process of enforcing inspections, mandatory every five years. There were 1,000 buildings, 1,000 rogue landlords, didnt even file their safety reports. And the Buildings Department didnt do anything to force them to file them. Reporter mayor de blasio says, the city will ensure that profit owners meet their obligation to keep their buildings safe. The department of buildings declined our multiple requests to comment on camera. The department has made changes to their compliance protocol. A soccer stadium evacuated in northern germany because of a terror threat. The match between germany and the netherlands was canceled about 90 minutes before kickoff. Police in hanover, germany, saying they had concrete information about a bomb threat. German chancellor Angela Merkel had been scheduled to attend the match. A search did not turn up any explosives but all of the fans were evacuated. Now to the attacks in paris. Another suspect has been identified and there were more police raids today. They are hoping to identify this man to aid their investigation. Police seized a car with belgian license plates this morning in northern paris. The car may be linked to the terror attacks. Several of the terrorists have ties to belgium including the suspect who got away, 26year old salah abdeslam. Overnight, Security Forces carried out more than 100 raids in france and belgium. If crime is up and arrests are down, it sends a message that perhaps they need to be more aggressive, they need to use that tool that stop, question and frisk tool. Reporter the latest year todate numbers january to mid bureau show that compared to last theres an increase in robbery, a hike in felony and increase in grand larceny from 1372 to 1426. This as arrests are down from 46071 to 42752. The Police Commissioner says that the surge in crime in the subways is minimal. On average in the subway thats bursting at the seams over 6 Million People a day using it, on average we have right now 7 crimes a day. Reporter the commissioner dismisses the surge this year and despite the rise in robberies and assaults, he says most of those tend to be pickpocket type issues, theft of smartphones, people sleeping. Reporter bratton says things are much better now than in the bad old days of the 1990s. You could compare violent higher but the goal is to make it lower. The fact that theres a spike in Violent Crime is concerning because people want to feel safe when they go in the subway. Reporter experts say there are also concerns that with winter coming, more homeless will seek shelter in the subways, some of them emotionally disturbed or with drug addictions, which might cause a further crime spike.
