This morning. Investigators are looking for clues at two scenes. Reporter youre right, vai. This is where the victim was shot, about a block away from where were standing right now is where Police Spotted a vehicle that matched the description of one seen around the time of that shooting this morning. At this hour, police are interviewing two people from that vehicle. Police have not called them suspects at this time. It was around 1 00 this morning when police heard gunshots coming from the 5700 block of the baltimore. Officers headed that way, and thats when the 911 call came in about a block away on angora terrace. Police found a 34yearold man unconscious between two parked cars. He had been shot in the head. Officers rushed him to presbyterian hospital. Officers believe the victim, who was with his girlfriend at the time, was targeted. The couple had just pulled up to the girlfriends house. The two parked, and thats when someone opened fire. 15 spent shell casings were found near the car. There were six bullet holes in the drivers side of the car. Two other cars were hit with gunfire as well. Police telling us this morning they found what they believe to be a large amount of crack cocaine on the man who was shot. A mini van, as i mentioned earlier, that was seen in the area. The two people inside of that vehicle being questioned right now at this hour. The victims girlfriend is also talking to police. As we head into the memorial day weekend, Construction Projects are still under way at the shore. The view on beach Havens Center street beach wasnt quite was visitors expected yesterday. The work is part of a federal beach replenishment and protection project along long beach island. After another week or so, crews will move on to wholegate and then surf city. Some beach goers decided to find a quieter spot. Others were okay with the noise. Were like, oh, no, should we go some place else . But then were happy being right out here at the top and enjoying it. Public works crews are also racing to rebuild beaches hit hard by fallen winter coastal storms. Local leaders say the work wont disrupt the Summer Season and the beaches will be in good shape for the tourists. Authorities will not file charges after police say a father accidently sent his son to school with a loaded gun. The second grader found the gun in his bag while in class at Grover Cleveland charter school. The boys father is a Security Guard with a license to carry. Investigators say he was in a rush yesterday morning, put the gun in his sons bag, and then forgot about it. Happening today, philadelphia mayor jim kenny will spread the word about one of his initiatives, Community Schools. Kenny will meet with fourth graders at stanton elementary school. He says his goal is to open more than two dozen Community Schools by the end of his term. Community schools act as schoolbased service centers. They provide access to primary care doctors, eye doctors, dentists, and counselors. Katy zachry traveled with the mayor to cincinnati for a look at their Community Schools initiative. This happened last night at the Chinese Restaurant in klay mont. The victim is expected to survive. Local environmental activists shared their concerns about a proposed septa natural gas plant in philadelphias nicetown neighborhood. The group 350 philadelphia held a public forum last night. Septa wants to build a natural gas plant next to the midville bus station to supply electricity for the renalal rail system. 350 philadelphias concerned about the health, economic, and environmental impacts of the project. Septas board as not yet given the go ahead for the plan. An historic plane making its way around the world will spend the next few days in the Lehigh Valley. Solar impulse landed in allentown last night after a flight from dayton, ohio. The plane is attempting to make a recordbreaking trip around the world using only solar energy. The trip started in abu dhabi last year. The goal of the trip is to educate people to maximize our Energy Efficient technology. We always think about how to produce more and more energy. We never seem to think about how to use the energy we have or how to better use the energy we have. I think its already changed the way people are thinking about solar. I think its even going to get greater. The Solar Impulse will take off for new york on monday and make a trip around the state chew of liberty. It will then head out across the atlan atlantic to europe. Governor tom wolf has signed a bill requiring firsttime dui offenders to use a breathalyzer system on their vehicles. Drunk drives with a blood alcohol level of 0. 10 or higher will be required to do so. One issue remaining up in the air is the controversial soda tax. People on both sides of the argument showed up at city hall yesterday. Mayor jim kenny is proposing a 3 cent per ounce soda and sugary drink tax. Theres also an alternative approach from one councilmember that includes a container tax that would be a flat rate of 15 cents and would include bottled water. Right now councilmembers are considering both options to help pay for universal prek, for Community Schools, and rec centers in the city. Meantime, mayor kenny took a swipe at former pennsylvania governor ed rendell, who is skeptical of mayors soda tax. In a recent radio interview, rendell asked whether sugary donuts would be taxed too. So people say, why dont you former governor rendell, who should keep his mouth shut, saying, why dont you tax donuts . Well, because you dont absorb all the sugar in a donut. You absorb all the sugar in a sugarsweetened beverage. If his soda tax does no the have enough support, mayor kenny says he would leave the door open for negotiations. A Chester County woman tells us a man tried to steal her purse while he was driving by her, and she ended up getting dragged behind the car. This morning were hearing from a woman who was dragged from a vehicle during a robbery in Chester County. The woman was walking through the Gateway Shopping Center parking lot late thursday night when a man in a passing car grabbed her purse and dragged her across the lot. She ended up with bruises all over her body. Surveillance video then captured the suspect trying to use the victims credit cards. Were not identifying that victim, but she tells us she hopes police catch the man responsible. I hope they go to jail. I wouldnt want them to do it to somebody else. If you recognize the suspect or you know anything about the crime, call police. Now from our delaware bureau, a mistake on a bridge in Newcastle County will cost the states taxpayers about a half million dollars. Deldot is getting ready to repair a bridge in newport. When they built it five years ago, the surveyor made a mistake calculating the height required by csx for the bridge to comfortably accommodate doubledup train containers. Now deldot has to jack up the bridge about six inches, and taxpayers will get pinched. You okay paying for this . No. I dont mind paying for improvements, but i dont like doing the same work twice because somebody was inefficient. It pains me as much as anybody else to have to spend money to raise a bridge that was just built five years ago. Deldot has since changed its policies. Every project surveyed now has three different looks to make sure that they get it right before construction begins. Well, intruders may have more access to planes and runways at major airports than you think. Thats according to a new Associated Press investigation that found someone jumps over fences or gets through perimeter gates about every ten days. The Associated Press learned of 345 incidents over the last decade, but the tsa says some shouldnt count, like a man who drove through a San Francisco security gate following voices only he could hear. The report found several intruders had guns or knives, but it says the tsa has been more focused on stopping passengers from bringing weapons on planes. Tsa screeners have been looking for guns and other prohibited items thats led to long lines at Security Check points. Administrators and directors from several airports will give their perspectives on these delays today. A representative from American Airlines will also give testimony. And several local students are in washington getting ready for todays semifinal and final rounds of one of the toughest competitions around. Happening now, a new exhibit is ready for display at the National Constitution center. This is pretty cool. It tells Jackie Robinsons story of breaking baseballs color barrier. We got a preview yesterday as workers put the finishing touches on the exhibit. It features two contracts signed by robinson. One with the montreal royals in 1946, the other with the brooklyn dodgers in 1947. Those signings came nearly two decades before the civil rights act.
