forecast gets interesting come monday. stick around i'll be back with the seven day. >> now to breaking news from philadelphia's point breeze neighborhood where a cab driver was shot crashed his van. nbc 10 drew smith is live on the scene. drew, you spoke to a witness out there? >> reporter: yeah. she heard this happen. it was actually a crash that alerted her to the shooting and the incident out here. can you take a look at the cab driver right here the cab car right here on morris street. the tire you can see is flat. it's kind of smashed away and there's some cars right behind there that are also damaged. we got some new information. the cab dispatcher said the cab's last pick up was at broad and morton about a five minute drive from here. we're block up from point breeze avenue. this happened at 3:30 this morning. police telling us a 38-year-old man was shot here and he is in stable condition. but there was no arrest. police came. they picked up that cabbie and got him the hospital. listen to what a witness says happened next. >> came outside to see what was happening and i saw a cab in the middle of the street and there were people in the cab saying let us out, let us out and they were kicking and rocking the cab. >> reporter: that witness told us that those two witnesses walked away from the scene. she said that she was telling them that they should stop and speak to police like she did. she just gave a statement to detectives who are still here on the scene just behind our camera. so she wanted to know where those folks go. we'll talk to police and ask them what they are looking for now in terms of suspect or suspects. we're live in point breeze. i'm drew smith, nbc 10 news. >> morning police in chester county are looking into hazing allegations involving the football team at conestoga high school. investigators tell us the alleged hazing involved current and former players, but they won release any further details. the school district said they are working with law enforcement but so far the school has not conducted its own investigation. we spoke to some students last night who say the hallways are buzzing about the allegations but one senior tells us they are not true. >> the thing here is that with the football team they are boys in the locker room, you know, stupid things are going to happen but nothing to the degree that is going around. >> the allegations come after a recent sexting scandal at the cool in which one conestoga student was charged with sending sexually explicit images. student say the alleged incidents is hurt the school's reputation for academic excellence. >> our students work hard. they get insane grades. to be back in the news for all this negative stuff, it's like ruining the school's really good reputation. >> as for the alleged hazing the school district is telling parents to call authorities if their children have any information. let's head now to norristown where the community is mourning the loss of a 12-year-old boy who was killed trying to rescue his father from a raging house fire. the boy rushed back into his burning home looking for his dad. the father escaped but the boy did not. 12-year-old sanford harling went back into that street on markley street yesterday morning. his father was recovering from surgery and harling thought that maybe his dad was trapped. but the father jumped from a window. >> kids like sanford they just want to succeed, they want tube part of positive things. sanford was resilient. just always active. always involved. >> as the family makes plans for funeral arrangements and to find a place to live, a go found me page has raised more than $15,000 for them. sky force 10 was over the scene last night where a man was shot right in of his house. at ground level you can see a number of police officers doing their investigation in voorhees. no word on the victim's condition and what led up to the shooting. a developing story from overseas. 11 people including an instant are dead and00 more are hurt after an earthquake struck taiwan early this morning. the 6.4 magnitude quake toppled two high rise residential buildings. most people were asleep when the earthquake hit. video from the city of tainan shows firefighters and crews rescuing people from the rubble. what you're seeing right now are some babies who survived the ordeal. crews also used cranes to search dark areas of the collapsed building for any survivors. people across the island of taiwan and as far away as mainland china saying they felt the quake. back here, an urban terrorist. that's what upper darby's police chief is calling this man you see right here. he's accused of trying to rob a 7/eleven. the suspect is accused of shooting a clerk thursday somebody opened fire inside of a strip club in tampa, florida. police say they believe a dispute led to the gunfire. no further details. now to some new video of a dramatic rescue on a california bridge. a man was spotted walking on the edge of the fresno bridge. the man slipped and the officer ran to grab him. they struggled and the man to throw himself off the edge. two men in a truck stopped to help. the man was finally taken into cuss. some streets in manhattan remain closed this morning after that dead crane collapse. one person is dead and three others are hurt after the 15 story crane toppled yesterday morning. the crane was being lowered and secured because of winds. they were topping out aintrod a miles per hour. the crane landed on some parked cars stretched over two blocks. it was like an earthquake. it was really trembling all over. this could have been incredible, much bigger accident that could have killed so more people. >> the collapse did kill a 38-year-old mathematician who worked on wall street. two by standers hit by debris are in serious condition while a third person has some minor injuries. investigation into what cause this collapse is ongoing. out west the coast guard is searching for three people who were on board two small planes that collided off the coast of los angeles. rescuers did find debris but there's no sign of any survivors. the mid-air collision happened a3:30 yesterday afternoon. searchers belief the wreckage may be in 80 to 90 feet of water. this morning we have some new information on a mass killing in chicago. police now say they believe six family members found beaten to death inside their home on thursday were targeted for murder. the victims include four adults and two ages 10 and 13. police say the killings could have happened during a robbery or domestic incident. they say there's no sign of forced entry and that the home had not been ransacked. crews in arizona have recovered the body of a man who fell into a singer hole. witnesses say the man disappeared in a field after walking behind his farming vehicle. the hole what swallowed the victim was 50 feet across and 15 feet deep. field was being irrigated and may have caused the sinkhole. now to decision 2016. tonight is debate night for the republican presidential candidate in new hampshire. the primary there is on tuesday. the latest survey shows senator marco rubio gaining quite a bit of ground. the nbc/"the washington post"/maris poll shows rubio surging. speaking of chris christie the new jersey governor is hoping to finish in the top of candidate in new hampshire. he spent quite a bit of time there. he told rachel maddow there are distinct differences among voters in iowa, new hampshire and even in the garden state. >> iowans are outbreak. yesterday the senators sent the president a letter calling for him to come up with a plan to battle the spread of the virus both here at home and abroad. the zika health emergency began in brazil last year. it's now causing birth defects in center america and mexico and there is one case in texas. mosquitos transmit the virus but there's growing evidence it can be passed to others through sexual contact. the cdc is now out with some new guidelines for pregnant women. the cdc says if their partners have been in countries where the virus is spreading, expectant mothers should earth abstain from sex, use protection until their near tests negative for zika or until the baby is morn. >> health officials in montgomery county say three student have whopping cough. they are in the fourth grade. the district tells nbc 10 school administrators have called and emailed parents to notify them about what happened. according to health officials all three students have been vaccinated for whooping cough. >> all three of these children because they had their full immui immunizations have mild to moderate illness. >> children can go back to school after several days of antibiotics. montgomery had seven reported cases of whooping cough so far this year. good morning. i'm meteorologist karen thomas. a cold start to your saturday for sure. the forecast for the weekend is going to be dry. really direct. but then when we get to monday not so easy of a forecast. we're tracking the possibility of some snow coming back into our seven day forecast for monday, tuesday. i'll tell you more about that as we move closer and then frigid temperatures towards the end of the upcoming work week. we're cold this morning but getting colder as we move on through the coming with philly checking in at 30. 21 in atlantic city. 28 degrees in dover, delaware. temperatures will bump just a little bit. right now we got winds out of the west-southwest fairly calm, light winds for philly at five and three miles per hour in wilmington. so a little bit of wind chill factored in early this morning as i said you want to bundle up. we are dry. we'll stay dry for our saturday with a few clouds pushing in from the that you see here, a few light cirrus clouds moving into the picture. so easy forecast for saturday/sunday. computer model still not in agreement for what's to come for monday and tuesday. one model here just showing us that as we get closer to monday morning this time 11:00 a.m. looks like a rain/sleet mix coming on shore jersey, south jersey as well as delaware. two systems coming together. a little bit of phasing if this model is to be believed monday 10:00 p.m. so we got the snow for just about all the area with the exception of extreme south jersey and then some snow shower activity waking up tuesday morning at 6:00 a.m. we know the systems are developing, what we're trying to sort of just wait on is the coming together of the snow models and seeing how these systems actually track in our area starting monday for tuesday and very early wednesday morning. for today, those just a really nice february day. 43, 45 degrees for high 6:31. we're following breaking news from philadelphia's point breeze neighborhood. where a cab driver was shot and crashed his van overnight. nbc 10's drew smith is live at the scene with some new information for us. drew? >> reporter: that cab driver is now at the hospital. we're told he's in stable condition. but take a look at his cab. the front all smashed up and is sitting right here in the middle of morris street and 23rd. police respond around 3:30. neighbors tell us they heard a crash from inside hair homes. they came out. the cab ran into a few parked cars before coming to a stop. witnesses say they came outside to find two passengers, a man and a woman in the back yelling to be let out. they also saw police taking the cab driver to the hospital. but listen too witness describe what happened after those two passengers exited the car. >> i said well you're witnesses, where your going? oh, yeah we sure did. they hit your car. he hit them on purpose and then they kept going. i was like where your going. at that time another cop was coming in to the block and another one was coming up block. >> reporter: it's unclear if those two passengers spoke to police or where they. the woman you just from did give police a statement. we saw her doing that made an arrest so far in this case. according to the cab dispatcher the van's last pick up was at broad and morton street which is about five minutes from where we are in point breeze. thanks for that, drew. o a little bit boy killed in a fire in norristown success hailed a hero this morning he died trying to save his father from a raging house fire. the boy rushed back into this burning home yesterday morning looking for his dad. the father escaped but the boy did not. 12-year-old sanford harling went back police on a chase for 25 miles. the driver's car went into a cul-de-sac and then right into this ditch. davis is now in the hospital recovering from his injuries. he's being charged with several crimes. police say they were able to locate the suspect because store employees put tracking devices on the stolen phones. declaring bankruptcy. that's what atlantic city's mayor says his city will have to do if it's forced to pay millions of dollars owed to the borgata. a judge said the city must pay the casino $62 million in tax refunds. casino could not take any of the city's assets for at least 45 days. that will give both sides time for settlement talks. bore fwata says it will stop making current tax payments until the case is resolved. atlantic city is dealing with deep budget problems caused by years of decline for the casino industry. state officials accuse the stiff over spending and financial mismanagement for decades. lawmakers are considering giving the statewide calm right now. so we do have a few clouds around just a pillowy cirrus type clouds waiting for the sun to come up. what about the snow? we're looking for tranquil elements today, tomorrow, fair forecast. then when we get to overnight sunday into monday morning, one model does have a system moving up the coast and that could skirt south jersey and southern delaware. overnight monday into monday morning. so by monday morning into monday night we'ring for some scattered snow showers mixed with rain, especially down in southern delaware and south jersey and overnight monday into tuesday this particular model having snow moving into the area. doesn't look like a huge storm right now but we are really just checking to make sure these models come together and the track and the intensity of the system will make the difference. a little far out. 43, 45 for high temperatures across the region. we'll go ahead and show you the seven day forecast. as i said, really things calm and quiet, nice saturday, sunday. we get mild tomorrow with a temperature bump of about 48 degrees and then we'll be watching these coming in for monday and tuesday. potentially bringing us some snow, a mix of forecast gets interesting come monday. stick around i'll be back with the seven day. >> now to breaking news from philadelphia's point breeze neighborhood where a cab driver was shot crashed his van. nbc 10 drew smith is live on the scene. drew, you spoke to a witness out there? >> reporter: yeah. she heard this happen. it was actually a crash that alerted her to the shooting and the incident out here. can you take a look at the cab driver right here the cab car right here on morris street. the tire you can see is flat. it's kind of smashed away and there's some cars right behind there that are also damaged. we got some new information. the cab dispatcher said the cab's last pick up was at broad and morton about a five minute drive from here. we're block up from point breeze avenue. this happened at 3:30 this morning. police telling us a 38-year-old man was shot here and he is in stable condition. but there was no arrest. police came. they picked up that cabbie and got him the hospital. listen to what a witness says happened next. >> came outside to see what was happening and i saw a cab in the middle of the street and there were people in the cab saying let us out, let us out and they were kicking and rocking the cab. >> reporter: that witness told us that those two witnesses walked away from the scene. she said that she was telling them that they should stop and speak to police like she did. she just gave a statement to detectives who are still here on the scene just behind our camera. so she wanted to know where those folks go. we'll talk to police and ask them what they are looking for now in terms of suspect or suspects. we're live in point breeze. i'm drew smith, nbc 10 news. >> morning police in chester county are looking into hazing allegations involving the football team at conestoga high school. investigators tell us the alleged hazing involved current and former players, but they won release any further details. the school district said they are working with law enforcement but so far the school has not conducted its own investigation. we spoke to some students last night who say the hallways are buzzing about the allegations but one senior tells us they are not true. >> the thing here is that with the football team they are boys in the locker room, you know, stupid things are going to happen but nothing to the degree that is going around. >> the allegations come after a recent sexting scandal at the cool in which one conestoga student was charged with sending sexually explicit images. student say the alleged incidents is hurt the school's reputation for academic excellence. >> our students work hard. they get insane grades. to be back in the news for all this negative stuff, it's like ruining the school's really good reputation. >> as for the alleged hazing the school district is telling parents to call authorities if their children have any information. let's head now to norristown where the community is mourning the loss of a 12-year-old boy who was killed trying to rescue his father from a raging house fire. the boy rushed back into his burning home looking for his dad. the father escaped but the boy did not. 12-year-old sanford harling went back into that street on markley street yesterday morning. his father was recovering from surgery and harling thought that maybe his dad was trapped. but the father jumped from a window. >> kids like sanford they just want to succeed, they want tube part of positive things. sanford was resilient. just always active. always involved. >> as the family makes plans for funeral arrangements and to find a place to live, a go found me page has raised more than $15,000 for them. sky force 10 was over the scene last night where a man was shot right in of his house. at ground level you can see a number of police officers doing their investigation in voorhees. no word on the victim's condition and what led up to the shooting. a developing story from overseas. 11 people including an instant are dead and00 more are hurt after an earthquake struck taiwan early this morning. the 6.4 magnitude quake toppled two high rise residential buildings. most people were asleep when the earthquake hit. video from the city of tainan shows firefighters and crews rescuing people from the rubble. what you're seeing right now are some babies who survived the ordeal. crews also used cranes to search dark areas of the collapsed building for any survivors. people across the island of taiwan and as far away as mainland china saying they felt the quake. back here, an urban terrorist. that's what upper darby's police chief is calling this man you see right here. he's accused of trying to rob a 7/eleven. the suspect is accused of shooting a clerk thursday somebody opened fire inside of a strip club in tampa, florida. police say they believe a dispute led to the gunfire. no further details. now to some new video of a dramatic rescue on a california bridge. a man was spotted walking on the edge of the fresno bridge. the man slipped and the officer ran to grab him. they struggled and the man to throw himself off the edge. two men in a truck stopped to help. the man was finally taken into cuss. some streets in manhattan remain closed this morning after that dead crane collapse. one person is dead and three others are hurt after the 15 story crane toppled yesterday morning. the crane was being lowered and secured because of winds. they were topping out aintrod a miles per hour. the crane landed on some parked cars stretched over two blocks. it was like an earthquake. it was really trembling all over. this could have been incredible, much bigger accident that could have killed so more people. >> the collapse did kill a 38-year-old mathematician who worked on wall street. two by standers hit by debris are in serious condition while a third person has some minor injuries. investigation into what cause this collapse is ongoing. out west the coast guard is searching for three people who were on board two small planes that collided off the coast of los angeles. rescuers did find debris but there's no sign of any survivors. the mid-air collision happened a3:30 yesterday afternoon. searchers belief the wreckage may be in 80 to 90 feet of water. this morning we have some new information on a mass killing in chicago. police now say they believe six family members found beaten to death inside their home on thursday were targeted for murder. the victims include four adults and two ages 10 and 13. police say the killings could have happened during a robbery or domestic incident. they say there's no sign of forced entry and that the home had not been ransacked. crews in arizona have recovered the body of a man who fell into a singer hole. witnesses say the man disappeared in a field after walking behind his farming vehicle. the hole what swallowed the victim was 50 feet across and 15 feet deep. field was being irrigated and may have caused the sinkhole. now to decision 2016. tonight is debate night for the republican presidential candidate in new hampshire. the primary there is on tuesday. the latest survey shows senator marco rubio gaining quite a bit of ground. the nbc/"the washington post"/maris poll shows rubio surging. speaking of chris christie the new jersey governor is hoping to finish in the top of candidate in new hampshire. he spent quite a bit of time there. he told rachel maddow there are distinct differences among voters in iowa, new hampshire and even in the garden state. >> iowans are outbreak. yesterday the senators sent the president a letter calling for him to come up with a plan to battle the spread of the virus both here at home and abroad. the zika health emergency began in brazil last year. it's now causing birth defects in center america and mexico and there is one case in texas. mosquitos transmit the virus but there's growing evidence it can be passed to others through sexual contact. the cdc is now out with some new guidelines for pregnant women. the cdc says if their partners have been in countries where the virus is spreading, expectant mothers should earth abstain from sex, use protection until their near tests negative for zika or until the baby is morn. >> health officials in montgomery county say three student have whopping cough. they are in the fourth grade. the district tells nbc 10 school administrators have called and emailed parents to notify them about what happened. according to health officials all three students have been vaccinated for whooping cough. >> all three of these children because they had their full immui immunizations have mild to moderate illness. >> children can go back to school after several days of antibiotics. montgomery had seven reported cases of whooping cough so far this year. good morning. i'm meteorologist karen thomas. a cold start to your saturday for sure. the forecast for the weekend is going to be dry. really direct. but then when we get to monday not so easy of a forecast. we're tracking the possibility of some snow coming back into our seven day forecast for monday, tuesday. i'll tell you more about that as we move closer and then frigid temperatures towards the end of the upcoming work week. we're cold this morning but getting colder as we move on through the coming days. 30 degrees right now in philadelphia. winds out of the west at five. temperatures across the region on the chilly side for sure. 19 degrees in the poconos. mainly in the 20s every where else with philly checking in at 30. 21 in atlantic city. 28 degrees in dover, delaware. temperatures will bump just a little bit. right now we got winds out of the west-southwest fairly calm, light winds for philly at five and three miles per hour in wilmington. so a little bit of wind chill factored in early this morning as i said you want to bundle up. we are dry. we'll stay dry for our saturday with a few clouds pushing in from the that you see here, a few light cirrus clouds moving into the picture. so easy forecast for saturday/sunday. computer model still not in agreement for what's to come for monday and tuesday. one model here just showing us that as we get closer to monday morning this time 11:00 a.m. looks like a rain/sleet mix coming on shore jersey, south jersey as well as delaware. two systems coming together. a little bit of phasing if this model is to be believed monday 10:00 p.m. so we got the snow for just about all the area with the exception of extreme south jersey and then some snow shower activity waking up tuesday morning at 6:00 a.m. we know the systems are developing, what we're trying to sort of just wait on is the coming together of the snow models and seeing how these systems actually track in our area starting monday for tuesday and very early wednesday morning. for today, those just a really nice february day. 43, 45 degrees for high people climbed nearly 200 feet to the top of the dominator ride and took a blue and white dorney park flag. if you recognize these suspects call south whitehall township police. speaking of dorney 6:31. we're following breaking news from philadelphia's point breeze neighborhood. where a cab driver was shot and crashed his van overnight. nbc 10's drew smith is live at the scene with some new information for us. drew? >> reporter: that cab driver is now at the hospital. we're told he's in stable condition. but take a look at his cab. the front all smashed up and is sitting right here in the middle of morris street and 23rd. police respond around 3:30. neighbors tell us they heard a crash from inside hair homes. they came out. the cab ran into a few parked cars before coming to a stop. witnesses say they came outside to find two passengers, a man and a woman in the back yelling to be let out. they also saw police taking the cab driver to the hospital. but listen too witness describe what happened after those two passengers exited the car. >> i said well you're witnesses, where your going? oh, yeah we sure did. they hit your car. he hit them on purpose and then they kept going. i was like where your going. at that time another cop was coming in to the block and another one was coming up block. >> reporter: it's unclear if those two passengers spoke to police or where they. the woman you just from did give police a statement. we saw her doing that made an arrest so far in this case. according to the cab dispatcher the van's last pick up was at broad and morton street which is about five minutes from where we are in point breeze. thanks for that, drew. o a little bit boy killed in a fire in norristown success hailed a hero this morning he died trying to save his father from a raging house fire. the boy rushed back into this burning home yesterday morning looking for his dad. the father escaped but the boy did not. 12-year-old sanford harling went back high-speed chase. the suspect is henry davis iii. accused much stealing cell phones at a verizon in the store philadelphia. also accused of tying up employees there and then leefdileefd i -- leading police on a chase for 25 miles. the driver's car went into a cul-de-sac and then right into this ditch. davis is now in the hospital recovering from his injuries. he's being charged with several crimes. police say they were able to locate the suspect because store employees put tracking devices on the stolen phones. declaring bankruptcy. that's what atlantic city's mayor says his city will have to do if it's forced to pay millions of dollars owed to the borgata. a judge said the city must pay the casino $62 million in tax refunds. casino could not take any of the city's assets for at least 45 days. that will give both sides time for settlement talks. bore fwata says it will stop making current tax payments until the case is resolved. atlantic city is dealing with deep budget problems caused by years of decline for the casino industry. state officials accuse the stiff over spending and financial mismanagement for decades. lawmakers are considering giving the statewide power, broad power over the city's operations. if that happens, the state would gain control of selling off city assets, including land. a real housewife star is lucky to be out of her house. she's starting out on a cold note. we're tracking some more snow in our seven day forecast, watching these systems pull together. more on that in just a bit. turning much colder mid-week towards the end of the work week. just some of our weather headlines for you as we move on into our saturday morning. 30 degrees right now at philly international. winds at 5 miles per hour out of the west. beautiful day for the slopes up there in camelback mountain but a chilly start for sure. 19 degrees, 21 in allentown, 23 degrees in trenton. 30 right now in philadelphia. little cold the shorer at the s. temperatures will be bumping just a bit. winds will shift and expect winds to stay on the light side but the breeze will pick up a bit at five to ten miles per hour. but for the most part things are calm right now. so we do have a few clouds around just a pillowy cirrus type clouds waiting for the sun to come up. what about the snow? we're looking for tranquil elements today, tomorrow, fair forecast. then when we get to overnight sunday into monday morning, one model does have a system moving up the coast and that could skirt south jersey and southern delaware. overnight monday into monday morning. so by monday morning into monday night we'ring for some scattered snow showers mixed with rain, especially down in southern delaware and south jersey and overnight monday into tuesday this particular model having snow moving into the area. doesn't look like a huge storm right now but we are really just checking to make sure these models come together and the track and the intensity of the system will make the difference. a little far out. 43, 45 for high temperatures across the region. we'll go ahead and show you the seven day forecast. as i said, really things calm and quiet, nice saturday, sunday. we get mild tomorrow with a temperature bump of about 48 degrees and then we'll be watching these coming in for monday and tuesday. potentially bringing us some snow, a mix of
