10:00 on this sunday. i'm rosemary connors. let's start with the weekend weather because we're going to wrap up on a really nice note. crystkrystal klei has a detail e first alert forecast. >> this forecast looks a lot better than what we saw yesterday. right now on the first alert radar, we just got clear conditions and spotty clouds. no rain to track for us right now. in fact, today should be a mostly dry day aside from very spotty isolated rain chances later in the day. that's the afternoon and early evening hours. let's talk about the two confirmed tornadoes that did move through yesterday. just outside of our viewing area in monmouth county. the first you see the radar return, i have frozen it to 7:21, the time of the report. an ef-0 tornado, the lowest level ofato atortornado that is officially recognized. winds near 75 miles per hour. the path length was about a half mile. now we're looking at the second record. a shorter length, only three tenths of a mile. also an ef-0, and also near howell township, although other areas along the line did spawn some serious damage through new jersey. coming up, we'll talk more about the fact that while the bad conditions move through, now we're looking at a good sunday, also the work week ahead where temperatures trend downward for a bit. >> we have more of the video that we showed you off the top of the newscast. take a look of the force of yesterday's storm. powerful winds blew open the doors here at home depot. the pounding rain and dark clouds made people a little unsettled inside the store in howell township. one of the customers described the scene. >> the heavy, heavy rain coming down on the roof. the contractors and i were all looking at each other going this isn't normal. starting coming out toward the main entrance and it was black outside. >> not going to get work done yesterday morning. the national weather service has confirmed two tornado touched down yesterday. the skies are clear now, looking great, but yesterday's rain across the area has turned the schuylkill river into a bit of a swollen mess. a lot of rain, a lot of debris. that could make things dangerous for anybody trying to swim in the river, and yes, there ares planning to swim in the schuylkill. some triathletes, so they had to make alternative plans. pam osborn fills us in. >> the 20,000 dollars in purse prizes have already been claimed with the last few people sort of rounding this corner, making their way in to the race this morning. this was a staggered start to the event. athletes started out with a run instead of swimming because of conditions on the river. they switch to bikes and then ran again for a total distance of 50k. the first person to cross the finish line and take home a $10,000 prize, jason west, a 24-year-old penn state graduate who grew up in quaker town. we caught up with him after the race and talked to him about beating out olympians. >> incredible. i really didn't know if i was going to catch him. and i caught him and i just went for it. and i started cramping everywhere. and i was like, just get to the finish line. just get there, just get there. how special would it be to win with mom and dad cheering me on? >> has it really hit you that you beat an olympian at home? >> i don't think -- i mean, yeah. that's another part that makes it so special. you know, ben is an incredible athlete. cam has been such a mentor to me. so to be racing those kind of athletes, it's really special because they're world class. and they're also just great guys. >> and he's talking about olympian ben kanute. he beat his time by 20 seconds this morning. alicia k. was the first of the women to cross the finish line. congratulations to the winner. then really all of the participants who came out today because as we have been talking about all morning long, there was a bit of a change. a last-minute change. they weren't able to get on the water so they had a dry tri, but it was an absolute success. reporting live, pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. >> thanks for that. >> hey, remember this summer, download the nbc 10 app. keep it with you wherever you go because whenever there's severe weather threats, we'll send you an alert 30 minutes before a storm reaches your location. >> new this morning, in chester county, the search is on for the cause of a deadly fire. take a look. this is new video just in to the nbc 10 newsroom. this is from east coventry township. flames reported just before 6:00 this morning. crews rescued one person from the house, but another person died at the scene. no word on what may have caused this. also new this morning, a flight from philadelphia to germany is right back where it started after a mid-ocean turnaround, so to speak. philly international confirms last night's american airlines flight to frankfurt returned due to possible mechanical issue. the plane is now being checked out. we talked to one passenger who was onboard that flight. >> we make it about three hours into the flight when we find out that the navigation system isn't working so we have to make a u-turn and fly back to philadelphia, taking another three hours. so basically, six hours on a plane to get nowhere. all the flights are overbooked. we can't find anything for the next couple days and it's a big headache. >> many passengers will be taking flights to frankfurt today. give me canine units and state police. we have a female and a male running through the field, through the corn field. >> those words from police in the lehigh valley came after a man and woman fired shots at officers. the gunfire led to an armed standoff that lasted for nine hours. it ended for the two suspects in an apparent murder/suicide inside the attic of a house. the standoff happened yesterday near west saucon valley road and lime port pike. that's where investigators say the man and woman wanted for a parole violation in another county took on the police. this video is exclusive to nbc 10. authorities tell us it's the suspect's car that they ditched in a subdivision under construction. police say they chased the suspects who fired at an officer. the suspects then ducked into neighbors' houses looking for car keys. the police closed the roads in the area, evacuated the neighbors. one of them telling us he knew something wasn't right when he returned to his home. >> i walked up to my door and i stuck the key in, and i couldn't open it. and i looked down and i saw a muddy footprint on the door. >> the pursuit ended at this house. showcasing their work in tents up and down main street. this is the festival's 28th year. >> 10:0 sath on this sunday. the bombing and firing is considers one of the darkest days in philadelphia history. now, officials are shining a light on what happened. next, how the lives lost are remembered in the very place where they perked. it's time that we bring addiction out of the darkness and into the light. to everyone struggling in silence - addicts, family, friends - you are not alone. it's time we lift each other up, reach out, say something. addiction is a disease. don't suffer. don't wait. help is within reach. call 844 reach nj or go to reachnj.gov the road to recovery starts now. the planner for your sunday. do need to worry about it. we're looking in philadelphia, temperatures around the low 80s by your lunch tour. and then back to near 80 degrees at 8:00, and just a heads-up, some models indicating spot showers moving through. there's a chance of that, but it will be short lived and spotty in nature, meaning no close to a washout and you don't need to cancel plans because of it. in the suburbs we have a better chance of spot showers. the suburbs, levalley, berks county, and near the low 80s. low 80s for highs in the lehigh valley and low 70s by the time we get to the evening hours. in delaware, 83 around noon. again, i think mid 80s for high temperatures. about the same in new jersey and at the shore, right 80 for the forecast high. let's take a quick look at the hour by hour. we're clear right now. we get into the afternoon and there's what i'm talking about, spot showers trying to move by. nothing terribly heavy although an isolated spot may pick up a bit of strength. we'll talk more about the work week and into the fourth of july weekend coming up. >> delaware is honoring one of its own. a man who lost his life while saving his stepson. yesterday, the state humusly awarded a silver life saving medal to michael manly. manly swam out to help his stepson who got caught in a rip current off rehoboth beach in 2015. the teen made it back to shore, however, manly was swept out to sea. >> and a historical market now stands outside one of the darkest days. state officials dedicated a plaque commemorating the bombing of move headquarters in cobb's creek. in 19, police dropped a makeshift bomb on the rooftop bunker of the black liberation group move following a day-long standoff on osage avenue. 11 people died including five children. s of neighbors lost their homes in the fire that followed the explosion. ramona africa survived the iloveny.com live view outside looking over center city. gorgeous shot that we got a much better view than yesterday morning. just some scattered clouds out there. blue skies, plenty of sunshine overhead. today, that will be what we say for most of the day. we're looking at a fairly dry forecast. in our new jersey neighborhoods, temperatures rising nicely. washington township, 78. turnerville at 77. mt. laurel at 75. and now at 81, just updating, in hopewell township. looking at temperatures making it to the mid 80s for high. kind of like a summer day. on our hour by hour forecast, i think this model is going with too much moisture, but i want to show off the timing here. so some scattered clouds out there with spot chances of rain as we get through the afternoon hours. you might have noticed most are focused right in the zone. mostly north and west of the i-95 corridor through the afternoon hours. rule out that maybe one spot shower will pick up strength. that means with the afternoon heating, we could see one small storm pop up. nothing like yesterday, and really most of us remain on the dry side as we go throughout your afternoon and evening hours. an isolated shower cannot entirely be ruled out of the forecast. as we go forward, let's look at the high temperatures. 85 in somerton. westchester at 80. 84 in lansdale. 83 for allentown with a spot shower possible. 82 in ocean city. we'll also be at 82, rehoboth beach, and smurma, a high of 85. now let's jump to the hour by hour forecast for monday into tuesday. this is a better chance of rain. monday, on the clear side of things through the day except the later evening hours. spot chances of rain north and west of the i-95 corridor. overnight to start your tuesday, some clouds, but otherwise a dry start to tuesday. it's in the afternoon that we see the rain return and especially into the evening, we could see pockets of heavier rain pass by as well. coming up in a few minutes, a closer look at the ten day on ten, that includes the fourth of july weekend. >> in washington, senate republicans looking to replace obamacare are coming up against a deadline for passing their own health care bill. senate leaders want to vote on the measure this week, but right now, there just isn't enough gop support to pass it. five republican senators oppose the bill. that's three more than the party can afford for passage. democratic senator bob casey of pennsylvania is an outspoken critic of the republican move to repeal and replace the affordable care act. yesterday, he focused on the health care issue during a town hall in lancaster. >> the best word i come up with is obscene. that's what i believe this is. >> the crowd was a mix of democrats and republicans. all concerned about what a new health care law would look like. >> as americans, we need to come together and talk these things out civilly and diplomatically. >> about 200 people showed up at the town hall, senator casey is up for re-election next year. last night, the chairman of the republican party of pennsylvania responded to senator casey's town hall and some of the comments he made there. in the statement, it says sadly, bob casey's march to left continues. as a senator whose state is facing-rocketing premium cost, it's disappointing bob casey continues to play political games instead of working across the aisle. ier this morning, i talked to "meet the press" moderator chuck todd about the health care bill and its chances of getting enough republican votes to pass. >> walk us through the process in the week ahead. how is this going to play out? >> well, look, i think it's going to be less of a policy debate and more of a political debate. what do i mean by that? if you just looked at this on policy and looked at the complaints that the moderate republicans have and conservative republicans have, you can't write a bill that would appease both sides and get you to 50. the only way mitch mcconnell is going to get this passed is by making a political argument and trying to persuade skeptical republican senators that the base of the republican party, they don't care about the details. they care about the results. and they want to see some form of an attempt at repeal and replace. >> chuck todd will sit down with senators bernie sanders and ron johnson to discuss the health care bill on "meet the press." that comes your way in about ten minutes at 10:30 right here on nbc 10. >> talk about a really scary moment at a theme park in upstate new york. take a look. >> her neck is stuck. >> ooh, a cell phone video was rolling as the teenage girl from southern delaware dangled from a gondola ride. it happened at the six flags park in queensbury. a crowd gathered underneath to catch her, and they did. the teen was not seriously hurt. the park says it does not to be a malfunction with the ride, but they have it closed until a thorough review is finished. all right, let's talk a little sports now. late night in arizona, the phillies got some pop from pitcher ben lively, but it came from the plate, not the mound. at 25 years old, lively became the youngest phils pitcher to homer in a game in more than 20 years. but the cheers were short lived. yeah, diamondbacks coming back with a little power of their own. jake lamb. the d-backs went on to beat the phillies 9-2. they're back again this afternoon in phoenix. and now here's the rest of the sunday morning sports. >> hey, hey, good morning to you. danny pommells from csn here. flyers general manager had a busy day yesterday, making two trades involving draft picks. with the 35th overall selection, the flyers picked isaac ratcliffe, a big guy, 6'4". 28 goals in junior hockey this season, played for canada at the world's under-18 tour mentd. the fliers gave up a second, third, and fourth rounder to get ratcliffe. well, over the last few drafts, the flyers have accumulated quite a few prospects. with the trade of brayden schenn, one might wonder if the flyers are in a rebuilding mode. the general manager was asked that. >> no. are we getting younger? yeah, we're getting younger. rebuild? absolutely not. i think unlike what people think about our philosophy, we do not want to hold players back. when they're ready to take the next step, we want to allow them to take the next step. so in saying that, we feel like we got some young players that are not ready, they're close. >> well, perhaps other than the fans, perhaps no one has suffered as much during the process, quote unquote, as sixers head coach brett brown. in four seasons he's won 75 of 328 games, less than 25%, but now he's seeing his patience pay off. >> you go back to where you started. you know, you're reminded of why you took the job in the first place. it was very much felt that this was going to be a rebuild. it probably went a few years longer than we all had anticipated with the unforch injuries to our draft picks. and to feel that we have navigated through the storm and we now have a chance to coach people that really have a chance to be here for a long time, an elite young talent, it makes it a good morning to wake up to. >> how about the union and d.c. united getting it on? 31st minute. union on the attack. a nice into the box. he lets his left foot do the honors, as his volley finds the back of the net. extra time, second half. still a 1-0 game. andre blake in between the pipes. what a save there to keep united off the board. union snap a three-game skid 1-0. >> soul at cleveland. fourth quarter action. dan airing it out to shaun colinmoku. he reels it in. the third touchdown of the game. soul improve to 10-0, 59-28 the final. that's your look at sports. i'm danny pommells from csn. today on nbc 10 at issue, paying pennsylvania's bills and managing its money. pennsylvania's treasurer joins us to discuss new programs designed to save you money. that, plus the death of american student otto warmbier. he came home deported. why she believes he deserves to stay here in the u.s. >> married to a united states citizen. we were already in the process of adjusting his status and working through the motions to legalize him. >> that's on nbc 10 at issue at 11:30 right here. >> tomorrow, wilmington will name a swimming pool for former vice president joe biden. the former vice president was a lifeguard at the pool in his younger days. the pool will be known as the joseph r. biden aquatic center. did you ever lifeguard? >> my first job. >> and i actually really enjoyed that job. i got very tan, too. that doesn't happen often with me. let's talk about the forecast. they're laughing at me. a live view outside here in center city. a very nice start to the morning. up to 85 degrees in the afternoon. we may see spotty, mostly light showers. can't rule up one storm picking up strength. dropping down temperatures to 78 by tuesday. it gets hot and humid again by the end of the work week. friday, saturday, sunday, a chance for thunderstorms. now, we may be able to adjust it. i'm hoping so because that's fourth of july weekend. but fourth of july itself looks better. >> in the winter, i get the pale comments too. i'm with you. that's going to do it for us. "meet the press" is coming up next. for all of us here, have a great one. have a great week. . this sunday the battle over healthcare, can the gop plan pass? some republicans say their bill is too harsh. >> i could not support a piece of legislation that takes insurance away from tens of millions of americans. >> others say it may not go far enough. >> it's going to fix the whole problem. >> while democrats and the left are unanm sly opposed. >> thousands of people will die. >> i'll talk to independent bernie sanders of vermont. plus the democrat's loss in georgia leesds for calls for nancy pelosi to step down. >> you've got to beat the republicans and carry this toxic brandon your back. >> but
