>> i was thinking about working, helping people but also at the same time thinking about our house. it looks really bad we had about three boats, two vehicles and a floating dock surrounding our house. as far as the sheriff's office they put a team together that came and moved everything out of our yard. it was a huge job. i was crying when they texted me the picture, that they came and did that. i didn't know that. >> i went to cudjoe with my parents, in which they were helping people who just suffered there. cudjoe was hit really hard. this really showed me that i'm really proud to be their daughter. and to have helped all these people. >> there were so many first responders that lost so much and just kept going and helping people. it made us stronger. it made us closer to one another. neighbors got out of their house and met neighbors that they had never met before prior to the storm. now you have stronger communities. >> we want to say a big thank you and lend a hand to all the first responders who were involved. amongst those folks, starting off with the monroe county sheriff's department. the fire and rescue. we have key west fire department. the key west police department. keys energy. florida keys aqueduct authority. last but not least, the florida fish and wildlife conservation commission. so we'd like to talk to a couple of folks. first of all, we have sergeants eric and linda mixon. you met them in our piece. they're with the monroe county sheriff's department. now, while all of this is going on you guys are a married couple and out there. how difficult was it? have you seen it recently? >> not recently. it is very endearing. >> i love the song "love me tender." i have to say, i always thought it was kind of a romantic song. when it was first -- the movie where it debuted, he was singing it to his mom and family. >> yes, his family in the movie "love me tender." >> it kind of works as a children's book. i was looking through it and it got me. it is touching. >> it is touching. it is very tender touching and compassionate. it's just perfect, you know for a children's book. especially you know younger children. this starts out from birth and goes into a little older, a little older. it's every race and culture that can relate to it every country. it's a first book for children to even learn to read. >> yeah. >> the illustrations are so beautifully done. i think it really says the story in such a way that even children at a young age can relate to. so yeah we're really proud of it. >> it is so sweet. also the kind of book that moms like to read because it is a love letter to their babies. >> it is a love letter to their babies. also you know this also is a community of families. it shows you how, you know, of course parents have their children or child and then they get older, a little older. it shows how everyone is enjoying their children and teaching their children. listen this could be a first book for a child to learn how to read. it's just such a sentimental, you know very touching and heartwarming book. >> do you have memories of elvis reading? >> actually elvis, i was asked that about elvis singing songs to her. elvis didn't go around the house singing his songs. he was a bit shy, really. >> really? >> he wouldn't just do it. what he would sing was gospel songs. that was very, very different. he'd rock out on gospel. but yes. >> i know the book is dedicated to your granddaughters harper and finley. >> they were the inspiration, absolutely. >> have they read it? do they approve? >> oh my gosh they love books, period. both of them are really into it. so they read this right off the bat and loved it. like i said they're 9 now. >> yeah. >> this is -- even to teach -- not teach but read this to children and then my hope is that they'll play the record for them or they'll identify you know with elvis. this is a perfect, i think, perfect way to start children off to know who elvis presley is. >> it is a sweet song and lull by. how is lisa doing? >> you want the pot to be as hot as the hinges of hell honey. really really hot. i'm serious. we'll add water to it and boil it. we want to remove it the fat. it'll cook off and you get the scum on the top. we don't want the scum to end up in the pot. >> how long will it take? >> about 45 minutes. once that's done we're going to drain it. we add our meat. now, now, we have our broth. put the tomatoes? >> be careful. i don't want to spill on you. >> one of my favorites from the book this recipe i took this for 45 minutes. we'll let that with the seasonings -- >> give me some of the seasonings. >> parsley, o regularrenoregano, salt. we can now add the vegetables. if i added it at one time, it'll cook down and be a mess. >> carrots, celery green beans, potatoes. >> you're the boss. you can do whatever you want as far as the vegetables. >> this is a tip i love. a lot of people love it watery. some like it thick. if you like it thick, take a little -- >> cream corn. add that in. it is a good -- oh i forgot y'all were over there. >> so good. >> what do you think? >> so good. >> wonderful. my dad adds a little horseradish to his vegetable beef soup, and that's phenomenal too. >> serve it with a crusty bread. >> great game day football food. happy everybody. >> what about a big fatake you big and fat. it is fabulous. caramer a oil in here. >> you do the oil because you don't want the onions -- >> oil. do you need a translator? o irksz o-i-l. sweat this down. don't do it fast. low and slow. take your time with it. these are perfectly caramelized onions for this dip. could not be nicer. we add that. then our room temperature cream cheese. >> low fat? >> really important. come on mat. you always do this to me. you know it is not low fat. like this. >> add our mayonnaise sour cream. ve our forworcestershire sauce. >> exactly. >> we'll mix this up. makes about two cups which is all you need. has to be served with a potato chip. don't get fancy with fine crackers because it won't work. hoda has the bag over there. she said forget it. give me the bag. so that is mixed all up. put it in the refrigerator and let the flavors medical for ss ss meld for a little bit. you have a fine dip on your hands. >> this is a good dip. >> this is the blue cheese dip. this is the killer. >> this is what we have?
