Earlier i saw a car pass by, so it is passable, but use caution. Again, avoid the area altogether. This is at south 58th and chester avenue. A good alternate would be woodland avenue, then head for south 60th and right to springfield avenue all the way up here. For the most part, this is in southWest Philadelphia. People are currently tending to the water main break. Again, its still coming out. Its still bubbling at this hour. Pretty severe. If youre going to be in the area, youll still need the rain boots anyways. Overall, a wet start to the day. Speaking of wet roads, look at this. Just off to the shoulder. It was originally blocking a lane. You had a car that spun from the slick roadway conditions. At route 202 on the southbound side at route 29. We had emergency crews earlier. Traffic is able to get by. It was slow going overall for the most part. Look at how shiny these roadways are. If youre going to head out this morning, allow extra time and use caution. Back to you. What can you tell us . Reporter i want to draw your attention to action on my left. Crews from the Philadelphia Water Department walked across street after honing in on they thought was the correct valve to shut off the line that is flowing water through the ruptured main. As they dig down trying to get to the valve, well take you to the intersection of 58th and chester. You see the water is flowing from the intersection. I can tell you the water has really extended well beyond thisjectithis intersection. Its affecting people, and you cant walk through without getting incredibly wet. Its hard to drive through. Francesca was right in saying there have been cars passing through, but its not advised. Police and septa out here. Three sides of the intersection are closed off to all traffic with the exception of one side of chester avenue. Thats a mistake. Crews do not want any traffic coming through as they work to fix this water main. There is a church right at this intersection. A school as well as businesses. People getting out this early hour getting to work or school, theyll encounter this. Well stay on scene and let you know if the Philadelphia Water Department right to my left makes any progress with fixing this over the next half hour. New from overnight, the red cross is helping families who lost their homes after this fire in philadelphias germantown neighborhood. Firefighters were called to west mannheim street around 32 30 this morning. Around 2 30 this morning. It started in the basement and damaged a number of apartments in the twostory building. Everybody got out safely. Firefighters battled a car fire. This is north philadelphia overnight. You see the vehicle was still smoldering when our cameras arrived at 9th and venango. The car was engulfed in flames. Firefighters tell us the driver got out safely. More of eric freins family and friends are expected to testify in his sentencing hearing today. Yesterday his mother made an emotional plea for his life, while his father said, i failed eric as a father. I failed him by not pushing him harder. If he had had a plan to shoot or kill anybody, i would have stopped him. Frein arrived in court in a wheelchair and on suicide watch. His attorneys say hes not speaking to them. In a rare moment of emotion, frein wiped away tears as his mother spoke. The prosecution says its all an act. We are of the opinion that this is eric frein trying to delay the proceedings. Jurors will sky 4 is between life in prison or the Death Penalty jurors will decide between life in prison or the Death Penalty. Overnight, arkansas carried out the first double execution in the United States in more than a decade. Marcell williams and jack jones were put to death on the same gurney hours apart last night. Both men were convicted rapists and killers. The state wants to put to death eight inmates before the end of the month when its supply of one lethal injection drugs expires. Arkansas plans another execution on thursday. Philadelphia police are looking for the robber who followed an elderly man home and attacked him and his wife while holding a razor blade. Police released the Surveillance Video of the suspect stalking the 86yearold victim at a store in West Philadelphia last week. You see the suspect in the lime green shirt. Police say he later punched the husband and grabbed his wifes neck inside their house and stole about 60 worth of lottery tickets before taking off. Vineland police are looking for whoever shot three people at a nightclub. Some of the chaos that followed was streamed live on facebook. [ screams ] people ran in panic to escape more bullets flying behind the grant plaza club in vineland on saturday night. Minutes earlier, Police Say Three men were shot inside the venue. Now the club disputes that. The victims are recovering. Police say they dont know what prompted the gunfire, and they have no suspects. Club management blames gang violenc violence. 6 08. Crews have been out for about two hours trying to tackle this water main that is affecting things at the intersection of 58th and chester avenue in southWest Philadelphia. Ive spoken to some people who were walking their kids around the mess to school. Listen to what one mother had to say about her concerns the rest of the day. Ive never seen Something Like it. Reporter are you worried that your water is going to be shut off later . I am. Ill make sure i have enough water and everything else. Reporter one woman says her water has been affected since early this morning. Its likely on that same line that the water main ruptured. It happened around 4 00 this morning. You have water overflowing from the intersection bleeding on to area streets. All of the streets feeding into the intersection are closed off with the exception of one street. Cars despite seeing the mess have pushed through, and theyve been driving into the intersection. You have a Police Officer here whos deterring them from going any further. You have a lot of residences, homes, people waking up, getting ready for work or school, and finding out they have an inconvenience with the intersection. There are a handful of businesses and restaurants that dont seem to be too affected. Theres a church and rec center, their. The Philadelphia Water Department is out. We thought they had honed in on what they believed was the shutoff valve to the mess, but that proved to not be the case. Well let you know when the water is off and things improve a bit. Crews rescued an 87yearold man now in the hospital in critical condition. Investigators dont yet know the cause of the fire. Sky force 10 over Montgomery County last night where crews put out a fire at the Fine Grinding Corporation Building in conshohocken. No reports of anyone hurt. Hazmat crews called to the scene on east elm because of possible chemicals in the building. Now the last rounds of road closures went into effect around the art museum in the last few minutes. Its a foggy ghost town, but that will change when the draft ticks off tomorrow. Matt delucia is here with the traffic change happening now. Give us an update.
