>> they work hard on vetting. they do the best they can. and i don't know what they did in that case. i'm not aware and not involved in studying it. >> there's investigations under way. if it turns out that general flynn lied on his paperwork for that application, or if he continued to work for a foreign interest while he was the national security adviser, he may have committed a felony. and it will fall on your department to decide whether to prosecute him or let him go. you have already recused yourself from investigations involving any coordination between trump associates and russian officials. does that recusal extend to this area? to general flynn? >> my recusal deals with the campaign issues. but i would expect not to be involved in this one. >> you would recuse yourself from any decision dealing with general flynn? >> i don't know if there's an investigation or should be. and we don't confirm investigations in the department of justice. >> real quickly, his attorney says he's got a story to tell. and they'ved asked for immunity to exchange for testifying. will he be given immunitimmunit? >> we'll see. the people to decide that will be the people to decide this. >> the president talked about this investigation from which you have recused yourself. the russia is a faux story. they use the russia story as a way to justify how they lost. your department of justice is investigating whether the trump campaign colluded with russia. is it a fake story or a real investigation investigation? >> that is to the matters of the new deputy. i recused myself to make the decisions. i'm not going to comment about the case. you know i can't talk about that case. >> but is it a legitimate area of investigation? >> i'm not going to go into that. i'm going to let the officials discuss it. >> do you agree with the president it's a fake story? fake investigation? >> i'll let others comment on that. >> we're almost at the 100-day mark. and the president said, about the job of the president, this is more work than my previous life. i thought it would be easier. what do you think of that? >> well, it is a tough job. i got to tell you. and he works so hard. i mean, this man has tremendous strength and energy. and he works into the night every night. and so, it is a tough job. my job is a 12-hour-a-day job also. i have to tell you. it's exiting and thrilling. every now and then you feel like you're making a contribution to america. and i'm sure the president gets satisfaction for that. >> he gets point of candor that this is harder than i thought it would be. he is realizing, health care is more complicated th ed than i t. the issue of the dynamic between north korea and china is not as easy. should he have been more prepared? >> i think he's prepared and has a good philosophy and approach to it. but carrying out the approaches and going through the minutia and the congress and all of the problems we have to execute change in america, is a real challenge. and it is frustrating, i'm sure, for businessmen on occasion. used to getting things done king quickly. >> the cia director said it was time to call out wikileaks for what it is, a hostile server embedded in places like russia. do you agree? >> we're having problems with leaks. some of this is very serious. not just a leak of abuse, a theft, or some whistle-blower or government. these are direct threats to the techniques and security procedures our government has. i'm worried about it. i think we need to do more to end this. we need to step up our efforts. >> do you afree with director pompeo, that wikileaks is a state actor, working at the behealb behest of a state like russia? >> we're going to do our best ability to analyze these matters. the cia director shares with us, leaks and things that are appropriate. and we investigate them appropriately. >> it does beg the question, duds bodoes it bother you that candidate trump would say, i love wikileaks? >> they were putting out information -- political information i'm sure he valued. >> it's okay to embrace that organization if they're helping you politically? >> no. there are limits on what you can do to take people's private information off their computers. there's limits of what you can do to share intelligence, top-secret information with our adversaries. >> that what you call a potpourri of poppic topics. >> thank you. the latest is promming calls for an investigation, while the inmate shook while strapped to the gurney. a reporter said kenneth williams appeared to convulse and jerk 20 seconds after the drug was administered. his attorney described that execution was horrifying. he is calling for a full investigation. a spokesman for arkansas' governor called it an involuntary muscular reaction. and says the state is unlikely to call for a review. now, to the high-profile trip by pope francis. in the wake of terror attacks on christian churches, security is a huge concern. keir simmons is in cairo. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning. on thetinry, a church that was hit by a suicide bomber in december. you can see why many are nervous and excited for this trip. a trip where the pope will meet the president of egypt, leaders of the muslim faith. he toughs down within the hour. pope francis, leaving rome earlier this morning. tweeting, pray for my journey. in egypt, preparation. isis struck churches here two weeks ago. and in february, an isis propaganda video urged follows to slaughter christians. the pope recording his own message. i am as a friend, a message of piece. the pope will travel in a closed vehicle, but not bullet-proof. >> we take the necessary precautions and the security takes care of us. >> reporter: egypt's security was criticized after bombs hit two churches in separate cities on palm sunday. 47 died. another attack before christmas, captured on security footage, a church packed with worshipers and then, an explosion. egy egypt's hard-line president, who has met the pope in rome, held a state funeral. more muslims are killed here than any other group. but isis has declared war on egypt's christian community. >> a lot of victims. >> killed innocent people for what? >> reporter: catholics are a small minority. >> we are asking ourself if the pope will come in this conditions. and he himself said, i am coming to egypt. >> reporter: today, he will reach out to all faiths. >> bring joy, peace and love. >> reporter: christians, fearful but defiant. despite the isis threat, churches in cairo this week, packed. officials tell me, isis fighters driven from iraq may be returning here to egypt. meanwhile, the government here has been criticized for a crackdown on islamists, opposition groups and journalists. you can see why, matt, this is a sensitive and high-risk trip for the pope. >> keir simmons in cairo. thanks very much. here at home, we're learning more about the settlement between united airlines and the passenger who was dragged off of a flight. tom costello has been on this one since the beginning. tom, good morning to you. >> reporter: hi, savannah. united airlines is opening that the turbulence by this debacle will start to settle. in lightning speed, since the incident occurred. this morning, united airlines is saying it's pleased to have reached an amicable resolution of what it calls this unfortunate incident. that incident, the brutal dragging of dr. david dao off of a united flight, that caused him to lose two teeth and suffer a broken nose and concussion. details of the subtlement are not being made public. but in a statement, united has taken full responsibility on what happened on flight 3411. united is to be applauded. the airline promising more training for difficult situations. creative solutions for agents. fewer overbooked flights. and up to $10,000 for passengers willing to be bumped for later night flights. >> we breached public trust. >> reporter: arthur munoz told lester holt, apologies is not enough. there has to be action. cell phone videos shining a spotlight on almost everything that happens onboard a plane. like the recent confrontation between a mother and an american airlines flight aattendant, ove the removal of the stroller from the plane, that left her in tears. a passenger removed from his flight, after getting up to use the restroom, during the critical moments while the plane was waiting to take off. despite instructions to stay seated. >> my bladder wasn't anything i had complete control over. >> reporter: the plane had to return to the gate, delaying takeoff. hamilton put on another airline for the flight home and refunded half the cost of his ticket. if the plane is moving on the ramp, you have to comply with the flight attendants' instructions. >> tom, thank you. a lesson on how not to approach a gas station. look at this surveillance video from detroit. a karl comes barreling in. running into the gas pump, on to the car in the next lane. there wasn't a fire. police believe the driver was fleeing the scene of another car crash, just minutes earlier. they're still looking for the suspect. >> something tells me there's more to that story. let's go to al. we had rain all week. have we earned a good weekend? also this morning, after facing its criticism for spreading fake news during the election, facebook is cracking down and shutting down tens of thousands accounts. nbc's gabe gutierrez is following this story for us. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. facebook is acknowledging what the intelligence community has been saying for months, fake news is all-too real. the social media giant is looking to combat what it calls information operations, that are trying to manipulate public opinion. this morning, facebook is waging war against the spread of fake news. >> they're just a bunch of fake users with online lives that you manage, right? >> that's a good question. >> reporter: have any of the democrats called you and asked why did this happen? >> not one. it goes back to the reason that donald trump won. politicians stopped listening to the little people. >> i lost my job. i'm in my 40s. i have to go back to school to be retrained to find something to support our family. they don't know what that struggle is like. >> reporter: back in february, dave hoped to see some results after 100 days. >> you know, i would like to see at the 100-day mark that ground has been broken on this new plant or they started looking at hiring. >> reporter: do you see enough news and information about his efforts on jobs? >> probably not. but i think there's a lot bigger, hotter topics right now, between syria and korea and all of that. >> reporter: do you think that donald trump can win erie again if he doesn't do something noticeable to the economy in erie? >> we're talking about the fact this is the most common illnesses of childhood adolescence. someone knows and loves these children. if it's not your son or daughter, it's your niece or nephew. it's autism, adhd, depression, obsessive compulsion disorder. all psychiatric illness, occurs before age 4 and before 14. that's when you should identify and treat it. if i have a symptom for ten years, much harder to treat than a symptom that's six months old. >> back to the numbers -- is it that they've increased or that we're more aware of them? what is happening that makes us feel this way? >> your immune system is going haywi haywire. it takes pollen, which is harmless. but it gets in your eyes and your nose, and your immune system goes on the attack. that's what causes the similar thomas. the itchy, watery eyes, congestion, runny nose. >> you have two camps. the people that suffer from allergies and those that don't. is it the luck of the draw? >> it is the luck of the draw. there's interesting science. kids that you up on farms, less likely to get allergies and asthma. and the thought is, we live such clean lives that our immune systems are not exposed to as many germs. and the immune system is always on the lookout of things concerning to it. if you're not exposed to germs, you're more than likely to have allergies. >> is it possible to take steps and do things to prevent the symptoms from coming in the first place? >> it is. this is what i tell people. if you can avoid the allergen, you're going to win. you're outside, wear big sunglasses. when you get home, go ahead and shut the doors and windows. run your air conditioning with a good air filter. vacuum regularly this time of year. personal hygiene is crazy. if you get home, put the clothes in the wash. and a lot of people forget to wash their hair. and they lay on the pillow and sleep in the pollen. >> not much of a problem for me. i'm one of the people that never had allergies until age 45 and then, they kick in. is that common? >> it's not uncommon. and there's no rhyme or reason. or sometimes people move to a new location and there's an allergen in the air that bothers them. >> you've gone through the symptoms, the clothes washing, taking a shower, the air felters. a lot of times you get to this season and think, do i have a cold? or is this an allergy? how do you know the difference? >> sadly, sometimes it can be both at the same time. the biggest difference is, with allergies, you're talking about itchy, watery eyes. if you have a clear discharge, it's really thin. a cold should be self-limiting in a week or two. you're going to have the mucus buildup. >> treat them differently or the same? >> the good news is a cold will go away on its own. what i say with allergies, you want to take control of your allergies before they take control of you. there's ways to diminish the effects of allergens these days. >> a lot of medications. you see the commercials and the magazines, the ads are in there. when do you know you need to see a doctor and not just work with something you're getting over the counter? >> you feel like allergies or you think they're allergies and they're controlling your life, i'd go see your doctor. the great thing is now, if you see an allergist, they can put a game plan in place. a lot of over-the-counter treatments, antihistamines, nasal steroids. if you figure out what's causing your symptoms, this is one thing in medicine we're effective at, treating allergies. see a specialist if you need to. >> we're going to put up information on our website, in particular, kids and allergies. >> absolutely. >> thank you. to check out "the doctors," check out your local listings. up next, a "today" exclus e exclusive, the daughter of the woman who touched readers before losing her life to cancer, opens up about her mother's legacy. first, this istoday" on nbc. all of the good loving goes in here. chicken, bacon, pasta, croutons. in here, salt, pepper, take krubed chicken breast, about a pound or so. this is a fun dish to make. this is extra garlicy. garlic salt and garlic and garlic powder. i have a can of olive oil. sheinelle can't even look at me. >> because it's so -- >> amazing? >> bad. >> the food is great. just the hair. >> in the pan here with olive oil is the garlic and the chicken. you will cook this about five or six minutes until it's golden brown. you take it here all the way cooked. >> you could put scallops in here. >> you can mix up a lot of it. you want to do lobster, get fantfan fancy. i couldn't put bacon in the cookies, i put it in this dare. you cook about six pieces of bacon. you chop them up. and you take the bacon love. add onion. add fresh tine. saute that for five or six minutes. once it's sauteed, you will add chicken stock. add cream. and chicken caesar, caesar dressing from the jar. once that's in there, mix, mix, mix. have it come to a boil. once it comes to a boil, it looks -- oh, my gosh. >> whoops. >> we're going to cook the spatula. >> the spatula is in the dish. so, you take this. now, you take the chicken, the bacon and the parsley. then, you take this guy right here. you strain your angel hair pa a pasta. once this is all mixed, you take that and mix these bad boys together. here's a trick. a lot of people didn't know. once al roker takes 15 minutes to mix this -- >> yes. >> you take cheese. this is parmesan. >> this is the pasta water. you put a lid on. don't fuss with it don't mess with it. >> how long do you leave it? >> about a minute or two and a beer. once you're done, the cheese hits on top. you get the cheese that's melted? it allows it to come together. once it comes all together, mr. roker, i can't take myself serious because i can't see my hair. angel hair pasta caesar. you take the croutons from a packet go on top. bacon and parsley go on top of this. and you have one of the most fun, inventive, different dishes. you go online -- you said this is a far stretch. but this is a shortbread -- get it, jenna?
