Gorgeous start to the morning with nice temperatures and clear skies for the most part. Humidity still up a bit, but that will be drying as the day progresses. This morning the cub country is waking up to aftermath of the deadly violence that erupted yesterday at a White Nationalist rally in charlottesville, virginia. You can see a car barrelling into a crowd of Peaceful Protesters who came out to oppose the White Nationalist demonstrates. One was killed and others were hurt. 20yearold james field, jr. From ohio is charged with Second Degree murder. They arrested three other men at the rally as well. Fields is being held without bail. The fbi has announced its opening a civil rights investigation into exactly what happened. Late last night attorney general Jeff Sessions issued this statement on the federal investigation. It says in part the violence and deaths in charlottesville strike at the heart of american law and justice. When such actions arise from racial bigotry and hatred, they betray our core values and cannot be tolerated. The governor of virginia declared a state of emergency and issued a warning to those demonstrators. I have a message to all the White Supremacists and the nazis who came into charlottesville today. Our message is plain and simple. Go home. They were in charlets to protest the plan to take down a statue of robert e. Lee. Hundreds began clashing with those counterprotesters despite the city trying to shutdown the protest before it began. Two more deaths connected to the ral ein charlottesville happened when a state helicopter crashed in the woods a few miles away. You can see the smoke from this cellphone video. The pilot and the trooper were killed. At this point it appears theres no indication of foul play. President donald trump is taking some heat for this response. His reaction to the deadly violence. Take a listen. We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides. On many sides. Several Congressional Republicans went further than the president condemning White Supremacists and branding their tactics as terrorism. Folks in our area have been rallying against the violence. They say theyre out raged by the display of White Nationalist and supremacy. Meantime last nights a large demonstration here in philadelphia protesting against racism and the rise of these types of White Nationalist groups. Peaceful crowds moved through city hall and the streets of center city. And up in doylestown yesterday, a vigil with candles and music trying to bring peace to a tense situation. Some of the members actually traveled down to charlottesville to take part in the counterprotest, speaking out against these groups linked to White Supremacy. Just before midnight they found the man so badly beaten they thought he had been shot. Investigators tell us theyre not sure of the motive in this case and so far they have not made any arrests. Also this morning, grazed by gunfire. Philadelphia police say a man was hit by bullets as he stood on street on fail this morning. Roilgts now hes in stable condition at the hospital as Police Continue to look for the shooter. Neighbors who live on a relatively quiet street in philadelphia are remaining vigilant this morning after a woman was shot three times through her bedroom window. According to police two men were scoping out her house here yesterday. A woman inside woke up after hearing their voices. When she got up to look out and see what was going on, she was shot. You can see where one of the bullets went through her window. We did do some checking this morning. She is still in the hospital. Shes in stable condition. The officer is on paid leave while the investigation continues. Down south new orleans is working aggressively to repair pump that power the citys drain system. The mayor says right now most of the pumps are repaired. Theyre finished, but the city still remains at risk. We have enough power to handle an average rain amount. But we remain at risk in a major storm until we get additional turbines back online. So we are working very aggressively to do so. More rain this weekend could create street flooding. The city now says there are barricades in 20 areas that are prone to high waters. Today on had shore, a rally to say margays beaches. Meeting to express their out rage. A warning you may find some of this video disturbing. According to authorities a car plowed into a crowd of people of demonstrators killing a woman and injuring 19 others. More than a dozen other people were hurt at the rally. Two state Police Officers helping with the rally died when their helicopter crashed nearby. No foul play is suspected in that incident. The violence erupted when white nalgs haddests, kkk members and and ney nazi clashed with counterprotesters.
