it's going to be a good day for that because we don't have to worry about that chance of rain, at least not during the daytime hours. as we get into the evening, that chance of rain will return to the forecast. but if you have afternoon grilling plans you are good to go, and i know it's early but we have been up a while and that looks good. 62 degrees in philadelphia. we already see some clouds overhead we can see from our live camera, and some sun is breaking through as well. hazy this morning. and check out the temperatures, one station in parts of the pennsylvania suburbs. 48 degrees. 59 in parts of new jersey. 52 in the lehigh valley. 61 in delaware right now. we have this good mix of clouds and sun and winds that are not terribly strong currently, and we have some reporting northwest and some reporting southwest, and the wind should start to come in from the east later on today, but that has not started to shift over quite yet. and we have got some clouds in place, like i mentioned, but no rain to track and we don't expect to be tracking rain, instead of a lot going on to the west like we saw yesterday, today it's almost nothing and that's headed in the wrong directi direction anyway. here's the temperature trend in philadelphia, and we will talk about the forecast highs across the rest of our neighborhoods and we will get to our shore forecast coming up. >> thank you, krystal. and one person is injured in a house fire in philadelphia on 6th street and montgomery avenue. flames broke out in this three-story home around 4:45 this morning. crews have the fire under control. and here's a look at the scene. medics took the victim to the hospital and we are trying to learn their condition. as krystal mentioned, all eyes will be at the sky today, and outdoor fun is big for the thousands trying to soak up the sun there. nbc10's randy gyllenhaal is live in ocean city with more on the push towards summer. hey, randy. >> reporter: it's crisp and beautiful this morning in ocean city. you mentioned the skies. take a look up. a few more clouds than what we saw this time yesterday morning but it's still a good early morning here on the beach and we are expecting a beautiful day ahead. we already see some folks with metal detecters and also the sun rising over the atlantic ocean. yesterday was beautiful for a lot of folks headed out to the beaches but it was a bit chilly and a bit too cold to still go swimming, and so people were packing the beaches up and down the jersey shore, and great for businesses out on the boardwalk to see the families enjoying themselves. it's called the unofficial start to summer and that means a lot more action will be happening on the boardwalk over the next few months. we caught up with some folks that were watching the sunrise a few minutes ago, and they said there was a shower or two but they are still having a good time. >> beaches are open. >> we came down in the afternoon and came out a little later to play rugby when it started raining so there were not too much crowds but we had a good time. >> reporter: look at the sunrise just a few minutes ago coming up over the pier and a lot of people out this morning even though it's early. if we take a live at the boardwalk, we see kids running with their kids and taking a jog, and there are a couple of memorial day events to speak of, a memorial service to those who have fallen serving our country, and then a 5k race telling people to come out of your shell, summer has come and hit the beach and the shore. randy gyllenhaal, nbc10 news. people in cumberland county can spend part of their weekend at the millville air show. pilots and parachuters showed off their best stunts for the crowd and they will do the same thing today. keep track of are making the streets safer by confiscating the dirt bikes and off road vehicles, and officers arrested several people riding illegally in the streets. if i have to go through another fire to go get another baby, i'd do it. >> that's 17-year-old rudy edwards talking to nbc10 from his hospital bed at the children's hospital of philadelphia after he saved his 1 year aoe-year-old nephew fromg home, and family members say if it had not been for him the baby would have died in the fire. andrea thomas spoke to the hero. >> my granddaughter came upstairs and said there's a fire. >> the fire from the toaster oven spread quickly. >> i couldn't see anything. >> i did a head count and there was only four. >> reporter: a 1-year-old was still inside as the flames bill jord. >> and i came through the front door, and they said bryce is still in the house, and without hesitation i went inside the house to go and get him. >> rudy is edwards is 17 years old old, a tenth grader at overbrook high school. >> he coughed, and that's how i heard him on the couch, and i couldn't see and so i am tapping around and then i felt him. >> rudy grabbed his nephew is ran out of the house. >> it all happened in, like, 20 seconds, but it felt like a lifetime. >> right after rudy passed out overcome by the smoke, and his mother and uncle had to be treated, too. >> if i have to go through another today. today the winds are going to shift and will come in from the southeast. that's going to help our shore points cool today. hate to say that for people that may be going down or are already down there, and winds up to 15 miles per hour and gusts up to 20, and that's a little breezy, and 10-mile-per-hour winds and light breezes in the forecast today, and those winds will keep our temperatures, again, below average. let's talk about your beach forecast. let's start with bring ateen. mostly cloudy conditions and some peeks of sun especially starting off this morning. in wildwood, looking at a forecast for today also in the mid-60s with the mix of sun and clouds but we are dry throughout our beach forecast. cape may, same deal, warmer, up to 70 degrees is possible and cloudy conditions will progress throughout the day. today conditions are nice but the water is going to be cool. today it's clouds and some sun. tonight it's rain approaching us in the forecast. by midnight, starting to move in and that will last through your monday morning with spot early-morning thunderstorms possible and in the afternoon just a lingering shower and warmer temperatures, too, in the forecast. we russian facilities here in the u.s. yesterday reporters asked the president's team if it's appropriate for any white house official to do that? >> no, it's not something that we have been involved with. >> we are not going to comment on jared. >> we have back channel communication wz a number of countries, so i would not be concerned about it. >> his lawyer said that kutcher is willing to talk with investigators. the russia investigation will be part of the discussion on nbc's "meet the press" today, and john kelly and tennessee senator, bob corker, will be two of chuck todd's guests. after the memorial daybreak lawmakers will get the chance to question former fbi director james comey about private meetings he had with president trump. we know they met at least twice and the two men have different versions of what happened. rosemary conners and our partners, take a look. >> he's a showboat and a grandstander and the fbi has been in turmoil. you know that and i know that and everybody knows that. >> in an interview with nbc's lester holt, president trump defends his decision to fire james comey, and in the weeks leading up to that they met twice, they had dinner at the white house. president trump told holt he thinks comey asked for the meeting, but the former director of national intelligence, james clapper, tells a different story. clapper said he talked to comey that day at fbi headquarters. >> he was told by comey that it was at trump's request, and clapper sensed that comey was a little uneasy with it. >> several people close to comey anonymously said during the dinner, the president asked comey to pledge his loyalty to him. >> the president denies making that request. also, at the same dinner meeting, there was a discussion according to trump about whether trump himself was under investigation. >> i said, if it's possible, would you let me know, am i under investigation? he said you are not under investigation. >> comey's associates also reject that saying that comey did not say this at the dinner meeting or at any other time. >> on february 14th, the two men met privately again, shortly after the meeting, comey wrote a memo claiming the president asked him to drop the fbi investigation of michael flynn who resigned the day before as national security adviser. >> did you at anytime urge former fbi director james comey to close or backdown the investigation into michael flynn and also -- >> no. no. next question. >> the white house released a statement saying the reported memo is not a truthful or accurate portrayal of the history of decoration day. >> hundreds of veterans decorate with wreaths, flags, and rose pedals. >> if you don't mark those every year, they will forget the veterans and the stories of war. >> reporter: the presentation included many veterans themselves promising to keep the stories alive. >> there are a lot of veterans out here, and we do not want them to be forgotten here. >> reporter: drew smith, nbc10 news. now your nbc10 first alert weather. >> starting with the view in ocean city, new jersey. you see the sun breaking through. a nice shot to start off and the only problem is the shore will be a little chilly today, and that's because of the onshore breeze and that means we will keep the temperatures down cooler than what we saw yesterday. and then the neighborhood temperatures, across the region we have a few lows, 50s and 60s and it's about the same for our jersey shore neighborhoods. water temperatures in the low 60s, and actual temperature, stone harbor at 62. and then ocean 60 at 61. and so we have got these temperatures that are in the low 60s. the thing is with the wind it's going to be coming in today, and you can see from the arrows it will be coming in today from the east and it's going to keep us cool throughout the rest of the day so we won't see much of a bump up through the next hours. satellite view, we have clouds in place and areas of sunshine right now. it's a nice mix that will continue through the day. a mix of clouds and sun. here's the hour by hour forecast. starting this morning, doing a nice job of showing where the clouds are laying out. go into the afternoon and it will continue with the cloud and clearing mix. by 4:30 or 5:00, we may see light showers developing near mt. pocono, and berks county, and for most of us we are dry through the daytime hours. it's overnight the rain moves in. it will start light, let's say around 11:00 p.m. to midnight and will get heavier as we progress through the morning hours. here's 4:00 a.m., pockets of heavy rain and an isolated thunderstorm are possible. and then it's really afternoon heating that helps with the strongest storms, and you don't get that when you have storms pass at 4:00 a.m. and still that potential will be there through about 8:30 in the morning. then we start to see this move out and the rest of the day, mostly cloudy with some lighter isolated storms passing by, but it looks like the second half of the day will be better than the first half if you have anything going on for your memorial day. clouds are pulling out as we go into the night. here's sunday into monday forecast starting with temperatures today. 75 degrees in philadelphia, and 74 in the lehigh valley, but only 66 in the jersey shore. so that's what i was talking about, a little cooler. into monday, we have the potential of thunderstorms early on and then lingering shou wurbz t showers the rest of the day. 78 in the lehigh valley. ♪ ♪ >> it was an explosion of color and music at longwood gardens. the new show that has visitors thrilled. you are looking at video from new york city that shows a man taking a joyride on a bus. it was shot by a passenger in a car behind the bus on friday night. she says the man jumped on the bus as it drove through central park and didn't get off until several miles later where he ran away. this shows a new jersey transit train ride along the tracks with an open cabin door. a rider took the video friday evening, and a new jersey transit spokesperson said the door is supposed to close 30 to seconds after it opens but may have been set to manuel after boarding. this is a third time a similar problem has been reported in the last two weeks. students in new castle county are celebrating their graduation this weekend. it was held at the campus in newark yesterday. former governor was this year's commencement speaker. congratulations to all of the blue hens that got their diplomas yesterday. who doesn't like the beatles music to set the mood in chester county last night. long wood gardens, an array of color lights illuminated the performance of the spring water, along with fountain garden following a $5 krystal klei, who has the most accurate forecast in town. >> we will get a mix of clouds and sun and we are going to mostly dry. yesterday we had a few light showers passing through the area, and today is dry as can be. notice the sun, can you kind of see it but it's a little hazy, and a lot of areas are dealing with morning haze mixing with the clouds, and that will burn off as we warm up but this morning you may notice it. nothing to track on the board, and unlike yesterday there's still nothing to track, and you have a little rain right here and it's not moving in the right direction for us anyways, and it should fall apart before it makes it in our direction. we have clouds increasing throughout the afternoon hours. and temperature, still light jacket weather through the morning hours. 59 in lancaster, and 62 in philadelphia. and 59 in mount holly. you know yesterday in the afternoon, i was outdoors and i had on a short sleeved top and felt all right, and today will be, too. a pretty shot behind you. >> reporter: the sun has come up and all morning we have seen the heavy machinery going up and down the beach grooming the sand and beaches for the crowds expected today, but it's chilly so it's not the best swimming weather but people are dipping their toes in the water. on the pier, all the shops should be open in the next hour, and we will expect a lot of clouds walking up and down here. a good memorial day weekend for them means a lot of money coming in and good for the local economy. we chatted with a few folks here on the boardwalk a few minutes ago. >> the weather has been pretty good. we lucked out. at least half the days are nice. >> start of summer. beaches are open. >> not doing too much, relaxing and taking it easy. >> reporter: and there is a look at the sunrise coming up over the ocean city music pier, a beautiful shot there and a lot of people up pretty early today to watch that sunrise on this second day of the holiday weekend. we should note there are some big events happening up and down the jersey shore including the 5k turtle trot in stone harbor, and it's urging people to come out of their shells now that summer officially montgomery avenue. flames broke out inside the three-story home around 4:45 this morning. and crews arrived and brought the fire under control and we are still trying to find out one person's condition. and somebody was hit a car on will brook drive in willing borough last night. we are working to find out the victim's conand we will bring you more details as soon as we get them. praise this morning is pouring in for a teenager that risked his life to save his nephew from a burning fire. he told us he darted into the home in overbrook yesterday. he said his 1-year-old nephew was still inside when flames and smoke from a toaster oven bil w billowed out of the window. >> i heard him on the couch. i couldn't see, and i am tapping around and i felt him. >> it all happened, like, the sunlight and the haze, the picture is blown out here. you can tell by the flag it's not terribly windy out there, and it's as still as it can be and the haze is hanging around for your morning hours. and atlantic city getting up to 68 degrees today and we will see a mix of clouds and sun but leaning towards the cloudy side as we get into the afternoon. ocean city, same deal, and 66 for the forecast high. avalon, 66 degrees today. and a smidge warmer, up to 70 in wildwo wildwood. and so overall today looking at pretty good conditions when it comes to the beach except for temperatures being a little cool, you may want a light jacket if you are going to be out along the sand. and then it's a mix right now of the clouds and sun, and 11:30 this morning, still a mix of clouds and. 11:30 to 4:00 in the afternoon, now we see spotty showers. well, overnight that will turn into rainy conditions and even the possibility of isolated thunderstorms for early memorial day. we will talk philadelphia. nbc10 was on the scene at 6th street and montgomery avenue as it was breaking out. flames broke out inside the three-story home at 4:45 this morning and crews arrived and brought the fire under control, but, again, the new information is three people are dead as a result of the fire. the fire commissioner is about to give an update, and you can tap the nbc app and stay with us onair with updates concerning that. and then facing myrrh charges in what appears to be a hate crime. police say it happened on friday when this man, jeremy crist chr, screams anti-muslim comments to girls, one was wearing a head scarf. two men were stabbed to death when they came to their aid, and another man was injured. >> two people lost their lives. two families now have an empty seat at the dinner table. >> i was so scared. >> he was saying something about america, and this is a free country. >> christian is being held without bail. he has an extensive criminal past and a history of hate speech. the deadly stabbings came on the first day of the holy month of ramadan. and newark liberty international airport is back to normal. the discovery of a cooker inside a back evacuated the airport yesterday. the terminal was cleared for about an hour, and police gave the all-clear after no threat was found. they are checking surveillance video to try see who left it. british airways continues to fix a global computer failure that stranded tens of thousands of passengers. a flight from philadelphia to london also yesterday afternoon was canceled. british airways issued an apology that many passengers didn't seem to accept. >> we are extremely sorry for the huge inconvenience this is causing our customers. >> we have no bags. we have no hotel because everything is booked up and now we have to stay in london and spend over $1,000 for a hotel room and we're really, really, really angry. the airline hopes to restore full service sometime today. ♪ ♪ memorial day observances happening all this weekend. the united states arm kwry remembered those who made the ultimate sacrifice. this resting place of hundreds of veterans is now decorated with wreaths and flags. >> if you don't keep marking those graves each year, people will soon start to forget who the veterans were and if they forget the veterans they will forget the stories of war. and then a solemn ceremony was marked by the reading of the names of local men and women who were killed in action in 21st century conflicts. a legendary music duo for the first ever hoagie nation festival. daryl hall and john oats played for the crowd last night and they created the music tpers that they call a celebration of philadelphia. people traveled from all over to watch the seugss play on thrmus three stages. they had pretty decent yesterday looks of the video. it's 7:10 right now, and it looks to be a good start, and krystal klei is here. >> we really lucked out with the forecast. a week ago models were trying to give us on and off rain through most of the long weekend and now the rain is focused in the overnight and early morning hours of tomorrow, so things are good for today. this is a view from city, pennsylvania. what we see is the hazy view outside. we have been dealing with it through all of the camera shots this morning. the haze will burn off of it, and for now you will deal with that. the view is kind of similar, again, a little bit of a haze outside, but overall fairly nice conditions with a mix of clouds and sun. and temperatures, down to 61 degrees. and clayton at 62. audubon, same deal, 62. and robinville at 58. cooler up to princeton at 51 for the current reading. as we progress through today, though, you don't have to worry about the light jacket you will start with because we will get into the mid-70s and it should be nice. we will start with our philadelphia neighborhoods. mid-60s to start and you have a peek of sun but mostly cloudy, and that's the theme we have been seeing this weekend. 75 is the forecast high today. in the bersuburbs, 72 degrees a lunchtime. and then in delaware, low 70s around your lunch hour. outdoors for the barbecue in new jersey, 74 degrees and staying around there for the afternoon. at the shore, water temperature about 62 degrees and actual temperatures only 66. unfortunately while you can head down to the shore you will be a little chilly if you don't have the jacket. here's part of the reason why. it's cooler today than yesterday at the shore, we have the onshore winds and all of the shore points stay a little chillier than the 70s that a lot of us will be experiencing today. and the winds will be coming in from the southeast for our sunday. here's the hour by hour starting where we left off a few minutes ago. now looking at 6:30 tonight, lingering showers that are hanging over the lehigh valley berks county, and that's when the rain moves in around midnight, and starts as light and spotty rain but the heavier stuff moves in through the early morning hours. could hear a rumble of thunder, and then this will start to move out, still some rain through 8:30 this morning, and then as we get into the afternoon hours of your
