mall traffic. earlier we saw more slowdowns in the area approaching the mall. things are looking good right now. the mall in the middle of the screen. if you're taking 95, things are also running smoothly. average time about 11 minutes to 495. from there, average speeds in the 60s. when i come back we'll look at what's happening in kop. 5:01. breaking news, fire rips through a philadelphia row home forcing several families on the block out into the cold. the flames started on east price in the west oak lane neighborhood. the homeowner wasn't there, but her son was home and got out. no one was hurt. philadelphia police investigating a shooting at a party in kensington. somebody shot a man twice inside this house on coral street around 1:30 this morning. police tell us the shooter had an argument with the victim two days ago, then got into another fight with him before the gunfire. right now the victim is in the hospital in stable condition. hungry for savings. thanksgiving does not satisfy shoppers. they are out in droves searching for black friday steals. stores are trying new approaches to get you inside to spend some cash. >> and matt delucia is live at the cherry hill mall. there are millions on the line for retailers, right? >> reporter: absolutely. black friday, of course, is one of the biggest shopping days of the year. you get people going to the brick and mortar stores. that's what a lot of stores have been fighting for against the online retailers. they want people to come to the stores to have that experience to shop. we're outside the jcpenney, one of the stores that's been open all night. the mall itself here, the cherry hill mall, doesn't open until 6:00 a.m. we have an hour until the mall itself opens. you see the folks going in the doors at the jcpenney trying to get early sales. i spoke with a woman who had her car loaded up pretty full. take a look and listen to what she said coming into black friday. >> we started at walmart and target. and then to the outlets and penney's. now we're waiting for the mall to open. >> reporter: this is a tradition for you? >> tradition. 15 years. >> reporter: why? >> because we love a good deal. >> reporter: you seem to be one of the few out now. >> yeah. because we're crazy. >> reporter: she says she has most of her shopping done and hopes to have all of it done by the end of the day. maybe a couple more shopping days on line. pretty much all of her holiday shopping is done. look at that. 5:03 in the morning, and people done with holiday shopping. as we look live at the jcpenney's at the cherry hill mall, the parking lot, not too many cars at the moment. we expect to see a lot more traffic in the next hour when the mall itself opens up. for now, live in cherry hill, matt delucia, nbc10 news. i'll head inside. the large retailers may rule on black friday, but tomorrow is small business saturday. mayor kenney will be encouraging shoppers to buy local. tomorrow the mayor will visit businesses along the 52nd street corridor in welfare philadelphia. -- core in west philadelphia. american express started it in 2010. owners of mom and pop shops say it's now the busiest day of the year. margate will throw a noontime parade featuring carolers today, dancers, and santa claus. tomorrow, you can enjoy discounts at shops and lucy the elephant, plus a free screening of the movie "the polar express." then a christmas-tree lighting and menorah lighting will be at the park. download the nbc10 app for a complete list of stores and hours across the area. a plan is dead after dogs attacked him in the hunting park neighborhood on thanksgiving. officers found the man on the ground at 13th and pike. four dogs were attacking and biting him. an officer fired once and killed one of the dogs. paramedics took the man to the hospital where he died. police say the dog bites were minor. they believe he may have overdosed. that may have been the cause of his death. a neighbor saw the victim minutes before the attack. >> i just fed him. gave him a plate of food. it's sad, but why are you back there in front of people's -- in the back of people's homes? >> investigators say the owner of the dogs knew the victim. at this point there are no charges against the owner. a two-car crash in delaware county sent five people to the hospital on thanksgiving. it happened at 2:30 at the intersection of 2nd and ulrich streets in west chester. all of the injured went to the medical center. we're working to learn more. we're learning former national security adviser michael flynn is cutting ties with president trump's legal team. nbc news is reporting that flynn's lawyers have notified the president's team that they can no longer share information. experts believe this could be a sign that flynn may be preparing to cooperate with special counsel robert mueller's investigation of the trump administration's ties to russia. one of president trump's lawyers says no one should draw any conclusions at this point. flynn's attorney declined to comment. right now a montgomery public park is closed because officials say soil may be contaminated. leaders in pottstown put up signs at the park and posted an advisory on social media about the park being closed. they say it's due to potential health hazards in the soil. they're testing the soil to see how dangerous it may be. flashes tell us they're -- neighbors tell us they're pretty worried. >> well, i raised four kids here. now i'm concerned what might happen. >> pottstown officials say they're working to get final test results so they know which contaminants may be in the soil and what they need to do to get it cleaned up. meteorologist krystal klei here looking at philadelphia and center city. notice at the top of the aramark buildi building, flags slowly moving in the wind. not a strong breeze that we have this morning. at times, it's been totally calm. a couple of numbers on the boardment almost nothing showing up. that means it's calm out there. and that means that the temperature outside is actually what it feels like. you don't have the bitter windchills to deal with. it's cold. temperatures below freezing across the region. it is good news that the winds are light. here's the radar and satellite. the wide view, nothing going on. not just over us, but tracking into new england, as we go into west across the strait of pennsylvania or into parts of west virginia, nothing to track out there. very nice conditions for shoppers. nice for anybody who may be traveling possibly away from us, maybe home, maybe to visit family if you couldn't get there for thanksgiving. things are going to be quiet out there today. early risers will deal with the cold conditions. mid 20s in the lehigh valley, south jersey, around freezing philly and the shore through 6:00 a.m. by 3:00 in the afternoon, sunny. we warm up nicely. about 50 degrees in philly. 49 in the lehigh valley. 50 in south jersey. how about the hour by hour? as we go through friday, like i mentioned, you don't see much change on the board. a spot cloudy here or there, staying dry into the evening. wear the layers, it's getting chilly again by this point in the night. we'll talk about the weekend forecast coming up. >> thank you. as it gets later into the morning, we're expecting to see more cars on the road. >> that's right. and pam osborne keeping an eye on the cameras and maps. you've got a little trouble out there. yeah, in new hanover, there's a disabled vehicle at swamp pike and wagner road. the good news, i'm not seeing reports that this is blocking any traffic or slowing things. we'll e we'll keep our eye on that. if you're headed to the mall, trying to get to kop before it opens, look at the schuylkill expressway at the conshohocken curve, there are more cars on the roadway. everything is moving smoothly. we'll look at the bigger picture here. king of prussia smack dab in the middle. you can see all the main arteries leading up to the mall are clear. everything in the green. we'll keep an eye on it for you and show you cherry hill mall when i come back. >> thanks. 5:09. breaking her silence. an a-list actress unleashes her fury on disgraced movie producer harvey weinstein. her holiday message to him next. ♪ no christmas tree no christmas tree ♪ heading to break in song. the shortage across the country that could change the way you prepare for the holidays. plus, the early numbers are in. how many people went out and spent money on thanksgiving and the trickle-down effect. if you bought they christmas tree before thanksgiving, you're one of the early ha, ha, there's a shortage of trees from a decade ago. a struggling economy from the 2008 recession and low demand for live trees meant that farmers planted fewer seedlings. some farms even went out of business. one tree seller in texas says he normally ships a few thousand trees from northwest. this year he could only get 500. >> we're seeing the repercussions of trees not going into the ground. in some locations, we probably will not have enough trees to get through monday. >> some experts say this cut in supply could be with us past the year 2020. also expect prices to be higher as the tree-buying season continues. today a list of holiday events to tell you about. >> yeah. delaware's also giving you three reasons to opt outside. there's no admission for state parks and the brandywine zoo. in wilmington, ft. delaware state park in delaware city is also closed for the season. one, two, three. [ cheers ] >> philadelphia formally rings in the holiday season with the annual tree-lighting ceremony. that happens tonight. the theme is "there's snow-place like philadelphia." among the entertainment, philadelphia's own kathy sledge of the group sister sledge, d.j. active, and lauren hart. festivities begin at 5:00 outside of city hall this afternoon. around the same time, conshohocken kicks off its tree-lighting festivities. there will be a deejay, hot chocolate, and the mayor of conshohocken will have trivia for prizes. the fire companies will escort santa into town around 6:30. again, everything starts at 5:00. back in center city, this year's christmas village has returned to love park. the attraction is in its 10th year. the event, you may remember, was moved to another location last year because of renovations to love park. the renovations aren't entirely finished yet, however vendors will be back. the national dog show lit up social media after the winner was announced on nbc yesterday. >> the brussels griffon is your winner. best in show. >> thousands say the adorable little newton looks like chewbacca from "star wars." hopefully that didn't sway the judges' opinions. newton beat out more than 2,000 dogs for the best-in-show title. nbc sports says this was a history-making year for the dog show as 191 of the 202 breeds sanctioned by the american kennel club were represented. >> my dog just begs for scraps from the table. let's check in with pam osborne keeping an eye on the roads. pam? >> hey, special traffic, though, if you're trying to get out this black friday. things are looking good. the mall doesn't open until 6:00. you see it's smack dab in the middle of the screen. not a lot of trouble or problem spots. maybe you want to get there rurally, get yourself in -- get there early, get yourself in so you don't have to fight for a parking spot. headed to the king of prussia, also opens at 6:00. some of the stores may be opening sooner. let's look. you see the average speeds in the 60s right now. everything is in the green. if you're traveling mass transit, amtrak, septa, new jersey transit, and patco all on time. >> thank you. certainly a cold start. 5:00, the malls opening at 6:00. people gearing up for black friday shopping. have the hat and gloves. >> ditch it in the car. up know in the mall, you're breaking into a sweat. meteorologist krystal klei with more. we'll look at temperatures through new jersey. 27 in audubon. swedesboro at 24. mullica hill, the same. mt. laurel at 25. pemberton, 22. lumberton at 23. cold out this morning. bundle up. especially if you think you'll be outdoors for the two seconds you go from the car to the storefront. a clear picture. clouds clipping the poconos, but that's about it. otherwise, no action on the board. today is dry. sunny. 51 for the forecast high. kutztown at 50. hammondton, 52. cape may at 50. rehoboth beach also in the low 50s. plenty of sunshine and winds not an issue either. winds will kick up. today staying on the light side. the weekend, saturday and sunday, two very different stories. looking at warming on saturday ahead of a cold front. we'll see clouds increase as we go throughout the day. we may see isolated showers particularly north and west. even into philly overnight a shot spot shower is possible. then with the cold front passage, temperatures are down. mid to upper 40s, spot 50s near the shore and parts of southern delaware. that's as good as it gets. it will be dry on sunday. that's when it will be windy. a lot going on. we've seen that a lot. one day it's warm, then showers. the next day, windy and cold. you should be used to it. here's the hour-by-hour model. today is clear. this is through 4:00 p.m. as we go overnight, then into your saturday, we start with some clouds but sunshine. the clouds will increase in the afternoon. by 4:00 p.m., we could see anized shower near the -- an isolated shower near the lehigh valley or poconos. this is moving too aggressively with the rain. i don't think there will be this mu much. this shows steady rain. i think it will be spotty, isolated at best. you may get sprinkles around 8:00 near the i-95 corridor. that moves out the rest of the night. sunday morning, dry, clear, but cool. for the eagles' forecast, 1:00 kickoff, 47. breezy, so it will feel colder than it is. likely in the low to mid 40s. that's how it will stay through the rest of the game. it will be dry, though. you don't have to worry about any umbrellas, ponchos, anything like that. >> thank you very much. new apology. a statement released by a senator in the wake of sexual harassment allegations. and an a-list actress breaking her silence about a movie producer accused of sexual harassment. and get this -- she says she's only getting started. and sky-high savings. airlines are getting in on the black friday bonanza. we'll look at whether the deals are really worthwhile. senator al franken has more to say about the recent allegations about sexual harassment. the minnesota democrat is apologizing. he released a statement that reads, "i need to be much more careful and sensitive in these situations. i feel terribly that i made some women feel badly, and for that i am also sorry. i want to make sure that never happens again. and let me say," he says, "that i'm sorry to minnesotans for putting them through this and committed to regaining their trust." the statement came just days after a second woman said he inappropriately touched her while taking a photo with her at the minnesota state fair in 2010. another woman also came forward this week. this follows a california radio host who accused franken of forcibly kissing and groping her back in in 2006 when he was a comedian. franken apologized to her, as well.
