Already tracking the first round of showers and thunderstorms. Not severe weather, but we have very heavy rainfall just starting to inch out of allentown. Still coming down. Easton getting the heavy rain right now. This is the first round. More wet weather to the west. That moves into this afternoon. And tonight. Right now, steamy and warmer. Temperatures are running five to ten degrees warmer. Humidity is ramped up in the last 24 hours. You see the rain coming down in the Lehigh Valley with that thunderstorm. 74 degrees at 8 00. Another chance, another chance of thunderstorms by 11 00 this morning. And then this afternoon, a chance everybody will see some wet weather and potentially strong storms from the le high valley, new jersey, the suburbs, even at the shore. Not a beach day today. Cloudy skies, might see some breaks of sunshine. But keep an eye on the sky and download the app too so we can track the storms if youre on the go. Ill break it down hour by hour. You see traffic moving smoothly in either direction. No major problems to speak of there. Well look at 95 now. Lets check out the drive times if youre headed to 495, 295 average speeds in the 60s, average drive times about ten minutes. I want to point something out to you right now, emergency construction that is happening on the ac expressway. This is in winslow township, right near route 73. There is a lane restriction there. The right lane is blocked off and there are people on the road working. Were following developments in the terror in spain, 13 people are dead, dozens more hurt after twin terror attacks and we now know authorities are looking for another suspect. Randy gyllenhaal is live for us in the digital operations center. Bring us up to speed. Theyre look for one of those attackers. Overnight, they say they shot and killed five suspects in a second terror attack in a coastal town southwest of barcelona. Hours earlier in the city of barcelona, a white van plowing into a crowd of people. Crowds of hundreds run screaming from the tourist district of las ramblas, witnesses say the large white van jumped over the curb and began zigzagging into victims for some 600 yards. 13 people are dead. More than 100 injured and that van driver still not in custody. Isis is claiming responsibility for the attack. But not offering any proof. Nbc 10 spoke with vacationers visiting from Atlantic City, new jersey, who were caught up in the aftermath. Many are afraid to leave their hotels. Businesses are afraid to open up shop. There were a lot of people confused. Not knowing what to do. A lot of businesses shut down, if they should stay open. It is very scary. People dont know how people dont know what to do. We didnt know what to do today. And Spanish Police say those twin vehicle attacks are connected to an explosion on wednesday in a town outside of barcelona. Authorities say theyre searching for one person and they do expect the death toll to go up. Live in the digital operations center, randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. Thank you. She joins us live on the phone. Can you hear us . I hear you. Good morning. How are you . Good morning. Thank you for getting on the phone with us. I know you landed within the last couple of hours. Describe the situation there. Sure. It is a sunny day, gray weather here in barcelona, however, there is much all around. The minute we stepped out of the airplane, 9 30 local time, we could sense people moving at a much slower pace throughout the airport. You can sense the workers faces and just a little bit ago, i spoke to our taxi driver, where were now just passing the stands train station, only about ten minutes away from las ramblas where this unfortunate incident occurred around 5 00 on thursday. And he tells me it does not surprise him, he is very saddened by it indeed and says, you know this type of what he refers to as urban terrorism is something that police, locally, are struggling to fight and control. It is unfortunate it happened. And even though he says there is normally a lot of Police Presence in that area of las ramblas, this is something that unfortunately police could not have stopped immediately much less prevented. Speaking on the phone with iris delgado, from our station, telemundo 62, just arrived in spain and speaking to us live on the phone. As you are flying over there, late in the summer tourist season. Tourism makes up such a huge part of the economy in europe and certainly in spain. Can you get a sense about how this is affecting people there and as you talk to people on the plane, concerned at all as they make their way to barcelona this morning . Absolutely. So i spoke to a venezuelan couple who just flew in. They were fortunate to not be here and be part of this. Even though they regret what happened, they said it is not just about what happen had, it is about that is going to keep happening in the next coming days. This is going to take a toll on the local economy. And that is in fact one topic he did bring up. So it is definitely something that concerns local residents. Iris, thank you. Here at home, statue of frank rizzo is partially covered this morning. Overnight someone spray painted the statue days after protesters call for the city to take the statue down. Nbc 10 delucia is live in center city with more en what happened overnight. Reporter it is covered with a towel as you see behind me here. It was hung by a supporter of frank rizzo. Now once between, the statue is sectioned off and police are here watching over it. I couldnt take seeing somebody go by it and seeing the bad language that was on it. Reporter debbie who calls herself a concerned philadelphian, had enough after seeing the statue of frank rizzo defaced with graffiti late last night. A man jumped out of a car and sprayed the words black power on it. Every statue that is erected in philadelphia means something. Whether it be good or bad. We have to keep our history in order. Reporter she believes rizzo and his likeness across from city hall are being unfairly targeted. Probably getting brainwashed by other people and they probably didnt know him and they should read up a history book. Reporter some accused rizzo of being a racist and some including a city councilwoman called for the statue to be removed. Earlier this week, eggs were thrown at the statue, which prompted a large Police Presence and barricades, which were removed before last nights vandalism. Donna mark jumped in to help debbie cover up the paint. I think it is a disgrace. It is sad. He did so much for the city. Now theyre coming up and destroying statue for no reason. It is true ly sad. Reporter are you concerned this could happen again . Sure. It might happen again. But you cant do anything about ignorance. Reporter she says the statue was put here for a reason and should stay where it is. But, again, there are others who disagree and they want this statue gone. Meantime, philly police got a license plate number and description of the man as there were witnesses to this vandalism last night. They expect to make an arrest very soon. Happening today, the mayor of charlottesville, virginia, will make an announcement regarding the citys monument that has been the center of this controversy. That statue of robert e. Lee last weekend, white supremacist groups marched to the statue and protested plans to have it moved. Counterdemonstrators including Heather Heyer who died and multiple people injured during that crash. 21 before 6 00. Keeping an eye on the sky across the entire area, cape may dry now. There is a chance of strong storms at the shore today. Were already seeing some heavy downpours in the Lehigh Valley. Thats east. And the rain is coming down with thunder and lightning too. This is the first round of storms with some very heavy rainfall moving through allentown. Just getting ready to exit allentown, but easton, look at the rain and you hear the thunder and see the lightning this morning. Thats the first round. Look at the showers that are just starting to pop up into south jersey. And some of the suburb as well. Wo lunch time, a chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms in northeast philadelphia. And parts of south jersey and delaware. Might see a little bit of rainfall as the shore, but the chance of showers and thunderstorms will be increasing during the afternoon hours. This is 2 00 this afternoon. This line coming in to play could produce some very heavy downpours and damaging winds is a threat with these storms later this afternoon. This is 4 00. 85 degrees, drops the temperatures into the 70s. Steamy all day. And then stormy well into the evening hours. Hour by hour forecast, shows 7 00 this evening, another round of some heavy weather moving into delaware, and potentially in south jersey. Even into late tonight, a chance of storms. The weekend will be dryer. But the warm weather, thats going to stay with us. The storms move through today. We have sunshine returning for saturday, sunday and monday for the eclipse. Look at tuesday. Steam heat is back. The high of 91 degrees. That could lead to more wet weather on wednesday. Looking at one thing to look out for, i did look at the website, now there are some delays for incoming flights for 15 minutes. Could have something to do with the rain that bill was talking about. Taking a stand, the eagles mam co mam co Malcolm Jenkins continues his National Anthem protest. Well hear from him coming up. Calling for an end to social injustice, thats the mission of eagles star Malcolm Jenkins as he upheld his vow to protest during the playing of the National Anthem. Youre looking at jenkins arm and fist held high during the anthem at the link last night. He began the gesture last season as a response to Deadly Police shootings of unarmed black men. He and chris long criticized the president s response to racially charged violence in charlottesville. He did not hold up his fist during the anthem, but he did put his arm around jenkins. Im just saying, im your ally, im here, i support malcolms right to protest and people fighting for equality. Communities, low income and communities of color have completely different interactions with the Justice System than that of our counterparts. So in the light of everything that is happening, just continuing our conversation. Jenkins is openly supported quarterback colin protested by kneeling instead of standing. Adopt a shelter dog often brings up a question who saved who . A Delaware County man and his dog both have a new appreciation for life. And each other. After meeting a similar fate years ago. Matt delucia has their story from berwyn. Reporter what is a dogs destiny . Read her story and right away i knew i had to get her. It is clear david and his pit bull noel are inseparable. But their bond is much deeper than what you see. The path toward each other started almost nine years ago. I was riding my bicycle in florida on vacation and did a dance with a 14 wheeler tractor trailer. I remember everything, the sights, the sounds. Reporter doctors told david it was a miracle he survived. I wasnt expected to make it through the night. And through that twomonth period in the hospital, the dogs came in every two weeks as therapy dogs. Reporter almost four years later, to the day, david heard about a one of a kind dog at the Providence Animal Center in media. Her name was noel. Noel jumped up on me and i told her, im here to adopt you and she was just it was just it was like that, amazing. Love at first sight. Exactly. Reporter her path to davids arms started on the side of a road in chester. Her leg was broken in lthree places. They couldnt save it and had to amputate it. It made my depression and stressing and anxiety diminished. I still have it. She knows when i have it. The magic of a smile and wagging tail made all the difference. This rescue changed davids life. And noels. I think theyre more appreciative because they have been through a heck of stuff. Like humans have. We have been through a lot of stuff. She had that much of an impact on you. She changed my life. A destiny built on a battle only the two of them can understand. Matt delucia, nbc 10 news. But not everybody is getting a dry start. It is a muggy one. Look at the winds blowing in center city. Those are southerly winds through the day with us and thats pumping moisture into the area. Already steamier this morning. And warmer and stormy too. The Lehigh Valley seeing thunderstorms with heavy downpours. Still waiting for some widespread showers in south jersey, philadelphia and delaware. That happens during the day today. The rain has brought the temperatures down a little bit, 74, 73 degrees in reading. Not much, still in the 70s for bethlehem and allentown. Allentown now seeing that heavy rain start to taper off. Theyre starting it die out now. Not only in allentown, but easton, getting some heavier rain right now. But looking much less impressive. Just one lightning bolt showing up in the last few minutes. Lightning to start with and the potential for strong storms with this line of showers coming into play during the day. Most likely well see the storms start to fire up during the afternoon. But not just the afternoon, and not just the evening commute, storm threat will stay with us right on through the evening. And into the late evening hours. The storms could be capable of producing damaging winds, you see were in the area of greatest risk with this line of storms coming through later today. Why we issued a first alert for the entire area from 2 00 this afternoon, 11 00 this evening. Those strong storms with heavy downpours could produce damaging winds. Isolated tornado threat and hail with the storms for today. Tomorrow, though, it is all out of here. The humidity that is so high today will be dropping. Steamy to start with. 73 degrees in the morning. Warming to 89 in the afternoon. The humidity drops during the day on saturday. And well be lower on sunday. A little cooler in the morning as a result. Look at the sunshine for monday, looking good for the eclipse viewing. But the humidity is back with clouds building on tuesday. A slight chance of a shower on tuesday, more likely well get another round of storms with a cold front on wednesday. Once that moves through, goodbye to the super warm temperatures and super moist air too. Drawing out and cooling down for the balance of the week. In camden, two men pleaded guilty yesterday to defrauding new jersey and Health Insurers out of 25 million. Federal Authorities Say drug Company Representative from north jersey plotted the scheme to use doctors and Public Employees to get reimbursed for phony and unneeded prescriptions. Both men could get up to ten years in prison. In bucks county, a catholic schoolteacher is out of prison ten years early. This week a judge threw out the conviction. Shero is from bristol township. The judge said there were questions about his accusers truthfulness. He pleaded no contest to less serious charges and was sentenced to time already served. Allentown city council is taking its next step to remove the mayer from office. Last Night Council members approved hiring a lawyer to investigate ways to force ed pulaski to step down. Pulaski denied charges that he took campaign bribes in exchange for
