caught on camera. a man paid to clean up trash is instead accused of throwing it over a church fence and it doesn't stop there. police say the suspect is a city sanitation worker who tried to get away in his street sweeper. good evening. i am kristine johnson. >> i am maurice dubois. brian coneybeare is live with more on this bizarre case. word, maurice. francis de chantel church. a man whose job it is to clean up the city was caught on surveillance video throwing trash and debris at the statue getaway car. an unholy act caught on camera. 38-year-old roman protis is seen throwing garbage at the church in brooklyn. >> he started throwing stuff all over the place. almost hit me. >> reporter: she was heading to work 9 a.m. thursday morning. >> he was throwing bottles, stones, whatever he could find and yelling. he got back into the truck. he took the bottle. he started drinking. >> reporter: the statue was not damaged, but the bizarre incident wasn't over. he came back 40 minutes later. this time you can see him wet out of his department of sanitation street sweeper and john paul iii. here at avenue l in east 9th street they tried to pull him over but believe it or not he street sweeper. police say he ran a red light, but he didn't get very far. >> there is no way you are sweeper. >> no. not gonna happen. happen. that's for sure. roman protus when he was arrested sources say he had an unprescribed bottle of anti-psychotic medication on him and he allegedly shouted, quote, i hate roman catholics, unquoted. he has been suspended from his $75,000 a year job and he is facing multiple criminal charges. reporting live, brian coneybeare, cbs2 news. >> thank you. breaking news. a small fire leads to delays for some riders at penn station that broke out in a signal box nine tonight causing a power outage it led the temporary suspension of nj transit. lirr was not affected. trains are back up and running but with delays up 45 minutes. mild forecast for your weekend, but monday morning, that could be a whole different story. lonnie quinn tracking changes in the weather center. >> the first change is the warm air you're talking about for the weekend. saturday 56. sunday 52. decent looking sky across the board. an early chance on saturday for a little raindrop or maybe even a little wet snowflake out there primarily north of the city. for the most part, that's a heck of a weekend for this time of the year. in terms of what you should expect, don't get caught off guard by the weekend forecast because next week looks a little unsettled out there. i mean, a few chances for some snowflakes. you could see some of that light precipitation overnight sunday going into monday. we are talking about a coating for a lot of folks. maybe the bigger number an inch or so much like that wet rain-snow mix. it's a quick mover, however. sunshine returns by monday to talk about that storm we have been watching for a little bit later in the week, which is still to come in my forecast. christine, over to you. >> thank you. we have some new developments tonight. an arrest in connection with a stabbing on the upper west side. and police say the same man is wanted in several other robberies. the nypd released video of the suspect accused of stealing a kindle and headphones after stabbing a man in the back yesterday. this happened on west 88th street in columbus avenue. ron del smith was arrested early this morning after police say he robbed a man on the platform at overnight. police linked smith to three area since wednesday. now new video of a teenager suspected of slashing a worker village. police say that this teen was asking customers at a diaper for donation force a bogus basketball league. police say he did, but later returned and slashed the busboy across the face. a homeless man accused of trying to push a woman onto the subtraction in brooklyn. woman held on to a pillar last train. 46-year-old david french faces several charges and is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation. the unlicensed driver who killed a four-year-old girl almost three years ago will spend three to nine years in prison. franklin reyes was 17 when he smashed an suv into arielle russo and her grandmother in 2013. the little girl died. her grandmother was permanently injured. before sentencing reyes apologized for the first time to the little girl's family, but his mother said his words were not enough. franklin reyes? to harm others? are you gonna end your recklessness and do something meaningful with your life? in august of 2017. the russo family says they plan to be in courtney time he is. campaign 2016. donald trump firing his latest arrow at apple calling for a boycott of the company until it unlocks the san bernardino shooter's phone. the latest south carolina poll shows trump just five points ahead of ted cruz going into tomorrow's primary. cruz appears to have moved within striking distance since last saturday's debate when trump attacked george w. bush. >> one of my problems is i'm straight. i tell it straight. i tell it like it is. >> the next 24 hours we are fighting to determine if the next generation will have the same constitutional liberties everyone of us has been blessed to enjoy. >> now, the democrats hold their nevada caucuses tomorrow. first contest in an ethnicically diverse state. polls show hillary clinton with a slight lead over bernie sanders. and cbs news has confirmed candidates ted cruz and ben carson had a private meeting last night inside a storage closet. carson's camp says cruz wanted to meet to explain why his supporters claim carson was dropping out during the iowa caucuses. carson's team released this statement saying clearly they thought the meeting would produce something for them politically. cruz still resists accepting any responsibility. the funeral of supreme court justice scalia will be held tomorrow morning in washington. today president and mrs. obama were among the thousands who paid their respects at a public viewing. scalia's flag-draped casket was placed in the great hall of the supreme court. his son paul, who is a atlantic priest, led the prayer service. judges considered as possible replacements for scalia. almost every driver can relate to the frustration of trying to find a parking spot. now a new app is hoping to ease some of the stress. but will it help or only create parking wars? here is cbs2's jessica schneider. >> reporter: how many times did you circle the block before you found this spot? >> ten times. >> reporter: a lot of wasted time? >> yeah. >> reporter: those days of circling the block for a spot might be over. >> there she is. >> reporter: the free parking app launched just last month and it puts parking on par with an exact science. >> it connects people looking for spots with those leaving their spots. >> reporter: 32-year-old founder got the inspiration from her dad's quirky parking habits in tudor city. >> he puts a piece of paper on his car and put a frown face if he is not leaving that day. people know to look out for his car. i thought there's got to be an app for this. >> reporter: so rather than wait which is rare, you can find it on your phone. it will show you within a 20-block radius if a spot is open or not. the dots tell you which drivers are waiting to leave. no car information is exchanged until both users accept and it works on an honor system. >> as you pull into a spot, the person pulling in has it to say if it was successful or not. >> reporter: so far, 1,000 people have signed up. triple-a's robert sinclair wonders if problems might arise if it becomes a parking phenomenon. >> different people getting information, might they all descend on that space at the same time? you have the empire state building. could see a flurry tonight. that's about it. it's 39 degrees as we speak. a ton county up into, you know, orange county. it's not gonna do anything in terms of accumulating snow. it could fly through the area. the headlines look like this. nice weekend. temperatures in the 50s. we talked about that at the top of the newscast. talk about it again. few snow chances next week. rain mixing in as well. what we see with the futurecast saturday looks like a good looking day. temperatures in the mid 50s. then you get to sunday. sunday starts off okay. more clouds only in and look at this. here we are. this is early, early monday morning. 3 a.m. getting ready. kids are going back to school, and now it looks like there could be a little bit of snow out there. it's a fast mover. sun will be coming out late morning. could put a coating down. some of the models are saying anywhere from a half an inch to an inch or so much like a wet snow or wintery mix. it's all coming from this low pressure system that you see around the great lakes spinning these little spokes of energy through our area and then you do want to check in on what's going on around the west coast. atmosphere that could possibly bring a winter storm here next week. we watch that. we will watch that. the time period for that, i think it's looking more like a wednesday into thursday event. but it's an active time period and it's all over the place. look at that seven-day forecast. highs 56 on saturday. 35 next thursday. so if you have a high of 35, you are going to have lows well below freezing. >> thanks, lonnie. otis livingston live in florida in just a moment. i am getting ahead of myself. let's talk about carpool karaoke, all right?
