>> yeah! dial an dryer is here until tuesday. literally. anyway this is the first clipper coming through. very light stuff and a few snow showers that will be the worst of it. it pushes through and moves through fairly quickly wednesday into tomorrow. it sets up off the coast for the secondary system. accumulated snow in southeastern massachusetts. big news will be the bitter cold. 9 in buffalo. 30 in washington, d.c. 16 in boston. saturday morning the temperatures drop. overnight of minus 1 and 14 in detroit. by sunday morning, it's 14. 6 in lexington. 2 in buffalo and the second storm is the one we are worried about. the snow will increase and it sets up off the coast bringing in strong winds at 15 miles per hour and dangerous wind chills. this is what we are concerned about. we are looking at heavier snow boston into new york. we could be talking about another six to nine inches of snow if the latest holes true. >> thank you. >> now we turn to a story that hits close to home for all of us who work at nbc news. brian williams who anchored nightly news since 2004 has been suspended for six months. peter alexander has more on that. good morning to you. >> good morning to you. it follows two weeks of scrutiny and uncertainty in the wake of comments he made about his experience covering the early days of the iraq war in 2003. brian williams has been suspended without pay for six months as both anchor and managing editor of nightly news that he held since 2004. the president announced it tuesday saying he misrepresented events of the iraq war in 2003 calling it wrong and completely inappropriate for someone in brian's position. williams did not say the helicopter he was in took fire. >> on the ground we learned that the chinook ahead of us was almost blown out of the sky. he told david letterman he was on the chopper that was hit. >> two of the four helicopters were hit by ground fire including the one i was in. >> no kidding! >> a week and a half ago he paid tribute to major tim who helped them after he landed. >> when the helicopter was forced down after getting hit. >> soldiers on the helicopters in 2003 questioned that account leading to this on air apology a week ago. >> i want to apologize for saying i was traveling in a helicopter that was hit. i was instead in a following aircraft. >> in addition to the suspension the internal review is ongoing. stating in addition we have concerns about comments that occurred outside nbc news while brian was talking about his experiences in the field. it has been widely reported that questions are raised about comments williams made describing coverage of hurricane katrina, including claims he saw a body floating outside his hotel in new orleans's french quarter. >> he has been an outstanding journalist and i think this was an instance where you can't find an excuse for it. that's why nbc had to act. >> the parent company of nbc news said by his actions he jeopardized the trust many place in nbc news. as actions are inexcusable and the suspension is severe and appropriate. his life's work is delivering the news. he loves his country, nbc news and his colleagues. he deserves a second chance and are rooting for me. he expressed deep remorse and is committed to winning back everyone's trust. they also announced that lester holt will substitute anchor the nightly news. matt and savannah? >> it's a question of timing and location. i think it's a valid concern, not only chris kyle day, but caps are told in the community and he is widely hailed as a hero. that's a valid concern for the defense. >> there will be a dispute about whether or not this defendant had ptsd. as a legal matter do they have to prove any particular illness and that he didn't know right from wrong? >> we should be clear and nobody is saying he is not responsible for the murder. the argument is the insanity defense. it's a very, very high bar. many have mental illnesses and they don't meet the standard for the instanity defense. they didn't know it was wrong and he fled after the incident. that's an indication he knows it was wrong. >> we should be clear it doesn't mean a defendant walks out the front door and is a free man. generally they go into a mental health facility and very often never get out. is that something the jurors will know? >> it's something they should be made aware of. the most famous texas defendant, andrea yates had been found not guilty by reason of insanity for killing her children and she will be in a mental institution for the rest of her life. >> they will get to the emotional part of this case. do you think that will be persuasive? clear his mind and relax and get that sleep. >> what's interesting is seeing him watch you. he really stares at your hand movements and that's part of the tools. >> he has hand signals that go with his skills. he is looking for the queues and always looking for rewards. he likes to watch me and that attentiveness is good. >> how is he evaluated from the job ahead? >> we go to puppy class every week as you saw on the film. there he gets to see the other puppies that are his age and are learning the same skills. we get to check in with our regional manager who helps us with problems we might have. it's good for him to get that. >> how is he doing. i saw you and wrangler in our concourse yesterday. how is he doing in everyday life situations? >> he is doing great. it's super important that some day when he is a guide dog that he is adaptable and can adapt to any situation he encounters out in the world. being here and being in the city and getting all these new experiences is great for him. he has been doing a great job. >> we noticed how big he is getting and he came close to jumping out of his pen over there. we are upgrading him today. we can now have a little bit of a sneak peek and walk over here and see wrangler's new home away from home. >> you are moving on up. >> good boy. good job. >> pull the cover off the new crate. explain why the crates are so good for young dogs. was the executive chef at and i had this meat loaf dish and i was blown away. i have to meet the chef. he was too busy and he blew me off. >> several times, right? >> i left and i came back that same night and i had the meat loaf dish again and this time he actually made time to speak with me. >> luckily i caught her on the way out and started walking by. the meat loaf brought us together. >> and the rest is history. you will share this meat loaf of love. it's so great, she had to meet you. what's in it? >> you start with a good piece of short rib. you season it. salt and pepper. nothing crazy. after you season t seer it and braise it. the braising can take about six hours or so. we braised this for a little while. we will pull this out. >> you want to shred it out nicely. >> that looks good. >> if you do it right, you can use a spoon or your hands. >> it's tender right? >> yes. we left it with carmelized onions and braised it for about six hours or less. >> once you have shredded it up it being loose like this? >> exactly. i have the shredded meat and i will add the carmelized onions. that are are that was cut out in one pot. >> exactly. i will take a little bit of this liquid. perfect. you are basically going to mix this up and season it a little bit. we have a little bit of extra salt and pepper. everything in that pan was stock and a little bit of salt pepper carmelized onions. super simple. >> it doesn't look hard. >> i'm going to mix this up. >> it's looking really, really good. >> i have a pan here with parchment paper. we will go straight into the pan. this is not your traditional meat loaf. >> this is not traditional anything. >> exactly. it's different. >> the meat loaf i grew up with was with ground beef. this is a high grade short rib. as you see, we are going to squish it in there. >> these cans are for weight. i don't want olives in the meat loaf. >> that are will hold it down. >> we will go into the refrigerator for about 24 hours. you can leave it for 48 hours, that would be ideal. this is one that we have. we used a pan from the restaurant. now, i'm going to flip this out. it will be noisy. perfect. >> the weight has smashed it together and it's chill and kind of gelatinized itself. it's meat. >> i'm going to cut it into pieces like two" by two inch. >> you want to seer it on both sides. >> we started these and they are starting to carmelize. you want to get a good seer and make sure it heats all the way through. >> with the mashed potatoes and the vegetables. >> you see ketchup on the meat loaf. we tookcooked down >> it's interesting. for years we have been saying if you eat too much cholesterol it raises your blood level. the science is not that simple. certain forms of cholesterol may not be so bad for you. the egg a day will not affect the majority of the people. saturated fats is much more of a danger. you need to look out for the fatty needs and whole milk. >> we have a lot of observation studies showing that people don't have more heart disease. a number of people including yours truly have published interventions that have given eggs every day and see no evidence of harm either on blood flow or cholesterol. the advisory committee caught up with the science and said other things are important. >> so we can eat all the eggs we want?
