WCAU Today April 2, 2016

The northeast. Snow, below freezing temperatures and high winds making it feel like winter all over again. Dylan is tracking it all. Bull on the loose. A bull headed straight for the slaughterhouse gets a lastminute reprieve after breaking free. Running through the streets of new york city. This morning, he can thank Comedian Jon Stewart for a future that is looking brighter. Golden no longer. The Golden State Warriors doing something they have not done for 14 months. Losing a game at home by three points to the boston celtics. Ending an incredible 54game winning streak. Today, saturday, april 2nd, 2016. Announcer from nbc news, this is today, live from studio 1a in rockefeller plaza. Welcome to today on this saturday morning. Im erica hill. Im craig melvin alongside dylan dreyer and sheinelle jones. These people on the plaza had no idea they would get snow. Why are you blaming me . We always blame you. If you blame her for the bad weather, you have to thank her for the nice weather. We will get to weather in just a bit. Our top story is this allout push for the wisconsin vote on tuesday. On the republican side, it is shaping up to be a critical test of the stop trump forces. Now the republican frontrunner is on defense again for the stance on abortion. We have both the democratic and republican races. We have Kerry Sanders covering the story from wisconsin. Good morning. Good morning, erica. Donald trump finds himself in the position of being on the offensive. This morning, on the unusual and uncomfortable position of defense after stumbles of talking about abortion that continually require clarification. Reporter for the second time this week, donald trump forced to back pedal in the abortion debate. And telling nbc news to air on sunday. At this moment, the laws are set. We have to leave it that way. Reporter trump campaigns releasing a clarification. Stating mr. Trump gave an accurate account of the law as it is today and made clear it must stay that way now until he is president. Then he will change the law through his judicial appointments and allow the states to protect the unborn. There is nothing new or different here. Trump has had a rare week of relentless bad pr. Highlighted by the town hall on msnbc with chris matthews. Do you believe in punishment for abortion . There has to be some form of punishment. Reporter today, trump will have three events in wisconsin. A marquette poll shows ted cruz with an almost tenpoint lead over trump. And this week, cruz with the endorsement of scott walker. Walker with a high Approval Rating among voters. When ted cruz is able it win, we are able to help him win. Reporter the gop establishment hopes an embarrassing loss in wisconsin could be their chance to derail trumps momentum going into the home state primary in new york. They should see the republican establishment was pushing back at donald trump. This is where they decided to do it and do it most effectively. Reporter now last night, president obama took a veiled swipe at donald trump who has said he would not oppose japan and south korea getting nuclear weapons. The person who made the statements doesnt know much about Foreign Policy or Nuclear Policy or the Korean Peninsula or the world generally. How Donald Trumps statements on abortion could be interesting how it plays with women. Of course, we know other candidates and in other Political Races found statements on abortion issue since the roe v. Wade had an impact. Kerry, thank you. This morning, the vermont senator insisting the clinton team owes his team an apology after she accused him of lying of her record. We have Nbcs Kristen Welker in milwaukee. Reporter craig, good morning to you. Secretary clinton hoped to be focussing on the general election. Instead she is back here in wisconsin where she had added extra events to take on Bernie Sanders. Where she shows no signs of backing down. Thank you. Thank you, green bay. Reporter Bernie Sanders hoping a win on tuesday in wisconsin will make it four straight victories after trouncing clinton in the western caucuses last weekend. And then he slammed clinton for accusing him of lying about her record in the exchange with a protester earlier this week. I am so sick of the Sanders Campaign lying about this. Sick of it. Secretary clinton owes us an apology. We were not lying. Reporter the Clinton Campaign refusing to apologize. With just three days to go until election day, sanders holds on to a fourpoint lead in the state clintons team hoped to win. Beating clinton here would give him greater momentum heading back to new york where sanders is closing in on clintons lead. What i love about new york, you can knock us down, but you cant keep us down. Reporter greeting students at syracuse the day before the school plays in the final four. The democratic frontrunner identifying with the underdog. I said earlier today i am rooting for the home team. Reporter and taking it to sanders. My opponent talks about free college. You have to read the fine print. Anytime anybody tells you something is free, ask for the details. Reporter money is still pouring into the Sanders Campaign. 44 million in march alone. Why are you still undecided . Because so far all i heard is a lot of rhetoric between the candidates. What do one of the candidates have to do to win your vote . Talk about the issues. Thats it. Now if senator sanders wins in wisconsin, he will pick up more delegates. Mostly he will pick up momentum heading into new york. Both candidates have a party dinner here in milwaukee tonight. Craig. Kristen welker, thank you. Josh barrough is a contributor for nbc. And joan walsh is a political analyst. Nice to have both of you here with us this morning. When we look at the week that was for donald trump, a lot of bumps on the road. Multiple comments and changes with abortion and issues with the campaign manager. It is not the first time, josh, we have seen donald trump change position and quickly on an issue. Is anything different this time . I dont think nationally anything is different. I think people who care about the abortion issue or policy issues already were not with donald trump. Trump is about mood affiliation. He is angry. I think he had a bad week in wisconsin. I think the fight he picked with scott walker is stupid. He attacked walker for not raising taxing. That is a weird thing to do in a republican primary. Conservative talk radio is a force backing him usually. He will likely do badly wisconsin. We should not assume he will be punished nationally for these things. Joan, trumps disapproval with women is continuing to plummet. Quinnipiac says it is at 70 nationwide. Negative. Four years ago, mitt romney was about 40 . Assuming he is the nominee, how does a candidate like this go on to win a general election . There is no way he does that. I disagree a bit with josh. I think the abortion comments will hurt him a little bit. Anyone who is paying attention and has a feeling on abortion, pro or con, looks at that and says this man has never given this a thought in his entire privileged life. He used to be pro choice. Now antiabortion. He hasnt thought through why and what will happen. It really annoyed the pro life forces. They are mainly with ted cruz. I think it increases the notion along with his nuclear comments. This guy doesnt think things through well. When we look at the race in wisconsin, its looking very good for ted cruz. If cruz pulls out a win, what does it mean . It depends. For one thing, this is probably ted cruzs second more favorable state on the map. Only south dakota is better for him. We move into the northeast states which are more favorable to donald trump. It depends how much he wins. Wisconsin allocating for the state. That is a rule that is favorable to donald trump. He tends to do well in states with few republican voters. You get as many for central milwaukee as a rural area of the state. If he loses, he will pick up delegates. If he loses by more than ten votes, he may be shutout. If he loses by single digits, you can chalk that up to this was not a good state. Joan, quickly here on the democratic side, Hillary Clinton expected to lose in wisconsin. What, if anything, does that mean for new york . I dont think it means anything for new york. Sanders has had hard time with other wins and building momentum. Thank you for joining us. Thank you. Before you go outside, you may be want to bundle up. It is about to feel a lot more like winter. A big drop in temperatures in the middle of the country and then supposed to give a wintry blast to the northeast. Dylan is tracking all of that. Say it aint so, dylan dreyer. It is april. Windchill in detroit tomorrow morning, 14 degrees. Saranac lake, 2 degrees. The windchill in new york tomorrow morning is 24. High temperature rebound a little. Still about 10 to 15 degrees below average for highs. With the area of low pressure, two of them moving through the great lakes into the northeast. These can quick clipper systems to produce snow. Lakeeffect snow across michigan and western new york and western pennsylvania. Another one sunday night into monday with light snow off lake ontario and lake erie. We could see snow falling in boston. We do not have a lot of accumulation. In new york, we could see 8 to 10 inches of snow because of the enhancement off the great lakes. Parts of southern new england, a few inches of snow with the two clipper systems. Boston could end up with 2 to 4 inches of snow. In new york, we will see the snow fall, but not looking for it to accumulate. Dylan dreyer, thank you. Shifting gears as we turn to a terrible incident in new mexico.
