That has created some fog. Thats 95, the view from south philadelphia. Weve beenc watching the last couple hours, the fog has really been increase. Its hazleton in the mountains, zero visibility, down to a mile in pottstown. Philadelphia international is quarter mile visibility and dense fog in wilmington. If youre heading down 95 youll see a lot of that fog, likely slow things down a bit first things this morning. The temperatures will rise quickly from the 50s and 60s into the 80s this afternoon. 59 in new jersey. And the Lehigh Valley, you can see some of the light fog in easton. Thats a live view. 62 degrees, the follow will be disappearing at 9 00 and long gone by lnch time. 73 degrees. In philadelphia, the fog disappears as well. Temperature will hold steady at 8 00. But then up to 68 degrees by 11 00 this morning. And hold on to your sunglasses, because the temperature hit 80 degrees for philadelphia and the suburbs. Delaware, into the 80s. Look at the 70s for the Lehigh Valley for new jersey and at the shore. Ill walk you through the forecast hour by hour when i come back in just a few minutes. Its been a tough morning on the road. Jessica boyington watching things from the first alert traffic center. Definitely take the schuylkill expressway. Thats because our camera showing us right here, the schuylkill eastbound around University Avenue still closed this morning as it has been for several hours now. Thats because there was a tractortrailer accident involving a tractortrailer carrying beer kegs and another vehicle involved there as well. Youre looking at getting by there is the westbound side. At least one lane or so getting by the scene there. All eastbound traffic, though, is at a complete standstill. Were seeing big delays past south street and traffic pretty much looks like its at a standstill. Thats a lot of traffic to be pushed off the university off ramp. 34th bridge, wharton street to the schuylkill expressway eastbound ramp, a little further east. Down below youll pop out down there. Other than that, if youre taking the schuylkill expressway, before you get stuck, take the vine street expressway, head eastbound there and head to 95 in that direction or so. That will be a good alternate. Were still in the green at least through the vine street expressway. Updates for the rest of the morning. She just arrived at the scene not too long ago. Pam, what are you seeing . Rosemary, unfortunately it looks like this will take a little while to clear. Let me step out of the way and give you a better look at exactly whats going on right now. You can see the accident scene, you can also see tow trucks there. Since weve been here for 40 minutes were seeing a small truck come and unload some of the beer thats on the back of that tractortrailer. Thats the cargo it was carrying this morning. Its looking like theyre trying to get the back of that trailer unloaded before theyre able to tow it off of the eastbound lanes of 76 this morning. So, again, that seems to be taking a little bit of time this morning. You can see traffic going on the westbound lanes right now. As of now, traffic from this direction, eastbound on the schuylkill, not getting on. We have seen some other cars go a little bit ahead of the accident. Theyre able to get on. Again, right now, traffic still shut down. Well keep an eye on the situation just as soon as we see movement here, well let you know. Reporting live in grays ferry, pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. 6 04. A possible strike is looming over septa. Workers say they will walk off the job at the end of the month if they dont reach a contract agreement. Matt delucia live in east falls. What does this mean for commuters . Well, tracy, it could mean a big problem for commuters if that strike does happen. You might remember two years ago, septa narrowly avoided a strike and now septa riders are saying not again. Some 5,000 Union Members have threatened to walk off the job. The transport Workers Union voted unanimously yesterday to walk off the citys subways, trolleys and buses on november 1st if a deal is not reached by then. The big concern, of course, is that workers and kids going to school will be stranded. Looking ahead to election day on november 8th, that could be a big problem as well, getting people to the polls. We spoke with riders who say they are concerned and frustrated right now. I think theyre not thinking of everyone. I think theyre only thinking of themselves. When they think about the strike, they put a lot of us in jeopardy of how we choose to get to work. Two years after the last strike threat, some of the sticking points remain today, including pension, health care and work schedules. The union has claimed that managers are getting special treatment. They tell themselves they deserve more, we deserve less. Were not going to tolerate that. Septa responded to the vote with a written statement, quote, while we happen the union does not exercise its right to strike, we are focusing on reaching a new contract thats in the best interest of our riders, employees and stakeholders. Riders here this morning, holding out hope that a strike does not happen. Theres no word yet on any contingency plans. If a strike does happen, theres a couple weeks to go for those negotiations. Today the hoboken train station will be back up and running with full service. This comes less than three weeks after that crash of the new Jersey Transit train that killed a woman and injured more than 100 people. Six more tracks opened this morning at 4 00. New Jersey Transit Officials Say trains entering the station will now reduce their speed from 10 miles an hour to 5. The train that crashed in september was going twice the previous speed limit at the time of the accident. In philadelphia, a man is dead after robbers shot him on f street in lawncrest last night. Police say the victim told him he was coming home from shopping when two men held him up. He was shot at pointblank range from taking off. Neighbors were up late talking to police after a 19yearold was found dead on rose hill street, just after midnight. Police say he was shot once in the head but six shell casings were found. Police are still look for the shooter. 6 07. Today in central pennsylvania, a judge will begin hearing the penn state whistleblower case linked to the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal. Former assistant football coach mike mcquery is suing the university for 4 million for wrongful termination. He claims that penn state ruined his coaching career and personal life afterc he reported witnessing sanduskys abuse to school officials. Mcquery testified against sandusky who was later convicted of child sex crimes. A little bit of fog out there this [ inaudible ]. This is a view from center city looking to the south, to the southwest, that fog is really thick at the airport and into delaware. Some of the suburbs are seeing some of the fog. You may run into foggy spots first thing this morning. Certainly not all day. Well get sunshine to break through the clouds. The temperatures will be summerlike this afternoon with partly sunny skies and heading into a warm evening. It was really pleasant last evening but tonight it will be in the 70s. By tomorrow morning, well be dropping back into the 60s but warmer than this morning. Today, were starting off quite a bit warmer than yesterday. 57 right now in the Lehigh Valley. Delaware has the fog at 58 degrees and the fog at Philadelphia International. 60 degrees right now. Fox chase is 61 and Chestnut Hill is 56. The temperatures climb and with southwesterly winds helping to boost the temperatures, well have no problem racing to the 70s. We should top out around 80 degrees in philadelphia. Overnight, a few clouds and a few showers, too. You see the sprinkles heading towards northern new jersey. The area is dry. Expect it will stay dry today. Youll need your sunglasses, too. The fog disappears, partly sunny sky at 9 00. 62 degrees and 75 degrees by 1 00. The normal high is 66. Well blow past that and by 5 00 this afternoon, 78 degrees. The suburbs, fog will disappear. By 9 00 youll see sunshine an a few clouds. 61 degrees, up to 75 at 1 00 and bright sunshine at 5 00 this afternoon. For the Lehigh Valley, theres a little bit of fog in the Lehigh Valley, too. Partly to mostly sunny skies. It will be a beautiful fall day that will feel more like summer with a high of 76. Delaware, 60s, thick fog in northern delaware. It does not last. Look at the temperatures in new jersey. 62 degrees at 9 00. Middle 70s by 1 00 and into the upper 70s with partly to mostly sunny skies in new jersey and at the shore, from the 60s into the lower 70s this afternoon. Look at that, sunny skies all day long. Lets get you to work if youre just joining us. Theres an accident on 76 eastbound that has all lanes shut down and has for quite some time. Jessica boyington, fill us in on the latest. Were starting to become in the beginnings of what is normally rush hour, the beginning of the 6 00 hour or so. By 6 30 we usually start to see delays in and out of center city on the schuylkill anyway. This is our camera around south street, approaching the accident scene, which is involving a tractortrailer and a spill in the area now as well. The schuylkill expressway around University Avenue is where the accident scene is and theyre diverting traffic off in that direction. This is why all of the south street traffic is at a complete standstill. All of this traffic has to get off that exit ramp. Big delays there. Ive checked with some of the surrounding cameras as well. It doesnt seem to be backed up too far past the vine street expressway. Were seeing a slowdown just in this area. Your best bet for anc alternat taking the schuylkill expressway and headed eastbound, take the vine street expressway before you get to the schuylkill so you wont be sitting in that mess right there. Take the eastbound vine. Were still in the green. Head to 95 in either direction that way or make a left at 34th street bridge, head to wharton street to the schuylkill expressway eastbound ramp just below and youll come out down here. That could be an alternate for you there. The westbound traffic open but seeing delays. The accident in norristown has cleared, swede street and powell street. No more problems there. Meteorologist bill henley is tracking the conditions where you live, warm conditions. Neighborhood forecast is just a few minutes away. Happening today, Philadelphia City council wants to hear from you about changing tobacco regulations. The city says it want tos protect teens from being targeted by big tobacco companies, so it wants to increase the fee to businesses that sell tobacco from 50 to 300. It would use the extra money to hire more inspectors to who would work to keep Tobacco Products away from minors. If you want to weigh in, check the nbc 10 app. Well have complete details on tonights meeting. Uber and lyft are trying to reach a permanent legal agreement. The Pennsylvania Legislature could be looking at a bill to legalize the Ride Sharing Companies as early as tomorrow. A judge reversed the ban on uber earlier this month. The ruling didnt include lyft. The company has said it will act as if the decision applies to them as well. The Philadelphia Parking Authority says until there is a permanent deal, ppa officers will continue to ticket drivers. Today, officials will cut the ribbon for st. Maliki school in north philadelphia. Its one of 15 Independence Mission schools that provides education for lower income students. This mural is titled the sacred now, faith and family in the 21st century. 6 17. Breaking traffic news. We continue to watch that accident on the xb schuylkill expressway eastbound. The lights, they are backed up. Youre looking at a backup of the schuylkill expressway towards the vine street expressway. Thats where the tail end of this backup is, due to an earlier crash around university. So now what theyre doing is diverting all traffic off around University Avenue on the eastbound side. You can see, this is just the tail end of it. Thats how far the backup is right now. Your best bet is to get off before the schuylkill expressway runs into the vine. Get off at the vine street expressway for now. We had an earlier tractortrailer accident. Thats closing it around University Avenue. You can see that on our map system here. We are seeing the string of delays. This is where we were looking at our camera. Its starting just to see the end of the delay and backup. Moving down the vine street expressway will be a good bet, down to 95. A alternatively, make a left at 34th street bridge, wharton street, eastbound on the schuylkill. You can see its smooth sailing there. Were starting to see westbound delay by the scene. Even though the lanes are back open. Earlier we had the westbound side closed as welt. Watch for that. Were also watching the 42 freeway. Lets do a check of the other majors. Into philadelphia on the 42 freeway northbound from 55 to the walt, fiveminute trip there, no problems heading southbound. Well keep you updated on the schuylkill. Today we are in for a fall warmup, already 60 degrees outside. Temperatures expected to hit the 80s. Meteorologist bill henley is tracking those conditions. It has the details in your neighborhood forecast. Bill . That warmup is going to do a job on the fog that has started things off this morning. The fog will quickly disappear. This is a live view. Were starting to see a few more headlights. Still areas of dense fog, hazleton at quarter mile visibility, down to a mile and a half at blue bell and half a mile at Philadelphia International. That is an improvement. Still socked in in wilmington. A quartermile visibility. The fog wont last. Not everybody is seeing it. Heres glenside, pennsylvania, a nice start to a fall day that will feel like summer. The fall plants will get serious sunshine an a big warmup, too. 50s and low 60s. 58 with the fog in delaware. 60 degrees in philadelphia. New jersey, south jersey, parts of south jersey have cooled into the 50s with clear skies overnight. And a few scattered clouds in the suburbs wont last either. Kennett square, 57 and 59 in warrenton, heading into the upper 70s this afternoon. Warming to near 80 degrees. A few showers overnight staying to the north. Sprinkles are out of the picture for us. This next line of showers, which is getting closer to us, i expect this is going to fall apart. Unlikely well see any rain drops during the day today. We are going to get some serious summer heat this afternoon. Back for summer today. As the week goes on, we will likely see some record temperatures. The best chance of seeing records fall in philadelphia, not today, getting closer to the record of 85 tomorrow afternoon. But wednesday is most likely as the record is lower. 80 degrees the record in philadelphia. Unusually warm any way you look at it. 80s for the next three days and then the temperatures start to come down. As clouds increase, we get a chance of showers for thursday and into friday. That cold front comes through, drops the temperatures for friday and for the weekend, it will come down a bit more. 40s and low 50s over the weekend in the morning. 60s in the afternoon. And even a bit cooler, back to fall next week with low 60s for monday, tuesday and wednesday. Bill, thank you. 6 21.
