clear, but we know it's not going to stay that way. >> exactly, rosemary. maybe you want to wake up and get outside earlier than normal today simply because it's a split day. the morning is starting out with bright sunshine most everywhere, so it's looking pretty nice this morning, but then clouds are expected to roll in this afternoon. then we do have rain and potentially some thunderstorms moving through later on in the day. but currently 55 degrees in philadelphia. watching the sun come up. clear skies there. the burbs, 50 and a little cooler. new jersey, 52 with mainly clear skies, partly cloudy skies and fog in the lehigh valley. 53 degrees. and 53 degrees in delaware. so our winds checking in right now out of the west primarily. five miles per hour in wildwood, six in wilmington and 5 miles per hour in philadelphia. we expect the winds to increase later today after the cold front makes its way through this evening. we're dry for now. radar doesn't show us any rain until we pull out and we can see back here in the ohio valley. this is a cold front moving west to east and it's moving pretty quickly. we expect it to get into our area later this afternoon after 1:00. however, we could see some popup spritzers before this system actually comes right on through with the cloud cover as well. so we are expecting the clouds to start funneling into our area midday and then later on in the afternoon. again, hang on to the umbrellas if you're outside. if you hear rumbles of thunder get inside. there is convection inside the system. sort of in the warm sector, but we are going to cool down after that front moves through. i'll tell you more about the cold air funneling in in just a bit. rosemary. we have new information on breaking news we first told you about last night at 11:00. a man is charged in connection with throwing railroad spikes off a philadelphia overpass. the spikes hit some cars, causing damage and injury. check out this photo. it shows one of the railroad spikes lodged in a windshield. we learned the spikes damaged four cars on university avenue, one driver who got glass in his eye refused medical treatment. nbc10 spoke to another driver who described the impact on his car. >> as i am driving i hear a boom! i look at my windshield, and my whole windshield is cracked. i pulled over. i had some people in the car. when i got out the car, first of all i wanted to see was it something falling from the overpass. >> police have arrested a man in his 20s. he is charged with aggravated assault and other related crimes. a car jacker who led police on a high-speed chase is under arrest. michael meyers robbed a shell gas station in washington township and broke into a home in winslow township acting like he was a victim. we spoke to the home owner, frank sasso, who tells us the intruder was desperate for a getaway car. >> he says don't you lose your life for a car. he has the knife and he's going after my stomach, so i let him go. >> police say meyers took off with sasso's car and began the high-speed chase. they caught up to meyers about an hour later. from our south jersey bureau, police are looking for a man whom they say beat another man and his dog with a baseball bat, leaving the dog situationally hurt. look at the suspect. darren dicarlo. authorities say he beat the man and the dog during a fight in brown's mills, burlington county, on thursday. police have issued an arrest warrant for dicarlo. layoffs on the way for public schools in camden. the district is cutting more than 150 jobs as it tries to fix a budget deficit. about 40 of the 150 positions belong to teachers. all vice principals will lose their jobs. the rest of the layoffs will affect security guards, clerks and custodians. camden schools are trying to stem a $39 million budget gap. the district says the jobs being cut were not needed. officials added the schools will be hiring new workers to focus on literacy and family outreach. today some of the best college rowers in the country will hit the schuylkill river, it's the final day of the dad vail regatta. here is a live look at boat house row. thousands will gather to watch and participate right there on the river. thousands of rowers are in philadelphia for the event. it's the largest college rowing competition in north america. organizers tell us today's schedule has been compressed. they've cut down the lag time between the races in order to get in the action by mid-afternoon before any stormy weather moves in later on in the day. newman university in delaware county will hold its commencement ceremonies at 12:30. the college will graduate nearly 700 students. among them, more than two dozen first responders who earned bachelor's degrees in the school's degree in public administration. at villanova, they held the main commencement ceremony yesterday. it was moved indoors because of the rain. individuals of the school's university will hold their in the burbs, 50 and a little cooler there. we had some clouds earlier, but that's clearing. 5 it in new jersey. the lehigh valley dealing with a little bit of fog and low clouds. 50 degrees there. we can see a larger shot of that. but we do expect out in easton, 50 degrees right now. by later on tonight, 55 with some showers getting out of there. and 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, 46 degrees. 53 just about everywhere. maybe a few clouds around. but we are looking for bright skies, but then the clouds rolling in midday, and yes, we are expecting the possibility of some afternoon thunderstorms and rain. we dry out for tomorrow. this is out in the suburbs in pennsylvania. clear skies, but look at the temperature. temperatures really take a dive behind the cold front. colder air moving in. we don't warm up much on monday either, even though we are expecting some sunshine. up in the lehigh valley, colder still. look a tt the high temperature tomorrow in the lehigh valley, 58 degrees. rosemary. you may want to keep your eyes out this weekend if you're in wissahickon park in valley green. a bear was spotted roaming near the inn. they plan to trap the bear and move it to a less populated area. this is the park's first-ever documented bear sighting. the spring sidewalk festival continues this morning in montgomery county. young dancers perform at 11:00 at station circle right by the train station. you can check out the deals at the sidewalk sale. the big finale is tomorrow when the music and arts fest runs from 2:00 to 7:00. today in delaware county, enjoy agricultural fun at a spring fair from 10:00 until 3:00 at the 4 h farm and educational center in newtown square. visitors can see and touch the livestock and poultry that the students are raising and this fair is free. ♪ check out little leah stills, dancing at her dad's wedding last night in new york. we have been following leah's miraculous journey since being diagnosed with cancer two years ago. the 6-year-old was treated at children's hospital of philadelphia and is now cancer free. that's why her father got married. he married his long-time love asha joyce but it was leah stealing the show at the reception. congratulations to all of them. 5:42 right now on this saturday. the one-run wonders were at it again at citizens bank park. a phillies prospect makes his major league debut. quarterback carson wentz on the field for his first throws as an eagle. back in just a few minutes. a philadelphia family is sharing their story after three thieves burst into their home. this morning it seems the robbers may have targeted the wrong house. here is what we know. they broke into the home on farraday street in somerton and tied everybody up. we spoke to the family and agreed not to show their faces on camera. the men demanded a pile of cash but the family had no idea what they were talking about. >> i said, we don't have no cash. that's when they figured out that they were in the wrong house. >> one was telling the other that this is the wrong house, this ain't the house, man. >> no one in the family was hurt. police have a rough description of the suspects and are working on getting surveillance video from a nearby church. out west in california three men are dead after their truck was hit by an amtrak train. this happened at a railroad crossing in madera county, yesterday. the truck tried to go around a stopped freight train blocking the crossing. the driver went down the road a bit to find another crossing. it was then hit by the amtrak train coming down a second set of tracks. nobody on the train was hurt. a group of kids on the way to the prom in massachusetts has quite a story to tell. their limo caught fire when it hit a tree. the ten people inside the limo fortunately were okay. police say a trolley car that was passing the scene picked up the kids and then took them to the dance. a massive fire at a tire dump near madrid, spain, is believed to be arson. the fire sent a cloud of thick, black smoke into the air that was visible for at least 20 miles. authorities evacuated at least 9,000 residents from the area. others were ordered to stay indoors and to shut their windows. you are looking at canada's prime minister justin trudeau. yesterday he took an ariel tour of fort mcmurray, alberta, much of it devastated by a wildfire. the flames destroyed more than 2,000 homes and buildings. trudeau says his government will direct significant money to the rebuilding effort. red cross volunteers are there helping the fire victims. nearly 90,000 people have had to evacuate that area in alberta because of the flames that are still burning two weeks after the fire broke out. it is national police week, and last night a candle light vigil was held on the national mall in washington to honor law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. more than 250 fallen officers' names were added to the fallen officers memorial. there are more than 20,000 names on the memorial. disney's rare miss retailers ugly quarter. michelle caruso-cabrera fills us in. >> disney shares were hammered after the company posted its first earnings miss in five years. the strength of the movie studios could not make up from weaker profits from the tv units. the picture was worse for retail earnings. macy's, nord drom and kohl's all in below expectations and shares of many retailers fell sharply on the weak results. overall retail spending actually surged in april. consumers opened their wallets to buy new cars and gas to fuel their rides. spending also rose in so-called non-store retailers which include online sellers like amazon. finally, an iconic american beer becomes more american? budweiser is renaming its flagship brew first alert weather. >> good saturday morning. i am meteorologist karen thomas looking at our neighborhood forecast. not doing too badly waiting for the official sun rise. 55 in philadelphia. we have clear skies, and that is going to be about the best part of our day. saturday morning, as we get closer to the afternoon hours, the weather picture will change. right now we are seeing some fog happening in the lehigh valley. a dense fog viadvisory until 10:00 a.m. delaware clear, though, 53 degrees. a beautiful shot. afternoon rthunderstorms is a good portion of our weather story for today. it looks like the best part of our forecast will be happening in the morning hours of saturday, but then, as we move on through our afternoon, we'll have to keep our eye to the sky. for the dad vail regatta, a big event happening. a lot of people heading to the schuylkill. 53 degrees by 7:00 with the bright, sunny skies. 73 at noontime, but the clouds move in quickly, and then we are expecting to have the showers moving through, possibly even some heavy rain, maybe even an embedded thunderstorm. we'll show you wider here. the front is a very quick-moving cold front. right now it's bringing rain, some heavy, to parts of yow, oht moving in through the afternoon hours. by the afternoon we expect it to push through the delaware valley, that would be after 1:00 today. we can anticipate the clouds moving out in front of this system right here, so look for sunshine to start, but then clouds will quickly thicken through the mid portion of our day, and then the possibility of those early showers coming through, heavier rain behind it, and the potential for some thunderstorms as the system quickly moves west to east later on today. futurecast, we'll put it into motion. this model has us at about 4:00, 4:30 with the system pushing in from the western portion of our viewing area. you can see here with the orange and the yellow, there is potential there for the convection. then we have a little piece behind it with some energy that will move through as well. that will be later on this evening. and so we are expecting the clouds to stay with us as quickly as that system moves out. overnight we should dry out. but there is precipitation behind the system for sunday. but it stays mainly to our north. so we can looking for dry conditions mostly for sunday into monday. our ten-day outlook has us really getting cooler for tomorrow. only 61 degrees for a high temperature tomorrow. so, 73 for today. later on, though, we expect the showers possibly a thunderstorm tomorrow, 61 degrees. we should remain mainly dry, however, we do have the possibility north and west of philadelphia that we get a shower, maybe a thunder shower tomorrow. but monday is all day. 64 degrees. we'll stay in the 60s through wednesday. we'll be back in just a bit. the phillies called up tommy joseph and sent down darren ruff. tommy playing first base making his major league debut tonight. >> to go through the windy road that i did to end up here makes it all worth it. >> and tommy's family there cheering on their son against the reds, second inning, tucker barnhart skies one to left. the birds. >> i'm really excited for it. >> carson wentz made his first throws as an eagle. he has heard from some of his teammates but he has not spoken to sam bradford. >> personally i don't think there will be a lot of tension. i think people might make it out to be, but i think the coaches and everybody will be on the same page, and i think it will be a really good working relationship. i think it will benefit the team because we're going to compete. really everybody in the quarterback room and everybody in the entire organization is going to compete and push each other. >> if the eagles decide to sit carson, the entire season? >> all i care about is winning. if the team is winning, i'm going to do whatever i can to help the team. from a third player role or a starter. it doesn't matter. >> even with bradford here, when the time comes, he would like to earn his teammates' respect as a leader. >> you have to earn it with hard work and with building relationships, being around the guys. it doesn't happen overnight. nothing is handed to you. you have to come in and earn everybody's respect. i'm looking forward to doing that. >> after signing his $26 million deal, atlantic city board walk con at the ac convention center. it's about superheroes. science fiction and fantasy. you're likely to see many fans in costumes. the convention runs through tomorrow. last night in south jersey superheroes of all sizes suited up for a night of fun in cherry hill. the garden state discovery museum hosted its third annual calling all superheroes event. kids met their
