reporter: the two officers are at home with their families and they are expected to recover. meanwhile a senior law enforcement official told me while they have strong leads in the case at this point they do not have any suspects. as the intense manhunt continues overnight, so did the protests. overnight dozens of protesters gathered and chanted outside the ferguson police department as people here grapple with another outbreak of the violence that plagued this community for months. they cleared the streets and some were met with angry words. nothing like the night before. two officers were shot as they stood guard outside the police station, an intense manhunt still under way. >> it's an ugly reminder of what can happen. people out here want to hurt the police. >> three people were taken in for questioning and soon released. police say they don't have any suspects. president obama appeared on jimmy kimmel live and condemned the violence. >> it was oppressive and objectionable and worthy of protest, but there was no excuse for criminal acts. >> attorney general eric holder was more blunt. >> this was a damn punk. punk. >> one of the protesters hopes for the officers's recovery but is determined not to let the shootings slow their movement. >> what's the end game? >> the end game is to continue. continue to fight until we have a system that is going to be equal for scathing report with the police chief, the judge stepped aside and city manager stepped aside and they were telling me they want to see the mayor of ferguson resign as well. >> craig melvin in investigation stands and if they are closer to closing in on a suspect or suspects? >> they are working very hard and the community came tolg on this. there is a reward offer and many of the protests in the community have spoken out in dramatic terms about how disappointed they are that some thug would come to a peaceful protest site and commit a violent act like this against police officer who are doing their jobs. >> other jurisdictions commented they will manage security for any protests or demonstrations that happened there. are you concerned about a climate of danger about police wearing any uniform could be a target. >> this is a bigger issue than ferguson. we have a disconnect between communities and law enforcement. it only works if the people believe in it. we have to go back to the drawing board and get back to policing models. there is healing going on and there is reform going on. that needs to be happening in many communities across this country. >> that leads me to my next question. the municipal judge and the police chief. has ferguson done enough to clean house or do you think the federal government needs to shut this place department down? >> i think there a lot of discussions ongoing about the future of the ferguson police department. i want to point out that we have elections in a very few days. there new people who are running for office. we have three new council people in ferguson and hope they realize this is the moment where you exercise the muscle of democracy that you vote and participate. that's the other thing that has gone on. folks have not stepped up to be part of the government but criticize the government. >> let me try to pin you down. do you take a position on whether they should shut down the police department and dismantle it? >> they need to do what they are doing and tell the police department that some of the conduct they engaged in is unacceptable and they must change it. this will happen in a cooperative fashion moving forward. a lot of people are committed to the reforms. >> thanks for being here and we appreciate it. >> new developments on the fraternity scandal. the local chapter is considering taking legal action against the school for the way they're handling the incident. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. kfor reports that the local chapter, members and alumni held a meeting and decided to retain an attorney to consider options including the possibility of legal action. it is the latest in a scandal that rocked this campus. this shocking video sparked outrage and swift action from the university of oklahoma. kfor is reporting that the local chapter of sigma alpha epsilon hired steven jones who represent represented timothy mcveigh in the oklahoma city bombing trial. they are outraged about shutting doup the fraternity house and branding members as bigots. he said the two students who expelled apologized and lacked judgment in the social setting, but the fraternity should not be tarred and feathered as racists. some have questioned whether they violated free speech laws. >> they do have a first amendment law to express even repulsive points of view as long as they don't threaten a specific person. >> they call the racist behavior a horrible cancer that entered the house three or four years ago. they said they have not verified reports of the chant being dog remained by the man's side and was not harmed. they say the victim usually walks his dog with his daughter along the same route every night but she wasn't there that night. police believe that interview with us. a remarkable woman. >> i have to tell you, this one was tough. i have known her for over 20 years. one of daytime's most effervescent stars. known as b smith. b smith with style for almost a decade. she was a decorator and author and b smith did it all. it was a shock to her fans and friends when last year at 65 the one-of-a-kind woman revealed she was battling alzheimer's. i recently sat down with her and her husband for a candid conversation. >> you look as beautiful if not more than i have ever seen you. this position of alzheimer's, what's going on inside as opposed to outside. how do you deal with it? >> i deal with it in a practical way. i know that i have got a problem. it doesn't make me happy. sometimes it makes me teary. but because i have great support, i'm doing fine. i'm doing really good. >> b started noticing problems of forgetting two years ago. her husband started noticing changes. >> from being a multitask person to more of a sequential person which was different. or doing things that were a little out of the ordinary. like what was that? >> do you remember sitting in that doctor's office and getting that diagnosis? >> yes. i had tears in my eyes. at the same time i said i'm not going to give to it. i'm going to fight. i'm going to fight. >> when you heard this this is the woman you love and has been part of your life. what was your reaction? >> first of all, you don't believe it. there is total denial. you go to a point of anger and a point of frustration and sadness. you go to a point where you curse god and say why? she doesn't deserve this. if anybody didn't deserve it it's this woman. she is the sweetest human being bar none. nothing is mean or co95ing. you say why. after you curse god, you apologize. >> b and dan decided sharing her alzheimer's diagnosis with the public could bring awareness to the disease. even if at times she struggles to find the right words. >> i want people to know that i have early on set. >> it's tough. >> but i'm going to wash my tears and ton go back and be a better person than i have been in the past. >> that includes shooting a public service announcement for the brain health registry who needs more patients for clinical trials. >> i'm b smith and i suffer from alzheimer's disease. brain disease affects millions. unfortunately minorities are under represented. >> for b, the struggle continues. she became disoriented and wandered through new york city for over 17 years. >> i thought i lost her. it was like living in a nightmare, but you are awake. i got on my knees and prayed. >> when you saw dan and realized that he was there, how did you feel? >> a little bit like that girl. a little bit. but i wanted to be free. that's what i wanted. >> kind of a taste of your old life? >> yeah. uh-huh. >> she slept for a day. she slept for 18 hours. 16 or 18 hours. >> b and dan know they will continue to face challenges like these in the future but try to hold on to the present as much as possible. >> when you think about b, what do you think about? >> the first thing is to try to create the best possible moments we can have. if i had to do it over again, i would that you have to say that you got coverage or face a penalty. while you are filling out your taxes, you have to check a box whether you got it through an employer or through the exchange. if you didn't there is a new form 8965. it either says i'm exempt or have to pay a penalty. it's $95 an adult and up to $285 a kid. >> tax credit is the way to make tax credit more affordable. if you claim your credit you claim it when you bought your policy. thattic tas another form 8962. you will see i'm eligible for this. >> every year you use and spend the money in the flexible accounts. you may lose it. >> this year you will not lose it. they can allow them to roll over $500 for next year. check with your benefits to see if they allow you to do. if your company slid the deadline a bit to march 15th that gives you two days to use the money in your flexible spending account. to buy stuff like this that many people don't think qualifies. there is a website called fsa store.com. >> you tax refunds are being swiped. it's a form of identity theft. someone gets your social security number and file a tax refund in your name. we are seeing it in particular with the state. they are filing as if they were you and grabbing your refund. if you get a notice from the irs that someone else filed a social security number call the police and file a police report and let the irs know and put a
