Amazing video, sent in by our viewers. Witnesses tell us they saw steam pouring out from under the street, onto west 58t street, between 6th and 7th avenue. S. Avenues, between 10 00 this morning. They tell us a Water Main Leak caused a reaction with a High Pressure steampipe. Massive plumes of steam fill the air. They quickly located the Water Main Leak and shut off that water main. Explosion. As you can see, it would be a lot worse, if there was an actual explosion. But again, were dealing with highpressure steam that is in the street here in manhattan. And just some water that might surround the pipe and not compromise it, would create a small steam condition, which it did. Was it scary . Yeah. It was pretty scary. Because i didnt know what was going on. So i started recording, and they started telling people to and then they blocked it off. But yeah, it was a bit scary. Reporter the leak did cause the street to buckle. Right now, west 58th street, between 6th and 7th avenues is shut down until they make repairs here. But they dont cant do any repairs until they check for water, gas and electricity. There were no evacuations. But at this point, anybody who out. And no one is allowed in. Thats the latest here, hazel sanchez. A pilot and passenger survived after the small plane they were in crashed in a long then it caught on fire. They are both in the hospital this noon. And now, we have new information from cbs 2s magdalena doris, who spoke exclusively to the pilots family. Thank god, hes alive. Scott clifford has not spoken to people yet,still groggy, after his singleengine plane fell from the sky sunday night. Injuries. He had two lithium titanium rods put in his legs over here. Ribs. Reporter 34 yearly clifford bought the plane just one month ago and was visiting with family on long aisle. Last night, just after 7 00 p. M. , he took off from bay port aerodome, with his passenger, 55yearold mike rome, heading back to upstate new york, where they both live. Clifford tried to turn the plane around at the first sign of trouble. But the plane went down, crashing enjoya residential neighborhood, into a residential neighborhood. The aircraft careening into a utility pole, landing on the pavement. The engine died and luckily, he didnt hit any houses. And that hes alive. Reporter clifford and rome were stuck in the burning volunteer firefighters showed up. Theyre trying to get the i pi lot out. It is a full plane on fire. They tried to cut him out. People hosed down the plane and saved their lives. The men were airlifted to the hospital. Today, Scott Clifford is in serious condition. His passenger, mike rome, received 30 stitches to his head. Both men are expected to recover. Judging by the wreckage, it could have been far worse. The fact that both occupants of the plane are alive is nothing short of a miracle. Reporter the pilots family is planning to go back to the crash site to personally thank those who helped their son and his friend. Magdalena doris, cbs 2 news. The faa is still investigating the cause of this crash. A rutgers student is dead and his roommate in Critical Condition, after a double shooting at the newark campus as Police Search for the killer. Neighbors are dealing with the cbs 2s Raegan Medgie has more. Reporter yellow tape blocked off this apartment. Where a Rutgers University student was shot and killed late last night. And another man, critically injured. Very surprised. Thats not the climate of this area at all. Its a very safe neighborhood. I barely lock my door. So im extremely surprised to hear anything like that. I believe a murder anywhere is shocking. Reporter a little before 10 00, rutgers student, 21year old shaunie patel of toms river, was shot inside his apartment on Central Avenue in downtown newark. Also shot, his 23yearold roommate, who graduated graduated from rutgers last year. The roommates identity is not being released. But hes listed in Critical Condition at university hospital. Then around 9 00 this morning, a handgun was found, a block away from the crime scene, here on bleaker street. Right behind me, police arent saying whether or not that handgun is related to the shooting. And no arrests have been made. In newark, Raegan Medgie, cbs 2 news. There is a 10,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest and conviction. Firefighters tried to put out hot spots as smoke poured from the roof just before 9 00 this morning. The second floor of the large home appears to have been destroyed. Damaged two buildings, leaving several families without a home. The Yonkers Deputy chief said the fire started in the basement of a church and quickly spread to a home next door. But i didnt get a response. Reporter ruthie allen was one of 35 passengers, injured, when this detroitbound Greyhound Bus drove off an ohio interstate. The driver, allegedly blacked out.
