mid-40s. by 7:00 a.m., 39 by 10:00 a.m., 40 degrees and 1:00 p.m. only 44 degrees with our wind speed strong throughout today. that's going to make the feels like temperature colder. our radar satellite/radar shows quiet dry conditions and cloudy conditions heading into the rest of today. our highs will get to about 4 sticks in philadelphia. 40 degrees in pottstown, same in allentown, then 40s in atlantic city and 46 degrees in dover. that's just the beginning. i'm tracking temperatures dropping down in the mid-30s for daytime highs. i'll let you know when coming up. >> it's definitely winter again. thanks. new from overnight a car slammed into a house in north philadelphia. it happened around 2:00 this morning at 25th and cumberland. the driver lost control and crashed, damaging the front porch and steps. no one was hurt. >> 5:31. a car hit a woman overnight in philadelphia's nice town neighborhood. she is in stable condition in the hospital. it happened at 19th and hunting park avenue around 3:00 this morning. police are investigating. happening today, the mummers are hours away from taking over center city in a long time philadelphia tradition. nbc 10's matt delucia is live for us this morning with a preview of the parade. matt, you seem to be in the thick of it. any one joining you at this early hour? >> reporter: not really, katy. i'll tell you it's quiet out here along jfk, just a lot of floats out here lining the parkway where you can see just a few of these things that are out here now. we've got what looks like science experiment, look likes a brain here. then you have here what look likes a laboratory. some sort of back to the future thing. this is all going to be interesting as it plays out later on this morning as we watch the mummers' parade. this really is a new year's day tradition. 116th year for the mummers' parade. more than 40 clubs, thousands of people of all ages come out to show off and dance and strut their way into this new year. it is a very competitive competition, we'll see a different divisions, the comics, fancy brigade, string bands, all those guys, last year the organizers they changed the route, to start at city hall. then work down broad street to washington, it's a little bit shorter than it's going to be the same route again this year. all in the judging, all of that main activity if you will is going to happen right by city hall about 15th and jfk. of course there's also performances going on down at the convention center as well, so all of this is going to be happening later on this morning through the day. well into the afternoon. it's going to be pretty fun to see and these guys are hopefully going to come out in the next couple hours getting on the floats and going out to have a good time. it's a little bit -- a little warmer out here this time around last year it was colder to start the day. so of course it's going to be better weather for the folks out here who want to enjoy this. great family event indeed. live in center city, matt delucia, "nbc 10 news." >> did you see these? fireworks kicked off a night of celebration along the water front in philadelphia. nbc 10 gave you a front row seat to the first show at 6:00 p.m. and there were more at midnight. well, that is new year's in the big apple. this is in times square just after the ball dropped last night. security there was tight, about 6,000 uniformed and undercover police officers were on patrol. there were also mounted patrols, bomb sniffing dogs, radiation detectors and hundreds of surveillance cameras. there were no reports of serious problems. >> police say an armed robbery attempt did not go as planned in rittenhouse square. several people held down a gunman after he and two accomplices tried robbing a man at 16th and pine streets. officers showed up and arrested the man. they are still looking for the two others with him. >> this morning police continue to look for the gunman who shot and killed a man yesterday in north philadelphia. authorities tell us the victim was riding a bike when someone shot him several times. investigators are trying to figure out a motive for the shooting. that shooting was the city's 280th homicide of 2015. it was also the latest of four murders during the last week of the year in philadelphia. it left four dead in separate incidents. the 2015 numbers marked a 13% increase in homicides compared to both last year and the year before. >> there are a lot of new year's eve traditions across the area. some get creative. >> we'll show you where they celebrate the new conditions as we head into the rest of today. definitely into next week. i'm tracking very cold temperatures. we'll stay dry for the next week or so. that after all of the rain we saw a few days ago. 29 degrees in the poconos, 38 in trenton, 38 in atlantic city, 39 in dover. temperatures close to 40 in wilmington. so it's a big change from this time yesterday. 13 degrees colder in the poconos, same in atlantic city, about 14 degrees colder in millville and down 11 degrees in dover. satellite shows us that we're dealing with a few clouds. we go into the afternoon we'll start to see clouds clearing up a bit. we'll see our wind speeds moving in from the northwest and the west. so you will notice our feels like temperature will be even colder than the actual temperature. here comes winter. that's the headline. we're going to see the cold air sitting over philadelphia. as we go into the weekend we actually start to see more of an arctic blast. so by monday heading into tuesday, that arctic air is right to the north of philadelphia. so our temperatures will not make it out of the 30s on monday and tuesday. today we'll push into the mid-40s, 46 in philadelphia, 40 in pottstown, 32 the high in the poconos and temperatures will reach a high of 45 in wild lake. i'm tracking colder temperatures heading into the weekend. good morning. i'm first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington. happy new year. you may be heading out to check out the mummers' parade, it does start at 9:00 a.m. they have three performance areas, they start at 15th and market, broad and sansom and broad and carpenter. it ends at broad and washington avenue. you may be heading out to check out mass transit. we're running sunday schedule for septa, a holiday schedule for patco and new jersey transit. well, new york drops the ball but in bethlehem, they drop the giant peep. the 85-pound peep chick descended as part of the peep fest celebration, the event topped off with a big fireworks show. >> donald trump is starting the new year with a message. coming up why he is calling himself the quote worst nightmare for other candidates. and fire in the sky. we'll show you scenes from a massive hotel fire in dubai. 5:44. a massive skyscraper fire in dubai that began on new year's eve, it burned into the first morning of 2016. the fire broke out at the upscale address hotel around 9:30 last night. more than 12 hours later it was still burning. firefighters were unable to reach the flames. the 63-story building was evacuated. dubai authorities say at least 14 people were hurt. there was no reported death. >> around the world people welcomed 2016 with celebrations and well wishes. security was tight amid concerns about terrorism, but spirits did remain high. nbc's sarah has a look around the world. >> one of the first to ring in the new year setting the stage with fireworks from the sky tower. similar display but different backdrop in australia. this set on scaled back in the wake of the recent terror attacks in ongoing worries about safety. the annual fireworks show was replaced by a video presentation, along the river. in london a display and perhaps the most famous new year's eve count down in new york city. more than a million people packed times square to watch the iconic crystal ball drop. out with the old and in with the new year around the world. >> turning to decision 2016, republican front-runner donald trump has put his white house rivals on notice. during his final push of 2015 trump let the others know where he stands saying quote i have a very big lead and i intend to keep it. he also blasted hillary clinton saying she won't do the job. trump added that he will be clinton's worst nightmare if he wins the nomination. >> the new year is not off to a great start for republican hopeful ben carson. several of hills top aides resigned yesterday, questioning carson's readiness for the white house. his campaign manager and communications director both stepped down with less than five weeks to the iowa caucuses. they said they were frustrated with carson allowing his business manager to have so much influence during the campaign. >> the state department released additional 5500 pages of e-mails from hillary clinton's time as secretary of state before the new year. portions of nearly 300 of those documents were newly classified. the democratic presidential front-runner has said she did not send or receive information that was classified at the time through her personal e-mail account. the account ran on a private server on clinton's home in new york. >> someone in the area is starting off the new year as a millionaire. a $1 million winning powerball ticket was purchased at the sunoco. here are numbers from wednesday night. the mega millions jackpot is $130 million. no one won wednesday's powerball jackpot. that stands at $334 million. the next drawing for mega millions is friday, the powerball drawing is saturday night. good morning. temperatures starting off this morning a lot cooler than what we saw yesterday. so we're at 41 degrees in philadelphia, 39 in mount holly. 29 in the poconos, 37 degrees in allentown and our city planner shows that as we go into the next few hours by 10:00 a.m., 40. by 1:00, 44 degrees, wind out of the west-northwest at about 11 miles per hour. the wind speeds are going to stay stronger into the rest of today so breezy conditions for us. our feels like temperature is going to be even colder than the high which is 46 degrees. so if you're heading out for the parade or to go shopping early this morning, you want to bundle up. our radar, satellite/radar shows that we're seeing cloudy skies. no rain to tell you about. all of the rain from this system is going to stay far enough to the south. and we'll see mostly sunny skies. temperatures range between 40 and 47 degrees, breezy. out of the northwest around 10 to 20 miles per hour. so highs around the region today at 46, 40 in pottstown, 44 wilmington and 46 in atlantic city. then heading into tomorrow, even colder. our temperatures take a hit dropping down to the low 40s for philadelphia, 40 degrees in pottstown, we'll see a high tomorrow in atlantic city at 43, it gets even colder than that i'm tracking the details in my seven-day forecast in about 10 minutes. >> thanks, brittney. today
